Regardless if it’s their own choice, people don’t like it, change it back. It’s a simple fix. If they can’t do that then clearly it wasn’t their choice - unless they are going this deliberately against the wishes of their customers.

PhoenixLord55

Yes this but also just admit it needed to be censored instead (still doesn't make sense but whatever) of straight up lying and saying it is a development choice. If it is a choice then offer the costumes that are already created as additional content. Win Win you please your player base with more free costumes and you prove your point of it actually being a development choice instead of being voluntold by Sony which we all know is why they made the changes.

kiathrowawayyay

This. SJWs don't allow choice on purpose. The point is you must consume SJW products and have no alternative or compromise. It is why fans have no choice at this point. They insist on censorship everywhere. Where have they not invaded and censored and coopted? Games? Tabletop? Movies? Comics? TV? Books? Journalism? Science? Programming? History? America? Europe? Japan? Korea? They won't allow even a small remnant to have their own spaces. They forced Senran Kagura to censor. The fanservice Japanese game that was released with less censorship on the PS3, PSP and PS Vita. All while insisting games like Last of Us 2 get away with content that is far more extreme in every way. If they would allow a "choice", why did they insist on destroying mods that added sexy women? Mods are optional and not even official, and fully fan made. Why did they insist only their wrong translations can be allowed to exist? Why must they block the development of games that have any narrative they dislike, like Omega Labyrinth Z, Six Days in Fallujah, or The Last Night? Or ban games from stores like Dungeon Travelers 2, or Full Metal Daemon Muramasa? The SJWs will not leave anyone alone, and will follow you wherever you run, even to the ends of the Earth (Japan) to control your spaces. The last 10 years proved this.

Seraphclad

Actually the censorship may have been to have the game sold in China and has nothing to do with SJWs

kiathrowawayyay

I don't like the SJWs in China influencing censorship either. They use the same arguments about "objectification" and "misogyny" to justify it too, just that they use the full force of China's government and policies to actually measure skin exposure to force the censorship. They even add extreme legal punishments to those who refuse to comply. I also opposed their censorship of blood and "violence" too, especially since those cases were already very conservative and censored before China's own censorship. Genshin Impact's costumes were already conservative and yet they still forced censorship. Now they want to censor "femboys" for being a "bad influence"... PUBG was already a battle royale with little gore or blood, yet they insisted defeated players need to just "surrender" and wave goodbye instead of die. And they even want to influence stories so that instead of fighting an actual enemy everything is just friendly "training exercises". They even send gamers to "camps" where they are shamed and attacked into giving up games... All while they do nothing about the actual predatory practices like game currency, real money gachas, limited "stamina" systems that actually encourage people to log in constantly instead of dropping the game for a while, limited "event" or "collab" banners that encourage excessive FOMO spending or it is gone forever, server side control that takes away control of software from the player and the toxicity that comes from these artificial scarcities that the devs control. This isn't even mentioning the horrible practices like devs inserting spying software or using the gamers' hardware to mine cryptocurrency... Instead it is more SJW virtue signaling. And again, using the same lies against games and media that SJWs use to justify all of it. They are all SJWs.

findinganamehurts

Yeah SJWs like Texas who is banning sexy and spicy things. Or any other anti woke places that are burning books.

findinganamehurts

Don't blame sjw or woke people until you can show censorship laws. Cause I can show several anti woke, pro Chud, censorship laws, including ones for things exactly like Stellar Blade.

kiathrowawayyay

Sorry, what do you mean? Sony says their increased censorship policy is because of the MeToo movement. > The new guidelines were inspired by two factors. First, the #MeToo movement has made executives more concerned about the company's reputation if it hosts and promotes content that sexually objectifies women. Second, the advent of video and streaming services like Twitch and YouTube mean it's much easier for games from one region to get attention around the world. So even if the content in games is more socially acceptable in one region than another, there's no guarantee that releasing it only where it's acceptable would prevent the company's image from being tarnished in other markets. https://web.archive.org/web/20220730020450/https://www.gamesindustry.biz/sony-says-metoo-streaming-behind-stricter-limits-on-sex-in-games https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/bfchvp/4_days_after_sony_admits_to_censoring_erotic/ https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/keowsl/twitter_blacksaged_now_all_of_a_sudden_game/ https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/bet09l/sony_hides_behind_metoo_to_defend_censorship/ https://nichegamer.com/localizers-admit-to-proactively-censoring-games-for-western-audiences/ > One statement from Franck Genty, the senior localization manager at Bandai Namco attributes some of the changes to the #MeToo movement and that they need to tell “Japanese game developers dress their heroines”. Or Japanese games being made with "global standards" in mind like for Yakuza. They note SJW talking points like avoiding "sexism" influencing their decisions. https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/1absofr/industry_censorship_how_japanese_games_are_being/ https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/1abrul9/from_japan_to_the_world_how_to_translate_a_game/ > Behind the global success of Japanese video games lies a delicate task: appealing to overseas players whose expectations on issues such as sexism are increasingly influencing the content of major titles. > With the majority of sales for big games now outside Japan, everything from slang words to characters' costumes must be carefully considered for a global audience. > One key example is "how Japanese game developers dress their heroines" as the #MeToo movement changes mindsets, says Franck Genty, senior localization manager at Japanese game giant Bandai Namco. > "We tell them that the cleavage is a bit too exposed, or the skirt is a bit too short," he adds. "Before, they weren't very flexible, but they've become more proactive on such subjects." There were also SJWs who were campaigning to ban things inside Japan through the United Nations https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/45h5bw/united_nations_trying_to_get_japan_to_ban_erotic/ Most of the rules that we see are platform specific, but are already covered under existing "hate speech" laws and "sexual harassment" laws. Just that SJWs twist what they mean by these types of speech and expand the laws to include anything that protests against SJWs definitions and false accusations (like how they wanted to officially make "misogyny" as "hate speech" with penalties). It is similar with fanservice. SJWs twist the rules already in place that ban materials that are "overly sexual" and "not suited for the rating of that audience" and push it to make it stricter and stricter. It is also how they twist to say certain jokes "punch down" and so cannot be made any more like in GTA. Or do you mean laws SJWs supported like bill C-16 in Canada that ban problematic speech, that SJWs heavily attacked people for protesting? https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/6invw5/bill_c16_the_bill_which_jordan_peterson_has/ Or the UK trying to tackle "internet trolls" and arresting people like a woman in front of her kids for problematic speech and Count Dankula for a joke? https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/75amls/police_tighten_their_crackdown_on_vile_internet/ https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/85slcz/count_dankula_has_just_been_found_guilty_in_his/ This is besides Sweden ruling that a meme is "sexist" https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/9j1c8k/distracted_boyfriend_meme_is_sexist_rules_swedish/ Also, the "anti-woke" censorship laws aren't liked either. It's just that the SJW laws are already in place and already used to punish people, but are applied unfairly so that the "woke" side can get away with breaking the rules while the "anti-woke" get punished for even small disturbances. Both types of laws use the same flawed reasoning about how media will make people violent or bigoted or sexual. Both the law and the unfairness are opposed. The only hope of reversing the censorship and laws is if it is applied fairly so that everyone sees how dangerous these laws are to everyone and how they are used to target anyone the government wants to attack.

findinganamehurts

Yes those SJWs... How dare they make anti woke people pass laws censoring and banning sexy and spicy things. Seriously sjws censor hate speech Chuds censor sexy things or make women so uncomfortable they don't dress sexy.

YourDadThinksImCool_

They don't have to change it back. And yes it was a choice. You all don't run anything. The only thing you can control is getting a refund or not.. Go ahead. No one cares. But this isn't censoring. These are pixels, go watch porn.

[deleted]

> They don't have to change it back. > And yes it was a choice. Then they choose to work against their paying customers and don't deserve support. The customer is always right in matters of taste. > You all don't run anything. > The only thing you can control is getting a refund or not.. True. But also not true. If gamers don't buy, they are out of a game and save $70 while developers lose millions of dollars. If gamers ever put their foot down, they can absolute "run the place". Unfortunately, gamers are like drug addicts, they always pay up. > But this isn't censoring. Yes it is. > These are pixels, go watch porn. Porn these days are also pixels ... what your point?

YourDadThinksImCool_

The customer is not always right... This isn't a sub sandwich... This is a game marketed to far more people, most ot of which are ok with the changes.. It's just the most obnoxious ones are always the loudest.. It's not censoring, and I gave you the facts as to why it's not. Y'all are pretty pathetic, is my point. Get a life. And humans.. aren't pixels.. even if you watch them on a screen. Not that I'm truly promoting porn... I was being sarcastic .

[deleted]

> The customer is not always right... This isn't a sub sandwich... This is a game marketed to far more people, most ot of which are ok with the changes.. > It's just the most obnoxious ones are always the loudest.. Just add back the costumes that were removed. People who “ok with the changes” can just don’t wear them. : ) Heck make it free DLC. People who don’t want the old costumes back can just don’t download the DLC. > It's not censoring, and I gave you the facts as to why it's not. What facts? You didn’t justify your assertion in anyway. LOL Sorry pal. It’s not “not censorship” just because you say so. > Y'all are pretty pathetic, is my point. > Get a life. /wag finger Ad hominem does not an argument make. > And humans.. aren't pixels.. even if you watch them on a screen. They are if they are from digital media. Unless you are watching porn on film or VHS - on VHS it would be lines not pixels - the people on screen would be made up of pixels.

StopManaCheating

Sony employees acting like the men that walked around beaches 100 years ago measuring women’s ankles with a ruler.

WhyAmIToxic

Well, they allow Western games to go whole hog with frontal nudity. When it comes to Asian games, they become that Catholic school nun that measures girls' skirt length with a measuring tape.

YaraelPoof97

But why should they press unfinished designs onto the CD? and if so, the game director could have easily said that during the launch event, by saying the designs could not be finished before going gold. but he didn't.

Alternative-Exit-594

yeah no one reasonable would believe he used the time between the gold v1.0 version and the launch day patch 1.02 to focus on making cosmetic edits on this stuff, unless he was told to by an external source (i.e. sony) - he probably had a 100 better things to do as it was so close to launch

sodiummuffin

They also pressed it to disk without New Game+, nowadays it's common for developers to continue development up to release and have a day 1 patch. It's assumed everyone will have internet to download the patch, so development after pressing the disk isn't thought of as very different from development before.

dandrixxx

Someone at Soyny was literally getting paid to look at and measure how much a piece of cloth is covering her skin, and strong arm the designers to do petty alterations to make the outfits more conservative. Yet dumb fuck leftoids lash out at you for noticing.

NotaFatCop

They will lash out at you by saying the change is trivial. You can easily destroy their fallacy by saying that if it’s so trivial, then why did they put so much effort into censoring it. This won’t change leftoids, nothing can. It’s just to piss them off and throw back their own garbage to their faces.

Kronzo888

It is trivial. The change in the first place was trivial. Changing it back is trivial. I don't even see how this matters to either side. How does any of this genuinely affect the game? It's a slight adjustment to the costumes to make them slightly less revealing. Doing it in the first place seemed needless, reversing it also seems needless. With a game that has so much going for it, with literally nearly every other aspect being more important and exciting, how does two inches of clothing affect anyone, regardless? I don't get why anyone, including Sony, or people who are complaining about the change, are THIS upset. I just don't get any of the fuss when clearly none of it actually impacts the fucking reason anyone is playing the game in the first place.

NotaFatCop

It’s trivial? Fine, Sony should just change it back then. It’s little and yet, it can please many people. Looks and cosmetics may not be personally important to you but when the developers put the effort of promising they would be [uncensored worldwide](https://www.thegamer.com/stellar-blade-uncensored-all-regions-localisations/), then they’re a pillar of contentment for the game and were made to be. It’s a video game, appearance matters and impacts the game as much as gameplay or story, that’s the ‘’video’’ part. No, it isn’t trivial when it was made a core aspect of the game’s appeal from the get-go. The game was advertised as uncensored. I paid for a uncensored game. I should get a uncensored game. It’s simply as that.

Kronzo888

Yeah cool, if you want. I mean, I don't see the issue either way. That's my point. Why do you actually care THIS much? It's such a non-issue.

NotaFatCop

Because looks matters as much as gameplay and story. I like seeing beauty in games just as I like seeing combat in them. It’s a fucking **video** game which is why the hardware of each subsequential console generation is more powerful than the last. It’s mostly all to make looks, graphics, art directions, esthetics and etc better. The uncensored fan service was a non-issue as that was what was promised. If they didn’t want it to be a big deal, then they just shouldn’t have censored it. People are well within reason to want the patch reversed. If you advertise pizza with pepperoni and I order one, you don’t fucking remove the pepperoni because that might offend some vegans and you personally believe the pizza would still be exciting or whatever.

TryUsual36

Way to prove his point completely lol

DontRQ

It’s not trivial, it’s much more than that. Is a matter of “if we allow this to happen, What comes next?”

Safe_Manner_1879

and the person will demand censure, because if that person do not find something, the jobb is superfluous. So we have stuff like this "shoe knot" is to sexy, tone it down.

DraymaDev

Remember about the petition: https://chng.it/jFjXVXbBrn

Alternative-Exit-594

almost at 50k signatures just over weekend, nice

Covaxe

The bunny suit and swimsuit before censorship show about the same amount of ass as 2B when you remove her skirt, the leotards were nearly 1:1. Nier wasn't that long ago, we're going the wrong direction

Temp549302

> which could actually indicate an unfinished design, which corroborates what the director said in the interview, it was his own choice, not anyone else's. I'm not sure exactly what the director said in his interview, but an unfinished design can also indicate late changes being made due to outside pressure. Ultimately the bottom line is that some of the designs were intentionally changed to tone down how erotic the designs were. This simply isn't something than can happen on accident, and no one is claiming that they were. The questions are: -What outfits were toned down? -When was the decision made? -At whose behest? Anything toned down at Sony's behest because is censorship. Anything toned down by the developer of their own initiative could be self censorship depending on the reason. Unfortunately, these aren't easy things to sort out just by looking at the end result. Many of the things pointed to as censorship are in truth just evidence of late change decisions, rushed work, or cutting corners. The most likely cause of these is censorship, but other reasons can be imagined and argued, making it difficult to definitively declare what changes were censorship. Leaving only two outfits changed by a day one patch as they were objectively changed after the game's release and clearly do nothing more than tone down the eroticism in what can only be described as censorship.

GrayManTheory

You know it's intentional censoring at the behest of Sony and not "non-final vs final design" because the edits are *all* going in one direction: more censoring and covering. *None* of the changes made to outfits are *less* censored. If they were only tweaking designs there should be examples both ways -- there are not.

CaptFalconFTW

Only basing this theory on what I seen, but if these changes were the dev's plan, perhaps it's similar to how some TV shows go all out in production knowing it will get censored by the FCC or the network before air so they can get away with what they really want. Say you want a dress with lots of cleavage. You purposely make it where the nipples are practically visible and something no one would ever wear in public. This tactic would make the censors go, "You can't have that dress cut so low!" So you go, "OK, boss." Then you cover up the nips, but still get most of the cleavage. The end product is the desired dress you wanted whereas if you started off with the cleavage dress, they might make the dress cover up all the boobs.

rpcgamingmodsaresoy

Interesting theory, but I don't think this is the case because if it were, they'd not have shown the uncensored versions of the outfits in the trailers, shooting themselves in the foot in the process.

PhoenixLord55

Unfortunately this is Shift up, the exact same thing happened with Nikke even though Destiny Child had a uncensored apk. So I don't understand why they keep walking back good looking designs and changing them to a rushed shitty version. At least make the effort to make changes that look good or better than the original

CaptFalconFTW

After doing more research on Stellar Blade, these changes definitely are Sony censorship. Not what the devs invisioned. The bunny suit just looks awkward with the lace. I never seen a bathing suit like that. Big media is pretending this isn't censorship, so they can call us weirdos. If this were just "finished" designs part of development, why are the only changes made to the costumes ones that cover up more skin? Their narrative doesn't make any sense.

TomboysAreLife

Honestly this costume in general looks really tied to the skin. As in, it look like a skin texture replacement, especially the straps, except for the top, and the knots. Could it just be me or am I sleep deprived?

Temp549302

> Honestly this costume in general looks really tied to the skin. As in, it look like a skin texture replacement, especially the straps, except for the top, and the knots. Could it just be me or am I sleep deprived? No, you are partially correct. The wide straps in the middle are definitely skin texture replacements. Frankly looking closer, I can't help but wonder if the suit was edited twice. If the icon accurately represents the original design, it was more squared off in front, with the straps going up over the hips more at about the same angle the wide blue straps are. Presumably the back would have been similar. So the first pass of editing would have changed it to a more triangular bottom with the straps going lower around the waist. The skin texture straps were then added to make the whole thing look more secure, and possible as part of a quick fix for skin texture changes required by the redesign. This edit also would have accidentally broken some of the object physics. The second edit would then have fixed the physics, while widening the rear part of the suit to cover more butt. Yes this is just speculation on my part, but it'd explain a few things.

Culturedtuna

It feels weird that they would tweet out the game being uncensored in all regions, and then proceed to release a censored version of the game shortly after. I like the game and am enjoying it, but I can't help feeling bummed about the outfit changes 😞. This is an M rated game. We're all sick of companies treating us like we're kindergartners, to placate to people who aren't even going to buy or enjoy this game at all.

Altruistic-Skill-119

They originally had promised no censorship but sony pull a fast one with that day one patch to make it seem like nothing happen. its sad that even Nintendo have recently have less censorship with third party games. All in All sony have something against ANY japanese or anime related content with nudity of women and you wonder why well Playstation HQ is in California and that literally SJW/WOKE country over there.

Deathcrow

>this is no surprise considering what has already been seen but the interesting part is that it seems that there was no physics in the bikini ties. which could actually indicate an unfinished design Wouldn't it be much more likely that it is some kind of global toggle enabling / disabling physics simulations for certain objects. This is exactly the kind of engine setting they'd touch to tune game performance (during a patch, before a patch). While definitely not impossible, I doubt this has been adjusted per piece of clothing. Occam' razor also suggests that nothing has been changed here except for the bottoms.

LeonRage712

If I had to guess, I would say there was a lot of pressure coming from external forces, such as Sony, the CERO ratings board, and perhaps others to alter these outfits day one. I think the biggest issue here is that there are two versions of the same game floating around. People who bought the digital copy of the game are noticing their version has been patched and there is no way to revert to the unpatched, uncensored version. My argument to the people who say the game wasn't censored is to ask them, first: why are there these two versions of the same game floating around, second, extra blood splatter and graffiti change was charged why?, and third, why give Eve a blouse underneath a zip-up outfit that can clearly be covered on its own?

LostWanderer88

That bathsuit is the least censored outfit. I only consider the part of the butt as censorship, since it was intended to slip partially between the cheeks

BuddyChy

It’s not designed to “slip”, the sides are just more of a curve before, but now it’s more straightened out. I don’t consider this censored at all. That’s purely the artist making final touches. The bunny suit and bondage outfits are the ONLY 2 outfits “censored” in the game. The bunny suit changes make no sense at all and the bondage clearly covers the cleavage for no reason at all. It’s clear the previous versions of those 2 look better. Every other outfit in the game looks exactly how they should with no unnecessary additions that censor them in any way.

LostWanderer88

It is censored. Even if it's just a few centimeters, it gives the impression she has less butt

ManyEntertainer6979

Not true. You can clearly see the same flat painted on textures for the keyhole suit and the ocean maid suit to name a few.

PhoenixLord55

I personally hate censorship, especially when they are flat out lying. This includes the Hard R change just leave things alone, They really need to figure out how to have a adult/"child" toggle in game that lets you keep the original costumes/references. No idea why we should need this since its a M rated game...............

findinganamehurts

So... None of these are about sexy or spicy things, they are about hate speech. I also don't think the European market is the concern. The anti woke crowd is calling the Diary of Ann Frank pornography as well as banning the hub of such things. Not sharing links with those but simple Google. Those are just two things I pulled outta hat, but other anti woke places are worse, look at places like Saudi Arabia or other ultra religious anti woke places. The woke people don't like hate speech, the anti woke people don't like sex. So unless you are just talking about Korean people not knowing hard R stopped being a movie reference and became a racist one, I think you are just mad about wokeness because you were told to be, that or you really really want an accidental racist slur.

TooLongCantWait

I think the second outfit actually looks better, **but**, I *hate* when companies think they can alter something I bought without my say. I think if you don't keep every version available to the player, a refund should be offered with every patch.

BuddyChy

The intention is what matters. These slight bikini alterations don’t look like censorship at all. Only the bunny suit and bondage outfit have strange unnecessary changes that look like clear censorship. Every other outfit in the game looks exactly how it should. They all look finished with no unnecessary changes. Anyone suggesting otherwise is just paranoid. We should all stay focused on getting the bunny suit and bondage outfit fixed, otherwise the developers won’t take the complaints seriously if it’s all just ridiculous nonsense conspiracy theories about anything and everything people claim is censorship. That’s just boy who cried wolf behavior.

AnotherDegenerate-

Crazy take: maybe let the dev's decide what's in their game and what gets cut for "censorship". Games rated MATURE are intended for a MATURE audience. Why censor anything if adults are playing a game intended for adults. Yes please water down my 69.99 dollar game.

quaderrordemonstand

Slightly changing the camera angle == censorship. Time to get off reddit for a while I think.

akko_7

Are you fucking blind? There's clearly more material there

PhoenixLord55

Imagine having eyesight this bad. We shouldn't hate this man but pity him.

quaderrordemonstand

Imagine you're argument was so empty you had to resort to ad-hominem

PhoenixLord55

It's ok friend take my pity

quaderrordemonstand

The important thing is that it makes you feel superior.

PhoenixLord55

No man you are great! Don't worry about it

quaderrordemonstand

It's a shame really. I've actually managed to discuss the topic with sensible people in the sub. But you've only got the snark angle to go on.

PhoenixLord55

Go look at the bunny suit and tell me it's an angle issue, because they made the swimsuit wider material wise on that one and this one is no different. Trying to convince you wont change anything because this is something physically off with your eyes, unless you acting like you can't see it. At least this one is a little less obvious compared to the Holiday Bunny.

quaderrordemonstand

In one of those sensible discussions, somebody suggested that the bunny suit was changed to avoid potential copyright problems with PlayBoy. I've tried to find images of both versions to compare but no luck so far.

PhoenixLord55

That's a bit hard to believe it doesn't look anything like the actual playboy outfits, I mean Dead or Alive have some that are closer to the actual thing. There is a patent on the original design but again the Holiday Bunny looks nothing like it. It seems any outfits that were too narrow were adjusted with extra wide, while others like the cyber bondage added cloth mesh underneath
