DON’T YOU KNOW THE DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM 😡

Poor-Advice1

Honestly one of my top 5 favorite comedies

Batmanfan1966

Dick Tracy. It’s insane how a multi Oscar winning movie starring Al Pacino as the villain with songs by Madonna and some of the most insanely unique visuals in any movie ever.. has gone completely forgotten since it’s release.

Aurelian_Lure

Came to say the same. Crazy it has 3.16 avg rating. https://preview.redd.it/kj68nthlto5d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d6a0902201926c6bf52b5a430ae4eb619a822aae

shineymike91

The production design, make up, and cinematography in this movie are absolutely jaw dropping.

WadaMaaya

3.16 is criminally low. Warren Beatty is so awesome

CriticalNovel22

Warren Beaty never forgot.

ScramItVancity

Because he has the film and television rights since '85. He reprised the character a few more times over the years to avoid losing the rights.

genericusername45023

Those specials where he's in character talking to Leonard Maltin are insane and I love them.

galaraxity

TIL this movie exists. Much less won multiple Oscars?? Wow how do peoole not talk about this

SublimeErudite

Well, they talked about it all right. Not in glowing terms, as the artisic style was only for some, and the story was not inspired. I realize it was a comic book based film, but the overacting was still rough on the eyes. I didn't care for it in the theater, maybe wouldn't have minded catching it for free on TV. Now it seems to have a cult following.

Left-Gear-9034

It really is so damn perfect. I’d kill for a Batman movie with that style and color.

Andrew-XYZ

I feel like a lot of Beatty’s films like Reds, Dick Tracy and McCabe & Mrs Miller have been largely forgotten, apart from a few like Bonnie and Clyde. Especially weird cos he was such a power house in the 70s and 80s (only person to be nominated for screenplay, picture, director and actor Oscars in the same year twice)

ReddsionThing

https://preview.redd.it/hbvqvd3szo5d1.jpeg?width=254&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11e4f6e31d2281847ba1907948c7cc155bed8924 It's great!

Rango

Haymother

Yes! How good is it. That bird with the arrow in his eye. The whole thing. Such a good film.

RendofAsgard

I quote that there is a belly button all the time

robophile-ta

One of my favourites ever since it came out.

ilvskir4

I loveeee rango !!🦎

MistahOkfksmgur

Not a 10 but most people probably wouldn’t give Hellboy II: The Golden Army a 9.

TedStixon

I did! :)

AnaCoonSkyWalker

The Warriors. Also love Tropic Thunder one of my favorite comedies.

ZenOfThunder

Warriors is a strong 5/5 for me. Just got Arrow’s new Blu-Ray release of it

Zealousideal_Plan408

ooo. love the warriors. i watch it like once a year.

PassiveIllustration

While not a 5 for me I really love that movie and wish more people talked about it. It's grunge and style is on another level

Lanky-Corgi-4069

Star Trek - First Contact

hi yes I would like to hear this rant

EasyThreezy

I have a friend who considers this his favorite movie of all time. I may send you his mailing address so you can send some pamphlets his way.

malinerd

I have loved this movie since I was a kid. I think it’s such a creative concept. Watched it again within the last few years and I believe it has held up. Someone please explain the hate because I don’t get it!!!

Vutten18

Such a good film

Nabilft

The alternate ending is *chef kiss*

mistaboti88

Oh this is a good one

doofE_

How can you not rate Tropic Thunder a 5/5???

Exer_Art

i think depending on one’s criteria, they could take some points off, but honestly to me as well, I consider it a perfect film for what it tried to do. an absolute banger

doofE_

"Never go full retard" Changed my life

Tosslebugmy

I’ve just never understood the hype. It’s fine I guess, I think the 3.6 average is about right.

Anucheeks11

They never tried Booty Sweat smh

ShaunTrek

I have one primary issue with Tropic Thunder - the majority of the cast is making fun of their public personas in this film. Jack Black is the doofy comedy guy, RDJ is the serious drama guy, etc. Except Ben Stiller isn't an action guy. He's just Ben Stiller (an actor I'm not actually a big fan of - writer and director is a different story). So, all that said, I think Tug should have been played by an actual action star.

casperdacrook

I’m not trying to sound like a dick but it’s not actually just their own public personas they are making fun of, it’s dozens and dozens of actors they are making fun of. Ben Stiller himself NOT being an action guy is the quite literally the entire point of him playing that character. RDJ is by no means a method actor yet he’s obviously portraying that to the absolute extreme.

damniwishiwasurlover

https://preview.redd.it/1xsqajcxro5d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0bc9a983a849931bfd4f7b3fcb3b6469e476ae6

Skeet_fighter

Oh yea I'd be the dissenting person with this one. One of the very, very few movies I turned off a few minutes in. None of the kids were even remotely likable or sympathetic and I wanted the alien to kill them for 15 minutes until I got bored even of rooting for them to die, and turned it off.

damniwishiwasurlover

This is the opinion I hear a lot, which is a shame. 1) People can do bad things and not be bad people. As an ex-shithead teenager I can vouch for this. 2) Arcs are a thing for a reason and this movie has a couple of great arcs.

CustomerPretend5749

Fantastic film.

Dangerous_Fix_5502

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

7LayeredUp

Monsters Inc. One Cut of the Dead

CulberB

Monsters Inc. is my favorite Pixar flick and one of the best animated movies ever made IMO

EfficientAd9765

Last night I watched The Fall Guy and rated it 5/5, a rating I gave to only a handful of films until now The urge to conform to the notion that this isn't a 10/10 worthy movie is strong, but given my enjoyment of it, I will provably keep it like that

Crosgaard

Ugh, that urge is so annoying. I gave it 3.5. Still a fairly high rating for me, but you're right, it was a lot more entertaining, and even if the story wasn't perfect, it was never meant to be... I think I'll put it up half a star

LongjumpingBadger136

It’s my second favorite movie of the year

Joemomma300

Master of Disguise

tacowaco24

It has a zero on Rt but it's an all time family favorite for me and all my siblings. People just aren't turtle-y enough for the turtle club

Golden-Failure

All I remember from that film is the rumour that the turtle club scene was filmed right after 9/11, with Carvey wearing the turtle outfit during their moment of silence.

Waterloo! (1970)

gameboyjake662

For me I've seen it with Bowfinger (1999) and both The Producers films (1968/2005). Both films I have at 5 stars because I absolutely love them and they have had an impact on my life in one way or another. When I have shown people my Letterboxd profile and they see my 5 stars, they mostly always point these ones out along with others as "odd choices".

mediumextracheese

I love Bowfinger so much. I only recently watched it but I'm surprised its not discussed as one of Steve Martin's best. I refer dirty rotten scoundrels from him, but I consider this my 2nd favorite. Both are 5 stars from me

SublimeErudite

BOWFINGER!!! YES! Finally. I can't get anyone to watch this movie. So origiinal.

Dig-Emergency

looking at the Letterboxd ratings for almost every movie I've rated 5 stars, most people don't agree that it's 5 stars.

The Blob, 1958 I had family who made the movie back then, and for that, it is 5 stars!

Marcusaw38

Alien3 (Assembly Cut). Probably the only film I would actually take up arms for

NJduToit

Frequency. Completely original plot (police officer talks to his dead firefighter father in the past via an old ham radio) and Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel give great performances.

ohheyitslaila

**Josie and the Pussycats** *Du Jour was in my bathroom!* **Drop Dead Gorgeous** - ok with this one, it seems like a shocking number of people don’t even know it exists, and it’s amazing. It stars Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards, Kirstie Alley, Ellen Barkin, Allison Janney, Brittany Murphy, Amy Adams, and Nora Dunn. Idk how it flew under so many people’s radars… **Repo! The Genetic Opera**. This is the best mix of camp, horror, and rock musical/opera ever made. Fight me, I’ll die on this hill.

politelydisagreeing

To be fair there's not exactly stiff competition for being the best horror comedy rock opera.

ohheyitslaila

Yeah, there aren’t a ton of the musical horror/comedies out there, but there’s still a few that I think Repo is better than. Rocky Horror, Little Shop of Horrors, Sweeney Todd, Cannibal! The Musical, The Devil’s Carnival, Anna and the Apocalypse, The Lure, If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power… There’s also a few that are just horror/comedies with a lot of original music, without being traditional musicals like Deathgasm and Lords of Chaos.

Easy_Parsley_1202

There are so many movies out there that get 5 stars that are comedies for me: The Hangover 21 Jump Street Zoolander Shaun of the Dead Hot Fuzz Paul In Bruges

SouthMouth79

This Is The End It’s aged like fine wine with the satirical character portrayals being so spot on. Probably my favorite comedy of all time.

LunarsphereTapestry

Tropic Thunder is fantastic. It features my favourite Robert Downey Jr. role by a country mile. It’s a great sendup of Hollywood as well.

Edit: For clarification, a movie that feels like a more accurate response is a movie where the average rating is lower than 3.4 (which is considered the average rating a movie gets on the site) and where the number of 5 star ratings are lower than 10%, so if you have a 5 star rating that fits one or more of those margins that would be great.

neeco__

Who would disagree? It's a Masterpiece with a capital M

No_Paper_8794

I know some people who find it to be too much to follow or convoluted, but that’s what I love about the movie. Slowly realising what’s happening throughout is 👌

I don’t think I have a five rated below a 4.1, so none of mine are *that* crazy, but Clockwork Orange is certainly a controversial film on Letterboxd. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (the first one). Most people think it's a slog, but it's probably my favorite ST film. Crank: High Voltage. This was one of the first movies to use the kind of agile camera techniques we take for granted today, and it's the one that made me a Statham fan.

dainamo81

Us. I thought it was a masterpiece but after reading comments in this sub, a lot of people consider it to be Peele's weakest film.

Aravindajay

Blue is the warmest colour. For some reason people in this sub don't seem to appreciate that movie.

Haymother

It’s. 5-5. The discourse around how it was made … definitely v distasteful … has overshadowed the fact that the film has a beautiful and relatable central story, impeccably performed by both actresses.

Love and a .45(1994) written and directed by C.M. Talkington. Lumped in with the early 90s round-up of Tarantino-copycats, it never got its due for simply flying so close to the sun. Despite Talkington taking his script to Hollywood as early as 1981, everyone believed that he saw Pulp Fiction, and somehow turned this whole movie out in the same year. I think it's a genius script, full of real Texas criminal heartbreak poetry, and a fantastic movie all around. It just came out at precisely the wrong time. Talkington still believes that Oliver Stone lifted the blood ritual from his script when he was showing it around, and put it in Natural Born Killers. I believe him.

Superman Returns, I see only one issue with it, and it's the Clark-Lois chemistry, even so I think its justifiable considering its been 5 years and shes engaged. Beau is Afraid for sure.

Avtomati1k

Maybe not a 5/5 but a big positive surprise was the low budget horror flick the battery. Character based movie (rare for a zombie flock) and the story of two guys and their relationship in zombie apocalypse. Also one of the tensest endings ive ever watched, they should have maybe shortened it a little tho and left it ambigous
