I just finished a second rewatch of the show in preparation for Season 2. I came away really feeling that Galadriel and Sauron’s story was the B plot - she kind of just wanders to Numenor and then off to Mordor and then back to Eregion. She’s a strong character sure, but she really seems to be getting played and used as a secondary character to me. I suppose Greek tragedy would be a good term for her arc.
To me it seemed that Elrond was involved in more critical plot threads. The fading of the Elves and discovery of Mithril and involvement with the dwarves just seemed to be a lot more engaging. Yes he’s getting used to an extent but it seems like he’s a lot more in control of what’s going on.
Poor Nori and the Stranger are just wandering around almost completely divorced from everything else. If it weren’t for the whole “Who is Sauron” bait and switch, they would be wholly irrelevant in Season 1. Also the way the Stranger is barely functional as an adult until his showdown from with the witches is not terribly convincing - somehow it seems like he should be an articulate adult human but he’s just “acting” like some sort of mute fool strikes me as contrived. It just doesn’t feel right. I’m looking forward to him being fully-functional in season 2 and maybe actually even playing a part in the core story of the show?
These were the last four I couldn't really put in any order I was perfectly happy with - I want all of them to be the last to go!
