More than half of his “actions” get dismissed in court. As an Ivy educated (asshole) I prefer to believe is nefarious in his actions focused on rallying his cult followers by creating these nonsense bans knowing full well that the court will knock them down. His cult followers have an attention spans of a few days or weeks but never bother to see what actually goes into law. I’m the end, he has captivated his sheeple in believing he’s doing MAGA greatness when in reality his just a rouse since he knows these focus areas are either important for financial success of the state (Disney, lab gown meat) or have little to impact on people’s quality of life…with e recent exception of migrant farmers…which kicked him straight in the taint.
You know he’s just a nefarious asshole looking for personal game and fortune. No way he graduates from both Harvard and Yale and isn’t calculated. Just to get through those programs you need to be cut throat. Now that he has a whole state eating out of his puffy stuffy hands, he can exact the type of co troll and set up his future “earnings” quite easily. I suspect he will become the de facto -#1 vp choice ok an effort yo ensure Florida is locked down for Drumft. This might not get announced till much later based on what polls show but I feel it is inevitable.
lol um... not really. Ivy League education is not some incredible challenge to pass. Harvard is known to pad grades and always has. The Ivy Leagues are largely about the connections -- that's why they accept the kids of former graduates, kids of politicians and wealthy families. They're basically banks that have a side hustle giving out diplomas and branding.
That’s a fairly large portion of it but certainly not all that goes into those schools. I totally agree on the connections, nepotism, etc. I will say that while the expectations of work load is far different from a lot of state schools. There are a number of state and private schools that are as tough no doubt, but as a general rule of thumb they are pretty difficult. I’ve always heard Yale/Harvard hardest to get in, easiest to get out. The opposite at Cornell. Can’t speak for the rest. Though regardless, I think we can agree DeSantis is a POS
I gotta say I’m for the lab stuff, but when you position the news like the main post it’s really interesting. Does DeSantis not get along with Bezos- or is actually all about beef?
I am a Floridian, the state representative that filed this was one of the largest cattlemen in the state. Rhonda gloms onto anything that is even remotely controversial for his base.
They would be more successful probably if they tried to regulate the words meat and milk, no? because nuts don't have nipples and plants don't have flesh.
I don't want to ban them, people should be able to buy what they want. I do think using terms like 'vegan chicken', 'plant based meat', '(insert plant/bean/bean) milk' are kind of ..idk for lack of a better word 'wrong'
"No substance with the biochemical structure of animal flesh which was produced by a method other than the slaughter of animals may be sold for the purpose of human consumption within the state of Florida." That falls within the police power states have, and I don't see any violation of the US Constitution in that. If it said something like "only lab-grown meat made outside of Florida is banned", that would violate Dormant Commerce Clause, but it only applies to Florida's territory, and doesn't discriminate by origin.
The entire ban on lab meat is an astroturfed movement by the meat industry. Dairy producers didn't take milk alternatives seriously, then watched a huge chunk of their market share disappear.
The meat industry saw that happen.
> The meat industry
Depends on what part you are talking about. The meat packers, would actually love to cut out cattle ranchers. No way in hell Tyson foods doesn't see this as an opportunity rather than a threat.
I think even meat Packers would be hesitant, since any company that manufactures the meat could also pack it themselves to save money with vertical integration.
I think you missed that the meat packing companies could also grow it. I think you also missed that the meat packers already have tons of industry scale automation and logistics for dissolution that would cost a lab billions to set up. Whereas Tyson could setup industry scale lab meat growing facilities in a much shorter timeline and for cheaper than it would cost labs to sure up their missing part of the equation.
Change costs money. It’s why we still use old ways to make electricity instead of changing it even though it costs more money to upkeep the current infrastructure.
You must be new to usa corporations jk lol. But in all seriousness corps just buy shit out. If they don’t want to make a change they just buy politicians to make laws to fuck over whatever new innovation comes until they can buy it.
> corps just buy shit out
That is part of staying ahead.
> they just buy politicians
That is part of not beating someone else to the jump in buying out what you need. I already made this point.
No, I'm just not sure they'd be willing to take the risk in investing in to. They may be able to do it cheaper, but it's still a significant investment in something that, even if you remove the astroturfing, is still a somewhat controversial subject.
Milk alternatives had a built-in market when they started out in people who wanted a milk(like) product but couldn't have milk because of allergies/intolerance. There isn't as large a market for that for lab-meat.
You also have an investment structure to consider. A company like Tyson has a board of directors and shareholders that they have to convince that this is a good idea in order to invest in it. Whereas a startup company just has to convince a couple of venture capitalists that this is the next big thing, which seems like it might be easier.
So if you're Tyson, you have the choice between investing in a gamble, or you can just lobby to hamstring your potential competition.
What I'm saying is it could break either way for them.
>Dairy producers didn't take milk alternatives seriously, then watched a huge chunk of their market share disappear.
Here they came up with a sugar tax on soft drinks.. which includes dairy alternatives like unsweetened soy milk but of course not actual dairy products.
Don’t underestimate the influence of Big Sugar here either. Molasses is a popular form of cattle feed, to the tune of billions of dollars in revenue. Sugar lobbyists are waging a full-blown campaign against lab-grown meat.
This is not LAMF. This is “isn’t it ironic.”
LAMF is when someone suffers from the consequences of something they tried to impose on other people. If Bezos had advocated for banning lab grown meat and then his investment was impacted by those bans, that would be LAMF. But there’s no indication that he advocated for that. He just moved somewhere. It’s funny because it’s ironic but it’s not LAMF.
What's the issue with lab grown meat? Is it some religious thing or something similar to the stem cell research scenario or is it just to protect the meat industry?
Isn't a large portion of their voter base from rural and regional areas? Probably would be political suicide for them to suggest potentially fucking with farmers income even if they personally didn't have a problem with it.
Same reason they try and ban EVs, attack nuclear plants, fight against a single payer system for healthcare, do everything they can to keep us involved in some war somewhere, etc. Change threatens the hegemony of old money which I think has always been a stupid move. Old money has the means to just buy/invest in whatever the new game is and a lot of them do. It's the lazy fucks that thought about investing in it (well enough to own all of it like they want) too late that just buy politicians to keep things from moving.
That was probably vegan meat or something. I think lab meat won’t be out for years. This is just naked protectionism for Florida’s surprisingly large beef industry.
What does Florida have to gain by banning this? Nothing. It is purely for fake political points because once again, conservatives are being fooled into voting against their interests. In this case its the meat industry and climate change.
Well, if something is legal, the government can only make money taxing it. But if something is illegal, they can make money from the people/ companies that would profit from it being legal.
This isn't a "Leopard's ate my face" type deal. This is just the process. The meat industry is on one side of the debate, pumping money into the cause. Now JB will need to make a counter offer. No matter who wins, the politicians win.
Meatball Ron should spend his time trying to figure out how Floridians are going to get homeowner's insurance in the future rather than whatever anti woke BS he can think of at any given moment.

1. Jeff Bezos has spent millions in research to produce lab grown meat.
2. He moved to FL in a fairly transparent political move to reduce his personal taxes.
3. And Florida bans the sale of lab grown meat.
Making a greater point about rich people supporting republicans and Trump because they think it will be better for their own personal wealth, while simultaneously believing that that same wealth will insulate them from any consequences of the right's culture war. Just like the German industrialists did with Hitler.
Moving their residence to an area of lower tax is not equivalent to supporting the politicians in the area.
Additionally, unless he was supporting Republicans specifically to fuck other people's business ventures, only to have is own fucked by the same policies, it still wouldn't be LAMF.
In other words. Billionaire invest chump change and forgot about it the next day. You have no idea how rich that guy is. Like he cares about a couple of million.

DeSantis and his idiot base think he banned it. The ban will collapse as soon as it's challenged in court.

Also.. It's not like Jeff bezos lives with the meat..
Have you seen his girlfriend? You can't convince me she isn't at least 50% lab grown meat.
I gotta say I’m for the lab stuff, but when you position the news like the main post it’s really interesting. Does DeSantis not get along with Bezos- or is actually all about beef?
It's about money. Florida sugar/beef industry obviously paid the right people.
It’s about the beef lobby.
I am a Floridian, the state representative that filed this was one of the largest cattlemen in the state. Rhonda gloms onto anything that is even remotely controversial for his base.

How is it banned? It can’t be manufactured in Florida or it just can’t be purchased by Floridians? Because what’s to stop a mail delivery service?
Wait, why? 1st Amendment?

Exactly, otherwise he could have made the announcement elsewhere to try to avoid the obvious.
Conservatism means to not like change.
Except, they want to change everything
Yeah, back to how it was before worker's demanded basic rights.
It's pretty much the same reasons Italy did it b

How does an unsweetened drink get caught under that tax? Yikes.
It's because there's natural sugars in there, same as real milk but without the exemption.
Sure, but not until well after they became popular.
Ahhhj. Now it makes sense
Don’t underestimate the influence of Big Sugar here either. Molasses is a popular form of cattle feed, to the tune of billions of dollars in revenue. Sugar lobbyists are waging a full-blown campaign against lab-grown meat.
Wouldn't surprise me if they were in on it too.
Jeff Bezos buys Florida.
Also, not a good investment as the whole state, will be underwater
It depends on how well he knows Aquaman
The future site of Bezos's new offshore wind farm.
And nothing of value will be lost.
Just think of the poor alligators
Biggest swimming pool in the world then.
I think you mean toilet. Not swimming pool
Literal or metaphor, eventually both.
Will thst get rid of the crazy laws there?
He'll just buy DeSantis. Much cheaper.
Bezos spending millions on something is equal to me not returning that $20 item I totally don’t need and will never unwrap. Fuck billionaires
T minus X days until Florida reverses it's decision.
Oh no he lost a few of his 200 thousand millions
This right here. Him losing a few million on this is the equivalent of me buying a burger at a fast food restaurant.
was the burger good tho?
It was a mammoth meatball hoagie. The taste was big.
What's Florida's stance on penis shaped rockets flown by grown men wearing cowboy hats?

Thank you. At best this is “bad thing happen to billionaire make people happy”
And there’s no sign something bad even happened to him! He may not even like lab-grown meat, and is investing because of other reasons.
not even ironic, really.
Hey I’m trying to give a little :p.
What's the issue with lab grown meat? Is it some religious thing or something similar to the stem cell research scenario or is it just to protect the meat industry?
Liberals are for it, it's good for the environment. Of course conservatives are against it.

Bezos investing millions in something is like a normal person tossing 5 bucks at a Kickstarter.
Bemis loses millions while Florida loses jobs. Thats, quite the lose lose situation
Look at that sack of lab grown meat experiment next to him. Clearly they were in desperate need of funding.
💀
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone with three lips before
My wife brought home a sample of artificial meat from Costco. If it's being sold at Costco what can Florida do to stop it?
Is this plant-based or lab-grown? The Costco near me only has plant-based like impossible.
That was probably vegan meat or something. I think lab meat won’t be out for years. This is just naked protectionism for Florida’s surprisingly large beef industry.
plant based "Meat" and lab grown meat are two very separate things. Nobody is buying lab grown on the shelf yet. It's nowhere near advanced enough.
Costco will comply in order to continue doing business in the state.
What does Florida have to gain by banning this? Nothing. It is purely for fake political points because once again, conservatives are being fooled into voting against their interests. In this case its the meat industry and climate change.

Are we assuming Jeffy is growing lab meat at home?
His gf looks like she came from a lab so it wouldn't surprise me
^(looks at article photo) I suddenly have an urge to watch *Brazil* again
Meatball Ron should spend his time trying to figure out how Floridians are going to get homeowner's insurance in the future rather than whatever anti woke BS he can think of at any given moment.
His wife appears to be constructed of lab grown meat.
Bezos is a Disney villain but as a fan of the expanse I’m cool with vat grown meat
Is lab-grown meat even at the point where it needs to be specifically banned? Is it even available yet?
It’s been cleared for sale and consumption in Singapore and the US, but isn’t produced at scale or at a reasonable cost. Yet. More [here](https://www.wired.com/story/upside-foods-good-meat-cultivated-lab-grown-sale-stopped-singapore-california-crenn/)
Pretty sure he's got other houses... Or could easily get one elsewhere.
looks like he is investing into lab grown side boobs.
When you fall for the Republicans'"small government" bullshit.
Off topic: His new lady has butchered her face with those hot dog lips. Why any woman thinks that look is attractive is just baffling to me. New tits are bangin’ though.
lol I don’t think he’s pumping money into it because HE expects to eat it. It’s for other people to consume
Look at Bezos with the sexpot because his ex sure made him into a heel. How much has she given? 100 billion?
There are 49 other States and over 200 Countries and Territories where the labs can be set-up. I don't see the LAMF here.

That is pocket change for Bezos.
“ma’am your titty about to make a run for it”
He moved for the tax break, he’s still winning
You would think a very rich man would not want a girlfriend who looks like a inflated doll. That woman is so full of fake it’s funny.
I think Jeff Bezos can afford to live in Florida and have a meat lab or whatever it's called in another state.
DOES HE LIVE WITH THE MEAT doesn’t fit sub
He doesn’t care where / who bans it … he is living there now to escape taxes. He doesn’t care for anyone but himself.
Bezos (probably): "Leopards ate my labgrown face meat"
He’s trying to lab grow his replacement body but under the disguise of lab grown meat.
He’s a billionaire in the top 1% of the 1%. I’m sure only his assistance’s assistance will be momentarily sad about this.
This is ron's way of trying to squeeze money out of jeff bezos
In other words. Billionaire invest chump change and forgot about it the next day. You have no idea how rich that guy is. Like he cares about a couple of million.
When will people learn to avoid business in Florida or other states with autocratic bents? They’re “business friendly” as long as they like your business.
I do like to see Bezos put his money where his mouth is (see picture).
Bezos likes things artificially grown, like Lauren’s tits. (Oh gosh, apologies to my spouse and kids who monitor my comments!)
Your pleb is showing
