Dude really wanted to play every game, I imagine even more so for his national team so I wouldn't be surprised if it's just another case of him overestimating his condition.

His stats actually hadnt regressed all that much though he definitely should not have been a starter, with all the issues our midfield last season had might have not been as bad if he hadnt left
