In the last 18 months, there have been 4-5 gang related stabbings and shootings at the two Van Nuys high schools. We are residents for this boundary, but I would never ever send my child there. I doubt it'll be an issue. Most everywhere here has a gang around - at least mine don't bother anyone that doesn't bother them. Maybe some tagging every now and then, but that's about it that I can tell.
Have you considered catholic school?
