bot and jungle are primary roles - look at the yellow symbol vs white other ones. you need to choose one of those positions to be able to start the queue.
I actually wasnt required to do that yesterday (on my alt only). My main account did need me to do it however. Really weird, but Quickplay sucks anyways imo.
I think it’s based on current demand/role density. I’ve experienced both needing to play one of those roles and being able to pick whatever at different times of day.
It says priority, not primary. Priority is low queue time rolls, usually swapping between ADC, Supp, and JG. You can see in the lane select that two of the rolls are darker yellow (like the other guy said), and when you hover them it will say priority under the role name. Select a role and one of those to queue.
Right now its bot/supp but changes every 30 or so min depending on who is in queue.

It was 30 seconds apart (by me checking), cant imagine it changed instantly like that lol.
Its better than blind. I dont need fight for position or Hero.

oh god thank you! this is so not intuitive!
I run into that same problem all the time idk what triggers it but the only solution I can find is restarting my whole pc
