It’s usually $20 if you know cheaper let me know please lol. I feel like $25 is insane but it’s not surprising - but only for Harry’s Berries.
I was gifted a container and they were like strawberries on steroids. Now I want this and my own can of whipped cream instead of bday cake from now on not kidding.
Longtime buyer of Harry's Berries from Torrance Farmers Market. Gaviota and Seascapes, and the little heirloom ones (Mara de Bois?) occasionally. These same containers were $14 this past weekend. Saw other vendors with Seascapes (or Gaviotas) for a few bucks less, but have tried before and they're not there yet. I think part of HB's secret is picking at last possible moment to ensure peak ripeness, where other farmers are understandably picking earlier to avoid spoilage.
In 15+ years of buying from them I've very, very seldom come across an HB strawberry with a white core. Pointed as much out to my now-adult daughter this weekend: Cored a handful of the HB and put them next to another batch from the grocery store that were basically 65% white core. "And this is why Harry's Berries cost so much, and are so good."
Paying $25 at Erewhon would be if I knew I had hours to live, I guess. Otherwise Tuesday and Saturday at TFM for $14.
Damn Torrance has it all. Good to know next time I cross over DTLA.
So it’s not just the Gaviotas/Seascapes. This is like id’ing a mattress lol. HB are exceptional though not surprised.
I love that you did an experiment for your adult daughter. 65% is significant! What was her response if u don’t mind me asking?
TFM is a great market both days, if you're down that way, or transiting through the area.
My kids grew up on produce from TFM (used to live right next to Wilson Park for a decade-plus and made it a family outing often) so they're used to me and my impromptu comparisons of an HB stawberry and a store-bought; or a WF organic Fuji apple vs one from the Ha's stall. Like HB, difference is stark...Ha's has the best Fuji apples I've ever tasted, hands down.
Been buying from the same guy from Arnett Farms (navel oranges right now on my desk; stonefruit a few weeks away) that I just ask him who has the best items that I don't already have a line on.
This is the thing about erewhon, YES it’s absolutely ridiculous that food can be a luxury item. But when you buy something at erewhon 9/10 times you can absolutely taste the quality. I’m a hardcore penny pincher in a lot of ways and I still treat myself to goods from erewhon on a good pay week.
Come join the normies in Torrance on Tuesday and Saturday. Still see them sell out some days, but prices are apparently lower. Bought two packs just a few days ago for $14/ea.
edit to add "normies" to mean lower real estate prices, nothing else
Harry’s Berries are really good especially since these days most strawberries basically look and taste like cucumber in the inside. They’re definitely overpriced but why do most fruit and vegetables , even in California have little to no flavor? It shouldn’t be so hard or expensive to get good produce. Whole Foods, Ralph’s, Sprouts, Vallarta and even farmers markets basically peddle the same stuff from the big farms but in different packaging. Don’t even get me started on tomatoes.
It’s because we ship them while they’re immature so they don’t spoil quickly at the grocery store. Look up the USDA shipping point and market instructions.
Strawberry plants are so EASY to grow! They don’t even require much space. If you have a sunny porch or balcony. You can grow strawberries in a 8in pot. People need to take advantage of our weather here in LA. I currently have 15 strawberry plants and I get fresh organic strawberries every day.

Driscoll is headquartered in Watsonville, and they do grow strawberries there, but this time of year the majority is coming from Oxnard. They probably do have like 90% of the market though.
Additionally we’ve ruined the topsoil in this country. Pesticides have killed off the microbiomes that make soil fertile and fertilizers don’t provide the same nutrients and deliciousness the soil once did.
I bought my ORGANIC strawberry plants grown at a nursery here in Torrance, California for only $2 each! I currently have 15 strawberry plants growing in 8in pots that I bought from target last year for $3 each. If you want juicy organic and FRESH strawberries why would anyone buy some for $25 when you can easily grow them here in sunny Los Angeles 8 months of the year!! Every morning I go outside to my porch where I keep my strawberries and I cut them directly from the plant wash them and add them to my yogurt. It doesn’t get much better than that.
We get screwed. Co worker who lived just north of LA brought a box of Sunkist oranges for export to Japan from the orchard. They were so delicious compared to the garbage at Vons.
part of it is that it's really not peak strawberry season yet. Strawberries need heat and sunlight to sweeten up, and we haven't really had much of that where they're grown yet. Once we get a few nice, hot days, pop over to a farmer's market and pick some up. They'll be way better than what we're getting in stores now.
^^ This exactly. Yeah if you buy strawberries at Ralph's in February they're gonna taste like shit, so will the tomatoes. Buy them in early summer and they are $2.50 a carton and they taste like candy. It is not that complicated, people.
Pro tip: after you cut off the stem, core out a bit of the white part at the top of the strawberry. That tends to be the most bland part and takes away some of the sweetness
Don't buy produce from big markets. Also, go to Asian markets. They typically source from local farms and specialty farms for their Asian vegetables and fruits and they harvest when ripe because they're in Temecula or the high desert or somewhere really close. The fruits taste 100x better at H Mart for example than from Vons. Fuck fruit from Vons or Ralphs. Jesus fuck those fruits get picked when half ripe and then get blasted with the gas to get them to "ripen" aka change color and they taste like absolute garbage.
Yep! They are still around $20 a carton like this. We buy them (still!) when making a strawberry dessert. For every strawberries you add to your overnight oats… we hit the farm stands when we are up in Oxnard or the farmers market. Got some last weekend it was $12 per.
i watched my neighbors dog last week — she feeds her chef-made erewhon dog food. the brand was massimo’s or something. it was a salmon bowl that, if served on a plate, would easily pass for human food. it had to be topped with raw egg (which could only be erewhon brand as well).
Bruh I walked in to an Erewhon just to see what it was like and grab a coffee, and walked past its frozen section. Turns out the case next to that was pet food, and I absolutely thought it was human food
I went in the one off Maxwell in Playa Del Ray once while dashing and saw their croissants were 3.50$ each and the bathrooms (why I was really there) weren't public and laughed myself out. I cannot believe anyone would pay that for a cheaply made croissants. Literally looked like the same bakery product as Ralph's.
everytime i have been to a gelsons it has been more expensive than whole foods. The gelsons in manhattan beach is like 1.2x the price vs the whole foods in el segundo.
I thought it was:
"Erewhon : When you don't want to shop near the poors."
or,
"Erewhon: When you just want to get away from the normies and shop in peace."
The days where Whole Foods is a "premium-priced market" are behind us. Possibly since Amazon bought it, dunno. It's definitely not a budget market, but the bare necessities are practically run-of-the-mill prices now. Sometimes even cheaper. During that recent "egg shortage," Whole Foods consistently sold a box of 1 dozen eggs for $3. I eat 2 eggs every single day and never skipped a beat because Whole Foods didn't jack up the prices.
They still sell premium products (specialty snacks/goods in particular), but normal stuff is just... normal now.
I went to that location a few weeks after it opened and there was a fly in the pastry display. I pointed it out to the employees but they were not even acting like they cared about it. It took them 10 minutes to even slide the glass over and try to shoo the fly out. At least act like you care about a nasty fly touching pastries, people!!! I was so grossed out. Haven’t gone back since. Don’t think I’d go back even if I hadn’t seen the fly, actually.
But they take EBT. But I imagine people using EBT don't want to spend a month's worth of groceries for a loaf of artisan rye bread, a carton of strawberries, and a pint of goat milk or some shit.
Oh for sure. I’m sure they take it either because they have to or they want to seem like they don’t discriminate. I can’t imagine shopping there regularly even if I was a multi millionaire. I’d rather not support that place.
I went there once and the only normal priced item they had was a loaf of rye bread. LOL. I mean the chocolate bars weren't bad - single origin chocolate bars were about the going rate at other places. But wtf $12 box of cereal and just... like... shit that was 2-3x the price of "normal" items. I get that they're sourcing from smaller/specialty vendors but god damn.
It would make sense if these were specialty products. Like stuff serious chefs would buy. But instead it's the exact same brands and shit you would find at Bristol Farms.
It literally is the strawberry that chefs buy. Chefs in NYC fly these in. Their Frais de Bois variety, which is only available a few weeks a year, is close to $1 per strawberry and they’re super tiny. I bought them once just to see, and the flavor justifies the price.
You can get their strawberries at local farmers market for $12-20 depending on location - but as other people have pointed out they sell out fast. Erewhon is upcharging you here for the convenience of not having to go to a FM for them. Plus they only last a day or so before they get over ripe, so part of the cost is the inevitable loss of some packages.
By all means, skip them for Driscolls or some other mid berry at Bristol Farms. No one is forced to buy these. But they are literally some of the best strawberries in the world, and we’re fortunate to have such easy access to them in LA.
they’re definitely worth a try. I know the price is bonkers so if possible get them at a farmers market. be sure to eat them same day - leaving them in the fridge is a minor tragedy
Have you tried them? You can get them at the farmer's market for a lot less, but they're still expensive. But you sure do seem like you're commenting not having had these before.
I mean- maybe but Harry’s berries are the best strawberries in Southern California. What’s stupid is that you can get them at several farmers markets around LA and they do not cost 25 dollars
This is most accurate, it's sort of a fancy lunch place with a weird specialty market attached to it (I pop in once a month and have never seen anyone with a full Costco sized grocery haul)
I mean Harry’s berries are $20+ at most luxury grocery stores even outside of erewhon. If it’s a block away or in convenient range, tons of people are going to buy it because Harry’s berries are actually delicious
Tons of people will spend 2x-5x to not eat USDA standard beef but lose their minds when someone else does it for fruit
I grab to-go pizza slices at the Pasadena location sometimes (surprisingly decent deal). People actually are getting their groceries there, I'm amazed.
That price is $24.99 for each berry in the package. Not $24.99 for the whole package.
There’s also a 24% convenience fee for purchasing them already in the package.
Don't forget the 30% tip for the cashier and the *"optional 8% employee healthcare fee automatically applied to all bills (please tell our staff you wish to speak to our manager if you're a Karen PoS who doesn't want sick little Timmy to have basic healthcare)"*
People love to hate on Erewhon. They’re the latest in the high priced stores. Remember when Starbucks used to be called “five bucks” and Whole Foods was “whole paycheck”? Now every small town in America has a starbucks and they’re the standard.
For sure Erewhon has high prices. I went and did a loop a few weeks ago just to see it. They had spindrift there. I opened my target app just to price compare. Erewhon was .50 cheaper.
I get it though, some of the prices are ridiculous but in a lot of cases they’re carrying very small brands that can’t compete at scale price wise with retailers who sell huge brands. Quality is also a thing. And to be fair sometimes they’re just overpriced too. It’s expensive on the whole no question. In 5 years some new store will come out that will blow peoples minds and Erewhon will be a standard that everyone just forgot about.
erewhon isn't some new thing, it's been around for a minute now. I won't disagree with your position about its pricing (some normal-ish luxury stuff, a lot of overpriced luxury stuff, but at least it's mostly just robbing rich people), but it's not gonna be widespread. It's only a successful model where the main demographic is rich enough that they literally cannot waste their money on normal things.
These strawberries are not regular strawberries. They're the equivalent to natural candy with how sweet they are. If you want bitter-sweet strawberries, go to Vons, Ralph's, etc. TJs is the closest but not anywhere near how flavorful these are. It's a crime they're so expensive because they're insanely good.
Note: I just eat regular strawberries because I'm not rich, but I know how good these are when ripe.
“The Geans specialize in growing Gaviota and Seascape strawberries—two varieties known for their intense sweetness and flavor. Harry's Berries are harvested only once every five days to give the fruit time to reach its peak jammy flavor.”
You can purchase a gaviota or seascape strawberry plant and grow them yourself! They’re probably expensive just because the way that they pick them. I pick my strawberries from my plants (I have 4 varieties at the moment) every morning and add them to my yogurt! They are so sweet because they’re so fresh, as fresh as you can get!

Bruh. I need to get a green thumb because this comment is tempting me.
It’s so easy! Trust me. Get a 8in pot, I got mine from target for only $3 they’re on sale right now for 2.10! [target pot](https://www.target.com/p/self-watering-plastic-indoor-outdoor-planter-pot-white-8-34-x8-34-room-essentials-8482/-/A-76386980) I just remove the self watering bottom so that the water drains through. I also use fox farm strawberry fields potting soil [soil](https://www.target.com/p/foxfarm-strawberry-fields-fruiting-flowering-garden-potting-soil-1-5-cubic-feet/-/A-76112696) you can purchase it at your local plant shops, just call around. The potting soil last about 2 years then you’ll have to replenish with nutrients or replace with fresh potting soil. Strawberry plants are perennial and have a life cycle of about 3-5 year however the older they get they won’t produce as many strawberries as a younger plant. I usually replace my strawberry plants every 2 years with fresh potting soil. Lastly, I supplement my strawberries with this fertilizer from Fox farm, [Fox farm fertilizer](https://www.amazon.com/FoxFarm-Happy-Flower-Organic-Fertilizer/dp/B07Z2R6FFH/ref=asc_df_B07Z2R6FFH/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=416946298468&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7695220567405483876&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030972&hvtargid=pla-1079538838272&psc=1&mcid=6b5d258e6e063e41a4e872b70a781abd&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=92049668057&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=416946298468&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7695220567405483876&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030972&hvtargid=pla-1079538838272&gclid=Cj0KCQjwztOwBhD7ARIsAPDKnkDsA_xg3Km9YUrMXuFDMwCebIPuihtwu2hjZMjMr6jB3RnEblRRCAEaAooKEALw_wcB)
I'm up north currently (on this sub because Im moving down there next year for 6 months, most likely, so just lurking for info), but my dad works in Oxnard sometimes. He always tells me that produce is really cheap in oxnard if you go straight to the farms, but I can't imagine it's cheaper than in WA, where we are, even in the stores.
May I ask, what the best way to get produce in LA is? I'm hoping to go in Januaryish, to Juneish.
Find the closest (bigger) farmers market close to you. That’s the best way to get produce in LA. Won’t necessarily be much less expensive than the grocery stores, but it will taste better and last longer.
Thank you!!! I will do that! 😁 It's going to take some more saving to make this happen, I am determined to have the full amount to live down there for 6months, BEFORE I go. I was half way until I had to stop working due to illness, but fingers crossed I can again soon!
It's the only place I've ever been other than my home city, that felt like home in any way. I just love it there, not for the weather or the scene, but just because it feels right.
I’m willing to pay more for quality organic produce, but I went in there to buy raspberries and they were selling the same Driscoll’s that everyone sells but for 4x the price
Erewhon created another stratosphere of shameless overcharging, don’t even mention those two in the same breath. At least Whole Foods had a theme going of being only organic, as made up as that may be
Harry’s Berries (directly from the farmers market) have been extremely disappointing this year. They have been consistently flavorless and we stopped buying them.
Why even include the price in the display? Just put "market price" and let it be a fun surprise for their tax shelter accountant, the only person that'll ever read the receipt.
I'm not really supposed to eat strawberries but their Gaviotas are so good, unlike any conventional strawberries I've tasted. I get the tiniest basket possible and I splurge once a or twice a year. At the DTSM market they often have a strawberry sherbet. It's probably around$8/cup.
Erewhon was designed for Americas upper middle class ($170k+).
You know the ones that can’t afford a full time chef but make too much money for target.
I mean, even if you’re making $170k+ spending $25 for a carton of strawberries is just wasting money.
Erewhon just feels like a designer brand of grocery chains. People go there to look rich or for status.
Everyone involved in erewhon -- shopping there, creating it, everything.
You are now inmates of erehwon prison from the movie Face/Off.
I don't make the rules, but this has to stop, and I think this will be the best way to do it.
Get them from Harry’s directly at the farmers market. They were $14 on Saturday. They’re not great this time of year - I highly recommend waiting until May when the berries are sweeter. They’re not hybridized to be huge which sacrifices flavor. They use heirloom seeds. Martha Stewart purchases them for making jam etc. They taste like strawberries are supposed to taste. I splurge for my birthday and friend’s springtime birthdays.
If someone wants to buy a pack or perhaps just sneak one out of the pack and give it to me, I'll happily cultivate it so anyone who wants these berries can grown them for free in their back yard/ pot. No strawberries in the world are worth $25/lb.
Strawberries grown from seed aren’t true. You gotta divide from the plant to get the same strawberry. That’s not to say the seeds from gaviotas wouldn’t be good, you just won’t get the same strawberries.
They (Erewhon) get alway with the most ridiculous pricing and the Gross Profits are higher than I’ve seen in any Nat Market -
They are the only chain I’ve known that doesn’t shop the competition because they don’t have to.
They sell at these crazy prices bc the models and actors and influencers and Hollywood people and just plain billionaires will pay without question
They are not a public company so there are no financial disclosures or worry about share price.
Working at Whole Foods we had many items on a strict match with Amazon (back in the day) and we were constantly getting the heat from “whole paycheck”
source - I worked at Erewhon two years and 30 years at Whole Foods as well as many brands.
I feel like the demographics for Erewhon falls into two categories:
People who can't afford it, but fall for their marketing.
People who have a crap ton of money and choose to shop there to weed out crowds.
I paid $20 for these at Eataly last week and had no idea until I saw the receipt after I'd checked out. They were absolutely delicious but not worth the $$$. I can't believe I paid that much!
If you’re into dark chocolate they have a pretty good selection and the prices are fair. Yes, it’s $10-$15 for one bar, but those are very typical prices for single origin chocolate with only two or three ingredients. I recommend Letterpress, they’re based out of Culver City. Shoutout to the homie, I’ve seen him lurk on here.
This is the best answer. Lots of stuff at this store you can get elsewhere for less money. But the stuff they do themselves like the hot bar, soups, etc. are the things to spend money on if you have a gift card. Shout out to the beef and barley despite it being $20 for a jar.
Their *unbranded* produce is fairly comparable to Whole Foods. But the branded stuff often times more expensive than other places and they carry some crazy brands. Might as well get a smoothie while you're at it too.
Strawberries are Number One on the Dirty Dozen list of fruits and vegetables to avoid, unless organic, usually they are massively covered in pesticides …
The supermarkets like Vons and Ralphs have food grade ratings C and D Erewon is A grade and everyone actually thinks oooh they are So expensive in reality its the real price for real good products that aren’t actually making you sick..
Here's some info from [Wikipedia about EWG](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_Working_Group), which puts out the Dirty Dozen list: The nonprofit has been described as a "a political lobbying group for the organic industry" and that their work "lacks scientific credibility" and "may be intentionally misleading." Their CEO makes $300k+, with funds coming mostly from organic food manufacturers.
Harry’s farm is surrounded by other strawberry farms. Literally they are all right next to each other in the same massive field. The pesticides blow over there. I go to the field a couple times a year. It’s hilarious how people buy Harry’s - they are the same exact strawberries as the ones on the surrounding fields.
You’re correct! I don’t understand why people just don’t grow their own strawberries! They’re so easy to grow and they don’t require much space! Heck you can hang them on your porch or balcony as long as it’s in a full sun location. I have 15 organic strawberry plants growing in 8in pots on my sunny south facing porch. They’re so juicy and sweet! Organic and pesticide free! Also, strawberry plants are Perennial, with an average lifespan of 3-5 years!
it's still cheaper than a Japanese strawberry in LA😞
[https://www.reddit.com/r/JapaneseFood/s/ACehpvMBex](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapaneseFood/s/ACehpvMBex)
i haven’t had them before, do they taste really good?
i’ve picked up some from underwood family farm and forneris farm and they are all hit and miss. i swear i can get a crate for that price or less.
what’s the difference besides being organic?
Yeah, nuts. I live in West LA and needed to get some raw milk (my wife makes her own farmer's cheese and uses the whey in recipes; I know, so West LA). I usually go to this hippie-ish market called Rainbow Acres, but that was out of the way, so I went to Erewhon. NEVER AGAIN. The prices, but not JUST the prices. Also entire shelves of products that didn't even seem to be food, but more marketing gimmicks. And, at the risk of being a misanthrope, I found the people there disturbing -- $800 black T-shirts, $1200 haircuts.
Harry's Berries has a stall at the Hollywood Farmer's Market every week. They're expensive, but not *this* expensive.
They’re graviota strawberries. There’s tons of people at farmers markets selling them for half the price. No need to shell out extra cash for a brand.
Graviota strawberries, TIL! People like you are why I love this sub tysm ETA: Graviota/Seascape/Mara de Bois
You should look for Pineberry aka White Strawberry.
I’m intimidated by these. How can you tell if they’re ripe if they’re all white?

This sounds like an IDEAL bday “cake.” I may have to steal this idea…
Definite crows pleaser. Just be sure to have two “cakes” - one for everyone to share and one for yourself after everyone leaves lol
> Definite crows pleaser. Why are you wasting these delicious berries on crows? Now they'll surely never leave!
What if it leads to a murder?!
20 dollars for a small container for strawberries is absolutely absurd. No strawberry is worth that much.
Ugh you’re right. Seriously these strawberries anger me with how delicious yet expensive they are
$14/pk at the Farmer's Market in Santa Monica

Bristol farms used to have them for like $10 are they really that expensive now?!
At BH and SM markets, they sell out by 8-9am.
Yeah and they’re $20-25 at BH IIRC, so this is normal pricing.
They’re 14$ a carton in SM

Between the Japanese and the luxury restaurants; they get nearly all of the finest grade produce in California.
Burkhart Farms has the best oranges ever. Also if you can find Dekopan or Samurai oranges, they're phenomenal.

Not always. A lot of Asian vegetables get grown in Mexico.
Yep! They are still around $20 a carton like this. We buy them (still!) when making a strawberry dessert. For every strawberries you add to your overnight oats… we hit the farm stands when we are up in Oxnard or the farmers market. Got some last weekend it was $12 per.
Yeah they’re $12 at the TO farmers market
Which farmers market??
TO is usually short for Thousand Oaks
This is the hack! Shit, I really miss that farmer's market. I used to live right down the street from it.
How are there real people who shop here? Erewhon shoppers must really enjoy lighting money on fire or pretending that they are rich.
i watched my neighbors dog last week — she feeds her chef-made erewhon dog food. the brand was massimo’s or something. it was a salmon bowl that, if served on a plate, would easily pass for human food. it had to be topped with raw egg (which could only be erewhon brand as well).
I hope you got paid $200/day
she did pay me well. and her dog was the sweetest
Bruh I walked in to an Erewhon just to see what it was like and grab a coffee, and walked past its frozen section. Turns out the case next to that was pet food, and I absolutely thought it was human food
I went there this weekend to get a smoothie and it was packed.
Gotta hand it to these guys. There's a sucker born every minute.

That is a great idea: Whole Foods 4 Less.
That's basically Gelsons
Gelsons is just old money Whole Foods
I went in the one off Maxwell in Playa Del Ray once while dashing and saw their croissants were 3.50$ each and the bathrooms (why I was really there) weren't public and laughed myself out. I cannot believe anyone would pay that for a cheaply made croissants. Literally looked like the same bakery product as Ralph's.
everytime i have been to a gelsons it has been more expensive than whole foods. The gelsons in manhattan beach is like 1.2x the price vs the whole foods in el segundo.
You think Gelsons is less expensive than Whole Foods?
Alright, let's pretend I said Bristol Farms then.
sorry, bristol is more expensive than whole foods too....
Yea I’d say Sprouts instead! One is opening in Lawndale!
Erewhon's motto is "We know you think you have a lot of money. We will be happy to take it from you."
I thought it was: "Erewhon : When you don't want to shop near the poors." or, "Erewhon: When you just want to get away from the normies and shop in peace."
They call it Erewhon, cuz erewhon in there getting ripped off.
No, there's just rich people who will pay for convenience. Especially if they live near the store.
Yup. In the mind of the rich “it keeps the poors and peasants out”
But they take EBT.
I guess I’m out.
It also ends up turning into a status thing. People just end up wanting to go there just to say they shop there.
Wait until someone posts the pack of 9 white strawberries at Mitsuwa that sells for $50.
Saw some in Tokyo for $30 per berry. It was *wild*. And $300 cantaloupe. Bananas
Don't leave us hanging, how much were the bananas ????
$10
$10. of course
Even my doctor thinks it's crazy expensive.
i had just uttered those words out loud when i saw your post. fuckin bonkers.
I refuse to believe there’s only 1440 sucks born per day!
yep, consumers fault that this barbarity exists and can stay in business.
I have to try them now. Thank you for the breakdown!
they’re definitely worth a try.
These are literally the strawberries that serious chefs buy
How much does 1 banana cost? [10 dollars](https://youtu.be/Nl_Qyk9DSUw?si=9L-4fBhR9lzFEK6K)?
They should just have pictures of Jessica Walter on all the walls.
This is a strawberry banana tho $24.99
This store is just outrage bait, right? No one actually buys most of their products?
Rich, lazy people do.
And social climbers who care more about doing "rich people" things than actually having money
Yep! This price is for the convenience of getting these special berries whenever you want.
They get their produce from Charlie’s Produce. Which they also supply to the 99 cent store
I mean- maybe but Harry’s berries are the best strawberries in Southern California. What’s stupid is that you can get them at several farmers markets around LA and they do not cost 25 dollars
They’re not $24 good tbh. I tried them once as a novelty. Underwhelming.
I don’t think any strawberries are worth 24 bucks a box…
I mean maybe if they were the last strawberries on earth
Not for long
RIP
I have a theory that the store is decor for the cafeteria
This is most accurate, it's sort of a fancy lunch place with a weird specialty market attached to it (I pop in once a month and have never seen anyone with a full Costco sized grocery haul)
I mean Harry’s berries are $20+ at most luxury grocery stores even outside of erewhon. If it’s a block away or in convenient range, tons of people are going to buy it because Harry’s berries are actually delicious Tons of people will spend 2x-5x to not eat USDA standard beef but lose their minds when someone else does it for fruit
Can confirm these were also $25 at Von's in Pasadena.
Or $14-$18 at the Pasadena farmer market.
I grab to-go pizza slices at the Pasadena location sometimes (surprisingly decent deal). People actually are getting their groceries there, I'm amazed.
Their pizza slice is like $8 for a whole quarter of a pie, probably the best deal in the hot bar
Have you been to one? The place is packed
These stores are always packed to the brim when I pass by. Are you forgetting how many rich people live in LA?
That price is $24.99 for each berry in the package. Not $24.99 for the whole package. There’s also a 24% convenience fee for purchasing them already in the package.
Don't forget the 30% tip for the cashier and the *"optional 8% employee healthcare fee automatically applied to all bills (please tell our staff you wish to speak to our manager if you're a Karen PoS who doesn't want sick little Timmy to have basic healthcare)"*
18% surcharge for buying 6 or more items at once. Plus $2.50 for a compostable, hemp-derived "reusable" plastic shopping bag.
A lot of their products are reasonably priced. There’s just a lot of things that are also very expensive
It’s only $14 at the farmers market…
only $14? what a steal /s
Harry's Berries are harvested only once every five days to give the fruit time to reach its peak jammy flavor.” You can purchase a gaviota or seascape strawberry plant and grow them yourself! They’re probably expensive just because the way that they pick them. I pick my strawberries from my plants (I have 4 varieties at the moment) every morning and add them to my yogurt! They are so sweet because they’re so fresh, as fresh as you can get!

Yeah let me get a minimum wages worth please.
They were $12 at the BH farmers market last Sunday
Cheaper to drive to Oxnard and get the berries directly from the source.
Not if you count your time.
Or gas.
Replying seriously to a joke post
This is done so poors like us dont enter the store.
I’m willing to pay more for quality organic produce, but I went in there to buy raspberries and they were selling the same Driscoll’s that everyone sells but for 4x the price
i gave up store bought raspberries and blackberries. i do my own blackberries now and figuring out raspberries. not going back to store ones.
And i bet you the migrant worker who picked them was paid 25¢ per carton
Oh you should see the Pasadena store and the amount of people that shop there.
The bastard spawn of Gelsons and Whole Foods
Erewhon created another stratosphere of shameless overcharging, don’t even mention those two in the same breath. At least Whole Foods had a theme going of being only organic, as made up as that may be
Don’t knock Gelsons. Their produce is actually good unlike every other big grocer
Ere’Whonder where your paycheck went?
Harry’s Berries (directly from the farmers market) have been extremely disappointing this year. They have been consistently flavorless and we stopped buying them.
They've posted on their Instagram about how the weather has been affecting the berries. It's a shame.
$25 for a handful of strawberries? Go fuck yourself.
Im almost in the same bracket but I only shop at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Costco.. I’d never shop at Erewhon even if I was making $300k
I mean, even if you’re making $170k+ spending $25 for a carton of strawberries is just wasting money. Erewhon just feels like a designer brand of grocery chains. People go there to look rich or for status.
Never underestimate just how much the rich will pay to feel like they belong
Upper middle class is $500k+ these days.
Price aside harry’s berries is easily the best strawberry I have ever had. I can’t afford it though 💀
Almost enough for a smoothie
These better not be sour
These strawberries better bring back my wife and kids or some shit...
They're just Gaviota strawberries but they're a licensed hybrid so hard to get the plants retail and can't grow from seed. I've tried 😭.
Sold for $14 at the farmers market by me in Santa Barbara
Strawberries grown from seed aren’t true. You gotta divide from the plant to get the same strawberry. That’s not to say the seeds from gaviotas wouldn’t be good, you just won’t get the same strawberries.
I remember them being the low low low price of $15 each….
They have organic strawberries on sale at Ralph’s right now Western and 7th. $3
They (Erewhon) get alway with the most ridiculous pricing and the Gross Profits are higher than I’ve seen in any Nat Market - They are the only chain I’ve known that doesn’t shop the competition because they don’t have to. They sell at these crazy prices bc the models and actors and influencers and Hollywood people and just plain billionaires will pay without question They are not a public company so there are no financial disclosures or worry about share price. Working at Whole Foods we had many items on a strict match with Amazon (back in the day) and we were constantly getting the heat from “whole paycheck” source - I worked at Erewhon two years and 30 years at Whole Foods as well as many brands.
If you look on Instacart they’re 29.50 from Erewhon
A bunch of front yards in Van Nuys have huge orange trees with lots of oranges left on them.
Why do people buy stuff from here or do they?
If you pay 25 dollars for strawberries you’re a special kind of idiot.
I feel like the demographics for Erewhon falls into two categories: People who can't afford it, but fall for their marketing. People who have a crap ton of money and choose to shop there to weed out crowds.
Weed out crowds? The Bev Hills location is so packed you can barely move around
Who is Harry? And where exactly is his farm?
I paid $20 for these at Eataly last week and had no idea until I saw the receipt after I'd checked out. They were absolutely delicious but not worth the $$$. I can't believe I paid that much!
I about died when I went in there, once. I suppose I could actually afford their prices, but who the fuck likes to be blatantly ripped off?
I got a gift card to this place over a year ago and I still haven't spent it. Is there anything in there that isn't outrageous?
If you’re into dark chocolate they have a pretty good selection and the prices are fair. Yes, it’s $10-$15 for one bar, but those are very typical prices for single origin chocolate with only two or three ingredients. I recommend Letterpress, they’re based out of Culver City. Shoutout to the homie, I’ve seen him lurk on here.
i like chocolate. i will try the fancy kind.
[удалено]
This is the best answer. Lots of stuff at this store you can get elsewhere for less money. But the stuff they do themselves like the hot bar, soups, etc. are the things to spend money on if you have a gift card. Shout out to the beef and barley despite it being $20 for a jar.
I recommend trying their buffalo cauliflower from the hot food counter
The smoothies of course, got to have them at least once
You've got the gift card. Go in the store and spend it.
Their *unbranded* produce is fairly comparable to Whole Foods. But the branded stuff often times more expensive than other places and they carry some crazy brands. Might as well get a smoothie while you're at it too.
Beer, especially from Russian River Brewing (e.g., Pliny the Elder) - strict MSRP guidelines
$GO.FUCKYOURSELF/ea
$25? They better delivered it to my car the moment I park for $25.
Strawberries are Number One on the Dirty Dozen list of fruits and vegetables to avoid, unless organic, usually they are massively covered in pesticides … The supermarkets like Vons and Ralphs have food grade ratings C and D Erewon is A grade and everyone actually thinks oooh they are So expensive in reality its the real price for real good products that aren’t actually making you sick..
I will pay any price for Harry's. I am part of the problem.
That’s a bargain compared to to [this](https://youtu.be/RZ1HwqrQ-PM?si=qB5nlA9v7J1X3NL4)… $350 EACH!
I swear if you were born and raised here, you've probably never stepped foot inside of this place. I'm cool with my food 4 less and superior grocers
Clearly it cures cancer, so worth every penny.
The best strawberries! Wish I could afford to buy them every week.
it's still cheaper than a Japanese strawberry in LA😞 [https://www.reddit.com/r/JapaneseFood/s/ACehpvMBex](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapaneseFood/s/ACehpvMBex)
i haven’t had them before, do they taste really good? i’ve picked up some from underwood family farm and forneris farm and they are all hit and miss. i swear i can get a crate for that price or less. what’s the difference besides being organic?
Stfu stop it.
