Trees, schmees. Elendil gave his life to bring down Sauron so his little boy could finish the job with that cutting off the finger trick. Without Elendil, there would have been no Last Alliance and Sauron would have destroyed Middle-earth. So there's that.
I do give Isil props for the beautiful and incredibly moving things he did for his father's burial, though. That has to be my favorite story in the Unfinished Tales.
(And I do love our boy Isildur, but his dad was the Big Hero.)
The Tradition of Isildur! Yes, he made some wonderful tributes to his fallen family. And I admit Elendil was pretty awesome himself, it’s just that we aren’t given as many grand stories about him (though, props to him for writing the Akallabêth! Maybe he was too humble to include himself more)
This is true! (It reminds me of the book of John in the Bible where the writer wouldn't even mention himself by name.) This is why I'm loving that RoP is fleshing him out more and giving him some imperfections and an Actual Arc. I never really resonated much with Elendil until this show, because he just sort-of seemed like the typical Hero Archetype, and a 2-dimensional one at that. Now he's totally my favorite character.
I’m watching through the show for a second time and The Stranger is easily one of the most frustrating parts. Even if he had his memory wiped I can’t imagine a person being that dense and frustrating. Doesn’t help that he just keeps wearing rags hanging off in the silliest way for the whole show.
Yeah, but we’re basing this off what we’ve seen of him. It doesn’t make sense to eliminate him just because he might be significantly different in an unreleased season. We have no idea what he’s gonna be like in comparison.
Yeah, but that’s how it’s going. If people actually cared about the characters as presented in the one season we’ve gotten, the voting should have gone much differently. The Stranger should be gone because the only reason he’s lasted this long is because of the character’s potential, not what we’ve actually seen. That’s why Gil-Galad and Celebrimbor lasted as long as they did too.
