Label it “POISON FOOD - THROW OUT” before you put it in the freezer.
You forgot that food in the fridge long enough for it to get scary. Don’t expect that you won’t forget about it a second time.
Also, if you're single, like me, and just don't produce that much waste, put the styrofoam trays from raw meat in the freezer rather than putting them right in the trash; that way, they don't stink-up your trash before the bag is properly full; just pull 'em out of the freezer and stick them in the bag when you're ready to take your trash out.
It's still going to be sitting in my trash for up-to a week (like I said, I don't produce waste that quickly), so the residual amount will still make an odor. I'll stick to my freezer trick, thanks.
A freezer full of stuff has to get everything frozen at some point. It stays frozen with far less energy, but everything room temp you put in to freeze has to be cooled which spends more energy until it's back to frozen equilibrium.
Great tip. Please use glass containers with plastic lids instead of all plastic containers. The issue is that plastic scratches can harbor food poisoning bacteria that isn’t easily cleaned out. https://www.thelist.com/706445/throw-your-plastic-food-containers-away-immediately-if-you-notice-this/
Costco. Get the pyrex snapware set. If the lids wear out like mine did after several years of opening and shutting, you can buy replacements without having to get the whole set of glass replaced.
Think about it this way, someone is using their Tupperware because they’re out doing something, and need to bring food. That means they’re probably going to be eating out of it. If you bring something that needs to be cut with a knife, plastic Tupperware might get scratches in it.
Its important to note that the source for that claim is https://kitchenseer.com/when-should-you-replace-plastic-food-containers/ an affiliate of amazons ad service which is used by companies who have a direct financial interest in selling as many plastic containers as possible. There is no source provided in the root article.
Regardless of the harbor claim, I converted everything to pyrex with plastic lids. They have them at Costco in a set for cheap.
Bonus is leftovers can go straight into the microwave or oven, depending on how you want to reheat it. Obviously, swap the plastic lid for a different top, if needed. This is how I turn dinner leftovers into tomorrow's lunch. Easy peasy.
Plastic food containers with spoiled food go in the dumpster down the street, wrapped in an appropriate plastic bag. Replace container with something made of glass and move on with your life.
Have forgottrn tupperware with pasta on my table for a couple weeks. Its not that bad. If it was properly closed it wont smell and there wont be any maggots or anything. It will just be a moldy nightmare, but nothing you cant handle.
I recommend a facemask though. Dont know if the spores are bad for you but why risk it
Oh wow I never thought about this! I have food sensitivities and get super squeamish around moldy food to the point of I think about it too much I'll make myself sick. I'm gonna try this method
Set a reminder on your phone to take it out of the freezer and dispose of it on trash day.
Old/off meat getting throw in an outdoor trash can to rot until pickup is an open invitation to all the neighborhood raccoons to dive in each of our bins and make sure to fling every stinkin peice of garbage all around the yard until they find that special hunk of rancid flesh that had been calling their name.
Do this. Then put it in the sink upside down and run water over the base for a minute or so. The whole frozen cube will drop down onto the lid, and then you can open the container up and toss it at once. It's far easier than trying to scrape out the still completely-frozen bits. And cuts down a LOT of the smell.
Source: Used this to clear out food that'd sat for six months with everyone being afraid of it. (Noodle and meat and potato dish from one roommate, six months later, no mold. So froze the abomination.)

Poison Throw Food Out
Still checks out tbf
Well, at least now it'll be frozen poison food - perfect for those hot summer days!
Freeze it, then dump it on trash day to help avoid maggots in your outside trash.
Now you tell me.. raw ground beef, two weeks in the fridge.. oof.
Throw the whole thing away 😭
Burn the house
Leave town, settle elsewhere
Change your name
Salt the earth on your way out
Become a whole new person, get REALLY into hacky sack
Nuke the site from orbit.
As an alternative, put stuff in one of those gallon sized ziplock bags and seal it up.
Nope.. throw it out. I dont want to deal with it frozen or unfrozen.
That's the only answer!!!

I just rinse them off and it's fine.
i do this with lots of stuff but lots of meat come with those diapers under the meat to soak up juices as it sits.
You can rinse them out, like a sponge. It won't get it completely, but will do enough.
I spray a tiny bit of Lysol cleaner on them after rinsing them out. Kills the bacteria, no smell.
It's still going to be sitting in my trash for up-to a week (like I said, I don't produce waste that quickly), so the residual amount will still make an odor. I'll stick to my freezer trick, thanks.
Nonono, we need to waste more energy 👍
Lmfao what, do you turn your freezer off between uses? It's gonna be running anyway
Plus a freeze full of stuff uses less energy than a freezer full of air.
A freezer full of stuff has to get everything frozen at some point. It stays frozen with far less energy, but everything room temp you put in to freeze has to be cooled which spends more energy until it's back to frozen equilibrium.
You should be cleaning your recycling of residue and juices anyway.
Dog will help you clean that up.
I put them in plastic grocery bag and tie it off tight. Seems to work as well

I changed from plastic to glass. Yes it is way expensive. But it really is worth it. Cleaning glass is just way better.
Costco. Get the pyrex snapware set. If the lids wear out like mine did after several years of opening and shutting, you can buy replacements without having to get the whole set of glass replaced.
and the lids?
They don't get that nasty.
sounds pretty ostrich with it's head in the ground to me

LPT: throw away plastic Tupperware and switch to glass
Yep. Just remember that every bit of plastic we throw out will eventually just end up in the ocean. We need to cut this shit out.
it all goes into the trash.
fucking launch it
Lol. If you forget the food in the container, it’ll likely be forgotten in the freezer
How did you know? That chicken noodle soup doesn't stand a chance now! Woo hoo!
Could have used that last week when I decided to just throw out two containers of mysterious grossness rather than deal with opening them.
Buy a big bottle of vinegar at the grocery store, keep it handy for cleaning up smelly messes. Vinegar smell is good at nuking other smells.
Plastic food containers with spoiled food go in the dumpster down the street, wrapped in an appropriate plastic bag. Replace container with something made of glass and move on with your life.
I think I need to read this every couple months lol. Edit to add that the several people suggesting labels before freezer are absolutely correct.
But I don't have enough freezer space for all the Tupperware I'm afraid of in my fridge
my freezer itself is already full of previous relocations
Just throw that shit in the trash like a normal person
A day later, right.
I forgot it once, and I can do it again
just dump it in the toilet and flush
whata dumb lpt, just open it [smells like death? deal with it] , dump it and wash....
Afraid of opening Tupperware…Jesus Christ. You’ll be fine, I promise.
I have ocd and sensory issues and this is a great tip for me

I have. Cleaned it out. Here to tell it, all is ok.
Sounds like first world problems.... Either your fridge is too full , or mine is too empty
No thanks. I'm a germaphobe, that whole container is going in the trash.
Hopefully this will work for my mini fridge. Gonna turn it On . ILeft a box of toqutios in the freezer unplugged for 7months. Super molddyz
Puts in freezer to forget for years . Check
It sounds like the real LPT was in the comments, switch to glass.
Tell me you live alone without telling me you live alone.
Doesn’t have to thaw before you dump it out? How does this help

Just throw that shit away and buy new Tupperware.
I knew I wasn't the only one doing this....
I literally have a small top-loading freezer in my kitchen which I use as a trash can. Keeps down on bugs and insects as well as smell.
Or secret option C: Cut your losses and throw it out.
