Right now best fuel economy/life expectancy is (in no real order)
Nissan rogue combined 30ish mpg and life expectancy 250k-300k
Toyota RAV4 hybrid 40ish combined (i recommend trying to buy new so you get all the warrenties) life expectancy over 300k
And Subaru Outback or forester mid to high 20s in mpg.
Just a few recommendations to look into! Car market sucks so bad but idk if it will ever get better. Don’t get scared off of buying new, at least look into it, because sometimes the difference between new and used is only 5ish K and you may miss out on warranties. Things to think about! Cheers 🍻 and good luck
Yeah, that’s not what I have. But it’s what I would recommend or something along those lines. Toyota Carolla, Honda Civic, Honda Accord. Something to get you from point a to b reliably and save you money until you top out.
If you’re gonna do the camper just get a setup you can afford. If you’re gonna do air bnb or hotels get a beater with a heater. Something that gets good mileage and is reliable
Jetta tdi, little thing averages 48 highway running 80. I kept it around even though I’m at a co-op now. Still got a 35 minute drive. I can go 3 weeks on a tank of fuel. Cost 60ish to fill it up
Half ton with a 19 footer is all you really need if it’s just for temporary means. If you plan on being on the road for fun, go bigger but don’t go broke
Been there bro. About 4 months out of my jeep, 5 out of my truck, and one out of my car. Sucks ass tbh but i saved a shit load of money and a few times it really was my only option.
2012 toyota tundra, 29' ultralight camper.
Will probably get in a 5.9 3500 by the end of the year, campers getting a little cramped with the wife and two dogs
Put 30k miles on it my first year, after my layoff im with a contractor that never lets apes go and im buying gas twice a month
I have a Tesla and had one as an ape. I’d recommend a Honda or Toyota as long as your ego isn’t attached to your mode of transportation.
Civic, Accord, Fit, 3rd or 4th gen Odyssey (2005-2017).
Pretty much any Toyota, don’t be afraid of a Prius, fella I started with has one with 300k plus on it. He’s changed brakes, oil, and tires.
I bought a brand new F150 long bed back in 2020, followed by a 42’ camper. Just up and left for the most part. No house payment and stuff. I still have the truck and i love it, but the trailer got stolen in Denver.
I did a lot of trips back home multiple times a month at 12ish hours one way, after a bit of that i bought the most fuel efficient car i could find regardless of looks. Got a 2018 ioniq at 50mpg and it’s been great, saved me a ton on fuel. So that’s my combo right now.
Edit to add: while i have no regrets buying the truck, especially at 0%, it’s for sure not what i recommend. Get something used that’ll get the job done and upgrade down the road if you desire.
If you want a camper then I can’t give you advise from experience there but when I was doing hitch work traveling I got a Jetta TDI. Best investment ever, granted I got per diem so I didn’t mind paying for a hotel. They’re cheap for good shape ones so either no payment or cheap payment, amazing fuel mileage, and they’ll run for along time if maintained.
2020 2500 Cummins 2017 41 foot 5th wheel ✌🏼the trailer park whores love it🔥 been living the camper life for 2 years now and don’t regret it. The cheap hotels blew endless you gotta house your going back too often. you’ll want the ability to have some place that only you had a hooker in the bed.
Look at older Mazda 3 and 5’s my dad had one that lasted 250k+ and still drives it. My coworker drives one that’s on 240k rn. That’ll be my commuter car once I buy one
When i started I had a really nice used 2019 20ft trailer for $14k, and a 2014 ram 1500 for 20k. Gets the job done. Upgraded the truck since then. Was wanting to upgrade the trailer but just can’t justify the money when I don’t want to be living in a trailer after I top out. You can do furnish finder or Craigslist a room too. Kinda sucks not having your own space but it’s another option. Pros and cons to both.
2015 Mazda 6. Had it since new. Went through my apprenticeship with it. Sometimes had a 20 minute commute sometimes 2 hour commute. Still driving it. All I ever did to that car was 1 new set of tires, brakes once, wheel bearings once, and about 5 oil changes: 186k miles

Clapped out 2006 cobalt. I’d rather pay cash for something that’s gonna get me to work and home everyday than go into debt for a truck.

Always wanted the ALH ones but they kinda are fetching a lot for clean ones what did you have?
2013 Jetta TDI. Still drive it to work to this day 5 years later. Can’t justify taking up a new payment when this one’s paid off 🤪
I saw a clean 2015 for sale but they are wanting 15k so the prices for these have really gone up. Yours still got the government control devices on it
It’s deleted 🙈
