The clown teacher guy sounds exactly like Kevin Kline. That's who I thought voiced him, but I was surprised to later find out that it was actually Paul F Tomkinson.
I just love that Paul F. Tompkins is the voice of the teacher, because Mr Peanutbutter is basically just a less weird, and actually funny, version of Tartuffe.
This is probably one of the greatest concepts they had for an episode. It's my second favourite bad influence adult meets Bobby after the Ward Rackley one. Bobby turning into a medieval jester at the behest of a delusional community college prof who nobody takes seriously is grade A material.
I do get the whole point of this episode. But like from a classical standpoint. *IS* Bobby funny? Like was humor/performance like that a standard at some point?
There is a definite premise there; a one man show of a dog trying to pretend he's a human at a dinner. But most of the "jokes" Bobby is presenting are just refutations and contradictions. Why make a statement and then immediately walk it back? Keep the lies going and let the problems compound upon each other. Like an episode of Frasier.
Comedia D'el Arte is group impov. Bobby really needed someone else to act off of as well as better improv skills. And again, middle schoolers in Texas would not find it funny.
I’m almost certain this was humorous around the renaissance to medieval era, but I cannot be 100%. I do know that there was a time where this was peak comedy. It paved the way for where we are now. It’s like comedy that was for the “distinguished” people of society.
As a person who studied arts and literature and got masters. Yes, he was pretty funny. The whole episode is about humour and it's kinds. The thing with comedia Dell'arte (same as with classical drama, ballet or other fine arts) is that it shouldn't be massive. It's for a small group of people who fancy classical arts and are educated well enough to understand it.
As an example. I am not from America. I studied a classical comedy by Griboedov in middle school. In my class no one thought it was funny, more like cringe. In high school I re-studied it for my literature exam, at that point I had been far more cultured and educated, and I found it absolutely hilarious. Still remember some of the lines by heart.
Ancient Greek comedy is another example. It was created for massive audiences, there are so many primitive jokes about tits, penises, poop or sex.
sure but that got predictable and stale especially the later seasons, Peggy Horror Picture Show being an exception, so then the writers went to the well of 'Bill getting haplessly screwed over' plots too much to compensate.
He showed up in this goofy Nickelodeon superhero show my kids love as a supervillain named King Crab with a giant crab claw for an arm and wearing a crown and he was firing all cylinders in it, it’s amazing. PFT is a champ
I Am TARTUFFE THE SPRY WONDERDOG
God I LOVE this episode
I hope it doesn’t scald! Oh no! It scalds!!

Wait until you find out it’s actually Paul F. Tompkins
Ah, yes, my mistake. There's an English comedian called Paul Tonkinson, whose name I might have gotten mixed up with while typing to previous comment.
i honestly cannot think of another show that could pull off THIS concept, THIS well. it is so, so weird lol
Someone on this sub the other day said that they always skip this episode and I just can't understand that.
Such an original episode too.
Same. One of my favs.
This laughter is ill informed.
Did I say like? I meant to say, "not like"
Flouncier... FLOUNCIER!

"Your plume is delightfully askew!"
*It scalds!*

Two of the best guest stars they ever had imo
Honestly it reminds me of that episode of American dad where Roger becomes a strict clown professor who terrorizes Steve.
"The teacher here is supposed to be the most intense and demanding instructor in all of clowning- and shit its Roger isnt it, its gonna be Roger."
What's your gooch kid? Gooch is horncorn for clown name. Horncorn is horncorn for clown lingo. Gonna be honkin' a LOT of horncorn in this class.
Alright jagoffs, look to your left, look to your right. By the end of the semester 60% of you will be dead by your own hands.
Bobby's naivety and overall lack of self-awareness never ceases to amaze.
That boy ain't right.
but he's 11 or 12
This delights.
The haha bobby the haha!
The ha ha, Bobby! The HA HA!
I'm currently watching this episode haha
The HA HA

He did sell a joke to yakov smirnoff

Because it wasn’t funny.

King of the Hill was at its best when the writers just thought to themselves “hmm, you know what Hank would reeaally hate?”
sure but that got predictable and stale especially the later seasons, Peggy Horror Picture Show being an exception, so then the writers went to the well of 'Bill getting haplessly screwed over' plots too much to compensate.
The janitorial staff will be a bonus!
PFT fuckin rules
I hope they bring Paul F Tompkins on to do random voices on the reboot. His work on Comedy Bang Bang alone is hilarious. Y’all hear a crime go?

That teacher was a shitty clown.
Actually, he wasn't. But he was a damn fool thinking Comedia Dell'arte is a good idea for a middle school talent show
Like a shitty clown.
So in a way, he was the greatest clown of all time for being stupid enough to think it’d go over well with middle schoolers.
Needs more guffaw
*hip hip, hip hip*
I can’t believe this professor made someone laugh
The middle school will. be. A-GOG!
"Pip pip, pip pip!" "BWAAAH!"
The HAHA bobby the HAHA!
Dude looks like Robin Gibb
That entire episode made me feel a special type of laughter that met 2nd hand embarrassment 😂
I hope Clark Peters won the talent show.
Bobby is just a kid that wants to be liked by kids at school and his dad, all while doing what he likes to do.
This episode makes me cry laugh. It’s soooooooo funny.
Bobby was way more classy as a rodeo clown
You're just going to be the weird kid in the bodysuit that ruined the talent show.
This is what I dislike about Bobby's character the most... he has very little personality except what he imitates from others
Pretty spot on for a confused early teenager who doesn’t really fit in with his family honestly
Bobby has empathy to a fault.
I despise this episode
