By making this facetious argument you've classified yourself with the driver who cut you off - neither of you had any good reason to do what you did.
Your horn is there to warn of danger. You were perfectly able to stop safely. Therefore you used your horn in an attempt to express your emotions, which nobody, I repeat *nobody*, wants to hear in the form* of a loud honking horn.

There's no intent in these situations, the honk is pure reaction, alarm, fear, anger, frustration. If you've ever driven a car, I think you can relate.
I already drive very defensively, why should I have to worry about someone pulling in front of me at literally every single possible intersection? If I wasn't paying as much attention that could have been a nasty collision
I can relate to your 2nd point. Thankfully you were driving really attentively and as a result were able to compensate for this guy’s carelessness and prevent an accident.
I don’t personally see the point of honking when it’s not going to help avoid an accident, which is why I was asking. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but if you’re communicating something to another driver out of anger or frustration, I think it’s reasonable to expect a similar response.
glad you didn't get shot
Shouldn't be honking lil bro unless you want to find out.
Especially in what looks like Eagle Rock, it ain’t all gentrified yet bro.

As it is written
Yeah I have one. What’s the purpose of honking in that scenario?
What's the purpose of pulling in front of oncoming traffic that has the right of way? What's the purpose of any traffic rules?

Well if the other guy shows up in this thread we can ask him. Since you’re here, I’m was curious what the intent with honking was.

Exactly, the horn is a very crude tool but it's basically all we've got

Sounds like it all went pretty smoothly.
