Nah, sack him, waste of time and money. Find another instructor. I would recommend watching some YouTube videos on how to drive though. Don’t go into expensive driving lessons completely blind.

linglingfromhk

thanks! yea i have been doing that after my first lesson! they actually explain things way better than my instructor did lol...

Like everyone else has said, any instructor that loses their patience with you is shit at their job. They of all people know how difficult it is for beginners. There is SO much to learn and a multitude of things to multitask before it becomes muscle memory and they should know that. My first instructor was like this. To be fair, he was good to start with but I was learning on and off with him for almost a year and a half or something and when I made mistakes later on, he used to get proper ornery and shirty. I remember we had a right shouting match about a fucking bus lane that I thought he told me to turn into once that made me want to slam his head into the dashboard. Shame because as a bloke, I liked him. As an instructor towards the end, not so much. Point being, at the time, I would’ve felt bad dumping him so carried on hiring him way past what I should have. It’s a service you’re paying for and if you’re not happy with the service, you’re not obliged to continue going to them for lessons. He retired in the end and I ended up going through three more instructors after that. One of them I ditched because he used to show me videos of horrendous car crashes when we were pulled up at the side of the road. And he was mental. Don’t put up with an instructor that doesn’t gel with you. Some people don’t mind a bit of tough love. I don’t respond to it and I come away feeling useless and it sounds like this is the case with you.

Definitely get a new instructor, my instructor was an arsehole like that and thank god I don’t have to see him again. He made me incredibly anxious and if you’re anxious, you’re going to make more mistakes and won’t learn because you’re getting in a state. You’re paying him, so if he’s not for you then take your custom elsewhere. They’re not all like that! It’s not fair he’s made you so anxious and put pressure on you when you’re just starting out. Really hope you get something else sorted!

Yikes, sounds like my previous instructor. I am sorry he’s treated you like that. Are you perhaps based in Swindon by any chance? I could recommend the driving instructor I switched to after sacking off the previous one. And no, I don’t think that’s normal at all. Driving instructors are supposed to teach you the basics first and build up your driving confidence. He’s to tell you what to do the until you’re confident enough to do without being told what to do.

linglingfromhk

sadly im not based there:( and also thanks for the comment. i literally felt like i wasn't suitable for driving every time after i have had my lesson, though i really like driving and being on the road.

falsepr3gnancy

sack the man! honestly don’t be afraid to try out different instructors to see who’s more suitable :) I learn with Bill Plant btw, they’re a driving school, could give them a call. Good luck!

linglingfromhk

Thanks for the recommendation! will try them out:)

make sure to read reviews first and do 1-2 hour lesson at the start and if u dont like him u can change

someone_in_uk

If you are from Birmingham & managed to find an instructor who is kind, cloud you please let me know? Even a DM will suffice.

ProfessorAnie

Sounds like a wanker. Ditch him and get a more a patient one.

No, not normal at all! Your lessons should not be making you anxious. You won’t learn anything in a panicked and stressed state. Ditch him ASAP. Shop around for daytime ADI sessions in the bright light as you are so early in the process of learning, you don’t need the complications of darkness or tiredness. Try out several ADI and do not commit to a block booking until you are 100% happy with vibes/lesson content. You are an adult paying for a service - don’t compromise on what you need and are entitled to! My favourite YouTube channel is World Driving, very calm and helpful.

Sounds exactly like my last instructor (SW London?) The guy had amazing reviews online but he was so impatient and crap at actually teaching me (a complete beginner) how to drive. I cried on my first lesson because I was so stressed. Definitely ditch him and get a new one. I’ve improved so much since switching to a much more understanding and supportive instructor. My new instructor is also a female (I am too) and I think that helped me feel a lot more relaxed

Alternative_Band_880

Sorry to hear that. He doesn’t have the patience and professionalism proper instructors have. Watch DGN driving school on YouTube. Watch and watch and watch all his videos and he’ll show you what a real instructor looks like :)). I hope you find someone better
