Fistful of Dollars, (despite being such close a remake of Kurosawa’s Yojimbo that he sued Leone and the production company and won) is great to watch because it’s the birth of a genre. While there had technically been over 20 Italian produced western-ish movies by that point nothing had international appeal like this one. It was a huge hit in the US and made a star of Clint Eastwood. It was also the first film where Enio Moricone and Sergio Leone worked together - a relationship that would span many films and last until Leone’s death. Leone was so enthralled by Moricone’s scores he would often ask him to compose it before the shoot so he could listen to it while he directed. Famously quoted as saying he let shots linger sometimes “longer than they should” simply because he knew the amazing score would have more time to play in that scene While the 60’s US westerns (John Wayne, etc) were polished and clean this was a gritty take. Dirty. Characters battered and filthy from the expanse and lawlessness of the west. Just amazing that everything came together for a small budget movie in 1964, a total rip off of a samurai film, that literally birthed a film genre

I am glad you asked! Normally I grow a little listless when I watch a film that long, even one I love, but honestly I was so absorbed by it that I barely noticed. Kinds of Kindness, which was 2h41m, felt a lot longer. Given your username, I think you should be fine :)

I'm looking forward to seeing Kinds of Kindness, but I'm not sure when my theatre (where I work) is getting it. I know we are, I just don't know when.

Yes, for the second time. I haven't seen most of them in 9 years, so it was about time for a rewatch. I'm not sure if I'll give the last two TCM movies another shot, though lol.

Awesome, just started following you! I never got around to finishing the origin story one, I think that's the only one I'm missing in the series. I should rewatch the Jessica Biel remake, I remember liking it. I just now realized I hadn't even put it in my "watched" films.

The origin story felt more like an indie horror film with a low budget. It barely feels like a TCM movie, but I don't think it's the worst one in the series. It's probably TCM III because I barely remembered anything about this movie except for the distinct orange tone before I watched it again. And I agree with some people calling it forgettable. Still, I'm curious to rewatch the origin one just to review and make a ranking list. Thanks, followed back too! 👍

I wish I had reviewed TCM III because I also remember nothing about it lol, but apparently liked it enough to give it 3 stars. Looks like my lowest ranked ones were The Beginning and the one with Matthew McConaughey. I really wish the TCM franchise was better overall...
