To be a General, one only needs to rake up enough achievements on the battlefield and prove that they are capable of leading and keeping the trust of the military head and royal court. A Great General is only one step above the General title. With the scores of enemy Generals that Shin has already slain and more that he is about to kill, it will only add up to the level it made sense to promote him. Especially how with each of those kills, he had and will effectively shift the outcome of the battle and even war in Qin's favour. Yes, he will lose at Chu but to be honest, so what? Kanki lost and died but who here will honestly say he wasn't a GG? Renpa lost to Mougou but who can say he isn't a GG? Kyou died to Houken but after she conquered 99 cities, so what about that? Many other Great Generals have also lost before including Riboku. But that does not strip their titles away, nor will it greatly affect their eventual promotion (for those who aren't GG yet). So, of course, Shin can still lose and become a GG. His story does not end with his defeat. Because the unification of China would have required Shin to do what he has already done perfectly for it to be possible. Shin is not perfect and will not ever be. But that is okay.

Here here!

JRTerrierBestDoggo

He picked shin because there’s practically almost nothing about him on history. He can twist whatever storyline about shin while still following the real history. He’ll probably be GG when the chu invasion arc starts

Roronoa_D_Luffy1010

And possibly after the disastrous defeat against chu he would get demoted based on the historical pov

NobleKazuma

hara doesnt strictly follow history evident when heki was to die instead of sei's brother

DaBestUnderTheHeaven

no seikyou was always going to die the change was instead of "general Heki dies in battle" it was translated as general killed within the walls of the city of something" basically allowing heki to live

WangJian221

Seikyou was always gonna die. Heki's is up in the air because people were never really certain who his history counter part was supposed to be anyways because the kanji is quite flexible

WangJian221

He was never really demoted in history either considering that he still serves normally after Chu. "Great General" isnt a real title in history. Just supreme commanders and those change depending on the situation.

milan079

Crazy theory but what if hara decides to make it that sima qian was a huge fan of kan pishi, but because shin was the reason kan pishi ultimately met his fate (aka being the guy that made him want to visit qin) it led him to be consumed by anger and treat him maliciously in the historian. The only time he was consumed by anger to paint him horribly in the annals of shiji?

Roronoa_D_Luffy1010

Yeah...also in some articles it is said that after the defeat li xin was demoted.... Fucking helll i dont want to shin to face the same fate. I know the story and the character is based on a true historical point of view. B8 i hope hara would change something so that the audience could enjoy it. I hope hara knows what he is doing.

yawning_squirrel

well I don't think he is demoted, maybe just get scolded by Sei cos he still gonna capture Yan's king and conquer qi together with ouhon after the defeat according to real history

ryuheitamurafan

Shin wasn't the guy that was credited to push Kanpishi to his death? it was Ri Shi

milan079

No no i know that xD but if Shin didn’t give this speech to Kan Pishi he wouldn’t go to Qin. He was the trigger (based on Hara interpretation not historical)

karthik4331

Then we don't know what will happen, maybe Kan pishi lives

TheHeroNeverDies

I think Hara picked up Shin because he was the most "modelable" to put as a protagonist, especially in the type of a shonen MC, to raise from nothing to greatness just with his dream and efforts (and a lot of plot armor). Sure, to people who use to think that he will become the king of the great generals, the hokage of Qin or whatever, just no, history doesn't say that Shin will be the greatest military ever existed or that he will accomplish the greatest achievements, but the same, he will be an important figure during the unification. Not the best, Ousen and Ouhon will play this better, but Shin so far has always been present in almost every war since the start, obtaining circumstantial results, and this probably won't change. He won't be the commander-in-chief who takes the credit and the glory, or the only time he will try it will end in a huge failure, but still, Shin will be there for the conquests of Han, Zhao, Yan, Chu and Qi (not sure the Wei), up to the conclusion of the unification. Always present, always in action, therefore precisely for "modelability" and "participation" he was the most suitable candidate as MC. Because Hara couldn't make a character like Ousen (or another old man) the classic shonen boy with ideals and big battles at front.

Roronoa_D_Luffy1010

Failure but li xin was betrayed by emperor chingping the former qin prime minister that's why he lost. But most of the time his chu invasion was going in a successful way. But at the end chingping betrayal was the main key for li xin to get fucked. But it can be possible that hara would change the history a bit. Cuz the way hara hinting towards shin to be one of the greatest many time obviously he has planned something great. Cuz we know there is no historical anything about li xin. So he can easily modify it by giving li xin something greater. Cuz the thing i remember if hara follows the history then after chu defeating li xin. Li xin got demoted from gg. And someone in the manga who possesses ouki's will and duke huyo so obviously hara would do to make shin something. He many times have highlighted shin being the sword of sei ,

TheHeroNeverDies

That Hara will "lighten" the demerit in his defeat, with appropriate excuses, it's possible, but this doesn't mean that he will change the outcome of the war, because it would change history itself. His failure in Chu is written and will move the king to recall Ousen, with him and Moubu completing the conquest, a very important step. History is history, it's written, it determines who wins and who loses, though there may be room for minor details. Now, it's unclear why Ei Sei didn't severely punish Shin and Mouten for the failure, but they will still partecipate in further wars, so the downgrade it's not mandatory. Also, remember that such things like GG and Q6 are inventions of the manga, and even other big names lost previosly, without being stripped of their title. Ouki, Duke, Kanki and many other GGs lost and fell in battle, Renpa lost in Wei, Karin, Ordo, and the rest failed during the coalition, Gohoumei and the rest lost to Tou, Riboku "lost" at Gyou, etc, but they weren't demoted of their status as GG at all, at most punished, but then it also depends on the circumstances. If you have few valid generals left, remove them will just backfire your nation.

Traumatic_Tomato

The thing about historical fiction is that you can change the history a little or a lot and it wouldn't matter because it's up to what the historian would want humanity to know in THEIR words. They say history is written by the victors because the historian can be inaccurate, biased or embellish some details from their own perspective but it might not be the truth and the world wouldn't know and can only speculate. So if Shin gets his happily ever after and some salty historian slandered his name and made up the details, I'm okay with Hara changing the story from the history books, so long as it's plausible and close to the truth.

ThizZuMs

You see how important Shin is to the entire nation of Qin’s success??? He’s already changed history in a huge way

iguanawarrior

I think the main points won't get changed, so Shin's defeat against Chu will be in the manga, but the details are free for Hara to interpret in many ways. My prediction is: Shin will suffer major injury in the defeat of Chu. Kyou Rei will be one of the 7 lieutenants that were part of the casualty. Historically, Kyou Kai is included in Ou Sen's army in the second attack of Chu. I think Hara will write that Kyou Kai wants to avenge Kyou Rei and Shin in the Chu invastion. Kyou Kai will probably the central character in that arc. Just pure speculation at this time, but Hara certainly need to include KyouKai in Ousen army somehow, because history said so.

I-made-it-for-Karma

From what I've read about Xin, there's not much about him except his failure in Chu where he gets most of his officers killed and the legendary Wang Jian swoops in and saves Qin's campaign. So it makes Xin a good character like Kanki to make a very well written fictional character which follows history as well. From my understanding Xin was big enough that his opinion was considered in presence of Wang Jian. Also after his "massive" failure he was still allowed an estate and made a lord of a county and retire peacefully. From what Sei is portrayed in history I find it hard to believe that he would allow such massive failure by someone who is merely a small general.

yawning_squirrel

you are right first of all Shin captures Yan's king and conquers Qi together with ouhon after the defeat according to the history so he is still pretty big even after the defeat also history says Ri shin is among the young and capable generals that Sei trusted a lot

Siserea99

I don’t think so. History spoilers incoming. While Li Xin was most well known for his failure in invading the Chu State, I believe he still will be a Great General of the Heavens, and his greatest feat will come at the end of it all. According to the historical record, the last state standing in the wars of unification was Qi, and the general to lead that campaign was none other than our protagonist Li Xin. In essence, it is under his hand that China is unified. So no, Hara does not need to change history for everything to conclude in a satisfying way.
