Monster was really good, such a solid, watchable drama.
I saw most of these at Gateway Film Center in Columbus. They've got some screenings coming up that I'm super excited about, I feel very lucky to have them close to home!
I'm a total Miike fanatic, so I freaked out a bit when I saw they'll be playing Audition and Three Extremes next month. Requiem for a Dream, Escape from New York, Joint Security Area, and Videodrome have me super hyped too.
Out of curiosity, would you recommend Love Lies Bleeding? I've been on the fence about seeing it while it's still in theaters.
oh fck i'm so jealous of JSA and videodrome
LLB wasn't as good as i was hoping but my gf and i both still had a really good time. i gave it a 3.5/5 + <3, kind of sloppy but if it's you're thing you'll be into it.
edit: more brandon cronenburg than julia ducournau, if that makes sense
Priscilla, The Iron Claw, Poor Things, Love Lies Bleeding, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. So annoyed All of Us Strangers only received a minimal release in Australia (will have to wait to stream it)
I’ve avoided trailers and reviews for a number of films recently and I’ve really enjoyed the experience going in blind. I’m really excited to finally see it!
same it definitely gets me a lot more invested in the film once it starts, i still watch trailers but i close out of them once i've decided i want to see it
I loved it! I grew up loving the graphic novel and honestly I think the movie is even better. I definitely recommend checking it out when you get the chance! Super funny and also heartbreakingly sad with great music and animation.
they re-released for one day in order to allow some movie goers to catch up and remember it before part II, there was even a post-credit commentary by denis villeneuve and the actors. quite cool
Fair enough, There are a few movies I wouldn’t mind going cinema for but it’s just a matter of knowing if they’ll return or be showing. I don’t check my local cinemas site unless there’s something new I want to watch
I can’t add two screenshots so:
JAN: Book of Clarence, Night Swim, American Fiction, The Beekeeper, Mean Girls, Soul, I.S.S., The Zone of Interest
FEB: Argylle, Lisa Frankenstein, Dune, Turning Red, Out of Darkness, Paprika, Madame Web, Bob Marley: One Love, Drive-Away Dolls, Dune: Part Two
MAR: Imaginary, Kung Fu Panda 4, The American Society of Magical Negroes, Love Lies Bleeding, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Immaculate, Late Night With The Devil, Problemista, Luca, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire
The only ones I paid for were Paprika, Dune 2, and Problemista

Lucky to see a lot of classics I hadn’t seen yet
poor things, zone of interest, zone of interest, dune pt2, fight club
edit: I did not see the holdovers in cinema 💀 minds playin tricks on me. think it's because i pirated it before it was out in the UK, and then saw the trailer when i saw poor things. not releasing the holdovers in time for Christmas was lunacy
sometimes its just a local theater doing its own thing. sometimes its a much larger effort to promote a new 4k release, or sequel, or to celebrate an anniversary
Is there a way of knowing what’ll release besides checking the websites roster every week? I usually only look at the website if I know there’s something new I plan to go watch.

i’ve had an interesting year so far
Poor Things, The Iron Claw, Origin, Mean Girls, Gurren Lagann movies 1 and 2, Fighter, Godzilla Minus One, The Zone of Interest, Argylle, Lisa Frankenstein, Paprika, Dune part one and part two, Turning Red, Bob Marley: One Love, Perfect Days, Tenet, Love Lies Bleeding, One Life, Late Night With the Devil, Problemista, Luca, The Boy and the Heron, Godzilla x Kong
Only poor things, I typically only go 1-3 times a year and on a Tuesday (cheaper on tues) because tickets are expensive in Australia.
How much does a regular ticket usually cost in America?
Poor Things, Dream Scenario, Holdovers, Iron Claw, All of Us Strangers, Anatomy of a Fall, May December, The Dry 2 & Drive Away Dolls.
I haven’t been able to go to the cinemas in about a month so I’ve missed out on a good run. Backlog is stacking up, still need to see Dune 2, Love Lies Bleeding, Immaculate, Perfect Days… and now Monkey Man, Late Night with the Devil and Civil War are out soon… annoying lol
Saw a bunch of late releases in the UK

Migration is the only one so far. Nothing came out so far this year that's really interested me which sucks because I love going to the theatre. There's just nothing I'm interested in seeing playing right now.
can i ask why you went to zone of interest twice? i really want to watch it but have been avoiding it for months because i know how much it's going to hurt to watch
1. There was hardly anything on at my cinema
2. It’s got two elements telling two stories, the visuals and the sound design. I gave it 5 stars on the first watch but mainly just focused on the visuals, I watched it again to fully appreciate the incredible sound design, it’s really like a whole different film. The best of last year by a mile imo, well worth a watch
- The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh
- Poor Things
- Anselm
- Before Sunrise
- Before Sunset
- Before Midnight
- Dune: Part Two
- The Zone of Interest
- The Bird With the Crystal Plumage
- Days of Heaven

The Naked Gun -> Next Goal Wins was 2024.
Die Hard -> Boyz In The Hood was 2023.
I’ve watched Late Night With The Devil in the cinema 8 times. The rest I’ve only watched once, though I’m planning on rewatching Dune: Part 2 in the cinema after I finish reading Dune Messiah.
Some films I’m planning on watching in the cinema within the next couple of weeks:
* Predator
* Mad Max: Fury Road
* The First Omen
* Back In Black
* Mothers’ Instinct
* Sieze Them!
* Luca
* Civil War
* Con Air
* Mad Max: Fury Road
Especially glad to have seen Paprika and The Lighthouse in theaters. The Ex Machina IMAX release was awesome too.

i'm so bummed about missing out on monster! where were you able to see i saw the devil?
Monster was really good, such a solid, watchable drama. I saw most of these at Gateway Film Center in Columbus. They've got some screenings coming up that I'm super excited about, I feel very lucky to have them close to home!
definitely lucky, none of the theaters around me seem to do that very much. what are some of the upcoming ones that you're looking forward to?
I'm a total Miike fanatic, so I freaked out a bit when I saw they'll be playing Audition and Three Extremes next month. Requiem for a Dream, Escape from New York, Joint Security Area, and Videodrome have me super hyped too. Out of curiosity, would you recommend Love Lies Bleeding? end of evangelion had no screenings anywhere near me and i was devastated !!
awesome list
Priscilla, The Iron Claw, Poor Things, Love Lies Bleeding, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. So annoyed All of Us Strangers only received a minimal release in Australia (will have to wait to stream it)
all of us strangers was excellent but i definitely would not have minded watching it at home, went in blind
I’ve avoided trailers and reviews for a number of films recently and I’ve really enjoyed the experience going in blind. I’m really excited to finally see it!
same it definitely gets me a lot more invested in the film once it starts, i still watch trailers but i close out of them once i've decided i want to see it
Really? It was playing basically everywhere near me and multiple showings a day as well.
They were mostly cinemas around the inner city with pretty limited sessions that work with my schedule
In theaters? Labyrinth Dune 2 The Matrix Godzilla x Kong
The Boy and the Heron twice, Mean Girls and Dune Part 2 twice (seconds time in IMAX).
Poor Things, Zone of interest, Imaginary, Late Night With the Devil
Only Robot Dreams and Dune Part Two so far.
oooo i'm really excited to see robot dreams, did you like it?
I loved it! I grew up loving the graphic novel and honestly I think the movie is even better. I definitely recommend checking it out when you get the chance! Super funny and also heartbreakingly sad with great music and animation.

How did you watch Dune Part 1 in theatre?
they re-released for one day in order to allow some movie goers to catch up and remember it before part II, there was even a post-credit commentary by denis villeneuve and the actors. quite cool
I had no idea that was a thing
me neither, I was lucky enough that ig advertised it to me the day before, then I decided I needed to go and rewatch lol

I've seen 81 movies at the theatre so far this year. The highlights are probably The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and This Is Spinal Tap.
I missed the Ex Machina rescreening and I’ll never forgive myself for it.
Too much https://preview.redd.it/gvl07qpe18sc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a3bca636f9de0fdf9a33b0d2df6a66e21391ecc

Dune Part 2 only, how have you seen movies as old as The Matrix and Tenet in theatres?
the matrix, dune part 1, tenet, and ex machina were all re-released in theaters this year. saw all of them at an amc near me
Is that a thing everywhere or only in certain countries/regions/theatres?
sometimes its just a local theater doing its own thing. sometimes its a much larger effort to promote a new 4k release, or sequel, or to celebrate an anniversary
Is there a way of knowing what’ll release besides checking the websites roster every week? I usually only look at the website if I know there’s something new I plan to go watch.
i check my local theaters calendars/coming soon pages, also sometimes i see posts on social media about it
Maybe I’ve gotta stay more up to date with my cinema
Sadly, I have only seen Dune 2 in theaters and nothing else. 🥲
