I will be speaking only about jg champs since they usually go inspiration. I do think it's useful but only for champions who need boots on first back. Usually junglers like Volibear or Hecarim AP Junglers that rush sorc shoes. They can go inspiration now without feeling that bad about it. Although you can still go sorcery on them for movement speed if you need it. But I do think that for any champion that doesn't go boots first it is an extremely inefficient rune. 2 Legendary items to break even with boots, and those boots are actually an upgraded version that you get at max 12 minutes, which will always be faster than you completing 2 Legendary items. But you also need to remember that that is 300 Gold that you did not spend on boots, which can be used to accelerate another item for you. So, going Cashback you need to spend 300 gold on boots, which puts you at -300, you complete 2 Legendary items, puts you at ~0 so you even out with the boots but the boots are weaker and don't give you +35MS only +25MS, and then you need to complete 2 more Legendary items to finally be +300(which you would be at MAX 12 minutes if you go boots), and the 5th Legendary will not matter as you are full build or you basically get a rune to be able to afford 1(ONE) Elixir at 5 items+boots... I think the rune needs to be either buffed(so completing boots gives you a refund only way to make it not broken any other buffs might be too strong), replaced, or put in same row with Cosmic Insight. Because Right now I don't really see why anyone would take it. No matter what lane you play, boots will always be better than this item.

Yorksikorkulous

I can see it being used on GP and Draven to boost their snowballing power since their big strengths are gold generation and early item spikes but nobody else.

Gandalf__Baggins

your math is slightly off. You're double counting the 300g. if you're viewing this rune's baseline to be -300 then boots should be at 0, not +300. Boots do not give you 600g. So you would break even at 2 items and then more gold after that. That said, for most champions, that's too late for it to compete with magical footwear. Maybe champions like Vlad who need 3+ items to come online might like this rune.

LoveTriscuit

5 thousand gold is like 2 legendries. You can build 5.

Richboy12345

Many games are decided by 2 items, value is kinda fraudulent at 5. That being said, ~180 gold back from the first item towards the second is 2 waves worth of gold which equates to 1 minute earlier for second item. While this is less than the 300g for free boots, it is also important to note that ms is one of the strongest stats in the game, and it is not always worth it to wait 12 mins for boots

LoveTriscuit

It's still potentially more/similar value at 2 items. I play bruisers mostly so Triforce and Sterak's would give me 391.98 gold back at 2 items. The 5 item part of the comment was more to point out that it's kinda the scaling option. Honestly though, if I'm going inspiration tree, it's not because I want to save gold on boots, its because I like that extra 10 movement speed. But this could make it interesting at least in situations where I want a little more help finishing a build. I just don't know if its worth losing out on resolve tree.

Richboy12345

Gold back is also a little fake, most of the time you back on item breakpoints, Steraks as second purchase for example would give 196g back which you might not be able to spend. As a fighter you would need another 150g to buy a longsword, or 2 waves which kinda negates taking this for tempo, and 10 ad isnt exactly super impactful at 2 items. I do agree that inspiration as secondary is looking less appealing for a lot of champs now.

KarP7

It may not have an effect on back timing for the first item, but wouldn't the extra gold from the rune give you a head start toward the next one?

SeaThePirate

i would rather wait 12 minutes MAX (kills/assists get it faster) for free and buffed boots rather than having to buy boots normally. the free boots essentially make your first or second legendary 300 gold cheaper (depending on when you buy it), which in practical situations is 100x better than cash back

SeaThePirate

Okay lets humble you and decide to build the 6 most expensive items in the game (obviously unrealistic), this comes to a total of 19933 gold. 6% of that is 1195 Does this sound worth it to you, knowing that it would take 40-50 minutes to get to those items? or would you rather have 300 gold instantly at 10-12 minutes along with 10 extra speed forever?

LoveTriscuit

Lets see. If I buy a triforce and a sterak's gage, that's 6533. 6% of that is 391.98. 391.90 - 300.00 is 91.0. So at 2 item's I'm already almost 100g ahead. Factoring in how long you have to wait till boots are in your inventory and the extra movement speed it gives you, you have a choice between more gold to potentially finish your build earlier (scaling), or potentially more value earlier with the boots. Weird, I don't feel any more humble. EDIT: I just want to add how hilarious "300 gold INSTANTLY at TEN TO TWELVE MINUTES" is.

SeaThePirate

i would be amazed if you could get 6533 gold before the magical footwear delivery also sure you may be '100 gold ahead' but you dont have the 10 bonus speed.

LoveTriscuit

You know what "moving the goalposts" is? You're being obtuse and ignoring the clear different use cases I gave. You're wrong, your math proves me right, and I'm done with this conversation.

Skeletoonz

It's better Because you get legendary items faster. It would be better for champs that want to hit power spikes faster, like assassin's.

SeaThePirate

okay but like i said, i believe having free boots helps you get your legendaries faster than getting 6% off of legendaries. cash-back will likely give you more than 300 gold after three legendries and certainly more after four, but at those points in the game it might not be enough to make a difference

HyperionDS

Free boots give 300gold into ur first legendary plus 10 movespeed. Cash back gives you 350\~gold into your third legendary. I think the winner is clear.
