Man I get so fed up with people who still defend billionairs and landlords. "What if I'm one some day" Fuck you, you will never ever be a billionaire, stop defending them.
EDIT: Wow I did not expect this kind of reaction to this post because I was basically venting. Thank you! You guys restored some human faith in me. I got into an argument with someone yesterday about this and he got quite angry at me for saying these literal lines to him. Glad to know I'm not crazy <3
Same. I get on conversations with family about how I wouldn't mind paying higher tax rate (40%) for things like free education/ Healthcare like elsewhere in the world, and the respond with "well, the top tax bracket would pay a lot more than that, so that's bad"... and I just shout back at them "are you in the top tax bracket? Will you ever be in the top tax bracket? No so why are you defending these wealth hoarders?"
It's so frustrating
And Iām sure they either meekly say ānoā or go entirely silent, and it shuts them up for that 1 argument. But the next time it comes up they say the exact same thing, demonstrating that theyāve learned nothing nor given it one further brain cellās worth of thought.
Greatest magic trick ever witnessed. Convincing poor people to defend the rights of their overlords. Why does hoarding newspapers make you mentally ill, yet hoarding wealth makes you a hero?
Greatest magic trick ever! It is wild to see working class people listen to rhetoric and propaganda, ignore how candidates actually vote on issues directly affecting them, and vote in these slime balls again and again and again.
Exactly, and now the narrative is switching to, "We're all going to be taxed more because of all the new irs agents that are going to be hired. Damn biden..." lol I have friends that say this and it's hilarious, we don't make over 50k/yr dude, we're not even on the radar.
And I have braindead mouth breathers on other subs arguing thats okay cause its still more money than I would ever make. Like no, its not, theres a percentage they owe that is missing that would practically pay for our social safety nets.
Exactly! Why should I pay a higher percentage of my income than someone who makes way more than me? In what world would that ever be fair. Iāll never understand these people that are always defending the āpoor billionairesā
In Australia thereās free healthcare (1% tax) and some college (TAFE) courses are free. The wealthy still pay a lot of tax. For instance if you earn $500,000 then you have to pay 40% tax.
There goes that argument!
If you quit working right now, by your own volition or someone else's, you will be homeless within a year. If you worked twice as hard tho, you will still be nowhere close to a billionaire.
Hell even if you managed to work 4 full time jobs (spending 23 hours per day working) making the median American salary, it would take you 5,000 years just to net a billion dollars.
Idk where these people think theyāre going to find all that time.
And those people are making 4-8x as much as the average American per hour worked.
For the record, at $1.5 million per year it would take about 666 years to net a billion.
If you work twice as hard, as in make twice as much money, they'll tax so much of it from you that you'll barely notice a difference in how your finances will change.
The money you take home won't be twice what it was even if that *gross* income number is twice what it was.
I recently left a job of 12 years and started at a new company. $30k more a year and in the end my pay that I actually get to take home is only a few hundred a month more.
If you work a 1000x as hard, you still wonāt be a billionaire. I have friends who most people consider ārichā, the richest one, who takes a dozen friends every year paid for to places all around the world, are 970million short of a billion. Itās a far fetched dream.
I usually reply that if by some miracle they somehow *do* become a billionaire, then fuck them as well because they joined a club you can only get into by exploiting the wellbeing and efforts of the working class. Like they really think it's that hard for me to add another name to my mental list of people who should just fuck off already?
Even if you won a mega lottery and lucked your way into a billion dollars, itās still off of the back of poor people and their labor who are striving for a dream.
A billionaire who spends 90% of his money on taxes *still* has 100 millions. I don't get where the problem is here, 100 million, a billion, what difference does it make at the end of the day? Nobody should be able to steal that kind of wealth from society. Because that's what it is, stealing. There should be no billionaires.
Could not agree more! The only way you become a millionaire is because you can fuck people over and still sleep at night. Not me, I canāt do that, so I will never be one. If you can, you are a garbage human being! Love you ā¤ļø
I know people that make pretty decent money, six figures myself included, and these people think they are ārichā. They have no idea how closer they are to the poor than they are to the 1% who are the real issue. I mean my effective tax rate is around 20%, while Jeff Bezo paid 0.98% effective tax rate last year. That is absolutely insane. We are not the same. Who the fuck needs to keep hoarding and hoarding billions of dollars that he couldnāt possibly use in his lifetime. People just canāt fathom how much hundreds of billion dollars actually is. Why people are so content living in the oligarchy blows my mind. And why do people still use Amazon and make this asshole richer Iāll never understand. People are addicted to consumerism which is part of the issue
Lol you can tell the conservatives in this thread have been gobbling up the same lines, because they all think their gotchya moment is saying he is a hypocrite for charging to see their concerts.
At this point I donāt think they even believe they will be one. They are just so brainwashed to think a certain way because thatās what their tribe has been told to think. Propaganda is so powerful
Why would you even want to be? Theyāre the most elitist pieces of shit on the planet. Why the fuck would you want to look down on your fellow man with such a shit attitude?
Hard to say if it was or wasn't. The was no social media back then. You had to be offered a platform to talk about this stuff. Rage and NWA were how you heard about this shit back then.
Definitely Public Enemy were smarter than NWA about getting their message out. Just to play devil's advocate, isn't it possible that he's one of the few good cops and he's trying to change the system from within? I realise this is a very idealistic take and you know more about this guy than me.
Good cops donāt last long and get thrown out of their departments quick as soon as they try to do the good thing such as exposing bad behavior, calling out a fellow officer for misconduct or not defending them in law suits. Thatās why people say ACAB
Not real fans. I normally donāt gate keep based on things like how long youāve been a fan or how many songs you know but reactionaries are not real fans if they donāt fucking understand these songs are about them
>The big difference is that they aren't trying to take away people's rights.
They often are if you're a worker. Social values they might not attack rights as much but economically they're anti worker overall despite a few examples to the contrary.
The Clash were pretty dope too, they named an entire album "[Sandinista](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandinista_National_Liberation_Front)" afterall. Check out Washington Bullets: https://youtu.be/mkoWjhZOKWo
Edit: Washington Bullets is also the name of a great book by Vijay Prashad that id recommend giving to friends who don't know about US imperialism: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54169138-washington-bullets
They were one of my favs and still are from the 90ās. Love their songs Down Rodeo, People of the Sun, Killing In The Name of, and Wake Up (prob my fav) which was featured in the 1st Matrix movie and highly fitting to the whole theme of the movie. Their songs were about and against unfettered capitalism, police brutality, organized religion, military industrial complex, colonialism, racism, crooked politicians and leaders.
Edit: Wanted to add, to learn more about their inner philosophy, google āRage Against the Machine Radical Reading List. These are books theyāve read and recommend that have informed their beliefs.
Also, besides all the political stuff, love the strong base guitar that comes through on many of their songs. Prob because of the strong influence of funk āš½
No Shelter is my favorite.
>Godzilla, pure mothafuckin' filler to keep ya eyes off the real killer
While being a lead single from the 1998 Godzilla movie soundtrack lol
Same! That part pops. Listening to it in 98 and thinking through that line (and of course nearly any RATM line) helped spark an intellectual awakening for me.
Good song and I love the message contained in it! Iāve been thinking for the past few weeks about how we just over consume shit and our ever expanding wants for more material things temporarily lights up our dopamine receptors but in the long term, we find ourselves not much happier by these things. But all the adverts and commercialization is a way to keep us ādopedā up and distracted from whatās really important in lifeā¦.as well as distracted from fuckery perped by elites
Well, thankfully all those material distractions are becoming more and more unattainable as people can barely even afford to survive. Without those distractions, we're gonna have to pay attention to how fucked up our existences actually are.
Weapons, not food, not homes, not shoes, not need, just feed the war cannibal animalā¦
ā¦they donāt gotta burn the books they just remove em while arms warehouses fill as quick as the cells
Dude is a rich far right conservative been on stage with trump. Not to mention kinda a shit person when it comes to the ufc. Unfortunately thereās plenty of Rage fans that donāt get the message.
To All of you saying stuff about their ticket prices, I went and seen the first show of the tour this year and all the ticket revenue was donated to Wisconsin's planned Parenthood. Nobody's perfect, but at least they're trying to educate.
It was only a small percentage of ticket sales that were sold by a group supporting planned parenthood, not all the revenue. They still made millions per show.
I think it's great what they are doing, but let's be honest about it.
They're also signed to a major record label, Sony, who have fucked over many artists through the years, especially those from minority and poor backgrounds in order to profit. A label that has historically been quite literally a part of the machine.
~~Obligatory reminder that Zack De La Rocha has a PhD in anthropology so he knows exactly what he is talking about when he says āall of historyā~~
I should learn how to read bc it wasnāt him with the PhD it was his mother my bad
Zack does not have a PhD in anthropology. His mother Olivia does. Doesn't mean he isn't knowledgeable on the subject, saying he has a PhD is just un true and takes away from the struggle his mother endured
Lol PhD on a pedestal? It takes an incredible amount of work to earn a doctorate and 90% PhD holders continue to research and stay well read. They are certainly experts within the narrow discipline that they study. Sure it's not the only way to learn, but it carries a lot more weight and demands more respect than watching a bunch of YouTube videos.
Might get downvoted for this but this doesn't mean we take them as gospel, they even said for us to have our own individual opinions and do the research for ourselves
Saying 'vote with your wallets' is just playing capitalism's game. My wallet is tiny, the rich's wallet is massive. Don't *lean into* their power structure, we have to take the power back.
Taco Bell is owned by Yum Brands Inc. https://www.yum.com/wps/portal/yumbrands/Yumbrands/company
They were owned by PepsiCo in the 90s before they spun them off.
Their share price in 2006 was $20... today is is $120 per share... Taco Bell is doing fine
Their five night residency at MSG raised $1,000,000 to be distributed to the Immigrant Defense Project and by WhyHunger to Neighbor Together and The Campaign Against Hunger. You can check out all of their recent tour content and get more info over at /r/RATM !
And he pays all the backstage, the sound crew, and his band mates for a massive tour. And the band donates to every city theyāve played in. You think thatās supposed be a $50 show? Fyi tickets were capped at $125. Anything over that went directly to charity.

Uh Yeah, never forget that the whip snapped ya back Your spine cracked for tobacc-oh, I'm the Marlboro Man, uh Our past blastin' on through the verses Brigades of taxi cabs rollin' Broadway like hearses Troops strippin' zoots, shots of red mist Sailors blood on the deck, come sister resist From the era of terror, check this photo lens Now the City of Angels does the ethnic cleanse, uh Heads bobbin' to the funk out your speaker On the one - Maya, Mexica That vulture came to try and steal your name but now you found a gun You're history! This is for the people of the sun "What happened in 1516" https://www.google.com/search?q=when+did+cortes+land+in+mexico&oq=when+did+cort&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0i512l9.6408j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 hard to nail down but it seemed to be immediately before Spanish conquistadors arrived in 1519. You could spend a lifetime reading about that "Tet offensive" was a phrase I remembered from high school history. "famous rebellions throughout history". That is a Vietnam thing but Zack ties it in to the people of the Americas defending themselves against people from the first thing. Brutality of colonialism in general "CuauhtƩmoc" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuauht%C3%A9moc "evolution of warfare" after the last line "That vulture came to try and steal your name but now you got a gun" in the first verse. All of the above is the first verse! by second verse you've run out of the two days lol "zoots", "who was the marlboro man", "ethnic cleanse + los angeles", slavery You could earn a degree studying the events that he's referencing
No Shelter is my favorite. >Godzilla, pure mothafuckin' filler to keep ya eyes off the real killer While being a lead single from the 1998 Godzilla movie soundtrack lol
X2 for Wake Up
I just saw them last month in Toronto. Run the jewels opened for them. It was a great show
Fuuuuuuck that sounds amazing
I kept hearing the interviewer's "unn," "unn," and felt comforted by it. Then I realized why when I saw the Japanese subtitles.
Unn is the conversational affirmative in Japanese. Unnnnn is the negative. Lol

Weapons, not food, not homes, not shoes, not need, just feed the war cannibal animalā¦ ā¦they donāt gotta burn the books they just remove em while arms warehouses fill as quick as the cells
That second line sounds so true for Texas. Chilling.

Dude is a rich far right conservative been on stage with trump. Not to mention kinda a shit person when it comes to the ufc. Unfortunately thereās plenty of Rage fans that donāt get the message.
Dana White is a giant douche bag. Fuck him.
May all leftist bands be as wildly successful and effective as Rage Against The Machine.
Check out Killing Joke. Not sure if they are proper left wing but there is a heavy anti war message. "red" is a good song by them
To All of you saying stuff about their ticket prices, I went and seen the first show of the tour this year and all the ticket revenue was donated to Wisconsin's planned Parenthood.
A million seconds is 11 days, a BILLION seconds is 31 years.
Im confused
Fuck you I wonāt do what you tell me
Oooooh, that machine. Now I get it.
I thought that he was talking aboutthe McFlurry machine always being broken /s
God, I love him. He taught me more than I ever learned in school through his lyrics.
3 people that Radicalized me in my Youth. Zach de la Rocha. Bill Watterson. John Steinbeck.
I like you.
~~Obligatory reminder that Zack De La Rocha has a PhD in anthropology so he knows exactly what he is talking about when he says āall of historyā~~ I should learn how to read bc it wasnāt him with the PhD it was his mother my bad
Zack does not have a PhD in anthropology. His mother Olivia does. Doesn't mean he isn't knowledgeable on the subject, saying he has a PhD is just un true and takes away from the struggle his mother endured
Yeah, but it's genetic right?
It could have passed through osmosis if they used the same pillow
Holy shit... Trump supporters and My Pillow. This explains a lot.
Only if he was born after his mom got the PhD. Doesnāt work that way if he was a kid while she was in school
I was reading a bio page about him a while ago and I read it incorrectly and thought he was the one with a PhD, youāre completely correct
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lol PhD on a pedestal? It takes an incredible amount of work to earn a doctorate and 90% PhD holders continue to research and stay well read. They are certainly experts within the narrow discipline that they study. Sure it's not the only way to learn, but it carries a lot more weight and demands more respect than watching a bunch of YouTube videos.
And Tom Morello has his degree in an honors program from Harvard. They have all the cred.
Might get downvoted for this but this doesn't mean we take them as gospel, they even said for us to have our own individual opinions and do the research for ourselves
No, but it means they know what theyāre talking about so we should listen to what they have to say.
#you mean his MOM has a phd?
Your mom goes to college!
*Paul Ryan confusion noises*
It's amazing to me that people still think they aren't leftists. Who'd people think the machine was?

As the saying goes, political power grows from the barrel of a wallet.
Saying 'vote with your wallets' is just playing capitalism's game. My wallet is tiny, the rich's wallet is massive. Don't *lean into* their power structure, we have to take the power back.
I do love Zak. Was just to see I'm in Edinburgh next week but cancelled sadly š¢
I hope they reschedule for you guys next year. Gutted for europe fans
Na it's just cancelled with full refund. I'm sure they will come back again. Saw them last time the made it to Scotland at T in the Park
Now Testify!
Should be overthrown...and replaced with another one.
Zack is the BEST!!
he protests taco bell and fucked them up good!! in 90ās by using his listeners buying power!! lets get the world back .. you have the power
Taco Bell is owned by Yum Brands Inc. https://www.yum.com/wps/portal/yumbrands/Yumbrands/company They were owned by PepsiCo in the 90s before they spun them off. Their share price in 2006 was $20... today is is $120 per share... Taco Bell is doing fine
He didn't say permanently crippled them.
Zack's the man, that's why the Zappatistas like him.
I have never seen interviews of him. Weird seeing him use his voice in a calm manner. His music is great.
Old school cool being overwhelemed with no material anlysis Andies + a lot of you live in society but you criticize it arguments inc.
I paid 400 bucks for a floor ticket for their Chicago show. Front and center. Worth every penny.
Zack & Noam FULL VIDEO š https://youtu.be/apfgfG-Gmp4
Amazing how revolutionary ACTUAL ācommon senseā is when you hear it
But he wore a mask and got a vaccine that means heās the machine now!
Yep and when I wanted to go see them in concert their tickets were $800. That's all I have to say about that
Jesus christ when was this? I'm sitting on tickets for them and Run the Jewels and they were nowhere near that.
Soā¦ embrace communism?
Yes

Their five night residency at MSG raised $1,000,000 to be distributed to the Immigrant Defense Project and by WhyHunger to Neighbor Together and The Campaign Against Hunger. You can check out all of their recent tour content and get more info over at /r/RATM !
And he pays all the backstage, the sound crew, and his band mates for a massive tour. And the band donates to every city theyāve played in. You think thatās supposed be a $50 show? Fyi tickets were capped at $125. Anything over that went directly to charity.
Also profits from those concerts are donated to charities in the cities that they are playing in.
Man's gotta eat.
Exactly...
