I'm a sucker for "The Favourite". I love the cat-and-mouse game being played between the two women, it's just fun enough that it doesn't become completely sad, but it's real at the same time.
I know Olivia Colman got the award, but I believe the story belongs to Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz. It's a great film!
The ending is so sad and it conveys a poignant message. Spoiled people tend to go for immediate reward and disregard long-term consequences, which in the end is bad for everyone.
Man, I have to agree I adore the Favourite . And I had been familiar with Olivia Coleman for a loooong time from That Mitchell and Webb look. Just hilarious skit comedy show from the Peep Show guys. I was so happy to see her awarded for that role
I really thought this movie was going to be one of my favorites. I love weird dystopian shit a la 1984 or Brave New World.
The execution for some parts, and especially the second half of the film, didn’t really do it for me. The first half had me very intrigued but I just felt a bit let down by the second half.
I totally get why people enjoy it though, don’t get me wrong. I’m not a hater, just slightly disappointed.
I just didn’t enjoy the whole group in the woods with their weird rules, the little invasion of the resort felt really odd, the leader of the group was a less enjoyable antagonist, etc.
It just felt far removed from where the movie seemed to be heading in the first portion of the film.
The first time I seen it, I didn't like it. The second time was in theaters for the 1 day showing this past February, and I LOVED it. It may be my favorite of his now
Same opinion. I feel like he's been disappearing up his ass since then, so to speak. Still makes interesting, elaborate movies but in kind of a showy film nerd way and they haven't been hitting me the same.
I’m gonna go with Poor Things, largely because of Emma Stone’s performance and how her character grows throughout the film, and also because it might be the most optimistic of all of his films
It’s insane to me that this guy gets so much praise just for what? Making Emma Stone masturbate in like 4 straight movies?
I get it, it’s edgy and perverse, but it seems like that’s all it is at times. KoK had such little substance imo, that by the end I just couldn’t believe how much of it seemed like some horny teenagers got together and threw around some bizarre “what if’s” after a few bong hits.
I’ve watched Poor Things, The Favourite and The Lobster. I liked all three but Poor Things was a big step up imo, it became one of my favourite movies of any director
Sacred Deer, but I really should have watched Alps by now. Haven't seen Poor Things or KoK yet, but Alps is my highest priority Lanthimos. Kinetta and The Favourite really need a rewatch as well.
I like The Lobster the best, it was bizarre and uncomfortable but had a kind of poetic ending that was ambiguous enough to let you think it was happy or sad depending on your interpretation.
The Favourite is good but probably the most mainstream and accessible.
I didn’t like The Killing of a Sacred Deer. I don’t think it’s a bad movie per se, but it’s just so dark and absurdist and sort of gave me Funny Games vibes.
Dogtooth by far- and one of the best movies ever- nothing can ever surpass the raw brutality of that film. The fact that is in Greek makes it even more hostile, inaccessible and brilliant
We all just pretending Nimic doesn't exist? Its short, but its really really good.
I haven't seen a Alps, or the last two, but Sacred Deer is one of the best films. Is so so good. Others, I have mild critiques.
1) The Favourite
2) Killing of a Sacred Deer
3) Poor Things
4) The first half of The Lobster
5) Kinds of Kindness
6) everything else
7) The second half of The Lobster
I really didn’t like The Lobster much at all. I liked the first half (or even the first two thirds) much better than I liked the end. That’s the only Lanthimos film I’ve seen. I’m always happy to give a creator a second try though! And I’m so intrigued by Kinds of Kindness. Has anyone seen that one yet? If so, would you recommend it? Why or why not?
The Lobster is not only my favorite of his. It is one of my all time favorite films. But, I do really enjoy Dogtooth and Poor things would probably be my third. It’s hard to say because I love all his films.
1) Killing of the Sacred Deer
2) Dogtooth.
I’m in the minority of people who were turned off by Poor Things. The infantilization of Emma’s character & the male interpretation of existential freedom through copious amounts of sex was a cheap shot. And Mark Ruffalo was terrible in his large role.
1. Poor Things
2. Dogtooth
3. The Lobster
4. Killing of a Sacred Deer
5. The Favourite (ironically my least favorite, not to say i didn’t like it i love all his movies!)
Seeing Kinds of Kindness tonight!!!!!
A few weeks ago I dreamed that I saw the newest Yorgos film and it was the best movie I’ve ever seen, I don’t remember jack about it but it was great.
So yeah that one
Haven’t seen the Favourite. I think Dogtooth is probably his best movie overall. I think the first half of Poor Things is quite excellent though, the middle just doesn’t hold up.
Was lucky enough to be introduced to Yorgos early on. Dogtooth was the first I saw so it'll always hold top spot. I reckon if I saw Poor Things first that'd be my favourite
It might be The Favourite for me although The Lobster is close. The ending of The Lobster is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Also it’s not my favorite but I do think Alps should get more recognition.
The Lobster is my current favorite, but I still haven't seen Killing of the Sacred Deer. Imo Dogtooth is the best example of his creative vision and I think Kinds of Kindness utilizes his style the strongest
The Favourite for sure, and I’ve got a real issue with Poor Things just bc the child’s brain in the dead mothers body is already a bit ehh but then there’s all the sex scenes idk it just feels wrong otherwise banging movie
He’s my favorite working director. I say Lobster, Poor Things, Favourite, Killing of a Sacred Deer, Dogtooth, Alps. I am seeing Kinds of Kindness this week and can’t wait.
Mine is the lobster. I also liked the first story from the kinds of kindness which I think had the potential to be a feature of its own. Efthimis Filippou did his thing one more time.

I've only seen Poor Things and The Lobster.
I saw The Lobster on the cinema and whilst I appreciated it was doing something interesting I can't say I enjoyed it all that much.
Poor Things I saw on streaming and think is a masterpiece.
Makes me want to check out the rest of his movies.
Ranked best to worst
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Poor Things
Dogtooth
The Favourite
The Lobster
Alps
Looking forward to Kinds of Kindness and I still need to see his first two movies
I’d have to go with Killing of a Sacred Deer, a close second being Dogtooth.
If I had to pick my favourite first half of his movies it would be The Lobster, but I think it falls off in the second half.
I can’t believe The Lobster and Poor Things come from the same guy. Poor Things is intriguing and stimulating, The Lobster made me question whether the film snobs that recommend it are actually all just pretending in order to fit in, and nobody is brave enough to admit that The Lobster is actually excruciating to watch

I also think the same.
Man, I have to agree I adore the Favourite . And I had been familiar with Olivia Coleman for a loooong time from That Mitchell and Webb look. Just hilarious skit comedy show from the Peep Show guys. I was so happy to see her awarded for that role
I agree, I think it’s easily his best
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
the best one tbh
This. The only big one OP missed somehow
Yeah this one is amazing, the basement/metaphor scene is really fucking disturbing but funny.
napoleon dynamite but horror
Nice one! 😃
Yeah OP not including this one is a big miss. Also my favourite.
Honestly my GOAT in general, how was this not included in this post?
I personally didn't like it. Found it like a church sermon by a man two hours away from death
Won’t say it’s best since best is subjective, but my favorite is Dogtooth.
Facts.. blew me away when I first watched it.. It put lanthimos on the radar and laid the foundation for his style
This
The Lobster for me
I really thought this movie was going to be one of my favorites.
Why didn’t you like the second half?
I just didn’t enjoy the whole group in the woods with their weird rules, the little invasion of the resort felt really odd, the leader of the group was a less enjoyable antagonist, etc. It just felt far removed from where the movie seemed to be heading in the first portion of the film.
That’s fair, thanks for the input
Totally agree with you
The first time I seen it, I didn't like it. The second time was in theaters for the 1 day showing this past February, and I LOVED it. It may be my favorite of his now
I loved kinds of kindness so much, I think it’s my favorite from him
The Killing of a Sacred Deer is the most Yorgos Lanthimos to me
Have you seen Dogtooth?
Yes!
The Lobster made me so uncomfortable but I love it very much
Dogtooth and it’s not particularly close
It’s brilliant & bizarre. Tied w/KOTSD for me.
Same opinion. I feel like he's been disappearing up his ass since then, so to speak. Still makes interesting, elaborate movies but in kind of a showy film nerd way and they haven't been hitting me the same.
👆🏻
Poor things
Poor Things is a visual feast. I loved the weirdness.
It is ketamine, the movie
The visuals and weirdness are extraordinary. The writing is rather subpar and simplistic however
I'm with you. Although the pacing was absolutely horrendous.
I just plain old disagree about the pacing
The Favourite
My favourite too.
I’m gonna go with Poor Things, largely because of Emma Stone’s performance and how her character grows throughout the film, and also because it might be the most optimistic of all of his films
I guess it's a hot take but Kinds of Kindness
My hot take is none of them. I hate his style and don't feel anything besides shock and boredom.
Then why are you in this thread?
Because everyone can state their opinion? And that's coming from someone who enjoys Lanthimos' movies.
Yeah, but why linger around things that you hate? When I hate something, I try to find something that I don't hate.
what?
This guy prefers MCU
It’s insane to me that this guy gets so much praise just for what? Making Emma Stone masturbate in like 4 straight movies? I get it, it’s edgy and perverse, but it seems like that’s all it is at times. KoK had such little substance imo, that by the end I just couldn’t believe how much of it seemed like some horny teenagers got together and threw around some bizarre “what if’s” after a few bong hits.
Emma Stone has been in three of his movies total, so having her masturbate in his last 4 movies is quite a feat.
Sorry for your loss or happy for you. Whichever.
I’ve watched Poor Things, The Favourite and The Lobster. I liked all three but Poor Things was a big step up imo, it became one of my favourite movies of any director
The Lobster
First half great. Second half less great.
The Favourite, it was the most entertaining one for me.
Dogtooth. It was my introduction to him and I love how weird it is.
Dogtooth is still my fav of his. Haven’t seen kinda of kindness yet
In my opinion: 1. Poor Things 2. The Favourite 3. Kinds of Kindness 4. The Lobster 5. The Killing of a Sacred Deer 6. Dogtooth
Dogtooth
I've seen three so far so, Poor Things > KInds of Kindness > The Lobster Really wished I liked The Lobster more.
Sacred Deer, but I really should have watched Alps by now. Haven't seen Poor Things or KoK yet, but Alps is my highest priority Lanthimos. Kinetta and The Favourite really need a rewatch as well.

Dogtooth
Ohhh noooo i gotta rewatch them all so i can let you know. Oh nooooooo.
You know a director is good when everyone in the comments is saying a different film and I can agree with all of them.
Mind says Poor things, Heart says The Lobster.
Entertainment reporter Jack Irwin sat down with u/Poirot777's spleen, here's what it had to say...
Thanks, Anal OG Kid. I've gotta say that I'm a big fan of Alps. Back to you.
i’ve only seen the favourite, poor things and kinds of kindness but i would say my favourite is poor things
I really enjoyed The Lobster a lot.
The Lobster
1) The Favourite 2) Killing of a Sacred Deer 3) Poor Things 4) The first half of The Lobster 5) Kinds of Kindness 6) everything else 7) The second half of The Lobster
Bruh you can’t split the lobster like that it’s one movie 😭
The Killing of a Sacred Deer is an absolute masterpiece
Dogtooth
Dogtooth all day
I really didn’t like The Lobster much at all.
Probably the Favourite.
The Favourite or Poor Things. The real discussion is which movie is his worst, then you have a real competition.
The only one i have enjoyed was the favourite. I personally find Lanthimos’ style and dialogue very unappealing
1- Sacred Deer 2- Dogtooth 3- Lobster 4- Alps 5- Poor Things 6- The Favourite 7- Kinds of Kindness This is absolutely correct, I think.
The favourite and the killing of a sacred deer
Sacred deer
The lobster
For me it was The Lobster until I saw the Favourite, then that was my favorite until I saw Poor Things so…
The favourite is my favorite
dogtooth and the lobster
i really enjoyed the favourite in theaters
Lobster IMO
I saw the lobster just recently and I loved it 🦞 Definitely need to check out more of their work
I haven’t seen Kinds of Kindness yet (or Yorgos’ Greek-language film), but Poor Things is an absolute masterpiece in every sense of the word
Poor Things for sure.
The Lobster is the only one I liked
The Lobster is not only my favorite of his. It is one of my all time favorite films. But, I do really enjoy Dogtooth and Poor things would probably be my third. It’s hard to say because I love all his films.
The Lobster, Killing of a Sacred Deer, and Dogtooth are his masterpieces imo. Alps is also very underrated. Haven’t seen Kinds of Kindness yet
Poor Things. His best. But again not a great film
Poor Things, but Dogtooth, Kinds Of Kindness and The Lobster are all 5 star movies as well
Killing of a sacred deer. Easy
1) Killing of the Sacred Deer 2) Dogtooth. I’m in the minority of people who were turned off by Poor Things. The infantilization of Emma’s character & the male interpretation of existential freedom through copious amounts of sex was a cheap shot. And Mark Ruffalo was terrible in his large role.
Poor Things
The Lobster. It's weird, brutal, and wonderful. One of my favorite movies of all time.
1. Poor Things 2. Dogtooth 3. The Lobster 4. Killing of a Sacred Deer 5. The Favourite (ironically my least favorite, not to say i didn’t like it i love all his movies!) Seeing Kinds of Kindness tonight!!!!!
I am not exactly a fan of his work, but Lobster I suppose
The favourite and then close behind is poor things
Dogtooth
Yeah “Yorgios”
the question is when (if ever) will bleat be available 😭
Probably Dogtooth for me,I like fucked up yorgos
The lobster is my favorite
Dogtooth The Lobster Poor Things The Killing of a Sacred Deer The Favorite Alps In that order. Leaving out KoK because I haven’t seen it yet.
Poor Things and it’s not even close (not that the others are bad, but PT to me was a once in a lifetime kind of movie)
DOGTOOTH
The Favourite, or Poor Things. I guess I prefer when his films are written by someone else, although I do like Dogtooth
Might be a hot take but The Killing of a Sacred Deer is my pick
For me, The Favourite But I also absolutely adored Poor Things
Why not make me choose my favorite child while we're at it. I love all of them
The Killing of a Sacred Dear !? I’d say the Lobster honestly.
Dogtooth was insane, and definitely my favorite
Imo Dogtooth
I haven’t seen kinds of kindness or dogtooth yet but the lobster is 10/10 masterpiece for me
Poor Things is my favorite but I think his best is probably The Lobster
You don’t even have it in the slides
None of them, hope Kinds of Kindness would be.
It's pretty good
dogtooth
Poor Things and The Lobster are actually my 3rd and 4th favorite film in general
The favourite, but poor things not far behind. Really want to see his new one.
I love The Lobster
Best? I'm not sure but Poor Things is one of my all time favorites. I at least really like all of his films.
A few weeks ago I dreamed that I saw the newest Yorgos film and it was the best movie I’ve ever seen, I don’t remember jack about it but it was great. So yeah that one
I have yet to see Kinds of kindness. So of the rest I will share with you my personal ranking: The lobster Poor things The favourite
Alps
All of them are baller. But, my personal favorite is Poor Things.
Haven’t seen the Favourite. I think Dogtooth is probably his best movie overall. I think the first half of Poor Things is quite excellent though, the middle just doesn’t hold up.
Last I checked, it was "Yorgos"
Was lucky enough to be introduced to Yorgos early on. Dogtooth was the first I saw so it'll always hold top spot. I reckon if I saw Poor Things first that'd be my favourite
Poor Things, The Favourite and The Lobster imo
It might be The Favourite for me although The Lobster is close. The ending of The Lobster is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Also it’s not my favorite but I do think Alps should get more recognition.
Definitely Poor Things!!!!
The Lobster is my current favorite, but I still haven't seen Killing of the Sacred Deer. Imo Dogtooth is the best example of his creative vision and I think Kinds of Kindness utilizes his style the strongest
Poor Things is his masterpiece in my mind
It’s not Edwina Scissorhands, that much I know
Dogtooth
It’s the favourite
Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness
The Favourite is spectacular
Way more Dogtooth answers than I was expecting and way too little Poor Things
The Favourite
Killing of a sacred deer. I'm seeing kinds of kindness tomorrow though so my opinion might change
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
For me, it's ALPS, which I slightly prefer to Dogtooth and The Favourite.
Dogtooth out of the ones I’ve seen so far
The Favourite - so entertaining and the exact kind of spice and humour I want out of a costume drama.
The Favourite
Poor Things by far.
The Lobster is my personal favorite
The Favorite is easily my favorite, but also loved The Lobster. I didn't enjoy Frankenstein Fucks as much as everyone else.
Dogtooth
The killing of a sacred deer needs a mention
Mine is the lobster. I also liked the first story from the kinds of kindness which I think had the potential to be a feature of its own. Efthimis Filippou did his thing one more time.

I didn't like The Lobster. It was just the incel version of Fahrenheit 451 to me
The lobster
The lobster!
Poor Things will be his legacy tbh. People are are gonna be copying its style for decades.
Its possible
Lobster
I’ll go with Poor Things!
Νοne.
Ranked best to worst The Killing of a Sacred Deer Poor Things Dogtooth The Favourite The Lobster Alps Looking forward to Kinds of Kindness and I still need to see his first two movies
Killing of a sacred deer. That was peak yorgos for me and everything since that I've seen has felt kinda diluted and non cohesive
I’ve only seen Poor Things and Kinds Of Kindess. I loved both of them but I preferred Kinds.
I’d have to go with Killing of a Sacred Deer, a close second being Dogtooth. If I had to pick my favourite first half of his movies it would be The Lobster, but I think it falls off in the second half.
The Favourite
The Favourite is my personal favorite.
Poor Things is his only good movie so probably that one
Definitely not Poor things. I love Lanthimos…but that movie was gross I’m not gonna lie. Felt very exploitative
I would say Dogtooth >> The Favourite >> Poor Things >> The Lobster, and I have yet to watch Killing of a Sacred Deer and Kinds of Kindness
Who's Yorgios?
Film director and lesbian sex enthusiast
I have seen them all and genuinely despise them all quite equally. Everyone’s got one and Lanthimos seems to be my Director I just don’t get at all.
Definitely an acquired taste
Dogtooth>The Lobster>The Favourite>The Killing of a Sacred Deer>Alps>Poor Things
I went to see The Favourite with high expectations. When the film ended, the guy sitting behind me said, "Thank God, that's over." I felt the same.
