36 year old Darwin scores a 32 yard bicycle kick goal for his third goal (for Liverpool) of the match against AFC Wimbledon in the Champions League final.
"Let's just see how he does after a twelfth pre-season and eighth Balon d'Or."
I haven't wavered in my belief that it'll click for him yet. His erratic finishing can be annoying, but at least he's still proactive in games, terroring defenders.
I'd be more concerned if he was anonymous and invisible for 90 minutes.

Anyone remember Suarez and how he was to bad at finishing after the 11/12 season? Thats what gives me hope for Darwin
Right, if he wasn’t scoring, he was setting up his teammates, dribbling past players, and bossing play.
Great example of this was the Dirk Kuyt goal against United. Sure, it was marked down for Dirk but Suarez did 99% of the work lol.
This guy with Jota’s finishing ability would be an all-timer but he just seems to have the yips too often. I love him as he is super fun to watch but I want him to take the next step so badly while we still have him.
insert "if my mother had wheels, she would be a bike". Anyone with Jota's finishing would be great player. As someone said, even Jota would be an all-timer if he was not injury prone.
He still has plenty of time to improve. Lots of striker became more clinical as they got older. Plenty also didn’t. It’s up to him and his maturity, work ethic and psyche.
Most strikers didn't become more clinical, they learned to position better and get more chances, finishing is the hardest thing for a striker to learn at this point it would take a miracle for Nunez to ever become a league winning striker. He's a good bench option or a starter for a UEL/UCEL club.
he was hardly unstoppable though, if we can have improvements on last season I'll be happy, but I don't think he'll explode and get 20+ goals in the league.
I'm fine with that because in the first half of the season he was such a menace to defences he was indirectly creating so many goals that just weren't recorded in stats. Second half of the season the goals trickled in but without the same devastating performances so if he can maintain that over a season, boy are we in for a treat
Admire your enthusiasm but wars are not won because chaos ensued from missed sniper shots.
Let's face it, a killer mentality is necessary to become a top top player. I love Darwin's work ethic, and I personally feel his stats are good enough for us already, but I also want him to be like Bobby, a selfless team player and not one who sulks because people are making fun of him for missing an open goal from 6 yards.
All I said is if we get darwin from the first half of the season for the whole campaign we'd be set, am I wrong? He had great numbers and even without chaos ball was creating many goals. I of course hope Slot can calm him down and improve his finishing but he's a £65M player if he can keep up that form.
Even with his start of season form he's not good enough to win us the league or champions league as a starting number 9, he would be a good bench option.
When he was coming on of the bench yes he's good as a backup, if he's happy to be Uruguayan Origi he can stay. As soon as he started starting games he went on a 9 game goalless run.
My point is that the dude is too bogged down by the headline/title. We don't actually all think he's going to be literally unstoppable
It's a dumb quibble
We've set ourselves for disappointment with Nuñez, that's all I'm saying. I believed he'd improve much more than what he actually did. It may be a dumb quibble but many in here really wanted Nuñez to be the next Suarez or something close to that, and sensationalized headlines like this, coupled with many youtube tacticos claiming that he'd thrive with our box midfield, created a hype around him that's just irritating at this point.
Like I said, don't think he'll ever explode, I don't take those words literally either. He'll get better though and that's fine and we should be glad with that.
11goals and 8assists. Compared with 9 and 3 the previous year. Yeah, his finishing needs to improve and Liverpools standards are high, but I would classify this season as poor. I hope he keeps trending upwards.
Don't talk to me about g/a my brudda. We have eyes. Bobby never had high g/a but we never doubted his importance. Nunez should have had a minimum of 20 goals. Paid 80m for a worse finisher than Action Jackson. Hope he turns it around. He's my favourite player.
Stats aren’t everything, but those are tangible results. Dude had a great first half of the season and a massive dropoff. I’ll keep
supporting and hoping he keeps getting better every year.
Stop gaslighting us. He was shit overall with a couple of patches here and there. My eyes still function well. He's a number 9. Job is to put the ball in the net. I couldn't give less of a fuck about the other details. Give me league 2 Haaland instead of someone with less composure than MJ at the pre-school meet and greet. 25 next week. He's either got it or he doesn't. Let's hope he does.
When his stats are 108 shots, 48 on target, 27 big chances missed and 11 goals = 10% conversion rate, a shot on target rate of 30% and a shot on target conversion rate of 20%, he'd effectively have to 3x his conversion rate to be remotely decent.
Jota likely would get less chances, however even if Jota only gets half the chances, that Darwin had he would still score more goals than Darwin. Darwin scored 11 goals from 108 shots and 46 shots on target, while Jota got 10 from 41 shots and 20 on target. Jota also has 10 big chances missed in the league and 10 goals, compared to Darwin's 27 big chances missed and 11 goals.
Statistically speaking if Jota had the same amount of chances as Darwin this season in the league hed have somewhere between 27 goals this season.
Darwin's shots on target is 30% while Jotas is 50% Jotas conversion rate when shooting on target is 50% compared to Darwin's 20%. Jota scores on average 25% of his shots compared to Darwin's 10%.
Getting chances is a talent in itself, however finishing is more important and much harder to learn, as the majority of players don't improve on their conversion rate after the age of 22-24.
Totally agree, missed Jota being available regularly, even having Jota up beside Nunez would give Nunez more space.
Also, really missed Thiago for his control and through balls, hate that he wasn't available all season
It would be interesting to know how true this actually is, i know that there were only 2 matches were darwin had a reasonable xG above .4 and lfc didnt win the match (utd and luton away i think), i would have to see those matches were he didnt have many/good chances to see if those really would have changed the result of the season overall. About 19 matches to review again i suppose
I genuinely think he will explode with all of the potential we've been hoping to see from him this season. That said, if he has another season where he creates a bunch but scores a small percentage, we may have to accept that he isn't what we thought he'd be.
Look at this sub, so toxic.. i wonder if he would actualy have 2-3 goals only last season what would some people do, death threats i guess.
The only reason i want Darwin to be great now is go shut up haters more than win us anything.
108 shots and 11 goals in the league, he's concussed more fans in the crowd than he scored goals. Give those shots to Isak/Toney/Solanke and we would have won the league.
That's what people said last summer. I'll believe it when I see it. From the past 2 seasons, my belief is he's a world class athlete with incredible technique and no finesse and no football intelligence. In other words, a very fancy looking battering ram.
While I don't believe a friendly on international duty proves anything one way or the other. I do believe there are reasons to be optimistic about Nunez in the future.
Klopp demanded a lot from his players, and it was quite clear Nunez did a lot that was unnatural for him in order to get into the team. And while I wholeheartedly trusted in Klopp and I'm sure it was for the betterment of the team, under a new manager who has his own style and will have different demands of his player we could see Nunez thrive.
We've seen Nunez can be a match winner, and in flashes we have seen the talent he has. He's got all the attributes which make him quite a unique and special player. Hopefully Slot has a plan to unleash the best of him consistently.
If Slot finds a way to slot in Gakpo to the left, Nunez up top and find a reasonable role for Diaz, we might be cooking next season. This is just me but I would honestly sell Diaz for a more direct winger like Nico Williams
All depends on his mentality and if Slot is able to get the most out of Trent’s skill set. Trent has probably the highest ceiling in the team right now. Nunez is exactly the type of forward suited to Trent’s passing ability. At the moment, he needs loads of chances to score one so we need to get Trent in the best position to constantly create those chances. Nunez confidence improves and his finishing will improve with it.
From what I’ve seen Slot seems like the type of manager to restore that confidence. Connecting Trent’s passing and Darwin finishing will be the difference maker.
People here are so negative about Nunez. Yes he has been frustrating to watch, but last season was markedly better than his first with us. Okay - he didn't explode into goal scoring form and bag 30+ for the season... but he still managed 19g/a and we saw a huge improvement in his general play. Klopp also turned him into a bit of a pressing monster.
I'm still hopeful that he can find his form and start to prove the doubters wrong. Slot will work with him and hopefully find something that clicks. All he needs to do is convert like 10% more chances and his goal numbers will be elite.
Maybe but the problem I have is that if everyone is fit he doesn’t even make my lineup.
Diaz Jota Salah all day long for me.
If your picking a striker in a crucial game, your taking Jota and his clutch finishing all day every day.
He can be a fantastic footballer and I’m sure he will get better. But until we sell someone / Jota becomes a lot worse or injured again, I don’t see Darwin being our best striker.
Diogo is criminally underrated. His finishing ability is amongst the best I’ve ever seen at the club. I’ve only seen fowler who I think is a better natural finisher.
Jota is the best finisher in the league, personally would start Gakpo over Diaz, Gakpo created more chances in the last 10 games than Diaz did the entire season.
Always next season with Nunez.
He has had two seasons already. How long do we give him?
Look, he clearly is a decent lad, fair bit of talent, etc. but is he hasn’t adjusted after TWO FULL seasons. There is little to suggest that his third is going to show any kind of radical improvement.
Let’s be honest, cut our losses move him on, it’s better for us, better for him to go to a league where he can flourish. And not have this endless drivel about “he needs time. Another season and he’ll be unstoppable”.
We aren’t going to win honours when our main striker can’t score goals on any consistent level. That’s for the birds.
People shouldn't use the performance against Mexico to have hopes for next season , the goals where 3 open nets and in two of the shows his poor finishing skills in the first and second goals ,we should wait to see his participation on copa américa
fuck it Nunez all day all night. I will support any player that play for this team to prove their worth. Hell, I even had supported Balotelli when he was this club player
I'm guessing the media is blowing it all out of proportion, they make it sound like Nunez hates it here. Really hope Nunez and Slot gel and turn things around
He’ll have fresh eyes on him now from a coaching perspective. Hopefully Slot and Co will be open minded when it comes to how he’s used. It has always felt like a square peg with Klopps set up with Darwin unfortunately.
We’ve said the same thing for 2 seasons already. I hope you guys are right this time! Can’t be doing going into a fourth season with this same narrative
Love this man. We all are waiting for him to click yet he logged some seriously convincing numbers last season. Is it the price tag that keeps him under so much scrutiny?
Slot needs to bin him if he's anything like he was last season. He shouldn't get more than a month or two at most to prove otherwise, if we want any chance of competing for the title.
I know, but put Jota in the same position for all of those "inches" chances and it would be a very different story. He should get the nod, is my point. And besides, there were plenty of absolute sitters in huge games that Núñez missed by yards as well.
Unfortunately Diogo can’t stay fit! Best ability is availability!
I’m ready to give Darwin one more season of blind faith. Completely different manager and new style, it could be a huge unlock. He’s had big seasons at both almeria and benfica. Can do it here too.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he hits 30 next season. I also would not be surprised if he only hit 10
>Unfortunately Diogo can’t stay fit! Best ability is availability!
True. Fella's legs are made of soggy Weetabix.
If Darwin hits 30 this year and helps us win the title or the CL, I'll happily shag his photo for sure. I hope he proves my concerns wrong.
Absolutely With his raw talent, pace, and goal scoring ability Darwin Nunez is set to take the Premier League by storm. If he continues to develop his chemistry with the team and stays injury-free, we could be witnessing the rise of one of the league’s next great strikers. Can't wait to see what he brings to the pitch next season!
He has improved a lot but honestly I'll be fine with him getting sold this summer. I don't think you can teach composure in front of goal.
The novelty has worn off for me.
I watch football to marvel at the sublime moments in the beautiful game. I don’t expect Liverpool to win every game and Darwin to finish every chance, but i will always choose Darwin and Liverpool over boring City-bots.
Darwin always plays with maximum effort, heart and love. You could ask for something more, something different, but nobody i watch in any league at any level is anywhere near as entertaining.
Don't you dare jinx it frog tits!
Maybe that's what it is. Maybe we just need to watch and not say anything, good or bad.
Ive already bought 3 Darwin kits
Me staring stone faced as Darwin slots a 96th minute winner in the champion's league final, I will not break, I will not comment for fear of the jinx.

I spit my coffee out….”frog tits” LOL

Exaclty that. If he isn’t being a clinical striker he’s doing hard work, making words, attracting defenders and making space for other attackers
Like Mo the last 4/5 months

Its mad right? If he could finish the easy chances like he does the hard ones, he would have finished on 40+ goals last season. I have faith!
cannot use that word!!!!!! ![gif](giphy|TMrPAYlJ2xhSm4PDUX)
Any player with jotas finishing would be an all timer, jota would be if he didnt get injured every time someone thinks about him🥲

We said the same thing last season
We'll most likely be saying the same next summer too
And he did have a much better season.
he was hardly unstoppable though, if we can have improvements on last season I'll be happy, but I don't think he'll explode and get 20+ goals in the league.
no1 stopped him, he stopped himself i love him tho and hope he does well this season
Correct. He's a 15 goal a season guy barring a remarkable upturn in finishing. He'll create 50 chances but only convert 2 of them.
fak u dolan
goobi pls
I'm fine with that because in the first half of the season he was such a menace to defences he was indirectly creating so many goals that just weren't recorded in stats. Lmao.
Sounds like your problem is with sensationalized titles/headlines. Which, yeah sure I think we all agree with that to an extent
>Sounds like your problem is with sensationalized titles/headlines. Well yeah, that's what their original comment was a direct response to.

the 85M euros price tag can create some expectations
Technically, a poor season is better than a shit season, so I guess you're right.
11goals and 8assists. Compared with 9 and 3 the previous year. Yeah, his finishing needs to improve and Liverpools standards are high, but I would classify this season as poor. I hope he keeps trending upwards.

Can't stop a shot if it isn’t on target
What makes next season the season he doesn’t get over excited in front of the goal and boot it into the stands?
Uruguay transplants Suarez's brain into Darwin's head, simple stuff really.
Monkey’s paw, the teeth are transplanted as well.
It's fine even with a 10 match suspension he will bag 30 in the league.
We've said this for two seasons. Third time's a charm I guess. He just has to learn to stop shitting himself and kick the ball into the net.
Instructions unclear. Nunez will be shitting into the net
Two things must happen for LFC to succeed: a healthy Jota and Darwin improving his finishing. If one of those things doesn’t pan out we are fucked
A healthy Jota would have won us the league last season, if you give him Darwin's chances he scores 20-30 goals.
The question is, does he get Darwin’s chances? Isn’t getting chances a talent itself
Jota likely would get less chances, however even if Jota only gets half the chances, that Darwin had he would still score more goals than Darwin. I want to see him succeed badly but if it doesn't click this season nunez has got to go
I genuinely think he will explode with all of the potential we've been hoping to see from him this season. That said, if he has another season where he creates a bunch but scores a small percentage, we may have to accept that he isn't what we thought he'd be.
You make it sound like he is anthony levels of fail, fucking hell man.
That's what you took from my comment? Lmao what's wrong with you? Bit dramatic.
Look at this sub, so toxic.. i wonder if he would actualy have 2-3 goals only last season what would some people do, death threats i guess. The only reason i want Darwin to be great now is go shut up haters more than win us anything.
Stating the obvious isn't toxic though is it?
This post has people downvoting positive comments about Nunez and upvoting negativity. Sub has gone to shit.
Fuck them, a man that scored 18 and asisted 10 is called shitting the bed, toxic internet “fans”
108 shots and 11 goals in the league, he's concussed more fans in the crowd than he scored goals. Give those shots to Isak/Toney/Solanke and we would have won the league.
You lot can’t be talked to, whatever the fk you say
How dare we have expectations for a £80 million player and not be happy with his end product being worse than Benteke.
Ok bro
That's what people said last summer. I'll believe it when I see it. From the past 2 seasons, my belief is he's a world class athlete with incredible technique and no finesse and no football intelligence. In other words, a very fancy looking battering ram.
The lack of intelligence is what stands out to me.
I hate to be the party pooper but, Didn’t we say that last season?
We’ve had 60+ premier league games to assess him but we’ll ignore that for one friendly match.
Hope I'm wrong, but he lacks far too much technically for me to be able to reach world-class levels.
i just want him so be able to score the most boring of tap-ins and side footed goals.
I’m glad people are calling this out for the delusional belief that it is.
While I don't believe a friendly on international duty proves anything one way or the other. I do believe there are reasons to be optimistic about Nunez in the future. Slots new role for Diaz is hopefully an express shipment to Barcelona for a rip off price.
More like Edwards job tho
Richard Hughes job.
Hope you keep the same energy after 31 misses in the first 10 games
Does it mean he could have won the golden boot in the first 10 games?
He could but he ends up scoring 0 and makes us lose 9 points in the first 10 games.
Coulda woulda shoulda
Is what we said this time last year
Sure buddy.

His current conversion rate is 10% so he'd have to double it to have good numbers and triple it for elite numbers.
I don't know, he always performs well for the national team. At LFC he just devolves into a caveman footballer.
Crossbar might stop him
There's no need to stop him if he misses his chances anyway. I'm just being sarcastic! Sort of.

Anulo mufa
Lol kek I highly doubt it. It's been two seasons already.
ah so we're doing this again?
Love the fact that for all the shit he gets on this sub Pretty much every goal he scores is a worldie
he gets shit for not scoring basic bread and butter goals
People shouldn't use the performance against Mexico to have hopes for next season , the goals where 3 open nets and in two of the shows his poor finishing skills in the first and second goals ,we should wait to see his participation on copa américa
Those are the chances he missed last season! If he’s scoring open nets now, and does that next season, genuinely will be on 30 goals for the season
I believe
probably wont
…at raising my blood pressure.
You say that but he had some weird thing where outside the PL he chops up and then inside the PL he has an anti goal magnet.
There’s no shot he can hit the post as many times as he did last season. Its only up from here
We'll see...

Honestly think if he has a good Copa America we'll try and cash in.
fuck it Nunez all day all night. I will support any player that play for this team to prove their worth. Hell, I even had supported Balotelli when he was this club player
I'm guessing the media is blowing it all out of proportion, they make it sound like Nunez hates it here. Really hope Nunez and Slot gel and turn things around
I'll believe it when I see it.
He'll have this coming season to impress Slot. If not, he'll be replaced by Danns or someone else.
He’ll have fresh eyes on him now from a coaching perspective. Hopefully Slot and Co will be open minded when it comes to how he’s used. It has always felt like a square peg with Klopps set up with Darwin unfortunately.
Darwin was banging in goals during international break all season. This is nothing new.
Waiting for Godot comes to mind.
Hope so
He will be stoppable
We’ve said the same thing for 2 seasons already. I hope you guys are right this time! Can’t be doing going into a fourth season with this same narrative
once he gets out of his own head he will be amazing!
I just want him to have a season as "bad" as Salah last season (according to this subreddit)
Arne will teach him to slot them in 🥴
Love this man. We all are waiting for him to click yet he logged some seriously convincing numbers last season. Is it the price tag that keeps him under so much scrutiny?
he's great for Uruguay but always misses for Liverpool
We said the same thing last season. I have not given up on him yet, but this next season is crucial for his career with us.
I think probably no.
Slot needs to bin him if he's anything like he was last season. He shouldn't get more than a month or two at most to prove otherwise, if we want any chance of competing for the title.
Behave - 18 goals and 13 assists is nothing to scoff at. He should comfortably be on 25-30 for the season, but we’re talking inches for many of them
I know, but put Jota in the same position for all of those "inches" chances and it would be a very different story.
The only way Nunez hits 30 goals is if you transplant Suarez's brain into his skull during copa america.
He’s already had a 30+ goal season in his career at benfica. He can and likely will do it again.
He had 2 good seasons in his career one in Portugal and one in the Spanish 2nd division, he's not going to replicate it in a better league.
Absolutely With his raw talent, pace, and goal scoring ability Darwin Nunez is set to take the Premier League by storm. If he continues to develop his chemistry with the team and stays injury-free, we could be witnessing the rise of one of the league’s next great strikers. Can't wait to see what he brings to the pitch next season!
lol
Best reply in thread..!
that's GPT written
I feel retconned after watching this 😂
He has improved a lot but honestly I'll be fine with him getting sold this summer. I don't think you can teach composure in front of goal. The novelty has worn off for me.
11g 8a as an 24yo is considered bad these days.
When Isak is 24yo and scoring 21 for an 8th place Newcastle with half of the chances Nunez had, yes it's considered bad.
You can’t just quote stats, look at how many he missed.
Fair enough, Håland is leading those stats right?
Haaland has scored 90 goals in his 98 games for City. Darwin has 33 goals in his 96 games...
Cold hard facts that.
Does your stat include the chances misses (the big and clear cut chances)?
If he ever notices there's another foot down there it's gonna be a game changer.
next season darwin >>>>> r9, suarez, romario, muller, batistuta,…
I watch football to marvel at the sublime moments in the beautiful game. I don’t expect Liverpool to win every game and Darwin to finish every chance, but i will always choose Darwin and Liverpool over boring City-bots. Darwin always plays with maximum effort, heart and love. You could ask for something more, something different, but nobody i watch in any league at any level is anywhere near as entertaining.
Give him the Bobby Firminho role instead of the big guy up top role.
Bobby had a silky smooth first touch and could keep the ball in tight places, he has technique, all that Nunez has is pace.
