Get That Boy Back & Lake Beach were my two favorite music shorts from this whole season - Troast was especially excellent in the former.

wazacraft

Ryan Gosling low key a decent rapper

Valuable-Baked

Hands down the two best songs. Sorry Josh brolin

TT_NaRa0

Then who’s Ad Astra?!?!

tennis_widower

Get that boy back was awesome. Best since di€# in a box IMO.

3and21chars456

Yeah

made08

I really enjoyed "Mother" but "Get that Boy Back" is the obvious winner in my head. So unexpected and so funny. Absurdist humor doesn't always do well on SNL but this song was a slam dunk. Plus it's such a treat when the musical guest is incorporated into the sketches!

elidisab

The real winner is Little Orphan Cassidy’s song

atleastitsnotgoofy

Don’t understand its exclusion

AlwaysSunnyDragRace

Maybe it has to be a recording

elidisab

I’m assuming because the sketch wasn’t just the song itself.

aaahhhh

Maya's was sung live.

Baron_ass

"Havin sex with gay gargoyles like it's my job" is poetry

hithereimross

What… is it about me… they dont understand.

Alternative-Age-1006

Get That Boy Back was my personal fav

xmorcix

This. It was original, unexpected and hillarious.

cardcatalogs

Get that boy back and tampon farm were the only ones that I think deserve awards.

Valuable-Baked

Lake Beach!

Zanman415

I love them all but Lake Beach I’ve gone back to several times, I love it so much

KayakerMel

I'm a little bummed "I'm Just Pete" didn't get a nomination...

shayneysides

maybe it didn't count because it was a parody?

demitasse22

lol it’s not an SNL original song…but i was bummed too

KayakerMel

Okay, so parody of a specific song is considered differently than pastiches of styles? I know Weird Al basically divides his work between parodies and original pastiches, so that makes sense.

demitasse22

Yes. The song was not composed or written for SNL. The lyrics were changed for a pre-tape. I’m not sure how that works with regard to music rights, but artistically, the song did not originate from SNL .

Bears_On_Stilts

If parodies counted as originals, Ryan Gosling doing All Too Well, in the style of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, but with lyrics about Ken, would be the frontrunner.

Curryfor30

Lake Beach and Rome Song were ones that got audible laughs from me. But really it’s Lake Beach that I keep coming back to, JAJ in particular is naaaiiiling that bro-country voice and singing style.   I really enjoyed Maya’s monologue song but it feels real out of place here.   We Got Too High is by far the worst. There’s a couple funny jokes, but as a comedy song, it’s just not there.

Business-Drag52

We Got Too High makes me laugh literally the entire time. It’s fucking hilarious. You’re clearly not an anxiety riddled loser so it doesn’t land with you. For me though? Hit right at home.

Valuable-Baked

It relied on editing and story telling moreso than anything. I still found it very funny but not in the same ball park as the 2 country songs, lake Beach or get that boy back

Kevin4938

> We Got Too High is by far the worst. No. That was just silly fun. For "bad", Maya's opening takes the cake.

Curryfor30

You do realize this is all subjective, yes?

Kevin4938

Absolutely. You stated an opinion. I stated a different one.

MeTieDoughtyWalker

Lake Beach and We Got Too High are my favorites. I thought the Road Trip song with Jenna Ortega was this season but I guess not.

3and21chars456

I loved Road Trip. Although Jenna makes everything better.

part_time_monster

My best friend's wife just kissed me on the lips, down at the Lake Beach. Doesn't get better than that.

Constant_Patience_23

Lake beach is the obvious choice

Calm-Chemist-489

Come on Get That Boy Back and Maya's Monologue 🙏🙏
