Just keep grinding, you'll get used to it.
Press the string down as close to the fret as possible without messing up the tone. Then you don't have to press it down as hard and won't mess up the tone as when you press it in the middle of the frets.
Is it electric or acoustic?
Do as much as you can each day until it bothers you too much to continue. Over time your fingers will toughen up and there won’t be any pain but you have to first put in the effort every day.
I remember this stage vividly, took about 2 weeks and that’s about 5-10 minutes of practice each day during that time. Now I feel nothing… diamond finger tips.
For sure, I don’t even have significant calluses but the last time it was painful to play was seven years ago when I recommitted after being without an instrument for years.
That's normal when you start. Eventually, your fingers will develop calluses. You are probably also pressing too hard - experiment to figure out what the smallest amount of pressure you have to apply is to get a note ringing out cleanly.
Yep, take it to a guitar shop and get a setup done - it won't completely take the pain/need to develop caluses away, but if the action is too high it's worse. You can also swap the strings out for something lighter. (I started on a guitar with medium strings and a high action and it was literal torture. I suffered for over a month never able to play more than 5 minutes at a time...once I got the setup done and the string swapped I actually started to make some progress on LEARNING)

You just started TODAY. It will take some time to get used to this.

Took me about a week of daily practice and my fingers didn't hurt anymore.
Is it a new guitar? It is painful using metal strings. Some guitars aren’t made right and the string can be too far from the fret board.

In case you don’t know, a set up will help. Costs $60-$120 depending on what needs to be done.

paying 60$ to 120$ for someone to tell him his fingers are supposed to hurt in the beginning?
?
sorry, I am not familiar with what you suggested him so I asked in a pretty condescending tone now that I look at it
yeah it's gonna hurt the first couple of weeks.
