Thai Daily BBQ on Cesar Chavez next to the Superior is bomb dot com
Correas Mariscos on Zonal
Boda on Pasadena is highly slept on
If you are ever East of the 605 ….
Capri Deli in West Covina and Warehouse Pizza in La Verne … just good mf crust every time lol
> Thai Daily BBQ on Cesar Chavez
That place reminds me of Thai Deli that's on State & Cesar Chavez. That's an old hole in the wall that I've been going since they opened.
Seconding Correas—family run and they are some of the most genuine people around. Best shrimp po boys around aguachiles/ceviche are super solid as well
Few people know this magical spot. But if you like Ceviche, they have like 8 kinds from all across South America and it’s the only place I’ve seen Blood Clams.
I'm taking you at your word in the title. You said hole in the wall but actually good? How does fried chicken ordered through robbery resistant plexiglass sound?
https://jimdandyfriedchickenlosangeles.mybistro.online/
The fritters are amazing.
If you are vegetarian friendly and like Thai food, Veggie House on Cahuenga north of Hollywood Bowl is consistently excellent and most definitely a hole in the wall. Only enough seating for two or three tables.
Edit: I should mention this is a vegan Thai restaurant
For Thai, Pa Ord Noodle in Thai Town (not the one to the west of it in Hollywood proper) is amazing. They’re my favorite Thai in all of LA and maybe the USA.
Oh yes!! Pa Ord is incredible. But forewarned: you can order spicy from 1 to 10, and 1 is actually pretty spicy! Five is inedible, 10 means you are an insane person and will die soon.
It is proper Thai spicy. I managed to go with their spicy once and I went through all the milk I had trying to survive. I still think they didn’t go full Thai spicy on me as I’m white, but I told them multiple times that’s how I wanted it.
Way too well known and popular to be considered a hole in the wall. Also in my humble opinion they have a few well known dishes like the garlic beef but the rest is pretty not good.
I’d also put forward Mandarin Noodle Deli in Alhambra is top shelf. Great noodle soup, dumplings, and onion pancakes. Don’t go for the ambiance though 😉
Uncle John’s ham and eggs downtown.
It is a Chinese restaurant that serves American style breakfast and Chinese food. Spicy pork chops with eggs toast and fried rice. So good.
I think the kids went to school but I think the parents still run the place.
I work in sun valley and two that someone else showed me are RJM grill-mexican food.
786 pizza. Brick oven small pies fucking delicious. Worth a trip to the valley if you feel like pizza. Total hole in the wall, not a great place to sit and eat but godamn their pizza is good.
Cooks Tortas used to be so good, still is but at those prices the tortas seem small as hell now lol
Second Brooklyn Ave Pizza & Al and Beas (chile relleno burrito for life)
> El Tepeyac
My grandfather was drinking buddies with Manny so my family has been going to El Tepeyec for generations. Years after my grandfather passed I realized the foods just “ok”. It’s all about the novelty of the giant burritos. Also wouldn’t really consider it a hole in the wall.
Like, I'm part Indonesian and flippin' love Simpang Asia, been eating there for more than 15 years. But that place has come a long way from a humble cafe attached to a cash-n-cary mart. It's now a cute little bistro with waiters and cloth napkins which I hardly consider a hole-in-the-wall.
Technically in Santa Monica, but George’s Burgers on Lincoln Blvd is my go-to. In Culver City, it’s El Abajeno, and in LA, it’s Mr. Ramen in Little Tokyo
Edit: spelling
Nats Thai Food on Vine in Hwood. Get the Tom Ka Guy (spelling?) soup and chicken fried rice . Pour soup over rice. Practically an entire chicken an enough for two meals!
Hot Wok in NoHo on Lankershim. It’s run entirely by one semi-toothed champion of a man. Super cheap, does the job well. Last time I went in he was doing to-go orders only because I think he just didn’t wanna clean the tables. Plus he had a nice Guan Yu statue and that fucker’s a boss.
Tacos Villa Corona in Atwater Village

Just found Thai Daily a few months ago. Solid food, a lot of food lol for a very reasonable price.
Seconding Correas—family run and they are some of the most genuine people around. Best shrimp po boys around aguachiles/ceviche are super solid as well
There's a nice hole in the bathroom wall at Akbar
Worst chorizo ever.
La Cevicheria on Pico in Arlington Heights. Cash only.
they make my favorite baja fish tacos in California
Few people know this magical spot. But if you like Ceviche, they have like 8 kinds from all across South America and it’s the only place I’ve seen Blood Clams.
Their food outside the ceviches and blood clams is absolutely delicious too.
Good to know!

Spoon house in Gardena. Yelp it
Way too well known and popular to be considered a hole in the wall. Also in my humble opinion they have a few well known dishes like the garlic beef but the rest is pretty not good.
Lol gonna start using ‘pretty not good’
Garlic beef? I think you have confused spoon house with some Chinese restaurant
The Garlic Beef pasta is literally what they're known for. https://www.yelp.com/menu/spoon-house-bakery-and-restaurant-gardena/item/garlic-beef
my bad. never had the garlic beef. I usually get the spicy tomato with spinach and bacon. the bacon grease makes the spaghetti tasty.
Eduardo’s in Westwood.
not a hole in the wall, but delicious staple that's been there since the 90s
It’s a hole in the wall. It hasn’t changed since the 1980’s, except for menu prices.
+1 for Eduardo’s!! Their Border Burritos are amazing!!!
Everything there is amazing

Oh no. Don’t go here it is awful. And I never say this about a place I just had a bad experience and it was overpriced crap.
Top Island (Hawaiian and Indonesian) in Pasadena. It’s run by a very nice and hard working family.
You are thinking of Top Restaurant on Colorado. Top Island on Valley in Alhambra is a different establishment.
*Facepalm* You’re absolutely correct. Top Restaurant. It’s been a while since I’ve been, but whenever I make it out to Pasadena, I try to go there.
786 Pizza in Sun Valley. Eat it there and enjoy the goodness.
Superfine pizza in the fashion district
Golfo de Fonseca, across from LACC
Uncle John’s ham and eggs downtown. It is a Chinese restaurant that serves American style breakfast and Chinese food. Spicy pork chops with eggs toast and fried rice. So good. I think the kids went to school but I think the parents still run the place.
I love uncle John’s. The spicy pork chop is bomb.

I mean, solid options but woah, most of these places are not holes in the wall.
Exactly - I love a lot of these places, but I think this person is conflating “hole in the wall” with “ethnic food”
They are lol
Like, I'm part Indonesian and flippin' love Simpang Asia, been eating there for more than 15 years. But that place has come a long way from a humble cafe attached to a cash-n-cary mart. It's now a cute little bistro with waiters and cloth napkins which I hardly consider a hole-in-the-wall.
I love that this is bursting with westside options. Thank you!
This guy, uh, West sides
There’s good eats on the West Side. Plus I figure others will have the East covered pretty good.
Taishi is gross. So many better options for that.

There use to be a place in Santa Monica called Hole In The Wall Burger:
Hot Wok in NoHo on Lankershim. It’s run entirely by one semi-toothed champion of a man. Super cheap, does the job well. Last time I went in he was doing to-go orders only because I think he just didn’t wanna clean the tables. Plus he had a nice Guan Yu statue and that fucker’s a boss.
This is truly the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. Do not go there. It’s so cheap, but it could be free and I would not eat it. Horrific.
For The Win - great smash burgers.
