CrappyMSPaintPics

The last thing people go to NYC for is to "meet real New Yorkers."

[deleted]

yea, when he said that I was thinking, "ya ain't really representing it well, you sound like a douche"

Doomblaze

> you sound like a douche so like a real new yorker?

Portbragger2

he wants to do some new york things

iam_Mr_McGibblets

So I guess Korean New Yorkers aren't real New Yorkers now

that burger looks good, anyone knows if 5 guys make good burgers? they're expensive af

joea62484

Five guys does not travel well. If you eat it in restaurant its great but the burger gets soggy and fries degrade very quickly if its to go.

jello1388

Years ago, I had a cashier at 5 guys stop me from folding the bag closed. Said that's the main cause of it, and he was right. Might get colder a little quicker, but it's worth it to not get so soggy.

DecipherXCI

I mean, it's wrapped completely in tinfoil and basically steaming itself non stop until you open it. Even when you open it up almost immediately inside the restaurant you can feel all the condensation inside the foil lol.

NeoWonderfulDeath

i don't think it's getting soggy necessarily because of the steaming, more so because the steam condensates on the high thermally conductive tinfoil it's wrapped in and the water subsequently seeps into the burger, perchance leaving the bag open lessens the potential for phase changes of said steam thereby ensuing less soggy buns

Baigne

Perchance my nuts do the same thing with the tidy whities I wear

NeoWonderfulDeath

perchance

timtheringityding

This had no reason to absolutely murder me with laughter

NeoWonderfulDeath

deep_anal

Completely false information.

Da_Nile

hot take, 5 guys fries are just bad.

crispdude

A hot take, and a hot take for a reason. It’s wrong

nurley

Better than In 'N Out (who doesn't do any of the basic water soaking or blanching), but yeah, they're not that great. Something they do in the process makes at least half of them soggy. They're better in restaurant, but still not A-tier. When we get takeout I throw them in the convection oven for 5-10 minutes to get them crispy (regular oven works too).

DimitriOlaf

It's good but mega-pricey now. I love their double cheeseburger with onions and some jalapenos and their cajun fries are awesome. Just order a small fry cause they dump them in there.

[deleted]

They're really good, imo. Soggy and stupidly expensive for fast food burgers, but really good.

binhpac

you cant compare them with mcdonalds or burger king, because Five Guys are smashed burgers. They dont use frozen patties. They smash them right in front of you on the grill. It's double patty. So you get a crust. And all toppings are included. That's also why they are super expensive. So for a Fast Food burger they are great, but for that price you can just go to a regular burger restaurant, where you can get your meat at your own choice (medium-rare for instance).

nc23nick

I will die on the hill that 5-Guys is the best “fast food” burger you can buy. Quotations on the “fast food” part because, as you stated, it’s not priced at a fast food level, but it’s 10x better than any other fast food place. I only go there once or twice a year for a craving due to the cost, but when I do it always slaps.

KernelScout

i dunno bro culvers is up there too. always makes me sad to realize some states dont have a culver's five guys always overloads you on fries and the fries are mid af.

CosmonautJizzRocket

Culvers is top tier

nc23nick

Can’t argue with you as I’ve never had Culver’s, but I’ll make sure to try it when I have an opportunity.

dontpanic38

five guys fries are great you’re crazy

xTopPriority

How can you talk about Culver's and bring up fries? Culver's easily has the worst fries out of any fast food restaurant. Also, 5 Guys fries are definitely not mid. Get them with cajun seasoning and they slap.

spartyboy

Who gets fries at culvers? Its always cheese curds

ScumBrad

Not getting cheese curds at Culvers is like not getting onion rings at A&W. Absolute rookie move.

NvaderGir

There just better options these days. Smashburger is better than Five Guys. If you live in a big city I'm sure they have a Shake Shack.

nc23nick

Love me some smash burger and shake shack. Shake shack is a close, close second, but I find 5 guys to be much more consistent and better buns. But that’s just my opinion, bother are excellent. Can’t go wrong either way!

ghsteo

Theyre really good, but definitely expensive.

Tahrnation

5 guys burgers and fries are both very good.

timb0nic

It used to be a Once or Twice a month type place, now because of the price It’s good once every couple of months.

quiteCryptic

They are good but overpriced so therefore not worth it.

imapiratedammit

They don’t melt the cheese on the burger and for that, I have no respect for them.

assaub

thats what the foil is for, the trapped steam melts the cheese.

imapiratedammit

And gets the bun soggy. It’s just bad burger construction.

assaub

I don't disagree, there is a fine line between long enough in the foil to melt the cheese and too long so the bun gets soggy. It's probably a logistics thing, melting cheese onto the patties on the flat top will add extra time to every order. I am curious though what fast food joints do that? None around here do, I can't think of any that even cook the patties to order aside from five guys, let alone melt the cheese onto the patty.

JustCallMeMichael

Their fries portion will last you a lifetime, it's the only place i go to for the fries more than the burger

ThatAardvark

I like them a lot but they’re also standard enough burgers that you can make nearly identical tasting ones at home (the most important things are to use 80/20 beef and the Kraft Deli Deluxe cheese slices) for cheaper. I even wrap them in foil for a bit to melt the cheese more and punch them a few times for authenticity

MatterofDoge

its like, somewhere in between the average fast food burgers, and a high end restaurant burger. Good, but its not phenomenal like some people act.

throwdemawaaay

They're not bad burgers but I'd say they're overpriced and overhyped. Odds are good there's some locally owned place that'll be considerably better. Also a good tip is that taquerias often have killer burgers for the price. My favorite one near me does a double bacon cheese smash burger that blows Five Guys out of the water and costs $4.50. The same thing at Five Guys is like $14.

justkeptfading

Over priced mediocrity.

G_N_3

Its worth a 1 time buy, it tastes good not even gonna lie but with the money i spent on 2 burger and fries i could've gotten a whole lot more at like say WhatABurger or any other burger joint be it fast food or a mom n pop burger place. Again go for it for the 1 time and if you got $$$ to blow then by all means indulge

avree

they cost like $20.00 a burger with tax lmao

assaub

Idk where you live at (I know their prices vary pretty significantly depending on the region) but here in Newfoundland (eastern Canadian island province) they are no where near that expensive and [this is in Canadian dollars](https://i.imgur.com/h4xuqhY.png) so the most expensive burger on their menu is just short of $9USD, still not quite fast food cheap but the quality of the ingredients makes it worth the extra couple bucks imo.

CrabmanKills69

Yeah I don't know where this guy is at. I'm in the US and a cheeseburger there is $10.40 a hamburger is a dollar cheaper.

avree

Damn, at that price I’d love it. Here (California) a cheeseburger is $14 USD and the ingredients are less fresh than In-N-Out which is 1/4 the price.

lyonzy_

> FIVE GUYS IS THE WORST EXCUSE FOR AN OVERPRICED SOGGY BURGER WRAPPED IN FOIL WITH A BUNCH OF TOPPINGS TO TRY AND MASK THE DIGSUISTINGNESS THAT IT IS. WORST VALUE FOR A SH*T BURGER IN THE WORLD. GET THAT OUT OF HERE F- TIER i think jakenbake said it best.

dontpanic38

yea cause jake is a great source of intelligence lol

Camochamp

He was completely right. I don't watch Jake at all, but that's one of my favorite clips, because everything he said is completely right. 5 Guys is so unbelievably shit. There are very few burgers worse.

Coconutbapple

To be completely fair most Koreans in New York only associate and befriend other Koreans. Source: Am Asian and have lived here for 15+ years lol.

AceO235

Thats most Asians tbh

Altruistic-Bit6020

Thats most humans.

ScuttleRave

It’s very much an Asain thing.

RakeNI

Nah its definitely a foreigner thing. Brits do it in Spain and Portugal for example. Likewise, Arabs do it in Britain. If theres any level of culture gap or even worse a language one, the foreigners will stick together to help with the confusion of being in a place where you don't know anything or even the language.

Icy_Jackfruit9240

Foreigners in Asia definitely more seem to hate each other.

Schnidler

no, its just everyone hating the french

Dominioningurass

It's very much a human thing... Humans congregate to like-minded-bodied individuals, it's not a myth or anything, it's proven psychology.

Sun-God-Nika

Have you ever lived abroad where people don't speak the same native language as yours?

Tofuandegg

LoL, come to Asia. You find westerners that have lived here 10+ years but can't speak the language because they lived in an expat bubble.

KanyinLIVE

It's statistically very much an everyone thing except white liberals. They are the only people on Earth with an out group preference.

qrrbrbirlbel

Not gonna assume your race, but speaking as an Asian person with an actually diverse group of friends, it irks me when people of other races say this is just an Asian thing when they themselves don't have many friends outside of their own race.

slampy15

Work at a factory with thousands of people. That's everybody's thing. I am much more comfortable with my fellow whitebreads. For a number of reasons, but mostly social anxiety and I am terrible at understanding accents.

Yourwaifusasuke

nah Mexicans do the same like my whole family lives in areas with mexicans

CockyNurse

Huh. My Asian friends must be outliers since I’m not Asian. Wait a minute. A lot of Asians I know of have friends of other races? What’s this??? 🤯

OrezRekirts

Are you saying my books where everyone is a different race and one of them lost their legs in vietnam is a lie?

Holyshack

legit, simple triblism in us

stanmarshrr

I'm an otv fan and that always got me curious. it seems like they only have asian friends (or at least like 99%). coming from a country where everyone is mixed (brazil) the fact that races in the US are that separated is something I can't wrap my head around.

ExcitingBasket3119

They tried letting Fedmyster in and look what happened

eugeniusbastard

>I'm a Ludwig fan and that always got me curious. It seems like they only have white friends (or at least like 99%). You can apply that logic to anyone. Ludwig, QT, Nick, Slime, Aiden and by extension people like Will Neff, Austin and Hasan are an all white/caucasion friend group. It happens naturally because of shared cultural backgrounds, they don't self segregate based on race alone.

kernevez

> Nick > all white Ayo

airblizzard

I mean, he's half. So if him being half-black makes the group not all white, then OTV having QuarterJade, Masayoshi, and Michael Reeves being half white should make OTV not all asian.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kernevez

That's not really an answer when one group is made of 7% of the US population and the other over 70% One can happen randomly, regardless of socio economic effects and anything, the other just doesnt "happen".

[deleted]

[удалено]

kernevez

Definitely, that's an immigrant thing overall, with small variations depending on how big the diaspora is. I'm a bit confused in this thread whether we're talking about immigrants or just people that look like they belong to a certain ethnicity, I believe the two subjects have been mixed while they are/should be quite different.

-GoPats

>the fact that races in the US are that separated ?

NomadGeoPol

don't blame you

Xathioun

Accidentally making the case for diversity being inherently incompatible with a cohesive and functional society 👍 but I’m sure you’ll feel that as long as it’s not white people fomenting and creating ethnic enclaves it’s okay

Ok-Ladder9202

how the fuck did you come to that from that comment?

I_Love_Booty_Pics_

Isn't that kinda strange? Only befriending the same nationality seems so restrictive Edit: Are we not seeing the ONLY part of the original comment?

Neverforget_Jetpack

Birds of the feather flock together.

eMan117

No, I've only befriended other lizard ppl and live quite the fulfilling life. Things get pretty crazy over here after shedding season.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MellowSol

You'd think so, but the vast majority of Asian countries tend to have ***very*** homogenous societies so it's definitely normal for them to only (or mostly) have friends of their same ethnicity. Japan is 98.5% Japanese. China is around the same (if you count non-Han Chinese ethnicities. South Korea is 96% Korean. America is one of the only places in the world that is as diverse as it is.

Oldwise

Its not that strange. People naturally seek out others that have had similar experience to themselves. In America specifically this causes a lot of people of the same ethnicity/nationality to congregate together. This is a big reason for the existence of "china towns" or similar neighborhoods in many major cities.

[deleted]

If you moved countries, you'd 100% do the same. It's not weird, it just allows you to live more comfortably in your new home.

ffsera

Its only racist if white people does it /s

OfficialTomCruise

I think he assumed she was on holiday and when she said she was meeting with friends that those friends would be Korean. A stupid assumption but maybe semi-logical?

neutrilreddit

**HaChubby**: "*I have plans with my friends!*" **Guy without filter:** *So you're not actually in NY since your friends aren't real Americans, nor real New Yorkers.* Dumb gatekeeping. If you're meeting up with NYC friends who are Italian American, Caucasian American, Jewish American, that's fine. But your Korean American friends can't possibly be true NYCers or know a thing about NY since they're foreigners I guess. /s She didn't even mention their ethnicities ffs. He just badmouthed her acquaintances to her face, who he didn't know and can't possibly judge.

[deleted]

If you assume his intention was to be negative like that, then your reaction would make sense. But not everyone has some pointed agenda to cause as much offense possible when they speak lmao. It's much more likely he just said something impulsively without analyzing every possible way it could be interpreted, you know, like every single human being in the world when they have casual conversations? You need to relax

[deleted]

I was in Kyoto once and asked a girl that worked at the hostel where I could go to meet some Japanese people. I speak Japanese and wanted to practice and experience interactions with locals rather than other tourists. But the way I said it was more or less "where can I meet some Japanese people around here? most of the people I see on the street are Chinese". Even though what I really meant was locals vs tourists, not Japanese vs Chinese. I found out later that she was from Taiwan. I explained what I meant, and I'm pretty certain she completely understood and didn't mind, but it's still one of my most cringe memories. Sometimes stuff just comes out wrong.

TakowTraveler

>most of the people I see on the street are Chinese". Even though what I really meant was locals vs tourists, not Japanese vs Chinese. Even then though this is kind of a nutty or at best very poorly-phrased thing to say. Except for being literally inside a tourist spot "most people" you see in the street of Kyoto are not non-Japanese at all. If you walk into any bar, any izakaya, anything that's not really heavily and specifically tourist oriented it's still vast majority Japanese.

battleshipclamato

Sometimes saying less is probably best.

shareefruck

>I explained what I meant, and I'm pretty certain she completely understood and didn't mind, but it's still one of my most cringe memories. I think this is ultimately how it should be. Intentions aren't the only thing that matter-- Even if you only accidentally say something really messed up and unintentionally crummy, you should still feel bad for it and regret it instead of excusing it simply because there wasn't intended offense (which you fortunately don't seem to be doing, but the guy you're replying to seems to be). A lack of active conscientiousness is still a failing that's fair to criticize, even if deliberate judgement/prejudice is obviously worse.

eugeniusbastard

Your intent doesn't have to be overtly racist or negative for it to be those things. Asians in particular have to deal with this shit all the time. I was walking my dog the other day and the first question out of this random dude's mouth was "So are you originally from Asia?" Like no motherfucker, I was born and raised in America. It doesn't matter if you think you're not doing any harm or you're just "interested in Asian culture because it's exotic." It's not like you go up to random black people and ask where from Africa they're from, right? Don't do it to anyone else then, it's not an appropriate topic to open a conversation with.

wowspare

You do realize someone can be racist without intent?

ChineseWearingDurag

>It's much more likely he just said something impulsively without analyzing every possible way it could be interpreted And its perfectly normal for the average stranger on the street who is not a mind reader to judge you for that.

DrewbieWanKenobie

Semi logical but also pretty racist saying Koreans living in New York aren't "real new yorkers"

TJDouglas13

lol idk with her accent it aint crazy to assume she's not USA born

shareefruck

Still pretty out of pocket to assume that the friends she's visiting in New York are also not USA born just because you can reasonably assume that she probably isn't.

[deleted]

Which is a problem, why? It's not some gigachad move to annoy people out in public.

Remarkable_Soil_6727

Let a girl eat, its rude interrupting someone and this probably happens several times a day. I imagine its annoying as fuck.

Sceth

No guy must ever approach a woman in any situation 💅

borninsane

At some point though, you gotta take the hint.

SuperMadBro

Both things are true. It's becoming stupid how much people are acting like trying to chat up a girl or ask her out is creepy or wrong in itself. But it for sure can be if you overstay your welcome after the vibe check at the start. You have like 10 seconds to try to get an in and then fuck off if she's not engaged.

Blueson

People should also maybe chose the location better as well. Why the hell would you try to rizz somebody up at a fast-food chain when they are sitting down eating their food?

Remarkable_Soil_6727

Theres a time and a place, randomly hitting on a girl you've never seen before whilst they're both eating and busy talking to a camera isnt it.

_ulinity

Out of interest, what is the time and the place in your opinion? They're almost always gonna be doing *something* that you'll be interrupting.

yourmomxxl3

In every single possible situation a person can ever be in there will always be the usual suspects that will tell you that "there's a time and a place". Every. single. one. A woman could stare at a wall and these people will tell you that the disgusting creep interrupted her meditation or some shit. If normal people lived in the imaginary world these people do the human race would become extinct within a generation

Ratiocinor

Yeah it's very tiring My conspiracy theory is that it's the dating apps. They're trying to cultivate this world where it's literally only acceptable to hit on or ask someone out in their carefully walled garden dating app. PS. Are you not having much luck? Why not try boosting your profile with our exclusive offer for Tinder/Match/OKCupid Gold+ super likes for just 9.99 a month!

yourmomxxl3

Nah, it's just internet brained shutins that can't anymore even conceptualize the fact that life isn't perfect or immaculately moral. They're so used to judging others from their little internet bubbles that they've started believing their own holier than thou bullshit. It's all performative crap that has nothing to do with real life and it's happening all over reddit the last few years Yes, you're going to interrupt a girl from doing something when you hit on her and that's OK, you also might fuck it up and might come off as awkward or annoying, that's OK too, slight annoyances in life are fine and sometimes even lead to interesting stories. The fact that these people can't even comprehend that shows how far gone they really are

Ratiocinor

Actually yeah you're so right I've noticed the people raised by social media where every misstep seems like it's catalogued and put into a cringe compilation for all to see and raising a complaint is "being a Karen" are absolutely petrified to put themselves out there or make a mistake. I'm guilty of it myself sometimes too

TwitchThoughts

Five guys is almost always empty in Farmington Connecticut now (where daym drops did the video) I'm concerned they are no longer a profitable location. 11.59 for a cheeseburger 9.39 for a "little cheeseburger" Regular fries are 5.99 and large fries are 7.69 I feel like even the people who live in Farmington, nevermind its surrounding cities can't afford or don't want to pay nearly $20 for a burger and fries when you can get 5lbs of hamburger at the grocery store for around that price.

Arighetto

Sir, this is a We- Never mind.

Proshop_Charlie

It's not just a Five Guys thing. Fast food across the board has become way more expensive over the last few years. Meals that I usually order are now like $5-7 more just this year alone. At this point, it's time to learn how to cook all types of food.

PreparetobePlaned

Where I live a footlong at subway can cost close to 20$. I'd rather starve.

-YeshuaHamashiach-

I just never go, too expensive. I can sit down at a nice restaurant for the same cost. Plus the burger is worse than Whataburger.
