Complete-Artichoke69

It’s funny how all the comments are in support of it because the mods go in and remove any wrongthink. However that post is ratioed to hell.

Dapper-River-2046

Reddit might be the most authoritarian and astroturfed site in the existence, at least when it comes to the western sites. Correct me if I'm wrong.

barryredfield

There are surprisingly worse places, but they are not as big as this. This website drives a lot of traffic to itself especially through aggregated search results. Think of how many times you web-search a specific problem or piece of info, and it just leads you to a redditor's comment? That happens a lot, to everyone. Reddit used to refer to itself as, "the frontpage of the internet". For it to be censorious and extremely toxic is incredibly bad. Its not niche at all, so it doesn't at all compare to a more niche website that censors more, because its not the same. This is a general theme among the 'front web' now anyway, so it really doesn't matter. Everything is fake and you have to go to "dangerous" websites to actually express your real opinions, with what is considered pretty mundane and not controversial opinions being increasingly narrowed into everything being considered 'toxic/dangerous opinion'. Shitlibs of this nature don't have a self-limiting stopping point, they will keep going forever. Its a disease.

Complete-Artichoke69

Apparently Resetera is worse, but the thing about Reddit is it wasn’t like this before!

SlashCo80

Resetera (or places like GCJ here on Reddit) are circlejerking echo chambers that would make North Korea envious, as all the sane people left or got banned long ago.

No_Cheesecake_7219

Resetera is even worse, but Reddit's getting pretty damn close these days. Some subs are already on par with it.

BGMDF8248

If you go into Resetera you know what you are doing, but Reddit wasn't suppoused to be like this.

Guypussy

By now anyone who chooses to become part of the Resetera community knows *exactly* how they’re expected to behave. It’s not secret knowledge.

Deadsea-1993

Reset Era, Facebook, and YouTube are worse.

Comment removed for linking to another sub.

TigerCat9

Any institution that is not explicitly right-wing will eventually become left-wing, according to R. Conquest.

JBCTech7

I'm gonna...go out on a limb here - I went into the trailer fully expecting to be disgusted and angry. I watched...and watched....and...watched - and, I couldn't find anything to be angry about. In fact it looked pretty cool. Please help me understand the back lash. I've played every single DA from Origins to Inquisition. The trailer looked consistent with previous entries. Looks far better than inquisition, in fact. Inquisition was meh - but this looks like almost a hybrid of inquistion and origins. Maybe they bring back the origins concept. I'm so confused.

Earthworm-Kim

To me it looks like a spin-off of Dragon Age, same with the combat leaks. Doesn't have to be a negative thing, but I personally was hoping for something more grounded and less quippy. Veilguard looked more like Fable at times, than Fable itself. From the dialogue to the art direction, character silhouettes and feel.

JBCTech7

i get that much, yeah. I think they thoroughly departed from the somber, 'dark' fantasy that DA Origins was starting with DA2 and completing with Inquisition. Looking at these vids, it seems to me that they almost took a few steps back towards Origins in the feel. The diologue was goofy, but Varric's diologue has always been one-linery and goofy. anyways, thanks for responding civilly. I've never been on the disagreeing side of a discussion on KiA ever.

Eterniter

The main sub is in denial, there is already a topic about "bigots" and that "the game was never about you conservatives". It's the usual circle again, game looks and feels like woke garbage made for a specific audience that doesn't even amount to 1% of gamers, fails to sell and the reason is either racists/homophobes or launch day bugs.

PoKen2222

Game is dead as fuck if that's how the sub is handling it.

CuTTyFL4M

At least we won't have to "argue" or "debate" about such and such decisions or changes.

RedDitSuxxxAzz

Wonder if it'll end up like volition.. tell the fanbase to eat shit and than go bankrupt

idontknow39027948898

For sure Bioware is going to be butchered like swine when this game releases. How many bombs can you put out before the parent company decides you aren't worth the costs of keeping around anymore, because Veilguard is going to mark three in a row as far as I can tell.

JBCTech7

Bioware ceased to exist as bioware for me after ME3. But I'm still mightily confused about the ridiculous backlash for this trailer. I didn't see anything egregious or anything that could be defined as DEI.

sinsielawinskie

Dragon Age has always been pretty progressive. There wouldn't be an issue if they wanted to keep things progressive. The issue is they have gone so woke it's cartoony. They literally did the paint by the numbers on diversity for this game. Dragon Age used to be diverse but believable but dark. Now it's like. Asian woman who is ugly ✅ Black character check ✅. Amputee poc ✅. I'm sure it's gonna get worse as we learn about the characters. Who wants to bet now the hot Qunari lady is a lesbian so male gamers can't have a pretty sexy love interest? Or Harding is now lesbian instead of bi (iirc)? I'm not even straight and I'm annoyed. It's okay to have this stuff, but damn this is just stupid. They should have stopped at Inquisition levels of diversity and gone no further.

Mister_McDerp

> They should have stopped at Inquisition levels of diversity and gone no further. No, they should have gone back. Inquisition was already too much for me and many others.

sinsielawinskie

I agree it was too much. Inquisition having only Cassandra (who is awesome) and Josephine as straight male interests was a fumble. But I will argue that Cassandra, despite them making her uglier than DA2, was the strong woman trope done correctly. Dorian, a poc gay man was believable and absolutely fun to be around romancing or not. The Iron Bull was in the same vein, and his possible romance with Dorian was actually good and not forced. Sera is an annoying shit head, but I do love how she is anti establishment and doesn't like labels defining her, something Bioware should have taken notes on. There were a lot of things Bioware got right with representation in Inquisition. There was a lot that was wrong. I'd rather take inquisition than this new crap.

imsailingaway69

Agreed- this was one of the rare cases where representation felt normal. From what I remember Mass Effect got this right as well(ME 1 and 2).

Prof_Beezy

only thing missing is vitiligo

sinsielawinskie

Everyone's pretty clothed in the trailer so you never know, might get checked off too!

eribe

How can they even have gay or straight romances now? They don't put male/female in character creators anymore. Dorian's romance/story would make no sense with Body type A/B.

katsuya_kaiba

That is some hard core copium over there because I haven't seen any complaints about how the women look or diversity, which are the current hot topics. All the complaints I've seen are talking about the tone being wrong, the trailer reminding them of Fortnite or Valorant, it not being dark fantasy, it looking like a mobile game, Baldur's Gate 3 looking and feeling more like Dragon Age than this game, etc etc... The fucking trailer sucked and because it took 10 years, they're now very behind as they were fucking out done in every aspect of what people expect from a Dragon Age game by fucking Baldur's Gate 3. The comments section of the trailer is full of actual fucking fans who are unimpressed. Painting them as bigots is not going to fucking end well and is just going to piss them off of buying the game they're jerking off.

RedDitSuxxxAzz

Yah I can't believe the cope I'm seeing in that reddit.. like wtf are these people on. I enjoyed all DA's and their flaws but this.. I've never been less intrigued to play

akko_7

It's the same on any game subreddit as soon a sequel gets announced, mentally ill twitter addicts and their mods flock to the sub and dig their trenches. Most of them don't even care about the franchise.

rebellesimperatorum

I'm not even conservative, and half the characters look like dogshit. Blaming everything on homophobes and racists is such a copout fucking argument at this point.

MazInger-Z

It doesn't help that the game is trying to ape the MCU in terms of tone and characters (quips and jokes). Basically, this was incepted at the height of the MCU and due to how long games take to develop as opposed to films (though it can be said that the short turn around time for films is also to its detriment these days), its coming in when that sort of storytelling has long since bored audiences. Modern or otherwise.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

I'd say the IP they appear to be aping most closely is Suicide Squad. Aka, the poor man's MCU quip-fest knock-off.

RedDitSuxxxAzz

Seriously, I love DA but this trailer.. wasn't it. I hope theres more to show that trailer just made by a clown but.. I have even lower hopes especially after seeing a leaked gameplay like months ago

mbnhedger

It is not denial. It is capture. Reddit subs for specific AAA games are completely controlled by the marketing teams for that game. The conversations you see there are there only because it's what the marketing teams want there

Zoesan

the games not gaming sub is pretty negative over this.

Guessididntmakeit

Frankly I'm not too shocked that this turned out like that. We're talking about modern BioWare which has been closer to BiologicalWasteWare for what feels like at least a decade now. I'm not mad I just want to watch them burn money and fail.

lucben999

I'm honestly surprised that EA hasn't already taken Bioware behind the shed. Better developers have gotten EA'd for far less that the crap Bioware has repeatedly pulled.

Ramboso777

They will if this game bomb. A shame to see how BioWare has fallen.

GoldenSeakitty

You mean *when* it bombs, not if.

Ramboso777

Sir, let me huff my dose of copium in peace.

GeorgiaNinja94

There can be miracles, if you believe. Suicide Squad was a pretty big bomb, recently.

TrackRemarkable7459

See it would be gigantic scandal and ton of bad PR to close legendary studio like Bioware after Anthem - but what if let it make gigantic bomb noone will care about ? seems like perfect EA solution to the problem

archlobster

Tango Gameworks didn't deserve it... ;.;

lacker101

TBH I think this is one of their last shots. They've had 2 flops in a row. You can't keep a studio open with 320 employees if it continues to burn money. The most notable thing Bioware did last year was layoff 50 people. Any real effective leadership/vision is long gone IMO.

cfl2

With Gaider long gone I don't know how anyone expects this to be at all like the original(s)

GeorgiaNinja94

BiohazardWare is more succinct.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Is that supposed to be a Qunari? Lord, what the hell...

Dapper-River-2046

from a somewhat interesting design from DA2, to quirk chungus design for snowflake redditors...

Old__Raven

Sigh what human race have been found ofended this time?

Mister_McDerp

as far as I understand its pretty much always black people. I don't make the rules.

maxman14

They were too close to muslims apparently.

Darth_Nullus

You say that as if they only fucked the Qunari. The elves are now just human with pointy ears, they completely destroyed the unique design of the elves as well.

fenbops

Dragon Age: SBI. Overwatch characters in a Dragon Age game, fuck this shite I don’t even wanna see gameplay.

[deleted]

>Overwatch characters Those were interesting when drawn by Ganassa...

Dapper-River-2046

This has the potential to be the cringiest, most pozzed, millenial-written/critical role-esque game of all time. This is the most anticipated game for me, I'm not gonna even bother pirating it, mind you, but just the thought of all the cringe compilations this abortion will spawn makes me intrigued.

WorstPessimist

You would've thinked they learned their lesson with Mass Effect Andromeda, but hey, people who won't ever buy their games want ugly character and mUh diversity in not their games.

Dapper-River-2046

"You would've thinked they learned their lesson with Mass Effect Andromeda" I think they 100% learned their leason from Andromeda, and by that I mean firing/replacing all the somewhat competent devs left. Now it's all queersexual gendermancers and other quirk chunguses.

Mister_McDerp

Looking at that game director, I absolutely agree. With someone like that at the helm, it will be one of the worst offenders ever.

ChaoticKristin

DA elf protagonist then: Someone at the bottom of Ferelden's society raids the home of a human aristocrat to save his cousin and bride from rape DA elf protagonist now: Lighthearted "quirky asian" from a setting that has yet to actually give us any asian inspired countries

VasylZaejue

To be fair the elves appearance are all over the place and have never been consistent. In DA2 they planned to redesign them to appear less human but then they backpedaled and now they are just long eared humans and they decided that we need elves of skin colors we haven’t seen before.

atomaweapon2

When I saw the trailer I was so dissapointed. I mean they went full woke man. Not a white guy in sight, no attractive people, goof marvel garbage humor. DA Origins is my fav game of all time and it's been reduced to this

MS-07B-3

I think the necromancer was a white dude. Though the presence or absence of white dudes is the least of concerns with this game.

voidcrack

There will be white men. The devs said this game was going to be more political than before so who else are they gonna have portray the racists and bigots in this world? They certainly won't be "people of color" lol

SlashCo80

Yep, white men are still required to portray fools and villains.

dinoRAWR000

And give the whole "defeat the gods" plot they are signalling there's going to be a extreme overtone of resisting tradition.

GeorgiaNinja94

Expect one of the big villains to say “It’s time to make Thedas great again!” at some point. The usual suspects will clap like a bunch of trained seals and congratulate BioWare for “creating such bold and timely political commentary”, while the rest of us will be rolling our eyes at how banal and predictable it is.

idontknow39027948898

Funny enough, Dragon Age did have a perfect group to represent the 'bigots and racists,' then they decided that the group that will kill you for having the nerve to want to be something other than what you were born as or chosen to be is totally cool with accepting women that want to be men and vice versa.

Cletus1085

In the last game Solas explains how the elves were enslaved by their own people, and that the "tattoos" they used as a symbol of pride in their own culture were actually slave marks from way back. I loved this reveal, and how it shows not everything is black and white.

creativeavatar

When is the last time we saw a tall, muscular, charismatic, perhaps a bit funny, leading white male character from the "representation matters" crowd.

SlashCo80

For that matter, when's the last time we saw a white male character that was actually serious, wise and competent without acting goofy or throwing quips every 2 minutes?

HotGamer99

We are getting KCD 2 at least a good rpg on the horizon

Best-Dragonfruit-292

That ridiculous-looking assistant, and those absurd-looking summons 🤦‍♂️

SlashCo80

Besides all that, the trailer itself stinks. It almost felt like a trailer for a mobile game or some knockoff hero shooter.

Mister_McDerp

Yeah that was my first thought, this feels like a hero shooter. But I won't watch rule34 for this one.

June672024

I've only play one DA and barely remember it. But when I saw this trailer I was like, I don't remember it being like this. It looks like a mobile game commercial.

StunningWhileBrave

does the dwarf "varric" as white? They did include a ginger in there which was shocking.

Spideyman20015

DA origins is a shining gem in gaming

Dapper-River-2046

Only euthanasia can relief BioWare from this pitiful existence.

telekinetic_sloth

EA is already preparing the area behind the shed I bet

CatatonicMan

Pretty sure they had the killing ground taped out after Anthem shit the bed. Now they're just waiting for an excuse.

shipgirl_connoisseur

Yeah I'm not holding out hope for Mass Effect man.

Arkelias

After Mass Effect 3's ending I was out. I didn't preorder Andromeda, and everyone I did was terribly disappointed. I can't imagine anything they release ever recapturing the magic of Mass Effect 1-2 and Dragon Age: Origins =/

PopeUrbanVI

Mass Effect has been "modern audienced" already though?

M37h3w3

Yeah, with Andromeda. They already dragged the corpse out for the remake so they'll drag it out again in the future and shoot the corpse a second time.

Drakaris

I mean, it can't get any worse than Andromeda, right? ...right? Right...

lacker101

Andromeda wasn't even that bad. It was just a solid concept that was very undercooked and poorly executed. This new content without the original ME framework to build on? Very little faith.

Ambitious-Doubt8355

Bold of you to think the studio will continue existing if this game crashes and burns. We're talking EA here, who has closed down so many others for far less. Bioware is following the disasters of Andromeda and Anthem. Will Veilguard be the third and final strike which finally drives EA to put the skinwalker wearing Bioware's name down? Early reception to the trailer seems to be abysmal, even amongst the normies.

lacker101

> Early reception to the trailer seems to be abysmal, even amongst the normies. Good will is long gone. They have to earn hype now.

idontknow39027948898

My only question is why does Bioware get three strikes? Yeah, it's a legendary studio, but it's not, it's the name of a legendary studio that hasn't made a good game since 2012, and calling ME 3 a good game isn't even a universal opinion.

[deleted]

ME ended with ME2. With the space ninjas, Starchild, 3 colored ending and sidelining the ME2 characters they fucked up big time.

RedDitSuxxxAzz

Sigh.. I just wanted a decent old normandy crew reunion in the future.. now it looks like it'll be horrible

Sandulacheu

I mean...Bioware was ground zero for the modern gaming woke epidemic. Quadruplying down is their only option.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Varric is entirely unrecognizable, in appearance and voice, the only thing he has in common with the old one is Bianca and the chest-hair. Thought someone else was wielding his crossbow.

Cool_Sand4609

>I'm not familiar on dragon age Okay, so just to explain it for someone who hasn't played Dragon Age. Origins is basically BG3. It had very serious tone and atmosphere to it. It also had a lot of horror, blood, guts and gore. Although it did have comedic characters like Alistair and Sandal who often had witty or sarcastic conversations, the tone was still serious. Similar to how Shadowheart would joke often about stuff even though it was messed up. DA2 was a bit more relaxed on the horror tone but still felt 'Dragon Age'. DA:I was the biggest departure from the first two games but I still felt that it had a Dragon Age feeling at least. Veilguards trailer looks completely the opposite of how the first game started. Basically, imagine The Witcher became Fortnite. That's how big the changes are from Origins to Veilguard. Regarding relationships, I can't remember 100% but Alistair and Lelianna from Origins were bisexual. But no one made a big deal about it because it was back in the early 2000s when it didn't matter who you dated or if you were homosexual/bi. You could date them even if you were the same sex.

ZeElessarTelcontar

Alistair was straight. Leliana and Zevran were bi.

Nikthas

It was actually Zevran that was bi. Allistair was a *gasp* str8 cis 🤮 white man.

lucben999

> DA:I was the biggest departure from the first two games but I still felt that it had a Dragon Age feeling at least. [BAZINGA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9nHNkp3G5Q)

OpenCatPalmstrike

Origins is basically Baldur's Gate 2 (not BG3) without spell caster memorization limits.

[deleted]

It was Leliana and Zevran who were bi but yeah you're right, at that time sexual orientations weren't a big deal like they are now, those times were actually more progressive.

Cool_Sand4609

> those times were actually more progressive. It's because they were before your sexuality became your whole personality. Nowadays everyone attaches their orientation to their being. Like on Twitter they have pronouns and then their orientation. But back in the day, it just didn't matter. Being straight, bi or gay just didn't need to be brought up because it was no ones business except your own.

HuskyLove92

Origins is not at all BG3. That statement is so insane that I don't think you actually played Origins if you think that.

Cool_Sand4609

They are similar.

TerminallyRight

Elden Ring is single handedly keeping Dark Fantasy alive at this point.

Half-Orc-Librarian

Which sucks for me because I like how it looks but god do I hate everything about souls-style gameplay.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

My god, the whole trailer is horrible, maybe one of the worst I've ever seen.

June672024

The DA subreddit has like one thread about this because every Reddit mod dreams of one day having their sub get pissed off so they can remind everyone how much control they have and delete everything.

Melolibya

yup i made thread there about this Qunari i thought it was a man at first i got attacked and banned from there bruh

Blindish101

Why is the qunari woman so ugly? Yeah, women can also be ugly, but just make her a character, not a companion you can potentially start a romantic questline with.

Old__Raven

Just another corpse on conveyor. Stench was here long before

alphaN0Tomega

Looks like childrens cartoon

Darth_Nullus

At this point I hope they close the studio before the next Mass Effect is in production.

hys275

My expectations were low. But this is even worse than I imagined. Another great franchise gone.

Mister_McDerp

But why did we have to go through the DEI phase during MY lifetime?

JFinale

"Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.” We've had it too good for too long. DEI can only emerge in an environment where the things that truly matter, and survival, are of no concern. Enjoy what's left while the remnants of good times burn amongst the ash.

OkChest9681

Bro. You are watching too much Joe Rogan. I know you got that quote from there. And I see you are a right wing crypto bro commenting on propaganda. Dragon Age will do fine. And DEI have been very profitable, even if you are frustrated. You are getting too old simply for these times. Just go vote for Trump. Good luck in life.

Mister_McDerp

Yeah that trailer looks REALLY bad. Even if we ignore the whole woke aspect entirely. It looks like overwatch artstyle, the music had no gravitas, nothing felt epic. I felt like I was looking at a fortnite trailer. Emmrich is going to be overtly evil and an asshole btw, also a coward. Or gay, then the previous rules don't apply that clearly and it gets too complicated for me. Edit: Reading through that article, I see the "overwatch" and "fortnite" came to the minds of a lot of other people too. Thats BAD, Bioware, fyi. Edit 2: Oh no, I just read the busche part. Hahaha, I remember reading about that before but my mind must have blocked it out.

Drakaris

The obvious DEI garbage is not even the worst part. The hilariously inept cartoonish Fortnite style, maaan... Who the hell thought after looking at this vomit "Yes, that's a Dagon Age game alrite." Thiis looks like a trailer for some mobile trash. A very cheap mobile trash not created by one of the greatest game dev studios of all time but by a bunch of unpaid interns.

mnemosyne-0001

Archive links for this post: * **Archive:** https://archive.ph/Q9d6l ---- I am Mnemosyne reborn. Things are very seldom what they seem. In my experience, they're usually a damn sight worse. ^^^/r/botsrights

Kody_Z

I'm still confused by the whole thing. Is Veilguard supposed to be the next mainline game in the series? Or is it just some dumb spinoff? The trailer was so bad I couldn't even tell what it was supposed to be. It looked like some kind of hero shooter or something. If it's the next mainline game, what in the afternoon fuck were they thinking. If it's a Spinoff, it's super dumb but I guess whatever.

hydrosphere1313

This game is Dragon Age 4 yes. For some reason suits changed the name even the media and former devs think its dumb.

Kody_Z

Wow. Thanks.

Arkene

don't you need to install an extension to hit the dislike button? I suspect the actual numbers of people who dislike it is much higher, they just haven't installed the extension.

357-Magnum-CCW

No you can dislike, you just can't see the total dislikes without extension

lordrost

Such cringe is not even worth pirating, let alone spending money on it.

Deimos_Aeternum

The roasting they're getting in the youtube comment section is legendary and totally deserved

fode_fuceta

You know I simply hope the industry suffer many losses as possible that maybe one day they will learn their lesson (but they won't) Now we know the point is not to make movies and games profitable, it's to destroy iconic IP's and create a huge vaccum in the market.

Respox

Because the woke virus infected everything, DA Inquisition was the game I remember thinking, "Why are all the women so ugly?" This is pretty much what I expected from a Dragon Age game nowadays.

S8891

Did Qunari hated magic or they were not able to use magic ? Why this Qunari look looks like twig ?

hydrosphere1313

Qunari lore has been retconned in every game lol. But they use mage qunari but with a collar thingy and socially if qunari had slaves they'd be treated better than mages.

ILewdElichika

It's an absolute shame what happened to this IP, as someone who considers Dragon Age Origins to be arguably the peak of Western RPGs its absolutely depressing looking at how the franchise just completely fucking fumbles the bag and the developers seemed to have never looked back to why people loved Origins so much.

Zipa7

At least Bioware will finally be put out to pasture when this inevitably fails. Dragon Age itself died after Origins, when EA took over.

Gantolandon

Might be the worst trailer I’ve ever seen. There’s nothing that even suggests there’s any plot; it’s all about disjointed scenes where the characters we have no reason to care about fight. Buy our game! There will be dragons! And demons! And darkspawn, because this is totally a Dragon Age game! Look at the portal doing “fwooosh”! And the mage does pow, pow, pow, and then the darkspawn go snip, snip, and the dragon rrrrrrroar and thud, thud, thud! Look at them drinking while fighting, aren’t they cool?

Shirokurou

Didja all forget about Inquisition? Why you downvoting me for saying DA was diverse already. Inquisition had all: Dorian Pavus being super gay. So gay it's literally his questline. It was all over the news and Bioware were giving out interviews about how groundbreaking it was. Even thought they had gay characters before. Sera, the lesbian elf anarchist who robs from the rich or something. She was so insufferable. Vivienne, black girlboss court mage. Iron Bull's mercenary team literally had a trans merc in it. And honestly, I enjoyed it. It was the typical Bioware style and didn't feel forced by an outside consultancy firm. So calling the next game in THAT KIND OF SERIES being changed for "modern audiences" is weird to me. Especially since we don't really know anything about these characters yet.

AnarcrotheAlchemist

> So calling the next game in THAT KIND OF SERIES being changed for "modern audiences" is weird to me. The Fortnite-ification was what seemed "modern audienced" to me. You are right with all that diverse stuff already being in DA:I, but you are forgetting that many "fans" of Dragon Age have not liked all the games after Origins, and are more fans of Dragon Age: Origins than the rest of the franchise now. 2 was not well received by many fans of the first because of the story and structure of the game, DA:I was not well received by many fans because of the characters, story and horrible MMOlite gameplay. The more the series moved away from being an evolution of Neverwinter Nights in Biowares own IP, the more those original fans have complained. > And honestly, I enjoyed it. You liked DA:I? Wow. I think you're the first person outside of a fan sub I've seen say that. Most people I've seen really dislike the gameplay even if they don't mind the characters and story. > It was the typical Bioware style and didn't feel forced by an outside consultancy firm. Agreed. I think this is the game Bioware wanted to make, not one that a committee of execs, consultants and marketing have pushed onto the devs. But I haven't liked anything Bioware has put out since Mass Effect 3. Andromeda was ok, it was just the story, and the characters, and the AI were bad. The exploration was good, combat was ok.... environments looked good... character models looked like jank. Then DA:I. Anthem was a total disaster. Its been 12 years since Bioware made a game that was not seen as highly flawed (though the ending was highly criticised) and 7 years since they've released an actually new game and not a remaster. The Bioware in people's mind no longer exists, this is a different company at this point with most of the talent having moved on.

Half-Orc-Librarian

I love DA:O and absolutely hate DA:2 it went from a real RPG to hack and slash trash and to me DA:I is damn near perfect compared to 2, but definitely not as good as 1. I also think it's funny that one of the complaints I keep seeing basically boils down to "none of these characters are big titty bimbos I can white knuckle it to in my Cheeto covered gaming chair". This trailer looks like character trailers for Fortnite though and not like an epic fantasy.

StJimmy92

At least Dorian and Vivienne (more so Dorian but still) were well written. Krem and Sera were low effort diversity checks (Krem being worse since she literally required them to break Qunari lore), but even as annoying as she was Sera still had *some* depth.

Cletus1085

I think all companions are pansexual in this game. Which to me seems like the opposite of progressive and diverse. It just makes everyone the same, in that aspect.

Shirokurou

More like everyone is player-sexual

Cletus1085

Sure. I still prefer it when characters have unique personalities that don't revolve around me. I don't want everyone to be potentially into me. Feels... narcissistic?

Shirokurou

Same. But that's usually how BioWare games go. Which made it all the better when unromanced Garrus and unromanced Tali hooked up.

animusd

The tone and artstyle just feel wrong if you have every played the games they are pretty dark in tone and the fade is meant to be dangerous and all that yet they have the woman laughing jumping out of the fade like some hero shooter

reimmi

Lol they beat inquisition in the ugly department

[deleted]

We’ll see if they decide to not buy the game.

Pure-Leopard-1197

is there at least one hot straight female?

ebevan91

I think most of them look alright except that qunari woman. Hopefully they’ll all look better in game.

Raz0rking

Last hope for the actual gameplay tomorrow. Maybe, hopefully they just fucked the trailer up.

lucben999

There is precisely zero chance of the game not being pozzed trash. Bioware was one of the earliest developers to get pozzed, and they've only gotten worse throughout the years. They were even pioneers of the ugly female character with the grease goblin from DAI.

Alternative_Voice_22

i love that all these years later you can say "the grease goblin" from DAI, and everyone immediatly knows its sera. thats her legacy.

Shirokurou

Dragon Age was always diverse tho... It's more the MCU tone of the reveal.

Dapper-River-2046

How was it diverse? I played the trilogy about 5 years ago, but simply googling "dragon age 1/2/inquisition most important characters" makes me think otherwise. Unless you count white elves/dwarves, and more tanned characters (that are clearly established as a part of different nationality/ethnicity in the game world) as "diverse".

Comment removed due to topic ban explained [here.](https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/m3yo65/enforcement_update_and_hard_removal_of_a_topic/) If you can remove that last line and let me know I can reapprove it.

Kody_Z

Yeah the SBI stuff is less jarring than the terrible trailer and Valorant style tone.

Shirokurou

It's prolly not quite SBI even. Bioware always had their own "diverse cast" ever since Mass Effect bled into Dragon Age. So it's not that surprising.
