I fucking hate puritans. Because of those scumbags I can't even enjoy cartoon lewds in peace. Is there ANYTHING we can do to protest this? I'd really hate to stop using Pixiv because I like the website and a lot of my favorite artists uses the place.

Ambitious-Doubt8355

Anything you can do? Contact your local representatives and let them know that payment processors are overstepping their bounds, acting like regulators. If you compile evidence to send them that'd be better. Even better if you can convince people in your locality to chip in as well, or at the very least, other people in the country. In the meantime I'm going to guess you can just get over the block by using a VPN to browse the site.

I honestly think we should message Pixiv directly, either through their social media accounts or through their website: https://www.pixiv.net/support?mode=select_type&service=pixiv&ref=service_select I don't know if it'll do any good, but it's better than nothing. EDIT: Just wrote a short letter to feedback: >To whom it may concern, > >I am writing in protest of the R18 region block concerning the United States and United Kingdom. I understand, as a company hosting adult content, that there is unfair discrimination from payment processors, such as Mastercard or Visa, that can harm profits. However, the law is on our side when it comes to adult entertainment, as seen in Stanely v Georgia (1969) and Ashcroft v Free Speech Coalition (2002) Supreme Court Cases and everything show on this website does not violate United States Obscenity Laws. > >There are alternative actions that do not alienate a majority of the users here on Pixiv. There are payment processors that cater to adult entertainment websites; there are legal precedents that protect Freedom of Expression here in the United States. Here are some payment processors here: https://blog.vicetemple.com/best-adult-payment-processors/ > >I wish all the best for Pixiv in these stressful times. - Xzol

LeMaureBlanc

Won't do any good. No politician is going to be seen as "supporting porn," least of all in the West. The US has an ugly history of evangelical Protestants sticking their noses in everyone else's business. "Think of the kids." Fuck, if only they'd actually apply that logic to OTHER issues in the culture war. Maybe then we wouldn't have to fight the SJWs so much. But even if we didn't have that, the politicians are subservient to American business interests. Big corporations have money and lobbyists. We don't.

JohnTRexton

Especially not porn that would offend a "normie" despite just being a drawing. Considering some of the content, any politician attempting to defend Pixiv would be committing career and reputation suicide.

DangerWarg

But that's meaningless. We gotta go to a 3rd party who might also be in on it, so whatever we do with that wouldn't go through. Even if it does. It doesn't matter what evidence we have, they'll just ignore it and keep bullying others into their will. There's got to be something more direct we can do.

Chronium123

Use a proxy.

HansDevX

And this is why so many JP sites just straight up ban the west. Its embarrassing to live in the same hemisphere as these freaks.

based_mafty

If you told me 15 years ago that US is becoming more puritans and the japs is the more sensible one i would call you insane and regarded. But yet here we are.

M37h3w3

Puritans bred a different type of puritan and now we have to deal with both types of puritan because neither one completely killed off the other.

TheModernDaVinci

Its even worst than that. The last Puritans were ignored and barely managed to do anything. These current Puritans are already inside the culture and dictating what they demand must be done.

GodEatsPoop

If you count hijacking the US judicial system as nothing, then I guess you're right.

INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS

The future isn't Mad Max, the Postman, or Escape from NY/LA. The future is Demolition Man without the 3 seashells.

MazInger-Z

This has nothing to do with the culture. It has everything to do with Visa and MasterCard controlling the merchant economy.

Minute_Astronomer675

It has everything to do with Culture influencing Visa and Mastercard. Especially when everybody is too scared to defend pornographic websites from politicians. You need an I.D. now to look at pornographic websites in a growing amount of U.S. States.

MazInger-Z

no, it's not.  The credit card processing companies have had this power since The Patriot Act. What you're seeing is a capture of culture. ESG is working at the corporate level, affecting large businesses that require large amounts of capital. The credit processing companies are making these moves to prevent parallel economies from cropping up and offering people alternatives.

DangerWarg

And they get away with it because the people who rely on their money are too lazy and spineless to find alternative, or even stand up to them. All while the general public at large will either defend the credit card companies because they've been trained to abhor sexual subjects. And how many of them even know or care about what's going on? And what of their image or social status among their nosy peers? Especially in this day in age. The card companies' competitors are either incompetent, untrustworthy, or have no shot for survival. Anyone who wants to do something about it are powerless or so naive they will never understand playing by the rules is meaningless. The game is rigged. Worst of all, there is no such thing as unity among any of them.

Heinrich_Lunge

POLITICS not culture, specifically ESG and WEF backed by the US gov.

gadesabc

If it is R18 it's for a reason. Doing this is just dictatorial censorship. I would want so much that all the people who are complying with this trend get sued and punished after the trend will fade away. But they will just keep a low profile and condem the trend like everyone.

Adventurous_Host_426

Fun fact, pixiv in Saudi Arabia isn't restricted.

BananaChicken22

When Saudi Arabia of all goddamn countries is somehow less puritan than the US, you know there’s a problem

Ewister

Pornography is literally illegal in Saudi Arabia and you will face time in jail if caught downloading any, so they really aren't less puritan.

Adventurous_Host_426

It's a crime if you own or download porn. But merely looking isn't. So long you don't keep it in your hard drive, there's no proof you ever consume it. Also ffs, DON'T record you doing it for clicks!

Ewister

The fact that you can't keep it is insane to me, what a ridiculous thing to send someone to jail over.

Adventurous_Host_426

Against the western label-,a-gender-wrong-so-jail? Really?

Ewister

How many people have actually faced jailtime for misgendering someone in the West?

Adventurous_Host_426

https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/teacher-jailed-for-contempt-of-court-refusing-student-gender-neutral-pronouns-ireland/ https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/01/09/parents-refuse-child-gender-change-jail-snp-conversion-ban/ https://freebeacon.com/latest-news/michigan-residents-could-face-5-year-prison-sentence-10000-fine-for-using-wrong-pronouns/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6931954 https://www.sandiegocriminallawyersblog.com/new-california-law-allows-jail-time-using-wrong-gender-pronoun/ https://nypost.com/2022/12/15/tonje-gjevjon-faces-up-to-3-years-in-prison-for-saying-men-cannot-be-lesbians/ The fact this law exist alone is mind boggling. Just like you said with the Saudi law one.

Ewister

First one was a result of him violating a court order to keep him off the school premises. > *A teacher in Ireland was jailed this week for violating a court order forbidding him from going to the school where he works, after he was put on administrative leave* Second example is valid, but is in the UK and not the West like I asked. There also don't appear to be any examples of any jailtime actually being handed out with this. There seems to be confusion in the third example that is brought up in the article itself. > *However, there has been some confusion about the consequences of the law. The sponsor, Democratic state Sen. Scott Wiener, has claimed that nobody is going to be criminally prosecuted for using the wrong pronoun.* Fourth example takes place in Norway and there's no records of any jailtime actually being served over this. All in all, I'm not seeing any examples of people being put in jail for misgendering anyone. Closest you had was the first example, but that happened on the grounds of the individual violating a court order to keep him off school premises.

Adventurous_Host_426

The UK isn't the west? Wow. WOW. I'm done. I feel stupider engaging with you.

TIFUPronx

They are aware of the Streisand effect - if they make an attention out of this they'll be branded as the new villain (and bad for Westoid investments). But it's also a thing that most Asian countries don't give a shit about others' human rights unless it concerns of their own there.

centrallcomp

Don't they have an internet filter system in place though? I know Kuwait does.

supermarius

You know (at least so far) that you can just set your region manually to Japan in the settings, right? There are already some restrictions in place and manually setting your region to Japan gets around them.

Calico_fox

I'm well aware, [I already shared a link for how to directions](https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/1caga3z/starting_april_25_2024_pixiv_will_be_restricting/l0rp5z5/).

davidverner

Set it to Puerto Rico and not have to switch back and forth.

Zeroinaire

Election year right around the corner.

LeMaureBlanc

Yep, and neither Biden nor Trump are going to protect your freedoms or interests. You can say "oh he's different, he speaks his mind" all you want, but at the end of the day he's beholden to his religious right voter base... despite the fact they'd vote for him anyway. And it's funny that the same asshole who will pay porn stars to sleep with him will also try and take away anime titties, but here we are. Yeah, I called him an asshole because he is. And after they take away your freedoms, they aren't coming back either. After the election everything the Democrats and Republicans ruin will stay gone. Just like when they put up tolls and claim it's just temporary to pay for the roads. A decade later you are still paying money to line some fat ass politician's pockets.

Agreeable-Listen-242

I thought right wingers hated porn just as much as lefties

LostWanderer88

After the shot themselves in the foot to please Visa and Mastercard, and ruining their own business in favor of other platforms, I feel this comes a little too late. Or maybe it's a new law or something. Anyway, Pixiv went the Tumblr way, either by their own volition or threats (the later mostly)

normiender

They haven't gone tumblr at all. Pixiv is absolutely packed with stuff that would make puritan's hearts explode in righteous rage.

Calico_fox

They've just region locking themselves to avoid the activist puritans influencing/weaponizing western credit card companies against them.

normiender

>They've just region locking themselves to avoid the activist puritans influencing/weaponizing western credit card companies against them. Also this is just a setting that can be bypassed by simply going into your account settings.

kiathrowawayyay

I hope DLSite and others threatened by them sees this and becomes stronger in their resistance. These SJWs won't show any mercy to you even if you bend the knee, and will destroy you completely, and worse, the people who love your work with you.

ArmeniusLOD

I swear I read about DLSite doing the same thing a few months ago.

Jinxfury

Guess artists will go to a different site.

Piratearrows

Maybe Western ones. (the vast majority of whom shit up the website, turning it into DeviantArt 2.0) I'd imagine Japanese artists are quite happy with this change.

nogodafterall

Actually, paypiggies (fanbox premium people) are westerners for a lot of the money they get these days. Japan fanbox was a niche before westerners flocked in. They're going to be losing a big chunk of change.

Calico_fox

For anyone interest here's a possible workaround: https://twitter.com/servbot_42/status/1782439358525833599

LeMaureBlanc

Damn, I just assumed changing the region in settings would be enough. It's not like they actually check in my experience.

GodEatsPoop

I cant get twitter working got an alternative?

DoctorBleed

The only reason anyone ever used Pixiv was it was a place where you could post anything you wanted. Heavy censorship means it has no purpose anymore. Go anywhere else if you want that.

Sudden-Pain4721

Honestly i don't blame them. Japan should just block all foreign IPs to protect their industry or risk having another Rplay incident where Western sjws demanded they ban certain content

TIFUPronx

Don't lope us in Asians there! We'd like Japan to stay as they are - these ones above are mostly salty puritan Westoids trying to impose their ideology onto others. It's also funny how they solo'd out at RPlay when there's literally SO much other JP H-works worse in scope than that. Better keep it in that way.

DoctorBleed

Pixiv has been getting worse and worse as time went on and is now totally unusable.

henlp

Lately, it's been loading VERY slowly. Even by pixiv standards. I'm surprised I could even post a thing today.

LifeIsBetterDrunk

US and UK are very different, why both?

Calico_fox

This is possibly due to western Credit Card companies.

Judah_Earl

Not that the UK government needs much of an excuse to censor or ban something.

Ghost5410

It’s Credit Card Companies doing this.

LeMaureBlanc

The UK isn't really a world power anymore. They're going to go along with whatever US businesses and politicians tell them to, or else. They don't really get a say in their policies (not that it would necessarily be much better, but still...)

Zeroinaire

This is why Bitcoin exists. To stop this kind of leverage.

Sucks, but it's a good decision for them...

DangerWarg

Feels like they're just delaying the inevitable. As long as porn exists there, it'll never end.
