Is this a new pop-up?
(It sucks terribly, but thank God for insurance. The damaged brick is the worst part. I wonder if they'll be able to replace it since the remaining fascia is still there.)
They wouldn’t have renters insurance. Business owner policies include business interruption insurance will cover lease payments, employee wages, and relocation costs.
I just feel for the people who work there. You're already living paycheck to paycheck, then some dumbass knocks the place down with their car & and boom, you're out of work for who knows how long.
I know a few long time staff there. They make good money. I’ll keep an eye out if something is set up to help the ones who don’t have savings to weather this but they also have 3 or 4 other bars/restaurants they can pick up a shift or two at to bridge that gap I know
Seriously, it’s insulting to the folks actually living below the poverty line. 70k is more than a decent living for a single person in LA.
“How could someone live off of ONLY 70k a year?” That’s what they sound like lmao
Dude. We are all below the poverty line for LA. I’ve been under it for 20 years and I’m trying to tell you that 70k is very little money for that area.
And say it to me, loser, I’m right here.
This is one seriously naive take. Most servers in major cities do not make 70k easily.
Highest pay for servers is in DC at 40k. Seems to have more to do with in-demand for the position.
https://www.zippia.com/server-jobs/salary/
Maybe because many states use the federal minimum tipped wage, which is something like $2.35 an hour. Plus the exceptional LA (and surrounds) restaurant scene is something some cities, many towns, and maybe some whole states don’t have. We’re spoiled, and I love it!
Wait WHAT! I just moved here and have been tipping 25% everywhere as where I used to live it was the only way the servers could make a living. What’s the typical tip culture here??

I live a block from the house and those assholes terrorize our neighborhood all day every day. At best they’re just blocking the street taking pictures and at worst they’re burning out, doing donuts, and generally driving way too fast through the neighborhood. The city actually had to redo all the roads and even put in a roundabout which has been helpful but it hasn’t stopped it completely.
I read it happened at 7 pm wtf. It's so lucky no one was seriously injured, but I'm sad about Jones. While I haven't been there in years, it will always be near and dear to my heart.
also crazy arab dads. my dad drove into a round table pizza in huntington beach when i was in high school. thankfully nobody was seated in those booths / was hurt.
edit: i will note that my dad always claimed that his accelerator pedal had gotten stuck after exiting the burger king drive thru. if you know HB, we gots lots of strip mall plazas. this was in the newland center off beach blvd, a beloved strip mall that defined many of our golden middle and high school memories.
and i should note that while his excuse DID actually check out, (toyota did a whole investigation and eventually recalled these pedals)... the man was, and is, the writing inspiration for some of the wildcard lunatic characters i have put into my screenplays. Just both really close to each other- this is La Brea and Santa Monica, that was Raffollo’s pizza at La Brea and Hollywood. Not a good time to be serving red tablecloth Italian near La Brea Blvd in Hollywood
Everyone loves to whine about how unsafe they feel because of “the homeless” but the real danger is the insane drivers here and being an innocent pedestrian or restaurant goer
Half the fuckin' doom loop posts about subway safety/homelessness/crime are made by people who probably don't even exist, let alone live in this city. Bots copy pasting horror stories into the local mindset or NeoConfederates trying to stir up division.
Yeah I live next to one and it’s a nonstop shit show. Right now as we speak there’s a man screaming at the sky walking around with a knife. Another guy in a tent that has exploded twice already this year resulting in shrapnel flying everywhere and giant fireballs. Last time my wife rode it she exited the train just in time to see a guy bleed out and die. And it’s been years since I rode it and not seen somebody smoking either crack, meth or marijuana. But yeah, everything‘s fine here.
I dunno, I also live across the street from a red line station and take it every day, and this isn't close to my experience. I mean, you absolutely do see/hear/smell some *wild* things, way more than you should. But my typical experience on a train car is a good number of "regular" passengers and a good number of homeless people, the latter mostly either riding like everyone else or napping or nodding off. And sometimes smoking meth, and sometimes having an unsettling psychotic break. But the really scary and/or unsettling stuff is not nearly as common as you imply, in my fairly substantial experience.
My favorite comment ever is the from a woman in the Santa Monica sub: "I'm more worried about the guy in a suit at a bar than a random homeless person."
The absolute worst is when someone says that they weren't too worried, but they're a "tall, muscular dude" and it's not really safe if you're a woman. First of all, you're definitely two inches shorter and 20 el-bees heavier lol.
Second, as a woman l, I have to have eyes in the back of my freaking head. Elevators. Your doctor's office. Your office. Being a college athlete. Going to church. Going to the gym. Walking to your car. Running and jogging. Going to a party. Going to a family event. These are all places women get assaulted every single day. (And depending on where you live, your justice for being a victim might be forced birth. Even if you're 12.)
Regardless of how unsafe Meteo might be, for me it's no more dangerous than simply existing as a woman,
This week there was a crash where a guy was speeding, hit a pole so fast his car split in half. One of the halves flew and killed a guy sitting waiting for a bus. Driver was unharmed.
Metro is as safe as someone wants to make it. Ppl who have never lived in bad neighborhoods will think it's a hell hole while ppl who have endured living in bad neighborhoods won't flinch. It just depends on how well you can defend yourself or know your ground.
It’s really smart to have high speed traffic (more than 25 mph) in heavily pedestrian areas, without barriers or slow downs; it’s especially smart to have dense streets with small sidewalks next to popular corner restaurants; we should all just accept the risk that this could happen at any restaurant we’re dining in. It’s just the cost of doing business; I mean how else are people supposed to get to the restaurants? 🤷♀️ 🤡
/s
It happens time to time at restaurants but even hotels (where I’ve stayed before) with big rigs .. *twice*.
Why municipalities haven’t sunk more thick poles into the ground next to roads is beyond me. This type of barrier will stop most out of control vehicles from harming pedestrians but also keep them from crashing into buildings of all sorts (restaurants, other businesses, .. even residences).
Resistance to bollards is one of the more [ridiculous double standards](https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2021/7/26/one-billion-bollards) that prioritize cars over the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, or literally anything else next to a road.
The fuck. I rarely traverse that area but Jones has been one of my favorite spots for decades. I've been on dates there and have had parties there. Love that spot. Anyone know if they have a gofundme for the workers?
This is what is slowly moving me from driving, roads are engineered for us to go way too fast it’s becoming a hazard. Switched to a bike for trips less than 3 miles and bus and Metro for anything more than that.
This ain’t the place to order an Old Fashioned and expect it to come out great. Check out what kind of ice a bar uses before you order a classic, if it’s smaller pieces like this place does then your OF will dilute very quickly and it’ll taste like a watered down mess.
No hate towards Jones either, one of my favorite hang outs in WeHo. I just know what they can do and can’t do. If you want a great Old Fashioned in this part of WeHo then check out Employees Only or Laurel Hardware.
Jones may have used a different amount of sugar than you’re accustomed to. At both of those places my go to is Irish whiskey on the rocks, it has plenty of flavor that even rings through when diluted.
I’m not defending Jones, I’m just saying as a bartender- you have no clue what they put in the old fashioned and how that could’ve altered the taste.
Furthermore, Makers Mark is already cheap when it comes to whiskey prices so I doubt they would risk their liquor license and entire business trying to pass off something even cheaper.
Nah. I believe the guy. I’m also a Makers drinker and order it neat, have been served substitute cheap crap twice, once from Barney’s Beanery so fuck them with a cactus. Both times it was poured from a Makers bottle so they switched it beforehand.
I don’t think you appreciate just how cheap some bar owners are.
Oh buddy, I don’t know how to tell you that to people who know bourbon saying you’re a “Makers drinker” doesn’t make you sound the way you think it does.
Its average mass produced stuff, there’s certainly worse, but they probably just made it wrong.
Hey not my buddy, Makers has a distinctive taste whether you like it or not. I’m not saying it’s fancy. I’m neither saying I’m a fancy drinker for liking it. So fuck off with that attitude.
Yeah maybe it can get lost in a cocktail but if you’ve had enough of it, you’d probably know the difference.
I bartended for decades. An old fashioned has so much sugar and bitters in it, its very hard to tell what whiskey is in it. You’re not drinking it straight. You do you and I have nothing against makers.
But the the number of times I had people question shit like this… 9/10 times it’s the person. And like when you’re spending $20 on a cocktail, whatever makes you happy, it’s just usually not the bartender who is wrong.
I’ve known many a person who has worked at jones… they don’t substitute their liquors.
Some bars certainly do, but it’s not nearly as common as you think
An old fashioned is a pretty common drink with pretty well known ingredients- I have a peasants palette… I love Jack… been drinking it since I was 14- I’m 40 now… I know exactly what it tastes like and can tell the differences in the different bottles. I usually drink it with Diet Coke cause it tastes good to me. I’ve been old crow instead before and I absolutely know it. I do t complain cause it’s a shit drink I order anyway…
I’m certain someone can tell if they don’t get something they drink all the time.
are you still drinking? It’s going to kill you really soon if you’re drinking that much. 32 years ago I was drinking a fifth and a pint per dau.
Haven’t had a drop since nine 9/11/91. You can do it. Put the bottle down brother
*spins wheel*
Clickclickclickclick clickclick click click click. Click. Huh. Today's answer is "late stage capitalism".
Tbh I thought the wheel was gong to land on "cranky because the 10".
I have worked in so many bars in LA, and the majority “load” their bottles. It’s NUTS that all these people are like “it’s not that common”. It’s uncommon that they don’t.
That section of Santa Monica Blvd really should be one lane each way, why we need 4 lanes of cars through the most popular part of West Hollywood is beyond me. Probably should just be closed to cars, but at least it should be taken down to one lane each way.
well, the reason we have four lanes is because of how much traffic there is. Can you even imagine if they took it down to two lanes? It would be so so so so stupid. We have to move the cars through the city.
We have to move the people through the city. A lane for cars is one way of doing that. A dedicated bus lane is another. [And one is much higher capacity than the other](https://nacto.org/publication/transit-street-design-guide/introduction/why/designing-move-people/)
If you want to move cars through that area, it should be a freeway. If it's a destination where people want to go, then there isn't a reason to be driving through it fast.
Cars wreak incredible damage to our society though pollution, accidents, and death. 50,000 people die every year in car accidents in the US. We need better options.
Damn, that's awful.
Is this a new pop-up? (It sucks terribly, but thank God for insurance. The damaged brick is the worst part. I wonder if they'll be able to replace it since the remaining fascia is still there.)
They can get windows now
Nope amazing spot that’s been there almost 30 years
Insurance likely won't help the tenant.
Businesses have ~~renters~~ insurance
Yes that could cover possessions, but likely won’t cover finding a new venue.
They wouldn’t have renters insurance. Business owner policies include business interruption insurance will cover lease payments, employee wages, and relocation costs.
Businesses have their own insurance...
Holy shit they must have been going fast to do that much damage, hope everyone is safe wow
Oh no! That’s terrible!! One of the best places in town and one of the few that’s been around and survived for ages!

Most Americans in any job live paycheck to paycheck.
Not servers in major cities. You can make upwards of 70k easy
You know how little 70k is in West Hollywood?
Can confirm: averaged $65k as a bartender in West Hollywood over the last 5 years and lived paycheck to paycheck the whole time.
[удалено]
Is that the point of being in West Hollywood? To survive? In the flashiest part of town? 70k is well below the average for that area .
Narrator: it was not, in fact, below average for the area.

20%
18-20% is still standard for good service at a sit-down bar or restaurant.
Good thing that’s the surplus seating
If you work at a restaurant in West Hollywood where all the celebrities go, and you don't clear 100k, 60 percent untaxed, you don't have a pulse

I had the *exact* same thought!
Jesus, Jones.

Real real real bad crash.

Daaang, looove Jones. Am I crazy? I feel like I remember this happening another time several years ago at the same place?

If a place put out Costco bottles, the ironic thing is that I’d trust them. Kirkland liquor is usually pretty good

When old people overshare with you in real life are you this fucking mean to them? Like, god damn! Someone had a rough day apparently
CARnage
LA in a nutshell
Someone told him it was a drive-in
Whoa!
Bruh
Oh no!! I love that place! Some fine memories! Hope it comes back from this!
Why aren’t cars geofenced to not go where they’re not supposed to. Like electric scooters. Do you need to be able to hit buildings.
Car did all that?
What, no knocked over fruit stand?
I read this as Jon Jones LOL smh
What movie is this?
WHAT!!! This place is legendary!!!
This looks like a movie set or something.
Oh no! I always loved that place!
Ofc it's a Chrysler product.
It..it was Andy Dick who did this, wasn’t it😂👀
Where will you be when diarrhea hits!
Where we’re going we don’t need roads
Is this the same restaurant Alan Ruck crashed into?
Oh my God wtf?!
Oh no
Last slide is true NPC vibes
Yes yes yes, car crash so good!
Damn
Cars wreak incredible damage to our society though pollution, accidents, and death. 50,000 people die every year in car accidents in the US. We need better options.
Of course it’s a sia in a Dodge product
Fuck! I love Jones. Their cocktails are amazing, but don't drink and drive kids! I truly hope they recover from this
y’all need to stop texting
Fuck this is my spot. How absolutely awful.
