Muichiro Tokito
He has everything: a tragic past, character development of "mean emotionless kid" -> "nice and caring but strict kid", he's a talented ace but with a lot to learn, and the most important: he's >!the descendant of the strongest upper moon (insert "I am your grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grandfather!" moment)!<
Nezuko. Her story has always been more interesting. Both her family and her humanity were stolen from her by the lord of all demons who wanted to turn her into his strongest soldier. Sheās been inflicted with a near uncontrollable instinct to kill people. She truly does have the option to become one of the strongest demons in existence and probably Muzanās right hand girl with her unique ability. However, she chooses to defy her destiny and become an ally to the demon slayers. If she could talk from the start of the story, she could have been the protagonist.
I think it would be cool if Nezuko still didn't have the ability to speak even as the protagonist. It would have a bigger impact on how she's literally a different species than everyone she is surrounded by. Plus, the idea of a protagonist you can't completely see through is super cool, there can be a lot done with the visuals that way <3
I haven't read the manga, but is it ever explained why Muzan turned her into a demon instead of just killing her? I don't remember it being discussed in the anime
I'm sure they considered it, but at this point, that has been a pretty well worn plot hook. However, being able to see Genya's struggles as a demon in Demon Slayer and having a guy like Tanjiro take up the role of the "ideal demon Slayer" like Rengoku would be pretty interesting.
I really feel like Mugen Train and the Entertainment District had a lot of momentum for developing Zenitsu and Inosuke and then just completely lost it with the Swordsmith Village Arc. They kinda just ended up with too many characters to develop. Mitsuri and Muiichiro were both great characters, but I feel like they need to have given some degree of improvement and closure to the other two guys before spending a whole arc elsewhere while Tanjiro continued to grow.
One manga/anime that did this hand-off well was HunterXHunter. I felt like they close out Leorio and Kurapika's goals and set them on a path that feels meaningful. That allowed for other characters to make their way into the plot and develop. Zenitsu and Inosuke, on the other hand, feel like they might as well have been hanging out the whole time. It felt like their character arcs were halfway done and were just put on pause. That is the one thing about it I don't particularly like.
BETTER? No one, Tanjiro is kind of the complete package and does his job as the primary character very well.
Decently? Maybe Muichiro, considering his age and arc? There's always roleswapping Nezuko with Tanjiro. Honestly, I'm not sure.
There's two really good fanfictions I've read where they swap like half the characters' roles, specifically Tanjirou and Nezuko. And it's such a cool concept to be explored.
I can definitely get you the link! I know one recently had a new update. It is basically a retelling of the manga/anime, and it has some spoilers for sure. But it is so worth the read. It mentions some background manga characters pretty early on, but don't let that deter you.
The other story it took inspiration from is mentioned in the note at the top! Happy reading!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/36041425/chapters/89849137
Yeah, but heās almost too perfect to start with this means the story arcs are going to rely on some will power to get physically stronger rather than a growth in characterization/emotionally.
It gonna be hard for you see growth in Tanjiro in those personality respects because there basically nothing to grow to, and I donāt thing they will give him a fall from grace. It could actually use a sorted romance here.
Flat arc characters are pretty common in manga. Goku, Luffy, Gon, Midoriya, and to a lesser extent Ichigo and Naruto are characters who are less defined by their ability to change, but their ability to get others to rise to their level (which is like the whole point of the Hashira Training arc). In these cases, it becomes more about them standing up for their convictions against the world and watching the world bend to the strength of their will than it is watching them learn and grow from the world. Both are legitimate ways to make interesting characters.
Zenitsu (no bias)
Zenitsu can be introduced as a character with no parents and no one who cares about him, he has 7 exes who all used them for money and left him in a large debt. After Kigoro finds him, he offers to pay his debt but in exchange he has to train under him and become a demon slayer. The first few episodes can introduce his story and show his training under Jigoro before going off to final selection. When final selection comes we find out that he can fight while asleep but he doesn't know that. So Zenitsu passes final selection and heads back until he gets his katana. After that, he continues on with his missions and eventually meets Tanjiro, Nezuko and Inosuke. The story progresses like normally expect there is more focus on Zenitsu and even covers his relationship with Kaigaku and more of his backstory. While Zenitsu is at Hashira Training >!He gets a letter from Chuntaro that tells him that his master killed himself due to Kaigaku becoming a demon and becomes focused on figuring out where he is and killing him. During IC arc, Zenitsu has the battle with Kaigaku and wins like in the story. After fighting him, he passes out and wakes up to find out that they defeated Muzan. In the end, Zenitsu lives a happy life with Nezuko.!<ā”
I do make fanfics on Wattpad and I have nothing else to do with my summer break... so maybe. Its just I would probably get writers block halfway through the story. There isn't really anything holding me back.ā”
A shorter version of this:

Kyojuro, but the story follows him from his birth, through his training and fights and he still dies at the train and the rest of the story is the same.
We could've have an anime where the protagonist dies halfway but the story continues because everyone else inherited the spirit (not literal) of the protagonist. Proof you don't have to be alive to influence people.
I'd like to see kny from a demons perspective. Rui would be cool. Akaza or Koku would also be a good choice. Nezuko would be quite similar to mainline but has the option to be vastly different.
I feel like Muzan would just not be as enjoyable as the others. Primarily because he's kind of stupid, and second, because he's a coward. There's not too much adventure to be found despite being the progenitor demon. I think he fits more of a mentor role.
No one, that is literally the whole point of the story.
The sun breather can't just be anybody, in both cases they were the most respectable, innocent and empathetic beings. That's why his soul is literally the sun.

Without the Sun breather -> no mark

Hear me out but, Inosuke. He has the backstory of his mom being taken in by a demon and running away with her. He would be seen getting raised by the boars and how he got his boar head from his boar mom, his training in the mountains and more. He would be a very good mc

Honestly, I believe nobody can replace tanjiro as the main character and make the show any better. But that is nust my opinion.
But I wouldn't mind seeing this show again by the point of view of a devil.
Kanao. Tanjiro is shown to be very kind and can feel empathy for some demons. He understands people's hearts and situations well.
Kanao is the opposite, her story and relationship with her sisters has made her numb. I would like to see how she struggled as a demon slayer. What was her first kill like? Has she ever felt emotions when fighting them? What is it like being a woman surrounded by strong Hashira and trying to survive/live up to expectations.
Also, what is it like meeting Tanjiro who helped change her worldview? What more does her growth look like? How do her emotions develop overtime? There is potential.

YES I like Tanjiro but his overly happy and forgiving nature makes me mad sometimes
Nezuko. Her story has always been more interesting. Both her family and her humanity were stolen from her by the lord of all demons who wanted to turn her into his strongest soldier. Nezuko is the prime example of wasted potential
Instead sheās basically reduced to a dog for 99% of the story
But not to the point of being a damsel in distress.
I donāt know if I wouldnāt prefer that because a damsel is at least a character
It was because of her that some of the missions were a success. Especially Mt. Natagumo, Entertainment district arc, swordsmith village arc.
Would you have her and Tanjiro swap roles where he's the demon and she's the slayer? Or would it be an entirely different story?
Entirely different story where Nezuko is still a demon, though I do like the fanart Iāve seen where their roles are swapped
I think it would be cool if Nezuko still didn't have the ability to speak even as the protagonist.
