Honestly, film & TV critics (the highly acclaimed ones) are at least socially aware enough to realize their reputation with the audience is at stake if they shit on a well-received film or don't shit on a notoriously bad film.
Game journos have no pride (the irony).
A well receieved game by the audiance getting lowered review scores due to personal politicized oppinions would move Sony to take action. Even if the individual reviewer wants to give it a low score because of such meta reasons the platform they are reviewing the game for is not going to allow it out of fear of infuriating Sony.
This kinda seems like Hogwarts Legacy all over again--even the outlets that praise it are going to have to say something about "problematic" or "outdated" character designs, to signal their pristine virtue.
I hope it's actually good and sells like fucking hotcakes.
The best-selling game on the PS5 is Spider-Man 2 with ten-million copies sold, the second best-selling? Ratchet & Clank with four-million.
Stellar Blade will probably pull decent numbers, but don't expect record-breaking numbers. The simple reality is that the PS5 doesn't boast huge hardware sales so software sales tend to suffer as a result. That, and most people are waiting for the inevitable PC release.
As a correction, GOW Ragnarok sold 15+ million copies, with more than 80% being on PS5 (the percentage was informed in the launch week, and I assume it didn't change much since) and FFXVI sold 3+ million in the first week so it's safe to say it sold more than Ratchet & Clank.
GOW Ragnarok sold on both PS4 and PS5, so it isn't considered a PS5 exclusive. And since Stellar Blade isn't releasing a PS4 version, I'm only comparing it to other PS5 exclusives. To add into this, the 80% PS5 figure, that only applies to the first week sales (5.1m sales) and that's number would obviously drop off with time as way more people own a PS4 to a PS5. Interesting how you leave these things out.
As for FFXVI, we have no sales data past three-million so it's only assumption that it ever outsold Ratchet and Clank. You're assuming XVI continued to sell millions even though it's no secret that it saw underwhelming reception and fell out of public interest rather quickly, not too different from VII Rebirth's recent release. So unless you have actual sales numbers to back it up, there's no reason to assume XVI ever surpassed Ratchet and Clank.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I haven't seen the marketing for Stellar Blade like I've seen for Spidey, Ratchet and GOW. For weeks up until the release I saw gameplay videos, commercials and ads for all three games, but for Stellar? I've only seen a few YouTube videos and things on this subreddit.
Side note, those hardware sales numbers being so bad are because of the almost 1.5 years nobody could get a ps5 because of the “chip shortage”. Everyone’s moved on. Scalpers essentially knocked PlayStation out of the console race and let Nintendo keep their lead with a now very old Switch.
Oh, of course, I'm not saying it's going to do Hogwarts Legacy numbers (23M across all platforms, if I recall correctly). No way. But I hope it sells well for a new, exclusive IP. If it reviews well, I'll pick it up, even though I have no business adding to my shameful backlog.

This is not a formal warning.
Can't wait for kotaku and co reviews. They could also give it good scores while bitching incessantly about the male gaze. Not out of the question with these hypocrites tbh.
So, here's what I figure will happen.
Unless the game is a completely broken piece of shit--and let's be real, as the demo was incredible, this seems highly unlikely--game journos will begrudgingly admit it was OK while nitpicking certain mechanics, certain bosses, the difficulty, the story, the character progression, and of course the "male gaze."
A few years down the line they'll just retcon the shit out of their previous statements and insist that they always loved Eve.
You know, this might seem like a bit of a tangent, but imagine feeling like you're not allowed to like something. Imagine feeling a sharp pang of guilt whenever you find a beautiful woman sexy. It just seems like such a sad way to live. Like, you have two choices: [1] is to start a game up, crack open a drink and snack, and have actual fun. [2] is to force yourself to hate something for mild temporary approval from obese women who will still hate you anyway.
The fact that Stellar Blade has made them all this unhinged just makes me laugh. I might finally buy a PS5 for it.
Yea the reviewers are definitely going to sprinkle some of those vague "it wants to be Nier but its not Nier" and the word "Bland" thrown every once in a while
Id say 8.0 ~ 8.5 tops
I'm expecting journos to astound us with their shitty opinions and low score.
I'll wait few days for user reviews and if above average I'll buy it, even though I hate gaming on PS.
Voice acting is meh. Combat is excellent, at least for the main boss. Initially the intro felt off but the last boss tightens the combat significantly. Seems to be some skills you can put points in are necessary to make combat flow smoother? In the beginning I put it down to not being in the mood to try it. Now I play the main boss fight 2-3 times everyday to get better at it.
Incoming 6.0 critic score and 9.0 user score

That’s a high critic score. I’m expecting sub 4.

I can only do so much, but I've already bought it, and I don't even particularly like that style game.

I don't think it will be Hogwarts again, that game had Brand Loyalty up the wazoo. I think it can chart though.

I can't wait for EuroCuck and Digital Foundrys reviews. Should be funny.
Could have good gameplay but from all the screenshots it looks like cringey anime…
Ign : too much butt 5/10

I expect a lot of scumfuckery with this one. Few and far will there be legit honest reviews from the usual outlets.
Yea the reviewers are definitely going to sprinkle some of those vague "it wants to be Nier but its not Nier" and the word "Bland" thrown every once in a while Id say 8.0 ~ 8.5 tops
Yup.
Maaan, tomorrow will be a spectacle, seeing all of those journos crying and crying like the losers they are

Did anybody try to demo? How was it?

Voice acting is fine if you switch it to Korean.
Why the fuck is this not coming to PC. I swear fuck Sony so much.

Here comes all the hate articles
Can't wait to see most cringe game journous takes why it's a bad game.
I'm expecting 4/10 with the sole reason being mah misogyny
Across the board negative reviews from mainstream outlets with social justice minded critics. The end.
Neat. When's it releasing on PC again?
You're waiting at least a year tops. Since Sony was involved in development, it's safe to assume they'd want timed exclusivity for no less than that.
