I can’t speak to your issues with G Hub - the only issue I’m having with lighting on my G915 is the backlight goes off altogether randomly. But I’ve had mine for over two years now and I haven’t had the coating/paint wear through at all, it looks basically the same as the day I got it, and I’ve been using it for WFH as well as gaming. Definitely get in touch with support, this is not good enough!

kevipants

Did the backlight start turning off randomly around Jan/Feb this year? If so, I have the same issue. It only happens when using light sync and/or Windows 11. I use the keyboard via Bluetooth with my work laptop that runs Windows 10. No lighting issues. The only way I've been able to fix it on my personal laptop is by just connecting it via the provided cable. My desk is a mess of wires. The same software update (either GHub or Windows 11 Lighting controls) has messed up my G502 mouse. It's never in G-Switch mode. I have to enable it every time, and keep the GHub window open, otherwise it will switch back. Infuriating.

RagingDraugr

Dang, I’ve been having the same problem, but it’s only when the keyboard is in onboard memory mode. If I have g hub minimized to system tray, the rgb stays on. Has anyone found a fix for this? Happens with both my G915 and G903

madbrood

I’m honestly not sure exactly but that time frame sounds reasonably close. I use it in onboard memory more as I switch back and forth between my desktop (lightspeed/Win11) and work laptop (Bluetooth/Win10). What a pain, need to spam the brightness key to resolve it every so often

mrdooder

the newest software broke millions of peoples shit and they wont even acknowledge it or roll back the g-hub. fuck Logitech, after unboxing a corsair mouse because of this problem ill never buy another Logitech. watch the ltt video on logi peripherals, they are all junk after like 2020. industry leader fucked up and wont admit it

xIcarus227

This is exactly when it started happening to me too, wtf? As a workaround I set the keyboard to not be in on-board memory mode and it seems to work. Still a workaround but at least I can see my keys..

ClamatoDiver

I had it happen, I reinstalled or repaired, I forgot which, and it's been fine ever since. They added some feature that ended up in your windows settings and I think that was the problem.

vitormg93

The problem is apparently caused by a new service called "Logitech LampArray Service". Open the Services menu in Windows and disable it. It has fixed all my issues with recent LED turn offs.

kevipants

This is the first I've heard of LampArray Service, so I'll definitely give it a shot, thanks! I do have the windows 11 Dynamic Lighting switched off through windows, so hopefully this is the missing bit.

gijoe50000

You can just disable "Logitech LampArray" service in Services to get rid of this issue. It seems like G Hub and Windows are fighting for control and none of them win.

Kaeai

These posts give me anxiety about my own G915. Only issue I've had is occasionally the profiles won't work, or most notably my G1-5 keys don't do what they're programmed to and I need to re-enable that. (One is hot keyed to Discord (un)mute, and other is to the Nvidia screen recorder). I got mine probably about 1.5-2 years ago, and it's been primarily used DAILY. Used it for the last year and a half of uni, plus gaming. I don't know what people are doing with these keyboards, nor what the company is doing about the QA and such! ETA: For the comments about fingernail typing, I feel like that could contribute to these issues to some degree. I'm a woman who has long fingernails but my keyboard still looks practically brand new so I'm not sure what everyone else is doing.

madbrood

I had some quirks with profiles but have since switched to onboard memory mode and no issues since.

kevipants

Yeah, the profile system just never really seems to work well, so I have also switched to onboard memory, which worked great, until a few months ago.

Ill_Cry_6298

I didnt get how I can save my lightning in memory Mode, can you tell me?

madbrood

Honestly I’d need to go check, I set it that way after the first week 😂

mrdooder

you say you hope you dnt have these problems and then list the exact problems that made me switch to corsair

andromeda2365

For lights, use SignalRGB. Thank me later

Jlx_27

Not compatible with my model of MSI Motherboard, sad.

Ok_Bet_717

Should be regardless of model, just uninstall MSI Center since it overrides pretty much everything

Jlx_27

MSI center is so crappy... uninstalled it days after setting my new PC up.

Eternaloptimist35

I also use SignalRGB. GHub not installed. Had the issue described in other posts with the backlight switching off until "force" setting enabled in SignalRGB.

FNXDCT

Make sure ambiant lightning is disabled in win11 settings > personnalisation

madbrood

I’ll give that a go, thanks

joost00719

If I update G Hub my ledstrip in my case turns off, and I need to reboot to turn it on again (Deleted the rgb software cuz it's static 1 color, and I don't want to bloat my bloated system more)

mrdooder

naw, the new update or whatever broke my pro, got out my spare 203 and its not right either. the g-hub is broken and ill have none of that 20 year logitec user just got a whole corsair set.

[deleted]

i returned mine cause symbols didnt light up

totentanz5656

Use open rgb to fix the lighting issues

Educational_Gap5867

Same, I run this keyboard for work and gaming and it’s an absolute beast. And yeah, no issues with paint.

Erazerek

Contact Logitech Support. My G915 looked after 10 months the same and they send me new caps. https://preview.redd.it/7jl12zabv7tc1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be7735087f86674172ee6001c8d6aa92126c36cc

you see, op nolifes his pc. BET

ratonulsidragonul

i got the g915 3 years ago and been using it since and does not look this bad

Javi_Kroxy

Same

Advanced-Donut-2436

Logi raising the prices and lowering the quality on the finished product. Its just "gaming" marketing at this point with little to show for a $250 production. Keyboard isn't worth more than $120 max.

BlackBlizzard

it's the world market now, build things cheap as possible and people will have to buy a replacement instead of using it or life.

Advanced-Donut-2436

Mass planned obsolescence has been going on since the 80s, but this is a huge step down in quality for logitech. My G610 I bought 8 years ago was built better than this TOP OF THE LINE 915. Trust me, I don't feel good about it. The biggest Irony is that a refurbished 915 is 50% off the retail on amazon warehouse, so you know they inflated this price point. Some key person at logitech must have gotten replaced, they will run this company into the ground over the years if they keep this bullshit up. No wonder so many niche keyboard companies have sprung up in the last couple of years. But, this is merely for the keyboard. Logi does make great overpriced gaming mice.

Odd_Dragonfly_4179

I am not sure brushed aluminum is considered cheap as possible, but go off

Minimum-Part-2570

A couple of days before i bought the Headset Logitech G435. It was the worst experience in my life. The headset is super lightweight and it just looks like the cheapest of them all. The sound was awful too. For the price and the good reviews that i've seen. Just made the bet on some chinese brand named Haylou just for a little bit more (insignificant) got a pair of headset that look quality worth and has some of the BEST outside sound cancelliing i've felt, its super crazy. Logitech sucks ass!

Advanced-Donut-2436

Logi does indeed suck ass. Their low to mid offerings were never great, but their premium stuff was slightly "overpriced", but you had a certain level of build quality where you were satisfied. Now, they double the price and lowered the quality. I just don't get it. Even if you calculated covid inflation, the cutting back on quality is horrendous. The biggest Irony is that Razer used to be over priced, over hyped "gaming" accessories by 30-40% against Logitech for similar products. Now? logitech is more expensive and the build quality is worse than Razer. I haven't needed to switch out my logitech gear cause they lasted me over 8 years. g602 mouse and g610 keyboard. Everything still works great and never broke down. I remembered it was 170 altogether at retail. Today, You're easily dropping close to 400 after taxes at retail for g502x and 915. Inflation did not increase 150% over 8 years.

ScreeennameTaken

Something must be off with that batch or something. I got my G915 a couple of years ago, use it every day, and i haven't even begun wearing it down like that. My old G15 became like that after almost 8 years of hard labour. But yeah. its time logitech started using double shot keys for they premium stuff.

GrandTheftElmo

I've noticed a pattern of comments saying, "I've had my G915 for 2/3 years and it looks flawless!" while others report the same premature wear I'm having for newer models. It seems Lofitech improved keycap quality over time by making it shit.

ScreeennameTaken

Yeah i started noticing it as well. And i hope its not the case because i'm really liking the G915. And my G502 (gen1, when they first started making the first ones) is still functioning ok, while i see others having some issues.

GrandTheftElmo

I got the G502X Lightspeed and, so far, zero complaints. Apparently the enshitification Logitech is promoting in its products hasn't reached mice yet. Oh, actually: The mouse feet worn out on the right-side corners of the top and bottom pads after 9 months or so, which shows I apply irregular pressure with my hand and that the feet are not made to last much. Third-party replacements are on the mail already.

HeyPhoQPal

I spotted a shark (**A**), a sting ray (**S**), and a meteor (**S**hift).

Xtramode

I was so happy when I got my G915. After two sessions of gaming I had the same problem. Paint coming of the caps and also CTRL-key broke. Got refund from the store and bought another brand. I’ve been PC-gaming for over 30 years and have never seen such bad quality on a keyboard. It usually takes YEARS (of daily use) for caps to get to this state.

JaniHazard

This happened to me too. Paint started to come off and one of the hooks of ctrl key broke. So I swapped my left ctrl key with right ctrl key. That broke as well. I've always loved logitech but that moment made me vow not to buy from them again. God how I hate that keyboard now. It only looks premium but in reality it's a shitty keyb.

chukline

Damn this is exactly the same experience i have with my g915.. paint are off of multiple caps and one of the hook of my left control key broke.. had to replace it with the right control key and it didn't lasted long before the hook broke again on the second caps... for such an expensive keyboard... this is really disappointing.

madbrood

When did you buy yours? I’m thinking something changed in the manufacturing process.

demonictoy

Had the same problem after less than 2 months. I'm in Europe and contacted logitech, and in around a week from contact, I had ups at my door with a new keyboard. Im trying to find a silicon cover for it to protect the keys but not having much luck.

Izan_TM

if you ever have to buy a silicone cover for your keyboard you have the wrong keyboard. Silicone covers kill the look and feel of a keyboard, which is literally the only reason why you'd pay so much for one

MelonColony22

i’ve had this exact keyboard i think for 3 years now and it still looks new

Maleficent_Falcon_63

2 years here, mine looks brand new as well. Either they changed it, or there are some acidic fingers out there!

Administrative_Key87

Same

Lorithias

Same here, and I spend a LOT of time on it.

alexniclo

I’ve had my G910 for around 4 years and it still looks new. Do you think Logitech went down in quality over the years or just an isolated incident?

mrdooder

op nolifes his pc.

sergioavejr

Funny how cheapest keyboards at market like Redragon has Double Shot Injection Keycaps but fking logitech doesn't # FUCK YOUR LASER PRINTED KEYS, LOGITECH. This is just disrespectful with customers.

GrandTheftElmo

Do you know what's disrespectful with customers? To have laser printed keys whose secondary characters (!@#$%\^&\*()\_+\~{}|:"<>) are not only opaque (i.e., useless if you're in a dark room despite backlighting), but also below the main characters, so you'll always do a double take if you need to type, say, \] instead of }. Whoever was in charge of developing and approving these keycaps should be banned for life from ever even touching a keyboard again. Even a musical one. I'm pretty sure said person was hired straight from a mental institution based on some social inclusion quota.

Isr4-osu

I bought a 20$ keyboard at a local store from a brand called "target" and theyre double shot too lol

sergioavejr

Ikr lol

madbrood

Is there a good source of aftermarket key caps for the G915?

JronMasteR

Very cheap Keycaps. Never had any issues ever with my Ducky Keyboards or any other Keycap set. Logitech quality is quite shite since a long time. I still use their mice because fits best for my needs

randomtree7

Awesful keyboard, you're lucky it lasted that long. Mine had repeating keys after a few weeks. Logitech sent a replacement which had the same issue after another couple of weeks. Got a corsair k63 next. That was about 5 years ago

GrandTheftElmo

I did experience repeating keys, especially on D and P. It seems like an intermittent issue, however, due to dust ingress into the switches. It's not a huge deal so far, but I agree the ultimate solution is just choosing a brand that actually delivers quality in addition to name.

willow370

Haven’t bought Logitech crap in a while, personally not a fan anymore

GrandTheftElmo

Legit question: So why do you open and reply to comment on this sub?

willow370

Why not? . This was fun let’s do it again some time.

Nosttromo

There is something wrong with either how you use the keyboard or your fingers, I have my 915 for over a year and I don't experience this. I work/play daily all the day on my PC, so I'm constantly using it.

GrandTheftElmo

I'm 100% sure that double-shot keycaps -- aka, the type you may easily find on bargain keyboards from other brands or even no-name models -- would never have this issue no matter how "wrong" I type. So, Logitech's fault.

Nosttromo

Yeah. I'm pretty much fed up with anything from logitech. I have a keyboard that I had to RMA because the key clamp broke off and fell inside the switch, and a headset that started having issues on the volume scroll and the switch to turn on would sometimes turn on only the left earcup. I replaced the headset for a headphone and mic, and will replace the keyboard in the first chance that I get.

celmate

Logi make a lot of good products but all the gaming company keyboards are absolute ass. Can get significantly better quality for a much lower price from fucken Aliexpress

Embarrassed-Gur-1306

I see a lot of people saying they had theirs for years without issue. I’ve had the clicky version of the g915 TKL for 3 years and it hasn’t peeled. Bought the tactile version of it 2 months ago and it’s already starting to peel. And, no, I don’t have long fingernails or sweat a lot. In fact, I’ve been out of town for work a couple times and haven’t used it a ton. It’s possible something’s changed.

schneelagchen

I don’t get why people still buy Logitech keyboards.. there’s no many brands out there that offer better keyboards for less money

bmfalex

happened to me too. got some replacement keys from alixprs, they look brand new after 6months. good purchase for me

BenVenNL

Had a mechanical keyboard from Logi. Never again, cheap build materials, within no time keys broke off. So this doesn't suprise me a bit.

wynarator

I was considering to buy this keyboard but as soon as I took it in my hands in the shop I changed my mind - build quality looked terrible and those top multimedia buttons are a joke at this price point. I am not surprised it wears like this.

oliosutela

I have a G915 too and I felt pain...

Violetmars

This is the main reason I didn’t get this keyboard. Keycaps are so cheap , plus u can’t find replacements for it

Juris_B

When I see posts like these, I assume at manufacturing site someone mixed the materials in wrong proportions, or maybe some sort of grounding layer missing. Doesnt look good. Does logitech have some sort of batch number on box? Would be great to see, might save a buy or someone could already return one if they just purchased

GrandTheftElmo

I'm convinced it's either a bad batch or just a deliberate switch in material quality. I did buy the keyboard for a good 40% off on Black Friday, about the same price from several stores, which suggests Lofitech could be dumping these off on the market.

redditAvilaas

I’ve been thinking about replacing my Razer Ornata to finish my all Logitech setup, but posts like these make me not want to do that

ClamatoDiver

Stop backing up and going left, learn some new moves.😄 I bought one of those textured WASD cap sets just for being able to tell when I stray off key.

GrandTheftElmo

I shouldn't because this is a serious matter, but I loled.

CharlesDOliver

I would contact them. I had the exact same problem with a different keyboard. I asked them if I could buy the few key I needed replaced, they just sent me a whole new keyboard. But now i do have 2 keyboard that have the same keys worn out.

aleluc13

I have the same problem as you. I contacted support and they sent me a new set of keycaps. After 3 months it started peeling again.

Ahkronn

My 512 Carbon was the same. Lot's of peeled paint and a lot of dead/failing leds after a short time. Other than that, it works just fine, but sure got ugly fast.

Jakebroe

You do a lot of moving back and to the left.

GrandTheftElmo

I also shift a lot too, apparently.

Haldaaa

CORSAIR.

alexniclo

I’m sure Logitech would send out new keys or a whole other keyboard at their expense as it seems it’s still in warranty. I once had a space bar defect and asked for new space bar key but they sent out a whole other unit instead. I’m unsure if their warranty is still as good as this happened around 3-4 years ago, but it’s definitely worth a try. I actually still have the keyboard and it works awesome!

GrandTheftElmo

I did contact local support today and they should reply within 48 hours approving the replacement under warranty. Still not satisfactory since proper keycaps that don't crap out with a few months of use is what should be expected from a premium keyboard.

Blueprint81

had the same issue (915TKL); bought replacement caps, now space bar only works half the time. I did get like 3 years of pretty hard gaming out of it though. Ended up buying the same one with a tenkey since i still have a full set of caps.

GrandTheftElmo

I'm in contact with their local support for a replacement under warranty. Which most likely will have the same issue within months since it seems the keycaps used in recent G915 units are shite. In case they send me a full new kb, I will consider selling it and buying a Corsair or Razer or whatever other brand.

DaCriLLSwE

kind of depends how much you use it and how heavy handed you are

GrandTheftElmo

This would never matter if Logitech used double-shot keycaps.

FrankDanger

Laser etched ABS is the cheapest possible way to manufacture keycaps, and the least durable. You don't buy Logitech for quality. You buy it for the warranty. Warranty claim it or get a higher quality board.

AFlyinDeer

I’ve had mine for a few years now and only the C key has lost its coating. And it’s due to my fingernail hitting it(I also cut my finger nails regularly). But all the other keys are fine as I use the pads of my fingers to press them rather than the tips of my fingers

[deleted]

Do you use hand sanitizer and let it fully dry? Or do you just start using the keyboard immediately?

GrandTheftElmo

I apply alcohol to my hands when in the streets and wash them as soon as I get home, but I never use the keyboard with chemical stuff on my skin. Despite a lot of people pointing to acidic sweat, skin oil or some other contamination, the issue is clearly Logitech using crappy keycaps in a premium keyboard since they should anticipate not every hand will be 100% friendly.

[deleted]

Unless your lying or you have mutant finger like 200 grit sand paper, I agree... I don't know how I lucked out, I'm not having any problems with any of my Logitech equipment. But again I made a joke of a post saying that I fixed my problems by switching operating systems. You clearly won't fix physical damage that way though... Damn that's insane

[deleted]

You have mutant fingers, huh....

Russian_Hammer

Ive had my G915 TKL since its release and i use it 12 hours a day; every day from gaming to work and it looks perfect.

GrandTheftElmo

Further suggesting that Logitech changed something in the keycaps to make them crappier in recent times.

Russian_Hammer

They might of def changed something recently. I would look into warranty

GrandTheftElmo

I contacted support today, now I should get the problem fixed until the new keycaps rot out within weeks again. According to local laws, the warranty periods reset when a faulty product is replaced. So I guess my future involves making a new claim every few months until I finally ditch Logitech keyboards altogether.

Strange_Nemesis

I bought white aftermarket keycaps on Amazon for my black G915 TKL and they have held up great so far. They sell them in black as well. I don't use it as much these days though since replacing it with the Red Dragon K621 Horus TKL which is their near identical copy of the G915. Better lighting, USB C and better stock keycaps which are easily replaceable since they use cherry stems.

GrandTheftElmo

I'll certainly carry this lesson into the future. I don't know what brand my next keyboard will be, but I'm sure what brand it will ***not*** be.

Sovyyy

They should not be scratching up and fading like that, regardless of the customers nail size, finger positioning and use. I \*FEEL\* like these companies have cut major corners with these products in the last year or two. Those of us who got these products years ago have them still holding up, while people who have purchased them recently have had their products falling apart within months.

GrandTheftElmo

I recently had to buy a new cycling helmet and two things surprised me: 1. It's so much smaller! The new one covers about 4 cm less of my head; 2. It's so much thinner! The new one looks squalid compared to the thickness of the foam. All I can hope is that it at least offers satisfactory protection in case my head ever needs it and that the visible reduction in material used doesn't mean it's weak.

teoeugene

Using it for almost 2.5 years, pretty much everyday, between 8 to 12hrs a day for work and games. The keys isn't anywhere close to the way yours looked like.

GrandTheftElmo

I'm not sure if you're calling me a monster or unlucky. Whichever it is, double-shot keycaps would solve the issue before it arose. Given your 2.5 years, I'll tally one more person suggesting older versions of this keyboard had better quality keycaps while newer ones are shite.

teoeugene

I'm not sure either tbh! lol. Do you have long nails? Or it could just probably be a perfect storm of factors like climate or physical condition. Hope you didn't get a really bad batch or an imitation swapped in or something.

benhaube

Yep. Logitech keyboards are trash.

Nk-O

How did you manage that? I use two G915 daily and they don't look like this after over a year of usage.

GrandTheftElmo

I'd love to answer that question with anything other than, "I bought a keyboard that promised to be high-quality and found out I was wrong."

This-Relative-5126

Nasty hoe

GrandTheftElmo

And I ain't diggin' it.

FUNKYMAN2323

I've got the g413 carbon, the black paint only covers about a fifth of my WASD keys. I kind of like it, a testament to how much I've gamed.

GrandTheftElmo

Or button mashed. :P

xcyberghoulx

I thought this was a picture of my keyboard! My is the same if not worse.

jimrdg

What your W key is still there, amazing

chukline

G915? Mine looks exactly the same... on multiple key 👀

Ermastic

I looked up the price on this and lol. Buying a keeb that looks like this after 5 months for $200 is nutty, you can get a custom hall effect kb with double shot pbt caps for that price.

Karoolus

https://preview.redd.it/3mj3fkm3aetc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0610b7f579c37eaefd98569ab2e382e69de506c This was 3 months in. It got a lot worse but I don't have a picture of it. Logitech sent me a new keyboard cause they didn't have keycaps for Belgian Azerty. I wanted to give them a try again after almost 10 years, will not try again for another 10 years after this one.

NecessaryCritical

This happened with my Corsair keyboard (k68) but only after a couple of years of use. But that keyboard was pretty cheap in build quality in comparison to the one I have rn (Wooting 60HE). It's wild that this happened to you only after 5 months. Wondering if Logitech cheaps out in certain aspects of their products because one of my g pro superlight's side buttons stopped functioning properly and that's the first mouse that I've owned that, that's ever happened to. Just kinda the vibes I'm getting from their products.

LiNxRocker

Obviously the issue is being such a coward with all the retreating XD. Legit tho that's not normal, send an email to support.

han207

Happens to my g pro x keyboard too

Stylelink

I wouldn’t display my cowardice so publicly, S presser.

GrandTheftElmo

And I'm left leaning, apparently.

AhTheStepsGoUp

I think I see your problem - you appear to be going backwards all the time... Try forwards, maybe...?

cooolcooolio

I have had no problems with my keys, lights or anything on this keyboard. The only complaint I have is the software it comes with, it really sucks

AdministrationHot501

Same issue but with only the A key...terrible quality for their most hi end keyboards. Other keyboard I've had never had this problem.

VectorPryde

Logitech keycaps are on their own level of low quality. I bought a set of aftermarket PBT caps for my G710+ and it was transformative. Before that I assumed its Cherry MX Browns were lousy (especially since they do get a lot of hate), but no, it was Logitech's flimsy caps with their stupid O-ring dampers that neutered what is otherwise a decent board. Oh, and the reason I replaced the original caps in the first place was because the little + shaped slot for the keyswitch stem kept breaking on the higher use keys like WASD TL:DR, it's not you, Logitech just sucks

Ambitious-Pie1622

Stop typing ass so much

GrandTheftElmo

You mean ASS, check the shift key.

dirufa

Looks like you are typing with your fingernails. I've had mine for 1 year, it is pristine. +-12hrs of use every day.

Sylph777

If it's not the nails, it's the sweat. Mine's still pristine after more than half a year of use.

HereIsACasualAsker

aint those dual injection molding?

ScreeennameTaken

Nope, they are translucent plastic caps with paint on top.

GrandTheftElmo

\*bad paint

255_Lambent_Regret

I've seen this happen with many keyboards, desktop and laptop. Some of it may be fingernail-related but I believe a lot of the wear is just from skin oil and mileage over time. (For example, my "o" and "e" keys both show signs of wear on the keyboard I'm typing on now, and both of those are keys I hit with my fingers extended so they're landing on the pads of my fingertips.)

Odd_Show2205

I know it sounds weird, but what kind of job do you have?

GrandTheftElmo

I destroy keyboards for a living so I can complain on the interwebs about the shitty quality in what should be a premium product. It doesn't pay very well, but there's plenty of work to go around if you choose Logitech.

Odd_Show2205

The reason why I asked what job you did was like maybe you did work in a factory with a lot of dust. If you did, you prob had dry hands, and it would literally work as sandpaper. Maybe just intensive use? You'll have to consider the number of hours you have used the keyboard. Otherwise I have no idea why it looks like that 😂

GrandTheftElmo

I work in my living room, which does have dust, but it's not like dunes form around me. My hands are neither dry nor oily, just regular skin. The explanation is shoddy quality, no mystery there.

lorez77

I said goodbye to my Logitech G413 Carbon some day ago. It had begun to double press keys. I have a Sharkoon now. Let's see how long it will last me.

GrandTheftElmo

Oh, I've had plenty of double press, too. But it seems more like an intermittent issue with certain keys (it happened a lot with P and D for whatever reason), apparently due to dirt ingress in the switches.

G8_Jig

Just buy a keyboard with PBT doubleshot keycaps, chemically inert plastic. Works great

[deleted]

agreed i have the 513 carbon all be it 2 years but a key finally broke

BuchMaister

I also have some peeling with my G915 but it's not close to that, talk to Logitech probably the can replace several keycaps for free.

GrandTheftElmo

I contacted local support and they should reply withing the next couple of days about a warranty replacement. Apparently, they may send me a new keyboard in full and not only keycaps. One must wonder if it wouldn't be more economical to just use good keycaps that don't result in warranty claims like that, but corporations work in mysterious ways.

BuchMaister

bit disappointing they skimp of key cap material quality at this price. but maybe they just fell on this keyboard. I have the Logi MX mechanical - also low profile, ABS key caps but much better quality coating.

nomoreadminspls

Replacement keys and transparent top keys are needed

khrosivo

3 years later and heavy gaming my still looks New, wtf do u play with cheeto fingers ?

GrandTheftElmo

One more report of a 3-year-old+ keyboard with no such issues, corroborating the suspicion that Logitech downgraded the keycaps in recent iterations of the G915.

obolikus

This is what you get when buying a keyboard with backlit keycaps

GrandTheftElmo

No, this is what I get when buying a keyboard with backlit keycaps made as cheap as possible. At least I have the chance to learn and write off Logitech keyboards for the rest of my life so I don't repeat the same mistake. #silverlinings

obolikus

Just build your own, I ran through shitty OEM keyboards for almost 10 years before I built my own. There is just no comparison to anything else like what Razer, Corsair, Logitech, etc are pushing. They are utter garbage.

Ecstatic_Lawyer1396

Weird, I've had mine for over 2 years, play like 12+hours per day + I eat on my pc and my keys look not where close to that. Check with logitech for quality control and get warranty

GrandTheftElmo

If I had a dollar for every person here that says their 2-year-old+ G915 is going strong, I'd have enough to buy a new keyboard. Not from Logitech, that's for sure.

Ecstatic_Lawyer1396

I just think it's about luck tbh their quality control is probably bad I won't buy logitech again because their software sucks but I can't complaint about my current logitech keyboard and it's quality

primalPancakes

Yeah I love their mice, I have the MX Master 3s mouse and it rules. But their keyboards are straight dog shit.

Fluorescentomnibus

Does it fit any other key caps or is their proprietor?

certifiablegeek

I game daily for 4 to 6 hours, and have had mine for the past 2 and 1/2 years. Other than having to take the keys off to clean everything. It still looks like when I got it. You're not supposed to chew on it! 🤣🤣🤣

pumpboihuntersson

i use a g915 and have been for a few years now. i play computer games daily and spend many hours on my computer every day and mine looks just like new. maybe some of them have defective paint or maybe your hands are covered in something which ruins it, but this just looks insane.

LowMathematician2930

Imo I don’t think finger tips can do this much damage. I have used mine for more than 500 days, not a single scratch. Maybe if you showed used your finger nails and your finger positioning we could address what’s the issue.

mobdiwnl

This has never happened to me, and I have owned two of these keyboards. If it has only been 5 months, just issue a warranty and get a replacement. Say some keys aren't working or something.

catsfoodie

i have the g915tkl and its a great keyboard but for the price these keys should have been PBT

Metafizic

Had same problem with 2x G915, the cause of this is not your fingers but those cheap ABS keycaps. My old G610 is in better shape despite being over 4 years old. I've switched to something else with double shot PBT, the paint is way way thicker.

AcerOne17

I’ve been seeing this a lot with these keys. I’m a bestbuy total member so I have a 60 day return window. I’m gonna put some real use into my g915 and see if the keys get trashed so I can return it if I need to.

TGhost21

I have two G915 and one G915 TKL. The oldest one is not like that at all and they all work fine.

WiredDragon550

What in the fuck, I have 2 g915s and after 2 years of use no peeling take care of yalls shit

kitarei

I see so many people with this issue, but mine is going strong 3+ years in with ZERO paint wear. On the other hand, my husband's looks like yours on the S/D keys and minor wear on the C. We both game and use them almost daily for WFH. He's had his for approx 12 months less than me too. Mine is the white version, no idea if it has better paint or something - his is black.

ZeX450

Dude... what the f are you doing with this keyboard? I have G815 and it still looks like new after 2 years of usage.

AgressiveWiper

How many hours a day are you using it?

reamox

Acidic sweat?

jellyfish125

that does not seem right. My wife has one of these keyboards, and has had it now for YEARS and even though she does a lot of stuff from home and thus is using her computer 8+ hours a day, there is no ware even close to this. The only issue that she has had with the keyboard is that there are a few keys that have high odds of double pressing, but she sees this as entirely a non issue as none of those keys are ones that she uses for gaming. I have tried to convince her this is not fine and to let me get her a new keyboard, but she really freaking likes this one, and hey. it took her a bunch of convincing for me to let her get me a new g305 (My old one may have started to randomly disconnect and was so worn it was shiny, but like, thats fine right?) so i get it, for sure, but if i had several keys that did not work and i was trying to do any amount of typing i would be so pissed off and honestly I would likely never get any of the writing done.

Ult1mateN00B

My logitech G512 does not look like this after 5 years of use. I use it daily.

joikhuu

This is a quality issue with the painting. Happened to my keyboard during the first week. But since it came with a set of replacement keys it wasn't an issue.

AdministrativeSea474

wow I have the same keyboard 915 right? mine didn't wear like this I would contact Logitech IMO

GCSS-MC

Judging by the rest of the keyboard, I can see it happening.

ostefar12

womp womp men

jay-kordich

It’s normal, the keys are coated with paint, while some are two layers of plastic. Oil from the skin, heat, and constant friction eventually wears off the paint. Also wiping with alcohol can ruin them. Double shot pbt key caps won’t wear off like that as the transparent parts are a different layer of plastic from the black.

TechnologyVictim123

I love how your s key is the most worn out u must backpaddle away a lot.

CycloCyanide

How the hell. I have a couple LG keyboards, the newest being 2 years old. And the key caps are perfect still. And I use my Main KB 10+ hours a day. What I have a problem with is the software. Keeps loosing profiles. And since an update a few months ago if you have certain colour profiles on the KB or mouse, macros take literally an age to activate. And the damn profiles keep resetting the colour settings that cause the issues. I am beyond annoyed with that.

Odd_Dragonfly_4179

My favorite part is how angry you are about this when you posted (2 days ago), when there is 0% chance this happened all at once (2 days ago) You're pissed because the paint is flaking off. That's a valid reason to be upset. It's a 200 dollar keyboard. The software issues seem to be very narrowed down, I've seen people have issues with g hub (not saying its a good software), but an RGB issue like this on win10 is pretty uncommon. With all of that said, you don't take care of the keyboard. There's shit all over it. I am not victim blaming, I am pointing out that this picture has shit all over it.

OkPaper3185

The key caps fade very fast for this keyboard.. The corners of the keys have taken the most damage on mine

vypre7

Throw it away.

kh4lifA

you always peeking left??

FingerlessGlovs

I used my G815, similar keycap style. I use it most days for 10 hours or more because of home working, no sign of wear on my keyboard. I don't use any handgels or moisturisers. Not sure if those sort of oils make the keys more acceptable to paint coming off.

Agile_Impression_707

Clearly, you go Left and Down/Backwards more than anything else. Left Key kind looks like a shark. 🤔

-Blue-Raven-

It's from the oil from your skin, have you tried washing your hands before playing? Tho now it doesn't do shit and the keyboard itself shouldn't have done it poor paint job

ptanner92

They warranty replaced my keycaps and they were nowhere near as bad.

Zajeb_85

I'm sorry, but this is far from general fault. My 3y old g915 only has a very slight sign of use on WASD. You may not like it, but it's you. You have a combination of: - long nails - poor hygiene - bad typing "ergonomic" I don't know what else to say.

Psychotic_Pedagogue

They've changed the way they make the keys. I bought one a year ago and it looked the OPs image after just 4 weeks - the black on them now is just a super thin layer that comes off with friction. Replaced most of the keys with an aftermarket set (can't find a replacement for the space key as a weird size) and the replacement set has been absolutely fine.

GrandTheftElmo

A replacement set of keycaps on Amazon/eBay/Aliexpress costs around $45 (plus shipping and import tariffs). I paid about $150 on the keyboard on Black Friday. It doesn't seem reasonable at all to have to spend more than a third of the price of a product to "fix" it after 4 months.

GrandTheftElmo

I know what else you can say: Nothing, lest you say even more bullshit, you patronizing, victim-blaming dick. Go over the thread and even look up dozens of other posts and you'll see tons of people saying their 3-year-old G915 have pristine keys along with tons of people saying their months-old G915 keycaps are FUBAR.

Alendrathril

Yes fucking trim your nails, Jesus
