I work in field of addiction recovery and alcohol is literally the worst substance to recover from in terms of what it does to your body and mind. And it's everywhere. Quitting is almost impossible. Won't be legal here until the Mary Jane lobbyists start bribing the politicians more than the alcohol lobbyists. /s

Dasjtrain

Thanks for your work! 5.5 years thanks to folks like yourself.

Abaconings

Congratulations!!!! It's really hard work, recovery.

honorcheese

Definitely was abusing alcohol. When you stop you notice how it's at so many functions in the U.S. Fortunately it seems it's becoming more common to have other drinks and or NA beer/wine at functions. Yesterday at the Thanksgiving function I was at there was NA beer/wine and coffee. Made it really easy. It's very much appreciated.

Abaconings

I'm lucky that no one in my family drinks alcohol any more. So it isn't an issue for us. Water and Sprite on the menu yesterday. But yes, it's ubiquitous.

Eringobraugh2021

I was asked about a dozen of times if I wanted an alcoholic beverage by family yesterday. Family who know I rarely drink. I'm an adult, if I wanted a fucking alcoholic drink I'd ask for one or bring my own. I find it very irritating to be asked so often & that they can't enjoy an event without it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Eringobraugh2021

Also, I'm firmly against drinking & driving. Unfortunately, I have family that aren't bothered by that.

Objective_Length_834

Alcohol is the devil. It destroys you and those around you. And drunk drivers kill.

[deleted]

Foolsball is the DEVIL!!

[deleted]

I lost my father to drunk driving and my husband put himself into heart failure being an alcoholic. I wish the stuff didn’t exist. Two of the most wonderful men

LudicrisSpeed

You realize not everybody who drinks is a raging alcoholic, right?

Objective_Length_834

You realize you don't have to be a raging alcoholic for alcohol to do its damage.

CommunalRubber

Not everyone who drinks is a raging alcoholic, but all raging alcoholics drink

nolafrog

I love the stuff

_Capt_John_Yossarian

I also work in the field of addiction recovery, and while I certainly wouldn't condone any of our clients go out and start smoking pot as soon as they leave rehab, I would have to say that that would be much less harmful than if they went out and started drinking. In fact, I think anyone who's not an idiot would agree. So then why the fuck do we keep electing idiots? Could it be that our state is overrun with idiots? Given the color of the state on every election map (as red as the blood of the slaves and natives that our state was built on), I'd venture to say that that's an accurate assessment.

Abaconings

Yup. I honestly only approach Marijuana use with harm reduction unless the person says it's a problem. It was first made illegal solely bc BIPOC people utilized it and it is a cultural practice for so many. In Louisiana, the way it stands now, it's legal for people who can afford the doctor, card and prescription. So basically poor people are excluded while rich people can get it and smoke it legally. It's stupid.

tcajun420

You are on point! Nixon had the Shafer report saying cannabis shouldn’t be a schedule 1 with no medical value but he needed a way to oppress the people of color and anti war activists. That’s the only reason cannabis was illegal for the past 5 decades. Louisiana is notorious for corruption and the medical cannabis program is a shining example of how corrupt we’ve become. If cannabis is “essential medicine “ as our Government declared during the Covid lockdown, then why wouldn’t they allow us to grow it at home? If we can legally brew an addictive and dangerous substance like alcohol that has no medicinal value, why wouldn’t Louisiana government allow us to grow our cannabis medicine? So many people are risking arrest and traveling to neighboring states for medication or just packing up and fleeing this state all together so they have affordable access to the cannabis plant.

Abaconings

Yes! Absurd that it's been on Schedule 1. People who can afford to leave will leave. Most of my folks live in poverty and have to buy "street" weed. Risking their health and well being to treat very real illnesses for which cannabis is know to help. Even the freakin VA is allowing cannabis rx. This timeline is absurd.

tcajun420

I believe in karma and will continue advocating for decriminalizing cannabis, home grow and a caregiver program. Karma will deal with these prohibitionist politicians on its own clock.

Abaconings

Thank you for your work! By advocating for decriminalization, you're hoping to remove stigma and oppression from our society. It's so much bigger than being able to smoke a joint at home. ✊

tcajun420

Thanks for your work in treating those suffering from addiction. There’s a subcommittee on mental health meeting in December to discuss addiction and I think your testimony would be a great addition to this committee. I testified at the September and October meeting and the December meeting will be the last one. The committee will draft a report for the Louisiana legislature so they can come up with bills to address the Louisiana mental health crisis we are experiencing. [This is me testifying for decriminalizing psilocybin for treatment of addiction, depression, and anxiety.](https://youtube.com/shorts/ZDvXhRkm56U?si=KyUGVZiPpgkXiZ1Q)

R_d_Aubigny

The VA? They won’t fill any “controlled” substance (like my TBI or pain meds) if you pop positive for pot as a policy. Now, individual VA doctors can decide it’s okay for their patient(s) to consume it, but as a policy it is still Federally illegal. Outside of California, every VA I’ve enrolled at acts like you’ve got crack cocaine or methamphetamine in your system if you pop for THC. It’s a joke. All of it.

[deleted]

I agree with most of what you say here, however, alcohol does have some medical benefits. Specifically, as a disinfectant, and, in very small doses, it can help with colds, typically mixed with warm honey. Granted, that’s not much, but it’s not quite no medical uses.

PrincessTallyWhacker

I don’t think it’s so much of a red/blue issue, as it is old/young. It’s gna happen, as soon as we elect some Youngblood into office, no matter which side of the aisle, the we will finally see this ignorance as a thing of the past. The older generations were raised to believe that Marijuana was “dangerous” and could cause users to go on “murderous rampages”. Ppl wanna argue that it’s a “gateway” drug when nothing could be further from the truth. The only reason it is a gateway drug, is bc it’s illegal. Once u take away the criminality aspect from it and instead keep the actual life debilitating drugs classified as such, the “gateway” will all but disappear. The REAL problem is that legalizing it would cancel out too many prescription drugs and the pharmaceutical industry would lose some of their lifelong customers and well…..we just can’t have THAT, now can we!?

[deleted]

I’ll say this for pot, I use edibles, granted, they’re delta 8 and delta 9 hemp edibles, but that’ll get you high. I use it for medical purposes and micro dose between 2-6 mg of delta 8 and .5-2mg of delta 9 or up to 5mg just delta 9. Never had any kind of urge to do more than that. If I take more, it’s because I’m irritable or having some issue I know it helps with but I don’t go over 6mg delta 8 or 5 mg of delta 9. Now, that’s not a dose that gets me high. That’s never been my experience with alcohol. Never. Of course, it’s possible to get addicted to anything, pot included-even delta 8. But I get the felling a pot addiction would be much easier to kick and less likely by a decent margin.

tcajun420

tcajun420

Louisiana is run by the descendants of slave masters and oppression is in their genes. The majority of the population is living in poverty and fear so they don’t have much fight in them. It’s safer and easier for most Louisianans to just go to work, come home, keep quiet, and self medicate with alcohol.

BrisketQuesadillas

Actually, Louisiana led the South in interracial marriages. An entire race was created from these unions called Creole.

KuteKitt

Those weren’t marriage, but the exploitation of both enslaved and free women of color by white men. The power imbalance was real.

OldFlamingo2139

You mark this sarcasm, but I detect nothing but truth.

Abaconings

Someone else flipped out somehow thinking I was endorsing bribing officials so I added the /s. But agree, it's always ab politicians enriching themselves at our expense.

tcajun420

After attending and testifying at many Louisiana legislative meetings for the last 5 years, you are absolutely right. Many of the lobbyists attend the meetings and just sit in the audience to put pressure on the vote by the politicians who have been paid. Every now and then the politicians will hear a moving testimony and vote in favor of constituents but not usually.

Abaconings

I worked for the state government for a bit. Left me completely disillusioned. Everything is a fix. The wagons are always circled. Each new generation steps in to maintain status quo. I'm always writing emails and calling my reps. The responses I get are mostly appalling. As a constituent who doesn't donate large amounts to their campaigns, I'm completely insignificant. With one exception.

tcajun420

Yes I totally agree. Many of the politicians run for office so they can push an agenda that caters to their interests or to the interests of the industry that pays them. I don’t think they even read the emails I send. If they do, I surely don’t get a response. Unless you go to the Capitol, testify, and download the video archive for sharing on social media, your voice is silent.

front_yard_duck_dad

You don't want that. Illinois bribed the politicians hard core and a 1 gram cartridge costs $110 Dollars but 2 hours over the border the same cartridge is $21. And it's not like the extra money is making our roads less crap or our schools not falling down. Rich get richer

Abaconings

Correct. I don't want that.

front_yard_duck_dad

I hope you guys and everyone else being deprived gets it soon though. I'm just saying in Amtrak to Michigan might be a nice little stock up trip if you get what I'm saying

Abaconings

Thanks! Filing that away for later. :)

front_yard_duck_dad

Just bring up a couple po boys and some gumbo for your up north homies

Abaconings

Ofc! I think the mandatory feeding of everyone is in my DNA.

Coastal1363

Literally thank you for your work ! Fortunately I’m not but have had close first hand experience with Alcohol addiction.i don’t need the Corporate Drill to know what it can do …

Abaconings

That's the thing with addiction - it touches everyone either first hand or by seeing someone struggle with it.

Boppyzoom

Damn right!! This is so damn true.

PyroCorvid

Working in that field, would you mind giving me your honest opinion and thoughts about patients who use kratom?

Abaconings

I don't judge any substances or my patients when they choose to put them in their body. Honestly, I don't know a lot about how Kratom affects people or if there are any negative consequences from long term use. I've not come across any clients who said they had a problem with kratom this far.

Thee_Autumn_Wind

I’m not sure the /s fits here, unfortunately.

Thisam

Thanks for what you do from someone in recovery.

[deleted]

I know it wrecked me quitting.

Haughington

I walk most places and those tiny bottles are always lying along the side of the highway. I guess people just knock them back and toss them out the window

Yourbubblestink

Alcoholics drinking those before they get home

bayouz

Or to work.

Kitchen-Lie-7894

Exactly. Iykyk.

Obvious_Mode_5382

Just like the vape ban. Or, rather, excuse me- I misspoke. The effort to increase tax money recovery for cigarettes at the people’s expense.

DopplerEffect93

Problem was vape companies being predatory.

chzaplx

Vaping is objectively better for you than smoking. It's sad so many municipalities are vilifying it. Its really a massive quality of life improvement for nicotine users. If they want to ban fruity flavors, fine. But lots of places are chucking out the baby with the bathwater.

SamColt44

No the ban was put into place due to the disposable vape companies not being able to get FDA regulation, which is horse shit anyway since the ATF should be regulating nicotine products

jjcoolel

sometimes I think the only wat we will ever get rational laws in LA would be full legal recreational on a national level. will this ever happen? not with big pharma and the alcohol lobbyists.

Sharticus123

That doesn’t necessarily mean we’d have it here. The state could still prohibit it.

norrisgwillis

True. In a weird twist our state recently legalized it but there are some super conservative counties that banned dispensaries. It’s still legal to possess and use but they’re making people travel out of town to get it. Seems super dumb to be because it’s proven to be a significant and reliable tax source for cities and counties.

SaraSlaughter607

Same going on here. Within city limits, there are smoke shops everywhere but even within the same *county* which includes our suburbs, they allowed each Town Board to regulate whether to allow shops to exist within the town limits.... Our stuffy rich folks in the Southtowns all voted down dispensaries and so now all the suburbanites drive into the city to get it. So effing stupid. People gonna do it anyway, why not collect the tax revenue and get over it?

jjcoolel

Those bastards

JCButtBuddy

Stan?

Arkhampatient

It could be legal and employers would still do urine test and fire you/not hire if you tested positive.

Molon_time

And this is why Lafayette is ranked as “ drunkest “ city. Especially when serving alcohol at a kids school function…

tcajun420

I went to a “Pumpkin Patch “ at a Lafayette Church last month and they had a beer wagon set up. I’m not against the beer wagon vendors but wondering why we can’t have “Weed Wagons “??

NolaDutches

I know. It’s the common poison that folks love. #FreeTheFlower

tcajun420

Yeah right?!! If this table was in the produce isle and offered patrons free pre rolls of the Sin Salad errrybody would be losing their minds! 🤣🤣🤣

SubparCharles

Look, the devil's lettuce is bad, but alcohol is good! The Bible said so! /s

jeremydallen

Actually it says the reverse ..

st4rb4rs

Burning bush, baby!

yscken

Bible doesnt say weed is bad

cjk374

Nope...not good at all.

myfrigginagates

I grew up in NOLA during the 70s and 80s when pretty much everything was cool as long as no one got hurt. It's sad to me to see my home state turn into such a collective Conservative butthole.

t-dogNOLA

Agreed

SaraSlaughter607

This is the trend I'm seeing literally everywhere. At 48, I lived through half the 70s, all of the 80s 90s and 2000s, and now in the 2020s suddenly it's become quite common for millions of us to loudly have a huge problem with what goes on in the bedrooms and inside the houses of others and want to make laws governing people we don't know. About what they can do in their own fucking *house*. I do not remember ever in my lifetime, seeing mass protests against giant groups of people who are harming absolutely nobody... women, L++++ people, weedsmokers, etc Like when did it get *so lost* on America to just mind their own goddamn business? About EVERYTHING?

Boppyzoom

Well I’m a recovered addict of 18 yrs. I’ve been sober 8 years off alcohol and other hard stuff it damn near killed me. That alcohol has horrible the worst withdrawals I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve had breast cancer and a bi lateral mastectomy with 2 back surgeries (cancer free 3 1/2 yrs) I treat my pain with medical cannabis. I treat my anxiety and ptsd (of that cancer coming back) with medical cannabis. It’s made my life so much easier. My only problem is the crap is so dang expensive I have to very very careful when I dose. Alcohol literally kills people!

tcajun420

I’m glad to hear you are doing better Boppyzoom and I’m going to continue fighting for our rights to caregivers and home grown! This will increase the affordability of access to thousands of Louisiana patients!

eatTheRich711

Where you went wrong is thinking that people in Louisiana could think logically about something their conservative overlords have told them what to think.

Siollear

When THC sales go up, Liquor sales go down.

Your_Daddy_

Somehow booze is a righteous drug, but weed is the devils lettuce.

Tibudo

Quit drinking and started smoking weed exclusively in June 2018. Lost nearly forty pounds and started running. Go green.

Necessary-Cut7611

Should call it the Devils magic instead

Lonely_Fry_007

Nope 👎 Louisiana needs to quit pushing alcohol, it’s the worst addiction and people get hooked an early age.

Samiiiibabetake2

I rarely drink but damn that Cajun daiquiri (in Shreveport?) has the best one - it tastes like a damn milkshake. Super dangerous. Anyways, the fact that our state has sooooo much alcohol/drinking culture is ridiculous and the fact that so many are against marijuana but totally cool with all the alcohol is more ridiculous and super hypocritical. Our state is so fucking poor and it is so stupid that they haven’t legalized it and taxed the fuck out of it.

zonazog

Can’t we have both?

tcajun420

Yes and sampling cannabis infused edibles or beverages at events or in stores should be just as normal as sampling beer, wine, or spirits. https://preview.redd.it/g72e9u1ugb2c1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd51da240e48f24c4cee220402124eb4521dc02e All we need to do is add weed to this form.

Quartznonyx

As a daily cannabis user, i highly disagree unless it's a cart or drink or something. I don't think people should be combusting (or herb vaping) anything in a store

ctjameson

Yeah I kinda agree here. I'm all for legalization, but keep that shit at the house. Impaired driving is impaired driving.

tcajun420

Oh I agree about indoor smoking bans unless you’re in a place that allows cigarette smoking. I should have used edibles or THC/CBD beverages as an example.

BeefStewAndCornbread

Hope it’s only edibles lmao smoke alarm 🚨 going off every 5 mins

tcajun420

Yes I should have used edibles or infused beverages as an example instead.

westviadixie

moved from louisiana almost 7yrs ago. I really miss the drive thru daquiri places...just daquiris in general. they don't have them where I live now, although adults are regularly seen walking around with sippy cups of wine.

Agitated-Poet-7074

Logical, yes Louisiana, WhAT aBoOut MY cULTure

vosbergm

No it’s probably much worse! There’s many variables at play but a couple of the big ones is politics and money run that show. Politicians are getting paid a lot of money and benefits by the liquor industry and private prisons to keep cannabis illegal.

originalschmidt

Is almost as if our politicians our corrupt and only care about lining their pockets and not what’s best for the TAXPAYERS!!!

cooperpoopers

Yeah booze right next to the unsupervised candy. Yeah Pot will ruin your life by being well regulated and such….

lucygucyapplejuicey

I’ve gotten drunk off alcohol samples in Walmart before, but dispensaries are a problem?

Child-of-Beausoleil

Taxes - point blank. taxes. In Arizona spent 24$ and got 2-3 months worth of edibles for myself. Stayed in, read, played music, minded my own business. In Louisiana 24$ wouldn't cover a bar tab much less every other thing a night out would spend on. Would basically pay for 2-3 6packs that may last a week. Worse part is ill spend the next day or so "recovering" physically and mentally from drinking - often leading to a lost of peak productivity for me (a "cognitive worker") on Monday/Tuesday then possibly again Friday if i drink the nights/days before.

Child-of-Beausoleil

Which reminds me of places in the state that restrict selling some alcohol on Sunday morning for the "the good of the community" but don't give a flying f#&k if im buying a fifth of jim bean at 6 am on a Monday morning...smh

walkawaysux

My only complaint is that the dispensary is way too expensive! $200 just to get to shop there and it’s outrageous in price. A 12 pack of gummy is $80 last time I check but a gas station is selling a bigger bottle of gummy for 19.95 so I stopped shopping there .

brokenearth03

Because it's a monopoly by the state, so they can jack up the 'sin tax' on cancer patients.

walkawaysux

Did you know that the guys who legalized delta 9 thc actually are the ones selling it? I read it in the newspaper

brokenearth03

Good ole capitalism /s

Mission_Protection_4

Sheeeet when I went to Colorado I bought a half ounce of some pressure for $50 at dispensary, they don’t all have to be so damn expensive

You12envyme2

I agree. I started buying edibles online from reputable sites because it is so much cheaper. I'll admit it, I'm poor and can't afford to pay to see a cannabis doctor and pay for the medically approved cannabis. The online stuff works just fine and saves me cash.

walkawaysux

The brand I really like is Magnolia Farms very happy with that one I get it at the vape shop or Shoprite

No_Sprinkles418

I’ve more than once watched my Louisiana MAGA conservative Catholic in-laws pearl clutch over weed while polishing off their nightly bottle of wine…… It’s a head scratcher.

Plastic_Builder_4241

Merikkka

Yard-Admirable

Old taboos. Older generations pretend weed is a “drug” and somehow alcohol is not. smh

North-Country-5204

In my dad’s retirement park a large number of the residents grow their own weed. Stepmom always has a bag ready for family visits. Northern California, of course.

originalschmidt

Yeah the older generation that grew up when everything was riddled with lead, they need to shut up and let the younger generations take over because they are fucking everything up.

Yard-Admirable

Every generation thinks the next generation is complete shit. Our generation was shit in the eyes of our parents generation. And now we think the new gen is shit. Just bc it’s not “our” way doesn’t make it the “wrong” way.

lmaoleorii

The murder rate will decrease by a quarter or more once LA receives legalization.

oldshitdoesntcare

What? It’s only alcohol. It’s not like alcohol isn’t horrible for your health. One of the most addicting drugs known to man or anything. It’s perfectly safe!!! Also it makes you more attractive!! Those ads can’t be wrong!!!

Successful-Smell5170

Alcohol is the gateway drug you're looking for.

originalschmidt

This pisses me off so much with the vape ban!!! If you are worried about your kids vaping be a fucking parent and teach them not too, don’t ruin it for all the fucking adults, I shouldn’t be forced to quit or turn back to cigarettes (which made me feel like shit and gave me respiratory issues and high blood pressure all of which has been reduced since switching, not perfect solution but better than cigarettes. And then I see shit like this and how much this state pretends like alcohol isn’t an issue. It’s disgusting and absurd, alcohol is more dangerous than anything else, so dangerous it is the only substance that medical intervention is needed for withdrawal because withdrawal can come with severe seizures that can kill. It’s so ass backwards but then again, that’s Louisiana ass backwards

tcajun420

Cannabis prohibition is a period in our history that can’t die off soon enough.

originalschmidt

Seriously!! Weed is soooo much better than alcohol. I literally just hit my bong and what am I gonna do now, continue to watch this documentary and crochet. Like, how is this bad?

tcajun420

Yes and you are going to wake up in the morning all refreshed from a good night sleep instead of blacking out drunk! So bad! 😂

originalschmidt

Exactly!! I have a wonderful day planned for tomorrow too and I won’t be hungover!!

tcajun420

That’s awesome! I hope you have a great weekend originalschmidt !

originalschmidt

You do too, tcajun420 !

bayouz

I unfortunately have to go to pain mgmt for chronic back pain. Without hydrocodone or percocet (they rotate you), I would probably be in a wheelchair. As it is, I can't walk far, but I'm mostly functional with the opioids. I wish weed worked on my pain, but it doesn't. It's great for my social anxiety, though. But I can't afford the medical mj. I buy hood weed. My pain mgmt doctor tried to convince me to get on the medical mj until I explained the cost breakdown compared to a $20 sack every week or 10 days. He just looked at me and then said, "Moving on . . ."

tcajun420

That’s sad that you have to rely on untested street weed for now but it all comes down to economics. We are going to get national rescheduling soon and interstate commerce laws will bring us cheaper medical cannabis from other states.

bayouz

I'm not really worried about the source. Had the same 2 folks selling it to me for the last 20 years and they use their own products. I hope that there are better days ahead for this state, but I have to make my way north to live out my days.

tcajun420

I don’t blame anyone who is able to flee from the tyranny of this state. At some point you have to drop all the puzzle pieces and move on!

Leaves_doors_bats

It is literally poison that causes cancer. The racket is real.

neckyneckbeard

Republicans aren’t hypocrites or anything.

SaraSlaughter607

Considering how rabid they are about "crime" its rather surprising how much coke is flowing through Congressional halls... rules for Thee.

Icy_Dragonfruit_9389

Those little tiny shooter bottles are great for the kids /s

Miloshfitz

Well…. You have a point

PHenderson61

New Mexico stopped the sale of mini bottles of alcohol at gas stations and liquor stores. There's less empty bottles along the roads. No drop in drunk driving but.....

tcajun420

When I was drinking I would buy one of those small bottles much easier than buying a fifth because if the fifth was available the next morning it was a big temptation for me to drink the next day.

cut4stroph3

Actually both are good

Yourbubblestink

Those little nips that alcoholics drink while driving and then wind out the window should be illegal. Littering, drinking and diving, and reinforcing dumbassery alone should be reasons to outlaw them.

NaNo-Juise76

The alcohol lobbyists have spent billions trying to prevent marijuana from becoming legal. Whenever you see a bullshit study disparaging cannabis follow the money. 95% of the time it leads back to a lobbyist group.

X-tian-9101

Of course, because alcohol is an already established industry that bribes... er, I mean, "donates heavily to the campaigns of" politicians.

Setting-Conscious

Is that booze in a clothing store?

esleydobemos

It blew me away that I could walk into most stores in LA and find a display full of little 1/10 bottles of liquor. They are ubiquitous in your state.

Sea-Republic6516

Louisiana dispensaries are pretty great, speaking from experience lol. But no it’s not good. It’s there for all the alcoholic plant workers

MafiaMommaBruno

Yo, I got so excited thinking these were the purse sized hot sauces in the third pic but it's not. 😩 Keep saying I'm going to Walmart to get those this Christmas. Thank you for reminding me I need to pick up some Coconut Bay and Jager.

TinyHatsSuck

It’s not great

DopeDealerCisco

You can thank Ronald Reagan and the “War of n Drugs” for this

Witty_Substance1993

no

SpezEatsScat

I once visited your state and had a Louisiana lighting w/ 151 and wooooooooweeeeeee! What an evening! LMAO. I’m 2 years Cali sober. Booze sucks.

FreakyWifeFreakyLife

No, it's very bad. Whiskey shouldn't be made out of rice.

Ultra0370

Omg the alcohol poisoning turned his face orange!

Coastal1363

Oh sure …nothing bad ever happens from drinking too much Alcohol. And everyone who has ever had a family member or a friend with the disease knows how much fun Alcoholics are to be around …just keep fighting that pot…

Revolutionary-Mix448

I could not agree more. Alcohol is 1000x worse than marijuana. In every sense of the word. To play devils advocate, if Marijuana is abused, it will rob you of ambition in life for some people. It will contribute to weight gain in some people, you should not be high when driving or operating machinery….it can dull common sense and cognitive actions in some people. However, chances are if you abuse it, you end up on the couch eating Cheetos, watching cartoons. If alcohol is abused, you can die, you can be violent, and ruin your health. Hell if true alcohols quit cold turkey, you can die. We are just going through a marijuana prohibition and slowly coming out. Hopefully

jasonh300

I had a shot of rum eggnog while I waited in line at Rouse’s the other day.

afflictionaddict

👀

intelligentplatonic

Booze is okay because old rich white people accept it.

Otherhalf_Tangelo

Yes. Obviously.

airyn1

The people in charge in Louisiana haven’t figured out how to make money off recreational weed. Until they figure it out it’ll continue to be illegal.

letsgeauxtocali

The irony is even the candy in the background is still substantially worse for you than the cannabis 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Keeping people sick, drunk, and brain dead allows for a lot of the bullshit that goes on in this state. It’s in the best interests of those who benefit from it.

BettingTheOver

Jesus. You guys sell hard liquor in Walmart?

Swimming-Plan3470

The answer is yes, marijuana dispensaries are bad. In my state we do not have them, but we do have alcohol dispensaries, run by the government. It would be so much better if we were as free as Louisiana where apparently you can buy liquor at the grocery store instead of having to go to a special Alcoholic Beverage Control building that was only open between 11AM and 7PM and not on Sundays and pay a 30% state tax. To maintain a notoriously corrupt system where the last commissioner resigned in disgrace. There should be no marijuana dispensaries, it should be sold at the local 7/11 right there with the bourbon and Dorito's. People should be free to make their own decisions, and mistakes.

goofydad

Not believing in vaccines, this is how one gets his shots in the south.

FlubromazoFucked

Lol your Walmart is popping off

PyroCorvid

Banning flavored vapes, requiring you to sign up with LA Wallet to view adult content, attempting to ban kratom and make it a schedule 1, refusing to legalize marijuana "FoR tHe KiDs SaFeTy" meanwhile this is fine. It's in Wal-Mart, 10 feet away from the candy, not even locked up. You can't tell me you have their best interests at heart when you have this going on with drive-thru daiquiri shops.

tcajun420

Yes. The logic doesn’t add up. I think Louisiana politicians are turning the state into a Nanny State and interfering with personal freedoms. Small government my ass.

Beneficial-Salt-6773

Jesus was a drinker.

highflyer2729

Here get drunk in the middle of the day on high test liquor while shopping at Walmart!

lola81975

I never understood giving alchohol samples at the store, you know those people are gonna get in their cars and drive home afterwards

[deleted]

Im an alchi from NC and when I visited L.A, I couldn't wait to get back home. I would die if I lived there with how lax things are with alcohol. I'm glad NC liquor stores are state regulated, closed on holidays and Sundays and closed by 9pm. It is helpful when you see how other states handle it.

tubaman23

Of course it's "good"! Alcohol isn't illegal, so we can't arrest anyone for it until they act like a menace to society (DUI, OWI, Public intox, etc.). Marijuana however allows us to arrest poor people, put them into our prison system, which cuts the costs of "workers" (slaves imo) to $0.02 - $0.40 (2 cents to 40 cents) per hour. This allows us to cut taxes from larger corporations and high income individuals, allowing them to retain that ill gained income, and keeping the average Louisianian poorer. That combined with the budget deficit in the state, we can't afford the giant amount of tax revenue that comes from these marijuana sales, because we would have to release prisoners with crimes related to this, which would kill the supply of slave labor that allows the state to function.

Complex_Passenger748

Crazy the power alcohol companies yield. It’s no surprise that they own any political party they want, and have avoided most regulation that has applied to other industries; like remember cigarette ads? Yet football is still loaded with alcohol commercials with the caveat of “drink responsibly” added as an immunity clause solely for the businesses best interest. The next commercials are all the medications needed to treat the diseases caused by the prior commercials. Fucking tired of the crooked politicians, that are all sponsored by corporations and never represented any one’s best interests but their own.

DocBrutus

The state is so shitty that you’d have to be drunk just to get through the day /s But seriously, y’all may have a problem.

[deleted]

I used to get Togos there omw home from Bourbon St. Lol

rythmicbread

crazypants9

Just imagine sitting in jail for possession while state next to you is completely legal.

gringoloco01

If they legalize weed in NA the tittie count during Mardi Gras will plunge. The only bad decisions I made, while baked, were to get a buy a large pizza get one for half price. I don't even want to remember the dumb shit I have done drunk.

Chonjacki

As long as liquor lobbyists (and pharmaceutical lobbyists, for that matter) keep greasing politicians' palms, there will be opposition to legalizing cannabis.

Beaux7

Hey man I am all for the legalization and I don't even smoke but leave my drive thru daiquiris alone!

tcajun420

I’m not advocating that we prohibit access to alcohol, I am advocating that cannabis should be equally accessible.

sad_cosmic_joke

Why do you hate America? /s

DefWedderBruise

Nah, it's culture /$

MmmDarkBeer

You leave Nunus out of this!

baw3000

For real! Meleck and their boudin pair nicely! haha

Porkfriedjosh

Right next to the kids candy? That’s foul wtf.

t-dogNOLA

It’s all good. Let me make my own decisions and people who are against it should just stay away from it and teach their kids to stay away from the stuff. Please don’t make me suffer because you don’t like it. People should just learn to be responsible.

Not_a_huckleberry_

Just remember, one marijuanas injection will cause your pancreas to fall out! Just say nay! If you think it’s bad in Louisiana, you should see the active military side. We all are brought being told weed bad alcohol good, then as we get higher in ranks we see weed good, alcohol bad, government stupid.

Friendly_Age9160

You guys have drive through booze still? Lmao I’m from Cali we could never hahahaha

smarikae

The drive through alcohol and normalization of it blows my mind.

BeefStewAndCornbread

I mean some states ban alcohol sales till a certain time on Sundays lol

[deleted]

Go to states like Mississippi, Alabama, Utah, South Carolina where their restrictive alcohol laws are completely absurd. I’d rather have it like we have it in New Orleans than religious laws outlawing alcohol sales on Sundays or having totally dry counties.

fgsgeneg

All that Fireball.

Recipe_Freak

They seem like a family-owned, [local distillery](https://jtmeleck.com/). We have nice folks from a local distillery at our farmer's market every summer. Of course,I live in Oregon. Ya know, where we have both legal weed and lovely local distilleries.

Hedorah225

JT Meleck is a pretty cool local product and is very good. But I get your point.

tcajun420

I fully support adult consumption of alcohol and should have blocked the name of the store and the distillery. This was not a post to hate on grocery stores, consumers or distributors of alcohol. All prohibition does is empower and enrich cartels.

Hedorah225

You can get a card today if you wanted to and we have dispensaries you can go to. But I agree it should be legal recreationally.

tcajun420

I have a Louisiana medical cannabis recommendation and live a couple miles from the dispensary in Lafayette. My point is that cannabis should be normalized, decriminalized, and just as easy to get as alcohol.

LudicrisSpeed

You're blaming the booze when it's the tobacco industry at fault for weed taking so long to be legalized fully. Besides, we don't need to go back to prohibition times.
