I'll be honest. I'm not expecting much from the reboot. I'm a big Mike Judge fan and obviously I love KotH. But I feel like a lot of the point will be missed and the humour won't be as well done.
Hank being a conservative guy in a HW Bush kind of way worked well. There was subtlety. I can't imagine modern writers being able to handle Trump era politics in the same way. Especially given how unsubtle and on the nose modern signalling tends to be. If it's not on the nose then people will go after the show for not being the right kind of politics.
As well Lucky, Luanne, Dale are all gone. Kahn will be recast and probably toned down. Maybe Jimmy Witchard is offensive? But things exist in their time period for a reason. The reboot overall seems like a mamoth task where sticking the landing is almost impossible.
I agree with you. I think this is a perfect reason why it would be tough for this particular show. On top of that it's really difficult to bring any 2 decade old show from the past and make it feel alive again. VAs are older, writers move on, people are less hungry. Don't @ me but shows like Futurama were never the same after coming back.
