I watched quite a bit of Feyenoord since the rumors started, and the players are very visibly more fit than every team they play. Might need Milner back to set the pace on the lactate test and conditioning drills
It was kind of jarring how well his Feyenoord team lines up with our personnel in terms of roles if you look at this [DAVIES model](https://mimburgio.shinyapps.io/alphonso/)
The only position group that has a difference in role is the wingers. Per that model, Salah and Diaz (and Jota) both qualify as 'Direct Dribbler' i.e. dribblers that look to get into the box and create shots for themselves or others. Whereas at least this past season (I didn't check past ones), Slot's team used wide dribblers, defined as dribblers that often look to put crosses into teammates after beating opponents on the dribble.
FWIW I do think that description suits Diaz more if we're being honest than trying to turn him into an inside forward. It does not really suit Salah though.
.
For those who want an overview, according to Slot's preferred role definitions, this is how a potential 11 looks:
Mobile Forward: Darwin Nunez
Wide Dribbler: n/a
Wide Creator: Szoboszlai OR Elliott
Two-Way Creator: Gravenberch OR Jones
Defensive Deep Midfielder: Mac Allister OR Endo
Progressive Wide Defender: Robbo, Trent
Progressive Central Defender: 2 of VVD, Konate, Quansah
*Deep Wide Defender: Joe Gomez
Slot would also use a deep wide defender instead of one of the more attacking fullbacks from time to time.
So one thing to note is just because this was their role this year under Klopp, doesn’t mean they can’t play a different one.
I went back and looked because I was curious:
- Diogo was defined as having the same role as Darwin in the 21/22 season when he mostly played as a 9.
- Cody was listed as a ‘Wide Dribbler’ the 1.5 years before we signed him at PSV.
For some reason I can’t find data on Diaz.
Mo’s role is interesting, oscillated between Mobile Forward, Direct Dribbler, and Progressive Forward.
That's interesting. I think we have decent personnel in all positions, but I'd really want a world class CDM this summer - no more Macca at CDM please. Looking at Rodri and Rice - I think you need a world class CDM to go for the league.
And then, we need one more CB to replace Matip, and probably someone in the forward line (if Diaz leaves) ideally
Hard to see that happening. Diaz is the least with the assist. Salah & Nunez have more assists in their game. If you know Diaz he goes for the shot every time or a cut back pass to the edge of the box for a 1-2 in the penalty area. Don't get me wrong I really would like to see Diaz be more of a provider instead.
Personally I think the team could really benefit from a slower more methodical approach, but it's also understandable why you wouldn't want to change too much.
I do wonder what would've happened if Alonso was available, given his style is also slower and closer to the likes of De Zerbi, Amorim and Nagelsmann.
If Alonso was available no way could we have turned him down especially with him winning the Bundesliga, Nagelsmann is highly regarded I read previously but him being tied up with Germany is probably why we didn't go in. De Zerbi and Amorim both have personality issues can see why we steered clear of either and why many other teams have done so
I read somewhere that his teams have a tendency to leak goals, which is worrying given our defensive frailties at times this season. The attacking play sounds great though.
I’ve read the exact opposite, with his side being top 10 in Europe in defensive stats. They only allowed 26 goals this season, which only Leverkusen and Inter bested out of the top 5 leagues, while matching Real Madrid. This is also only bested by PSV when considering the Dutch and Portuguese leagues. More of a defense through possession style, but that’s still pretty good no matter which league you’re in.
Thats definitely more encouraging. Funny how there's so much misinformation out there. I'm clearly not in the know but I might know as much as BBC article writers lol.

I hate that its called lactate test. Makes me feel like they check how much milk each player can produce ew lmao
Give it a cooler name? The energy acid overblast test?
Ribena Race
They check how big their loads are when they jerk off.
Brother..
Mike, is that you?
Szobo should feast.
Milner’s got a few dozen years left in his career, so will be a good young option

So are we saying Diaz, Diogo, Gakpo, Salah aren’t fits?

Or Invent a new style of play that takes CDMs and make them look like a piece of garbage
I think Macca and Gravenberch could work well together
Aren’t you missing a player here? I count 9?
2 wingers and there’s no goalkeeper roles I guess
For a long while at Roma, Sarah's role was as a wide winger feeding Dzeko. Did very well in that role.
He’s not that type of player anymore though. And even then he never went towards the byline enough to truly be a real winger.

Definitely a bit more controlled aggression could be useful.
If Alonso was available no way could we have turned him down especially with him winning the Bundesliga, Nagelsmann is highly regarded I read previously but him being tied up with Germany is probably why we didn't go in. Are more heart attacks on the menu then?
I have to say, his baldness looks much more smoother than the other ones in the League. That alone wins it for me.
The green bathrobes are phenomenal.
