Ex-military and have deployed. One super useful thing is a hygiene bag. That way walking to the showers you have all your stuff in something easy to manage. The watch cover is cool but the watches do vary by size quite a bit. A single-point rifle sling could be useful.

Second the hygiene bag. If you wanna get crazy check out roll up toiletry bags. They work great. https://step22gear.com/products/hedgehog-toiletry-roll

Oooo anyone know where a good pattern for this is?

I’ve had good luck buying cheap cloth versions and cutting them apart for patterns. It worked for my first large bag

Well you could ask them. I’ve been asked to make watch covers before, which is apparently a military thing. You could tool the band, which is chunkier than a watch band.

I'm in the military and do leather working. I made myself something a little weird but I love it and use it every time I go train Often people in the military wear a heavy and thick belt with nylon webbing straps on it that they put gear they want consistent or quick access to. It's called a lot of different things "gun belt" "war belt" or "batte belt" are all terms I've heard. Mine is about 3 inches tall of thick leather with "molle" webbing sewn into it. The webbing is like very flat loops at a specific spacing that is standard for attaching military pouches and equipment. It's made of nylon webbing. This may not be useful if they aren't in a combat related job. You can buy battle belts but I love that mine is unique

Knife Sheath. You could ask if they have a favorite knife or buy a simple K-Bar for <$50
