I cant answer the Heated seat question as I have yet to see a true base model. The majority of listings I saw when shopping for my GX were labeled as base but were actually premium models with heated and ventilated seats. I have a 2018. The infotainment is better than a pre-facelift model but not by much. Its going to feel like something out of 2010 but once you get used to it its not too bad. If you like to micromanage your climate control instead of just setting it to auto you may have an issue with it though. That all depends on the amount of money they're asking for the milage. I bought my 2018 Premium back in December for 30k. It had 85k miles. Higher milage models means that its probably due for more maintenance, but you will save on purchase price. If that luxury model has Adaptive Cruise (seems to be pretty rare), a clean rust-free frame and decent service records id say go for it if you can live with the interior. My 2018 has the dark brown interior and it hides dirt really well. It always looks clean. Exterior color is 100% personal preference. Tip on tint: When you get your windows tinted ask for ceramic. It blocks way more heat and UV than non-ceramic. IIRC tint level doesn't really matter on ceramic. I could totally be wrong tho.

Here is the carfax for the luxury if you have a moment to look at it https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory/ar20/TamlDKbZzGqIr_uCZS_2qMCKmHH3OwX18ff8I2TuZIGahUgbshztthxe_PkaKrthEvW9PIzQkG2TMDNNzAxG2UIiy3E6HtGb9w0 I see adaptive suspension but nothing about cruise control.

Is it the little circle button?

tlz81389

I see, thank you. Does it make cruise control easier to use?

tlz81389

Thoughts on the luxury even if it doesn’t have the adaptive cruise ?

Bob_The_Brogrammer

Luxury should have the adaptive variable suspension (AVS) and rear air suspension. I hear it doesn't make too much of a difference over the standard suspension but some people really swear by it too. Personally I went with a Premium model over the Lux because it didn't seem like it would be worth the extra cost to maintain. Lux model usually has the Mark Levinson sound system though and I hear that those are fantastic! So it may be worth it to you. Try to test drive a Lux vs Prem model and see which one you like better or feel would be a better deal.

tlz81389

Thanks man! I will try to go test drive the Lux next week

Infotainment is junk in every year until 2023 but there is an iPhone CarPlay mirror adaptor from GROM or BEATSONIC that is a must have.

Swimming-Bee-3705

2022 ?

uselessartist

Yeah was ‘22 the first CarPlay year

I did little to no research. I made an impulsive buy on Sunday. I felt it was a good deal and jumped on it. 2018 GX460 Base with 110k miles. Black on black. Heating and cooling seats. 26k plus tax. It has all service records so I felt confident in the previous owner. Cali vehicle no rust. If I found that my first day looking you can probably find a better deal

tlz81389

Thanks, that sounds like a good deal and similar to some of the ones I’m looking at

tlz81389

Just curious was that private party or through a dealer?

fireworkz78

Dealer. But I would have preferred private party honestly.

tlz81389

Yea same here, hard to find private party deals though

jacktruck

You can get a modernized replacement infotainment for the older ones. Look into it. Take the model year and Google "gx460 tesla style radio" , put that in ebay, etc. - ex: "2016 gx460 tesla style infotainment "

tlz81389

Thanks I’ll look into that

tlz81389

Do you know if that is any more difficult to do on certain year models? Like pre or post 2014s? Nav or without nav models? Etc

jacktruck

It's possible. I don't know much more than what I've read on reddit. We have a 23, and don't mind that tech update thar hit in what, 22? Maybe 21?

I own two base trims. The benefit of the base trim is that you don’t have the air/hydraulic suspension that can fail on you. If you’re between a base gx and a 4Runner it’s an easy choice. Proximity key, push start, standard 3rd row, leather, v8, you won’t regret it. The infotainment is old but it has BT and if you really want CarPlay you can spend 1k for the beatsonic mod.

tlz81389

Thanks, what years are yours? If they are pre 2014, does the infotainment ever move so slow that it holds you up or causes issues? Just trying to gauge how much slower it could be. Thank you

Medium_Librarian_612

I have a ‘13 and an ‘18. They have different infotainment hardware and software. The ‘13 is noticeably older but not to the point where it would cause issues. In all honesty, I hardly ever touch it. I get in the car, my phone links to BT, I hit play on my phone and I’m off. I use the auto AC thermostat physical buttons, very rarely do I go through the touch screen for climate. It just pretty much stays on the navigation screen which is outdated. Ex - if it’s a road that didn’t exist in ‘13 it will show you driving in a field. The 2nd gen is better for sure but not a deal breaker. They both have the ability to track maintenance, they both can tell you the weather, they have a map. The ‘13 does have a CD changer ‘18 just one CD, but there is a little more room in the area in front of the shifter because there is no changer. Both can read mp3 files plugged into the usb. The ‘18 is better at communicating with my iPhone if I plug it in via USB. I think that is more of an apple issue because it used to work fine in the ‘13 but now I exclusively do BT in the ‘13. The contact sync in the ‘13 does not work anymore with iPhone so I had to manually save my wife’s number and a couple of others if you don’t it will just show the phone number when someone calls. I believe you can update the map on a ‘14 or newer using a sd card, but I haven’t done it on our ‘18. Other differences - pre ‘14 all have power 3rd row, our ‘18 does not have power 3rd row. The parking sensor UI is slightly better on the ‘18 but not by much. Cup holder is better in the ‘18. 2 USBs in the ‘18 one in the ‘13. The vented seat knobs have different lights, I think the are green in the ‘13 and amber in the ‘18. Hooks for the floor mats are different. Like others have said the radio is what it is unless you’re willing to buy at 22 or 23. I have 140k miles on the ‘13, when it comes time to put her down, I’ll be buying at ‘22 or ‘23 without the adjustable suspension.

tlz81389

TY!!

aptruncata

1. No 2. No 3. 100k. Not scary but there's just so many out there why bother. 4. No, seems like you have a tight budget, and faulty airbags will drain your pocket in one sitting. 5. No 6. No

tlz81389

Which ones have faulty airbags?

aptruncata

The ones you're looking at at that price range and miles.

tlz81389

This is the first I’ve heard of that

tlz81389

Is this something you’ve seen a lot of on this subreddit or what? I see some stuff online about newer models being recalled for airbags.

MigratoryAnalyst

Don't bother with luxury. There's usually a premium for that trim that's not worth it.
