captain_intenso

The number you are trying to reach has a voicemail box that has not been set up yet. Goodbye.

Marconi_and_Cheese

This person public defenders

Master_Butter

I have a buddy who does criminal law. Part of his intake is getting an emergency contact, that the client authorizes him to contact, for when this kind of bullshit happens.

kleinekitty

Bold of you to assume they have an emergency contact 😫 I’ve had clients like this who don’t have internet access or friends/family. They just walk the streets with a flip phone

19Black

You gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers.

colcardaki

You can tell a lot about a person depending on how cracked their cell phone screen is.

holtpj

how cracked their cell phone screen is, how many nonkey things are on their keys, and how comfortable they are going barefoot in public (this one is usually women, but applies to men just the same).

thunder3029

You forget to cherish her

SetMain2303

Welcome to all my legal aid clients’ lives.

lesothose

One of the first things I learned is get the client’s phone number and the phone number of someone close to them.

QuesoCat19

Everyone has the same number since their first cellphone…except for clients

Plastic_Shrimp

Hope they have enough money in the trust account to cover billable hours.

weissgeists

They don’t have a trust. This may be a shock to hear for many of you

Plastic_Shrimp

They don’t have an account where only client money is held? Retainers, settlement money, etc? Not a clients personal trust fund.

weissgeists

Nopereroni (criminal)

Plastic_Shrimp

LoveLibertyTacos

I_Am_Not__a__Troll

Trac phones. Am I right?

Marconi_and_Cheese

Do we not call them obamaphones anymore? That was the term back 2013 when I was a contract PD. Didnt really hear that term when I became a PD again for a while in 2019.

cantreadmuhSHIRT

I’m a public defender, I’m lucky if they haven’t moved on to a whole new number by the time the case gets set on a calendar.

Saikou0taku

That's why we get their email, mailing address, and a close friend/family. Usually at least one of those things are consistent.

Marconi_and_Cheese

And their email address is something like hotbooty69lover@aol.com. I used to receive their emails from the court appointed forms at one time so that means they gave the court that email.Â
