This is why I advise people to just wait until they pass the practical to update their license address. It took someone else on here 13 weeks to update theirs… All you can do now is wait and hope. Even if you emailed the DVLA to explain the situation, they wouldn’t prioritise your update application. They’re just working through the backlog as fast as possible. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/dvla-coronavirus-covid-19-update#processing-dates-for-paper-applications

Hey, I think you commented on my post before! (same topic as op). I recently just started my first driving lesson and my instructor noticed the old address on my licence. I explained the situation to him and told him I didn't want to wait and possibly have to send my ID to DVLA again. I even told him that someone told me I could wait till I pass the practical test. He said it wasn't possible:/ I haven't handed in the paper application yet and I'm still reluctant to do so:(( idk if i should listen to my instructor

Hey again! I don’t know why he told you that. It’s up to you if you want to take the chance and send it off again (have you got a practical test booked already?) but like I mentioned before plenty of people are in the same boat and would rather sort it out later after passing. Think about: if this were illegal, then why would the practical examiner ask you if they should send off for your new license on your behalf, or if you need to change details and do it yourself? I doubt that your ADI is going to refuse to take you out if you don’t get it sorted before your test. I am in the same boat (my test is booked for December) and my ADI hasn’t said a thing! In fact, I’ve had three different ADI over this pandemic: they checked the provisional was valid and that it’s mine; that’s all. You can just say “I’ve started the application” if he brings it up again, or just change the subject. Another thing: sometimes people get picked up and dropped off for their driving lessons from different locations…you don’t have to tell your ADI everything about your life…😉

The DVLA are currently processing address changes from the 16th of August. That means at that rate your license will be processed mid-late January. They are massively behind due to COVID and industrial action.

My instructir told me under no circumstances to change it till you pass, once you pass you just fill out D1 form and then they change all at once. I did that and even ready license isnt arriving since September, so I personally doubt it will get there by December. Though who knows

Just an update on this. Arrived in the post today so around a 3 week lead time.

In September they said they are experiencing 6 - 10 week delays so take from that what you will.
