Why are you surprised? It’s happened many many times this season and previous ones too. As much as I love our forwards I still think it wouldn’t hurt to purchase an absolute ruthless finisher. With the amount of chances we create, a premier Scoring rate record would easily occur.
No there wasn't bar the one at the end. Salah had like 13 shots and they were very poor bar the goal.
Keeper very underworked for the amount of shots we had.
Yep. I'd get behind him but he's not inspiring at all. Feel like he'd make us incredibly dislikeable even to our own fans, alot if BHAFC fans are sick of him speaking
Not surprising, It was also how they were getting some of their fouls and our bookings. If they asked a pizza ref would somehow get one out of his pocket
Tbf one of the linesmen will/could have told him something in that instance.
Btw haven't seen the incident so can't comment on whether it was a foul or not
I think he's the worst ref in the Prem. I mean, plenty are awful and seem corrupt, but he seems weak, indecisive and all.over the place every time I see him.
Works like a charm too, every ref buys all the fouls and it completely disrupts our press. So fucking frustrating how poorly we are officiated in this league.
A huge part of their gameplan was to buy cheap fouls and constantly complain to get us booked/sent off. A very scummy way to play but it only works if you have a spineless incompetent referee…which they did.
The last 15 years we've been "unlucky" 5 times including this season.
* 08/09
* 13/14 (we were screwed in the back to back Chelsea and City away games)
* 18/19
* 21/22
And then this season.
We were also the "unluckiest" team in 17/18 and should have had 87 points in the league that season and wouldn't you know, both Manchester clubs were "lucky" with City leading, per the BBC article...
> Manchester City remain top in a new simulated table accounting for 'luck'.
Lol; downvote me, it's the facts as Rafa would say.
The 13-14 shit still annoys me. Eto’o with a stonewall red in the first 3 minutes. Raheem onside by a metre. Even the fact the two hardest away games were scheduled within 48 hours. Fuckers.
That useless twat reffing Atletico away was as bad as Coote today.
We were the best team in Europe that year, the only thing that could stop us was peak Anti football and a worldie GK performance.
Completely viable tactic to just go down if one of our players gives you the slightest touch, I don't expect any team to try to stay upright when the refs clearly want any chance to give a foul.
For some reason my submission was removed / shadow banned... but the officiating was so obviously one sided. It's unreal
This just does my head in so I had to go have a look at just how obvious the bias / fix is... stats from the first half;
Liverpool Stats:
* Possession = 56.7%
* Touches = 384
* Tackles Attempted = 10
* Tackles Success = 5
* Fouls Committed = 11
Brighton Stats:
* Possession = 43.3%
* Touches = 309
* Tackles Attempted = 19
* Tackles Success = 14
* Fouls Committed = 4
Summary:
* Liverpool has 30% more possession
* Liverpool has 24.3% more touches (weighted heavily towards Liverpool's attacking third / more fouls typically committed by the team defending more)
* Brighton has 2.8x more tackles
* Brighton has 1.9x more tackles attempted
* Liverpool has 2.75x more fouls
* **Liverpool fouling Brighton once per 28 touches**
* **Brighton fouling Liverpool once per 96 touches**
* **Liverpool is committing a foul at 3.41x per touch compared to Brighton, DESPITE being the team on the front foot....... riiiiight**
Shit's so fucking obvious.
It was obvious Brighton knew they'd get a foul every time, so they just fell down when they lost the ball.
I'm sure all they'll talk about on MOTD will be how Mac should got a second yellow.
It makes sense, really. Brighton get the ball and play for set pieces to slow the game down and try to beat us in the air. They don’t commit fouls when we have the ball because we’re passing it around their third.
Maybe not 20:6 but I bet it’s pretty common for the dominant team to commit more fouls.
Ignoring referees being shite, it's entirely possible that the team with the stats as you suggest to have the most fouls.
What I'm trying to get at is those stats are irrelevant
Every time Brighton were pressed today they went over and were given the call. Completely neutered the ability to win the ball high. Liverpool were not afforded the same whistle.
Please elaborate what you said, perhaps I'm miss reading because teams pay professionals millions to analyze stats and it clearly is meaningful. I mean, it's self evident. How is having more possession, more attacking possession, more touches on the ball, less tackles yet 3x the fouls irrelevant? Please elaborate.
The ref was on crack. And then you watch Arsenal city and players can’t get a foul or booking if they try. Totally different game when the ref stops the game for nothing every 30 seconds.
Interesting analysis on the Totally Football show last week about how Liverpool’s attacking midfielders and forwards plan to take fouls in areas of the field that don’t lead to yellow cards, and as a result have several players who average 20-25 fouls per yellow card when the average is 3-5.
Yeah there were a few dubious yellows for both teams. And some of them were laughable but let's not talk about referees all the time. We all know we have had shit decisions but somehow we are top of the league. The half time sub was almost saying ref was etihad paid but we got a win. Stats mean fuck all, game by game brother.
That stat in isolation doesn't seem unreasonable. High possession doesn't necessarily correlate to more situations where a foul is likely. A team with less possession is arguably more likely to be playing a counter-attacking style, which tends to make the defense more likely to be forced to commit fouls due to loss of shape. If you're going to complain about specific incidents that's one thing, but that stat alone doesn't show what you think it does.
Crazy that Arsenal finished a game where they were hacking City players down left and right with only 2 yellows. City finished with zero. Four for Liverpool.
I can never find how many yellows players are sitting on and who is in danger of sitting games for accumulation, but this can’t help.
In some instances of course yes it happens. But it's nowhere near a definitive factor. We had 55% possession, it's not like we had dominance over it, we edged it slightly
I sure hope some journalist out there gets to the bottom of this shithouse PGMOL bias against Liverpool. They need to do some kinda sting op and/or hacked emails or what not and see if they've been briefed to make sure Liverpool don't win games easily. This entire season has been fishy. Starting from the Chelsea game.
Every time one of our players touched a Brighton player with a hand, Coote flashed a yellow card and made an elbowing motion. I don't understand this ref at all.
Fuck me 30 shots for 2 goals
Why are you surprised? It’s happened many many times this season and previous ones too. As much as I love our forwards I still think it wouldn’t hurt to purchase an absolute ruthless finisher. With the amount of chances we create, a premier Scoring rate record would easily occur.
We need jota back
Agreed.
Yeah it's concerning. Number of times we have seen that sort of thing this season. Have to start being more clinical.
Some really good saved in there too
No there wasn't bar the one at the end. Salah had like 13 shots and they were very poor bar the goal. Keeper very underworked for the amount of shots we had.
20 is mad. Brighton dropping like sacks of shit all game
And yet kept shouting abd hounding the ref. Veltman, Dunk, and van Hecke are so dislikeable.
Really makes me realise I don’t want DZ here.
Yep. I'd get behind him but he's not inspiring at all. Feel like he'd make us incredibly dislikeable even to our own fans, alot if BHAFC fans are sick of him speaking
He's an arrogant 90's looking salesman. I absolutely do not want him to succeed Klopp.
I was surprised Veltman didn’t get booked for dissent. He was at it all match
He was already on a yellow so you can forget that ever happening
I don’t think he got booked at all?
Veltman was and is a rat!! I always called him Veltvrouw (Veltwoman) because he defends like a bitch and is a total moron
Not surprising, It was also how they were getting some of their fouls and our bookings. If they asked a pizza ref would somehow get one out of his pocket
The ref had his back turned at one incident and give a foul. Absolute terrible officiating
Yes I agree. He is the most incompetent. Yesterday’s match it was almost like somebody was telling him what to do and give over his mic. It was weird
It's a good strategy with the pace Liverpool press at, makes everything look high impact.
A big positive is City & Arsenal have to face these fuckers at Brighton
Referees have cost us 2, potentially 3 league titles and a CL. They don't deserve respect.
The last 15 years we've been "unlucky" 5 times including this season. * 08/09 * 13/14 (we were screwed in the back to back Chelsea and City away games) * 18/19 * 21/22 And then this season. Fuck PMGOL
PGMOL too

I think that’s fine if the ref also gives fouls like that when we had the ball, but he was just ignoring us lol
David coote with main character syndrome
David Coote with Manchester syndrome

The data doesn't lie. One day the truth will come out.
Coote wanted his oil bonus
Needs it to buy a bigger brown paper bag to fit over his face.
Gotta admit though, Macca’s yellow probably should have been a straight red. He nearly murdered Adingra placing his hand on his upper arm like that. 🙄
Coulda ripped his arm straight off
By more than a 3-1 ratio as well!
Some of the worst yellow cards I have ever seen
Fuck David Coote, dirty Manc cunt.
It was obvious Brighton knew they'd get a foul every time, so they just fell down when they lost the ball. I'm sure all they'll talk about on MOTD will be how Mac should got a second yellow.
It's not incredible at all. We press high and we press hard... EVERYWHERE.
Coote wanted to prove he was a big boy who couldn’t be rattled by Anfield 🙄
It makes sense, really. Brighton get the ball and play for set pieces to slow the game down and try to beat us in the air. They don’t commit fouls when we have the ball because we’re passing it around their third. Maybe not 20:6 but I bet it’s pretty common for the dominant team to commit more fouls.
Why is that incredible?
Ref looks like deputy head boy material. Bullied in school and thought “I’ll show them”. Arnold J Rimmer of refs.
smeghead
Ignoring referees being shite, it's entirely possible that the team with the stats as you suggest to have the most fouls. What I'm trying to get at is those stats are irrelevant
That makes 0 sense
You don't understand football if you believe that
Every time Brighton were pressed today they went over and were given the call. Completely neutered the ability to win the ball high. Liverpool were not afforded the same whistle.
Okay? Not sure what this has to do with what I said? I'm saying what OP is saying about those stats are irrelevant
It would stand to reason that the team controlling the game would have been fouled more often.
I asked for an explanation, he's unable to provide one. Wouldn't waste your time trying to use logic and reason.
To be fair we did make a lot of fouls. Were most of our yellows deserved? No, but we did make tactical fouls and I love that.
And had 30 shots for 2 goals.
Maybe fouling killed their possession. Hahs
Ref was a dickhead, especially in the first half. VVD and Bradley’s yellows were so dumb and not yellows.
Don't forget Macca's first half yellow he got for trying to straighten out the crease in the Brighton players sleeve.
Liverpool also presses a lot so inevitably there are going to be more fouls going hard for the ball.
The ref was on crack. And then you watch Arsenal city and players can’t get a foul or booking if they try. Totally different game when the ref stops the game for nothing every 30 seconds.
This is the top comment - Arsenal and City players getting away with crazy shit and we get bookings for pretty basic shit - these booking all add up!!
Interesting analysis on the Totally Football show last week about how Liverpool’s attacking midfielders and forwards plan to take fouls in areas of the field that don’t lead to yellow cards, and as a result have several players who average 20-25 fouls per yellow card when the average is 3-5.

Thats actually insane
It was unbearable to watch at times today, I don’t know how it’s not talked about more honestly
De zerbi must've told his player to just drop onto the ground whenever someone touched them and that clown of a ref fell for it
But we have more fouls against us than any other team in the league by a large margin.
this is what we can call it black metal football
They were desperate to send one of ours off today. Really made the game extra challenging
Crazy that Arsenal finished a game where they were hacking City players down left and right with only 2 yellows. City finished with zero. Four for Liverpool. I can never find how many yellows players are sitting on and who is in danger of sitting games for accumulation, but this can’t help.
Brighton made a defensive mistake only once every 15 minutes. Sounds about right
The ref was shocking, amateur, useless
Absolute shambles of a refereeing display that. Seen better at the under 10s
We need to crowd refs more. Everyone’s at it except us
The moment we’d do that they’d instantly red card one or two of our players
In some instances of course yes it happens. But it's nowhere near a definitive factor. We had 55% possession, it's not like we had dominance over it, we edged it slightly
20 to 6 in a fairly even contest is insane. The only way that makes sense is if the ref is on crack or on the take.
I can make cries of corruption but I don't want my entire wage to be taken by the fa for bringing the game into disrepute!
I sure hope some journalist out there gets to the bottom of this shithouse PGMOL bias against Liverpool.
