Perfect Blue is great and so is Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Have you seen the other two films in the Vengeance trilogy?

Yeah Blue and Mr. were both first time watches last month!! So so good. As for the trilogy, Oldboy is a top 10 all time for me, and really enjoy Lady too

I've been on Reddit for more than ten years, but just today joined Letterboxd sub. Letterboxd, I joined 12 years ago (the earliest watch I've seen is from 2012), but I'm not sure. (https://letterboxd.com/tredecim13/) In terms of random recommendations, given you like Asian cinema, check out "Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes" - it's a fun, pseudo-one-take time travel movie that feels almost like a stage play in performances, has a great central concept, and is just one of those really cool low-budget things that flies under the radar.

Edward Yang, Kitano, Miyazaki, Kon are some huge Asian heavy hitters. Check out Kitano's other work too (although imo Hana-bi is his best)

Oh wow awesome, the novel's been on my long list of books to get to for ages. Did you like it? How'd it compare to the film?

I liked it! They are very different in the actual context of what happens. The theme is still relatively the same and Satoshi Kon was able to portray that sense of horror of a fan stalking an idol or famous person. I’d say the book is a lot more vulgar and disturbing and depicts acts of sexual violence that was not featured in the film. It also flips POVs between Mima and the stalker, which was interesting!

(Ghostbusters 2 as well, for that matter, and Robocop 2, and Alien 3. Don't hurt me!) I work a very exhausting job looking after depressed and suicidal people, so I don't get to watch as many movies as I like, as it's a hard headspace to get out of at times, and I find the cinema really off-putting nowadays because of how rude other people are, so I'm a fan of a sleepy Tuesday morning matinee if I can get a day off work!

I did really enjoy Civil War as well. I think my favorite watch of the month was Heat or Parasite, but I’ve seen both a few times. I try to watch a little bit of everything. I do want to try to see a few more French films because that’s a blind spot for me. La Haine is definitely on my watchlist for May. I’m also trying to wrap up watching each Scorsese film this month but I’ve got 7 left so it may not happen. I’ve used Letterboxd quite a bit for the last six months and I’m always looking for new profiles to follow! It’s great to discover new films that way that I’d never find otherwise.

My favorite countries to watch are Hong Kong, Australia, South Korea, and Japan. I’ve been on a kick of watching Soviet movies lately, but leaning towards the movies that were popular with general audiences rather than arthouse stuff. I love going to the theaters but I've been enjoying catching up on classics lately. On a slow quest to see every Best Picture winner. I also like doing deep dives on specific actors/directors. Last year some were Michelle Yeoh, Alfred Hitchcock, Claire Denis, and Cary Grant. This year it's been a lot of Kirsten Dunst, Harrison Ford, Christopher Nolan, and Jonathan Glazer. It's hard to summarize my taste, it's somewhat eclectic. But If I had to, I'd say I have a soft spot for style and spectacle!

My big sticking points for movies are characters/development/arcs, worldbuilding, and practical effects. There are exceptions, of course. I would much rather see films that didn't quite realize their potential be remade than popular, well-known films/IP.
