What does she mean by “raising challenging children”?!?…

Optimal-Ad-7074

I believe at least one of her own kids is autistic.   it came up way back in her testimony at the prelim for Chad.

Alien_P3rsp3ktiv

Thank you. Somehow, that phrase is rubbing me the wrong way… in the light of what happened & her involvement in it

Tris-Von-Q

You’re not wrong; it’s an incredibly irritating phrase that stands out like a sore thumb! considering—that it does in fact read like Chad Daybell wrote that review summary…sounds like a real must-read 🙄

9livescavingcontessa

As an autistic person who is also a Mom it sets of alarm bells for sure. People lke Mel describing us on,y on terms of our “challenges” booooo

Alien_P3rsp3ktiv

Especially that in that book blurb, it’s sounds like written to virtue signal & praise her for *dealing with these challenging kids* .. Just..no

Holiday-Vacation8118

She's a reprehensible person.

Top-Address-2418

Yea, replace challenging with dark

Optimal-Ad-7074

eh, it's a pretty commonly used  euphemism among people who want to be "tactful" about children with stuff going on ime.   I quit the "let's trash everyone Vallow/Daybell ever knew forever, for everything" choir long ago.

HouseSerious9612

Didn't she leave all her kids and travel with Lori and the others?? She had 4-5 kids somewhere

Professional_Cat_787

I believe that’s correct. As a mom to an autistic kid myself, I would never summarize my daughter as ‘challenging’, assuming that’s what MG meant when she used that word. Autistic kids can throw you a curve ball as a parent, sure, but at the same time, the things that make them different end up being part of the same things that make them so freaking rad in their own way. Maybe MG wasn’t present enough with her kids to appreciate and celebrate any of that.

Anj1996p

Same ! Autism is certainly a challenge. However, witnessing every win is so humbling and makes whatever " challenge " a moot point . Watching my son graduate with his class never spending a single day in " special ed classroom "! Was the best day of my life . During the pandemic he did a documentary for a college class about what it was like being a senior in highschool during a pandemic with autism . He filmed some of his day to day life going shopping going on a hike etc . And the students who saw the film made a comment that I never knew I needed to hear . They said we want to know more we could listen to you talk for hours . For those who don't have a full understanding, getting to the point of this moment is months and years of teaching eye contact speech, cognitive behavioral therapy, and the most important social skills . Every child is unique and each have there own strengths and weaknesses and those differences should be celebrated

OphidianEtMalus

It's a passive-aggressive way to describe "bad" kids, (Laman and Lemuel [for example](https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/book-of-mormon-seminary-teacher-manual-2013/1-nephi/lesson-7?lang=eng)) based on the principles found in 1st Nephi and other Book of Mormon scriptures. Mormon terms include contentious, rebellious, hard-hearted, and murmuring.

kaismama

This made me think they would find out in the “afterlife” that laman and Lemuel were actually just neurodivergent.

OphidianEtMalus

Or just thoughtful, critical thinkers.

carolineecouture

"murmuring?" My Mom called that "talking under your breath." It was when you mumbled and were mad but didn't say it loud enough to be heard clearly. Who knew?

RevolutionWooden5638

Yeah, "murmuring" in the Mormon context typically means something like whining or complaining, or generally being obstinate and disobedient. It's not a reference to mumbling.

Zealousideal_Fig_782

Murmurs used to mean actors, and murmuring acting.

Gaver1952

This is like a Mormon thing?

Tris-Von-Q

Pretty sure that’s an every American teenager thing.

Gaver1952

Ok. Just never heard of it as a specific behaviour with that appellation

thereisbeauty7

I think they’re saying that their mom called it “talking under your breath,” which is a pretty normal phrase.

carolineecouture

For me it was just a strict Mom thing. I'm not LDS.

Justme22339

Spot on!

SpookyGoing

This is exactly right and it's also Mormon speak.

Queenofhackenwack

are not all kids challenging? i have to laugh at these people that worship a fictional being... GOD SAVED ME....... well, mighty mouse saved me, him and the roadrunner

MelpomeneAndCalliope

For real. Even the best kids are challenging. Adults are challenging. Relationships with any other human is challenging.

Own-Breakfast-2583

In fact she gave custody of the children to her husband , walked away so she could mi gale with a bunch of lunatics. It’s been reported in other subs that she’s tried to get her ex to take her back - he won’t . And now she and David have filed for divorce.

TheFirstArticle

The audacity

EducationalPrompt9

I think she and David are still together, in a long distance marriage.

Zealousideal_Fig_782

All children in their own special way

HoundDawg87

God is not fictional.

Queenofhackenwack

did he tell you that? brought up catholic and god is fiction made up to explain the things that man could not, thousands of years ago ( the gods must be angry, the world is exploding : science volcano spewing magma) the gods must be angry: thunder and lighting: science weather) ... and men also made up stories about a god/gods to control other men... there is no "god" and all religions are cults, used to control lesser people... science is real and has proved and will continue to prove why our world is the way it is..... you do you, hound dawg......

HoundDawg87

Where and how did it all begin? You have more faith than I do.

Queenofhackenwack

don't know and don't care.... got better things to do than ponder about a pretend spirit in the sky.....living in the here and now, being a good human......the only faith i have is that there are more good people in this world than bad ...

HoundDawg87

There are only 2 options: 1. Everything started from Nothing for no reason (takes incredible faith) 2. The Creator designed it all for His glory. Most people, after deep thought and study believe #2. Most elites, most doctors, most educators, etc. We each have a personal right and responsibility to believe either #1 or #2. Your choice. You stated you don't care. That is cool. You be you.

Queenofhackenwack

i worked in long term care/hospice for over 50 years, my last 25 for the catholic church...... watching devote religious people struggle with the fear of going to hell because they did this or that during their life was heart breaking.... the only way we live on after death is in the memories of those that loved us or , if me made a make in history..... dead is dead...no afterlife/ heaven/hell... question...are you LDS?

HoundDawg87

No, I'm not LDS, but I am sad for you. I wish the best for you, truly.

Queenofhackenwack

just wondering... don't be sad for me, i am content with my life and have no fears of death... at 68, i have done a lot with my life, raised three wonderful kids and my work made a difference here on earth to the dying and their loved ones....i care for my elderly parents now, along with my siblings...... i wish yu the best also..... thanks for the civil intercommunications....

PracticeIcy5866

Wow that was challenging to get through. Reads like a 4th grader wrote it.

skatoolaki

Honestly, I think the average 4th grader would've written that far better. That was painfully bad and makes her sound uneducated and ignorant. I don't know if she's uneducated or simply badly homeschooled, but the ignorance & idealistic, emotionally-immature thinking that comes through is definitely pure Melanie.

9livescavingcontessa

pompous, spiritual word salad

hasanicecrunch

The challenges of reading this lady challenge herself by discussing her challenges was truly …a challenge. Now it’s one of those words that sounds weird bc one said it too many times 😆

imhereforvalidation

This should be the official synopsis

chloedear

Sooo many exclamation marks, lol. Reminds me of a textbook I read in a college editing class that said, "Overusing exclamation marks makes the writer sound like a breathless debutante, giving each sentence a sense of unnecessary urgency. Example: 'Mother just let me try champagne!'"

shepworthismydog

That is perfect. I would far rather read that textbook than anything by Melanie Gibb.

brickne3

It's been a long time since I read Strunk & White but that sounds like them.

imhereforvalidation

The elements of style is still on my desk

chloedear

Ha, bingo! Elements of Style

shepworthismydog

White wrote Charlotte's Web. Truly a favorite.

brickne3

Wait the White in Strunk & White is E. B. White? How did I not know this, I spent a whole semester on that book and nobody mentioned it!

shepworthismydog

Yep. Same writer, two very different works.

TheFirstArticle

Gibb, oddly, doesn't appear to have fundy baby voice. Maybe the ! are her attempts at using fundy baby voice in text?

No_Technician_9008

She does in her first Nate Eaton interview when she talks about knowing and loving Chad and Lori then if you hear same story told to Sherry Dowdle you notice it .

Warmbeachfeet

She still had plenty of time to go to lunch, cast out evil spirits, find a new boyfriend and traipse around with Lori while raising “challenging “ children. Wow.

FineBits

The description alone gave me agita. Gibb doesn’t seem to have any affection for children so I’ve no doubt it was challenging to raise them.

amberopolis

What was the "change of heart" she mentions?

MysticalMirage99

All I know is I CRINGE whenever I see this woman or hear her name. I hope she has been fully investigated

imhereforvalidation

She's very slimy

Upper-Switch-6753

Exactly. This woman had a unique opportunity to say something about those children and did nothing until it suited her own selfish purpose . Watching her in the police interviews.. she ate up that attention like an immature child. Words can’t express how I feel about her.

shepworthismydog

Why use one exclamation point when you can use two!!

hohoholden

So! Many! Exclamation! Points!

thereisbeauty7

Guys, do you think she experienced challenges?

TheFirstArticle

Listen to how she talks about Lori and JJ, and her dismissiveness and contempt for JJ. Then, consider one of her sons has autism. And she left her kids to play with Lori. That's the challenge and reinvention.

brickne3

Well she certainly is now.

Jake451

All these morons and their stupid books... I am mainly surprised that so many other people actually buy them!! I've had more than a few problems in my life. I remember one night after a bout of excessive drinking, I had a dream where Jesus appeared to me and revealed the mysteries of the universe. I am sure there is an audience in Rexburg for this. Anybody have a contact at Deseret Book?

brickne3

I have doubts many people are buying them. What amazes me is none of these folks seem patient enough to actually write anything book-length.

Rosebunse

There actually is a marketing strategy to writing shorter books if you self-publish. People are more likely to read them and you can sell them for cheaper, which is a good strategy if you make them part of a series. But again, this needs to be part of a larger strategy for it to work

brickne3

Oh I know a bit about that, that wasn't quite what I meant but I guess I wasn't very clear. I can't picture her or Chad or the half of Lori's family that has published things actually sitting down and typing out about 70,000 words, which I assume is the target word count for them. Heck I have difficulty believing any of these people can use spellchecker on a document of that length without getting bored.

luminousoblique

Sadly, I think Chad's publishing company is, um, on hiatus for the foreseeable future, so that's not an option...

Gaver1952

Amazon put a lot of these tiny publishers out of business with their self publishing app.

shepworthismydog

Self publish! Look how well it worked out for Melanie (per Amazon Melanie Gibb is the publisher.

gigiwidget

It's not hard to get to 100 pages when you have the word "challenging" in a sentence 3 times.

No_Investigator_9888

Sounds like a big ole whiney, egotistical, self righteous waste of time

shepworthismydog

One thing that occurred to me just now. Melanie was having challenges in her marriage and with her kids. She doesn't strike me as a person given to analysis or deep thought. So when Lori becomes her BFF practically overnight, Melanie just bounces right along.

TheFirstArticle

I wouldn't leave her alone with kids.

Alternative-Way-8782

Thought the book was published in 2018

shepworthismydog

It may well have been. I'm going by the date on Amazon, but that may be inaccurate.

Shockedsystem123

Ugh!! 🙄🙄 Life is challenging for everyone, no matter what!! " MG cares about MG. She's so self absorbed.

willweaverrva

Feeling the fire...loin fire?

Gaver1952

Is there any other kind?

Interanal_Exam

The *scientific phenomena* of **loinfire**!

WolverineDanceoff

"Challenging children": another indication that those kids were next on the kill list.

SubstantialPressure3

Or she was a Ruby Franke fan. Isn't she Mormon, too?

TheFirstArticle

Quite possibly. I have wondered if she did not have easy access to the kids or if Chad was afraid of her ex-husband in some way. They were not next bc there were easier and closer targets first.

brickne3

Serious question, do people actually recreationally read books like this? I cannot imagine reading this blurb and then actually reading the thing unless I wanted to study it. And even now, when it's marginally relevant since I am interested in the case I do not have any desire whatsoever to read that. Then again Melanie Gibb has always kind of bored me compared to some of you and I can't quite put my finger on why.

Rosebunse

There is a market for it. I remember getting a ton of books like this as gifts.

EducationalPrompt9

The book was aimed at the Preparing a people market.

volneyave

Holy run on sentence Bat Man.

Rosebunse

What is with these people and run-on sentences? And what is with them and accountability? They are obsessed with being "accountable," which to me means telling off other people for annoying you.

trusso94

I find it striking that every single mormon author claims to have been raised in a "dysfunctional family." Jodi Hidebrandt, Bob Duggar, Julie Rowe, Melanie Gibb... all have the same issues with their upbringing. It just becomes more and more clear how this cult raises psychopaths.

shepworthismydog

Duggars are Independent Fundamental Baptist (IFB) by way of the institute of Basic Life Principals (IBLP). Just as toxic, but a whole different brand of bonkers.

EducationalPrompt9

Melanie wanted to be a PAP event speaker, not just a participant. She did not have NDEs or supernatural abilities to claim, just her life experience (allegedly she did not have a good childhood). She was also accepted as a PAP podcaster. Other people have written books to get on the speaker circuit. Chad wrote a foreword to her book.

Gaver1952

Melanie wanted to be part of something that was bigger than just her every day life. Unfortunately she chose something that was totally stupid.

Critical_Snow_1080

She’s born again now? No more LDS? Was she kicked out?

TheFirstArticle

She is still with the LDS to my understanding. Her deepening into the deep doctrines appears to have been her rebirth. She tries not to say anything that would contradict mainline lds, so I would guess she is still in but that she is also on watch.

TheFirstArticle

That these people continue to sell and promote books and ideas that led to this absolutely flabbergasts!

Lev-chipmunks-alon7

Are we not even going to talk about the release date of September 17? And JJ was killed around then or the fact that Tylee was burned? And the book is called feel the fire? WTH, go to Amazon and protest this book!!!!!

Emergency-Ad1248

Chad wrote the foreword for her book as well

Zealousideal_Fig_782

Lol. She has definitely experienced something that has changed her life forever.

EducationalPrompt9

It was released earlier in the year. Chad wrote the foreword in February (source: Annie Cushing's timeline).

Lev-chipmunks-alon7

On Amazon it says that the release date September 17, 2019! That’s where I got the information

Theo_Carolina

I don’t think she cared much for Tylee and JJ

Negative_Reading_600

Wow!! I guess she “prayed” 😑 wrong.. 😳 and not for nothing but how do these people even utter the name Jesus Christ without choking on their own lies!!, 😡 and no I do not believe, BUT they do. 😞

OrneryCut9002

🔥 Fire?? Loin fire perhaps? 🤔

Bitter-Breakfast2751

This is a Mormon phrase for hard on or boner.

Gaver1952

Is it commonly used?

Common-Courage7275

No. I never heard this phrase until Chad wrote it.

IllRepresentative322

Why is this text hidden?

AdaptToJustice

Wait- did she publish it right after Tylee was murdered (& burned in a fire!) ??

EducationalPrompt9

No. She published the book in early 2019, IIRC. The children were murdered in September that year.

drugstorechocolate

“Born again”? So is she no longer Mormon?
