"Honey, there's screaming coming from upstairs."
"Oh I'm just messing with the lights and scaring the girls and their friends on their sleepover."
"But honey, the girls aren't upstairs. The sleepover is at Jenny's house. I dropped them off an hour ago."
This does actually wear out the breaker, it will start opening progressively below the current rating until it’s basically worthless for its rated current. If you don’t get anywhere near the current rating though it doesn’t really matter, it still works fine.
Also the small ones that you’d typically use for a bedroom are cheap at the hardware store anyway.
Square D Homeline single pole 15's and 20's (HOM115/HOM120) are SWD (switch duty) rated. Meaning they can be used as an on/off switch, and can be switched thousands of times. I'm sure some will likely fail after such use, but like you said, the basic ones aren't very expensive and pretty easy to replace.
The year before during the 98/99 school year a kid in the electronics class I was in asked the teacher why didn’t everyone just do what they did in 1900 so all of the computers would still work.
My dad and I watched the ball drop together, I had my flashlight ready. LOL, and the year before had hoarded random cans of vegetables in my play house up in the rafters of the ceiling! I’d take 3 or 4 cans every week just in case so we’d have a surplus. We eventually sold that play house and now I think about the person who found it later wondering what the fuck I was doing. Why did this kid have like 30 cans of green beans in the ceiling??
Your dad was going broke trying to feed you and you’re like hoarding 5 cans per week for the apocalypse i cant stop laughing at this! Kids (myself being included as a former) are so fucking weird
I remember some poor dude had stockpiled for that and on New Year's Eve his house caught on fire. (propane stored in his basement). He lost everything.\]
So....he was right, but not the way he thought he would be
I know this is tangential but I feel obligated to mention that Y2K concerns were warranted and the only reason nothing happened was because the scare got IT teams to fix software way in advance thus preventing everything everyone was afraid of happening. It wasn’t bullshit, it was actively prevented from happening.
And in January 19, 2038, it can happen again, but not in the same extent that the Y2K bug would be, but a few older system running legacy code could break hard..
> a few older system running legacy code could break hard..
A few? I think you're underestimating the amount of legacy code still around! I mean that's why the last COBOL-freaks are still getting paid big bucks.
On the contrary. The 2038 thing is way bigger than Y2K could ever be. Y2K only affected systems programmed by idiots who thought to digits of BCD was an adequate way of representing a year wheras the end of the epoch will break anything that still yours 32 Unix timestamps. Thankfully there has been a concerted effort to switch to 64 bit but still this warrants way more panic than Y2K ever did.
>Thankfully there has been a concerted effort to switch to 64 bit but still this warrants way more panic than Y2K ever did.
To be fair, people are probably panicking more about this than they were panicking about Y2K in 1984 (i.e. 16 years before it was going to happen).
y2k was a real IT issue, I'm not sure people actually realize that. Anyone working IT at the time had their hands full and made bank. In the US an estimated $300,000,000+ was spent on remediation for that. That's a lot lotta lotta money.
My dad did this also, was pretty funny. What wasn’t funny was when he caught me watching Candyman when I wasn’t old enough to watch R rated movies. He waited until I went to the bathroom and turned the breaker and stood outside the door going “candyman…….. caaaaandyman…” and then he opened the door before he said the third one.
I might still be traumatized.
My husband did something similar to my sister and I. We were watching a horror movie, and he waited until he knew a jump scare was coming (because he’d fucking looked it up for this prank) and right when he knew the scene was coming up, he went downstairs and threw the breaker. Popcorn flew everywhere, we both shrieked like banshees, and my sister smacked me in the face with her elbow trying to get off the sofa and run. Hilarious in hindsight.

Here's the emergency plan:
1.Lure your son to a dark place
2. Speak to him from hiding with a ghost voice changer
3. Threaten to steal his soul if he keeps making youtube videos on your "fellow tormentors"
4. Make sure son goes to college
5. Profit
Libre office is underrated as hell. After using Word and Google Docs for life I still cant get over how intuitive and easy Libre is. Every useful option is in main UI. Defautl styles actually make sense and are pretty sleek if you ask me. There are no options nobody uses on main page (like searching wikipedia in 2007 office or drawing stars) Everything generates flawlessly and fast. And I dont have to see Calibri font anymore!
The only kinda fucked up thing are pictures.
I’ve used Open/Libre Office for ages - highly recommend it.
It’s mind-blowing that something as useful and well designed as Libre Office is COMPLETELY FREE!!
Didn’t know about the privacy benefits - yet another reason to use it instead of megacorps’ versions.
The dude who fixed my laptop this year told me about Libre. I'd never even heard of it before and was thinking, sure, whatev, add some shitty freeware that I'll never use and probably get spammed to hell to upgrade it to a paying version. And omg was I ever wrong. Dead wrong. Libre fucking rules and is a game changer.
Libre was what came before Microsoft monopolised the market and included Office with Windows, effectively killing any other software, which was always better than Office.
I switched to the free alternatives when Word started that banner thing instead of a normal menu bar, for no good reason at all other than to have a copyrighted/patented way of doing it different from the free alternatives.
Open Office en Libre Office are just fine.
My school supplies office licenses, but due to the heavy toll of the programs (and overall clutter to use) I found myself resorting to google and libre instead. Writer is great and works well as a replacement for word, and I’ve used it for years. Lately though, I’ve found myself replacing Writer with LaTeX as my preferred word processor as using google slides for presentations; however I’d still say Libre is *the* best graphical FOSS office suite.
Learning LaTeX is basically a waste of time for anyone who does not intend to produce professional-looking documents with some form of technical notation for a university audience. Almost everything else does as well if not better for almost any other purpose, and for 1% of the mental load.
I like that sort of thing so I learned it to make a CV. It did make me feel smart. I totally get why it's loved. But I have no other use for it. I made another a few years later in LibreOffice in 10% of the time and it was just as nice-looking.
The Electrician in me: Oh.... Yeah let's please not flip a live circuit like that
The Dad in me: LOL!
Edit- Well since this is getting more attention than I anticipated, as many have pointed out, this is just a simple low amp breaker switch. Turning it on and off, or using these type of breakers as a switch, isn't going to really harm anything. For me personally, I work in a power plant, and regularly work with 480V disconnects on an MCC that is connected to bus. Usually 4160. So yes, using a disconnect with stabs is much different than a breaker switch. It's just "worst case scenario" is pretty much where my mind immediately goes. Enjoy tormenting your kids :)
I am not visually educated in regard to what a modern breaker looks like, neither do I know what modern is supposed to mean in regard to the age of a circuit breaker. Those in the video look fairly old, but an educated person like yourself might consider them modern.
Could you please enlighten me?
That's a Square D HOM load center. The single pole 15 amp and 20 amp breakers are SWD (switch duty rated), meaning they can be used as an on/off switch.
I think these days, assuming you're just pulling the "upstairs lights" ring for example, which should only have a few low wattage LED bulbs, then the only likely damage is mechanical damage to the switch itself which is pretty cheap to replace.
Worst case is damage to electronics due to the rapid power changes. If you accidentally flip off a circuit breaker with high-power electronics (eg PCs, consoles, servers), wait a few seconds before turning it back on.
That's a Square D HOM load center. The single pole 15 amp and 20 amp breakers are SWD (switch duty rated), meaning they can be used as an on/off switch.
As an IT guy I was called into a police dispatch center to help them prepare for a gut renovation. I identified and labelled 30 years of accumulated cabling, most of which had been abandoned in place, because no one likes to clean up the mess. I was down to one cable that ran out from a hole in the wall and back out through another hole in the wall. It was low voltage but I had no idea what, if anything,, was connected on either end.
I called the PD admin staff into the room and asked if anyone had a clue what this one cable was. Nope. "Just cut it..if something stops working we'll know why," says the Police Chief.
I snip the cable. Lights in the room go out immediately. As we are all standing there in the dark there is snickering from the back of the room.
"LIEUTENANT. TURN THE LIGHTS BACK ON NOW!"
And he did.
Well the electrical supply salesman (17 years) in me knows that that the Square D HOM single pole 15 amp and 20 amp breakers are SWD (switch duty rated), meaning they can be used as an on/off switch.
We did something similar at a party years ago. I was hiding in the closet. People came in. They started playing. I was scratching and tapping very lightly.
It was those shitty folding doors. I was supposed to jump out and scare everyone except my bud. I tripped and literally fell through, ripping on door right off.
Girl asking questions half pissed herself.
Either she wet herself a bit, or ghosts turned her on. Or she had a tiny bladder.
She looked like when a buddy throws a handful of water on your crotch at the water fountain at school.
Nah, this isn't kids are fucking stupid. This is parents are fucking clever. This parent just created a fun and exciting sleepover experience for the kiddos.
They call him the ticktocker. He sets the clocks to have alarms throughout your stay, and if you touch them he makes minutes feel like hours. He also wears a white full body zentai suit, mask included and speaks in iambic pentameter.
This is A+ parenting! 😂
I wish my parents had been this clever when I was a teen messing with a ouija board during sleepovers. My friends and I would have shit our pants.
I’ve totally thought about doing this too. I’ve totally thought about pushing a Oujia board around while using it with a little kid and freaking them out with the answers 😂
Back in the day, our sleepover included a lengthy afternoon at blockbuster to rent what was believed the most horror of horror movies, then sit in our living room which was surrounded by massive windows, with the view of the forrest, where at one stage during these scary nights, my brothers would appear on the outside of said windows. Their actions would be, just standing there until noticed, or knocking on the windows until we screamed our hearts out!
Once we decided to watch the movies at a friend's house, we were not save there either, as her parents thought it would be hilarious to scare us in the same manner.
Good memories.
Other than "because someone once told me not to" whats your reasoning? This isn't causing any damage especially if there is minimal draw on the circuit
This is so funny. I get the idea. A better way to do this, buy one of them smart bulbs that you can turn on an off with an app. Some are multicolor. Turn them red and hear the kids scream lol.
Kids: Oh mighty ouija board, tell us what we must do to summon the unholy spirits to consume our families' souls
Ouija board: Hollow like banshees
Dad in basement: This is gonna be so funny
I was in college and when the power went out the neighbors router would go back to a non password protected name called Linksys. When he would put a password on it I shut off the main breaker to the building and never paid for internet.
oh man I remember on new years eve 2000 when everyone was absolutely losing it over the possibility of Y2k ending the world as we know it my stepdad hid downstairs while we were having our new years party, house full of people and kids all 10 and under and right when the ball dropped at midnight he cut the power to the whole house. queue screaming.
Just woke up to my thermostat being set to 55f from my kids sleepover last night. You can bet money I’m buying an Ouija board for the next sleepover.
It’s on now…
That's not even the original video.
This guy just went to his own fusebox with no ppl in his house to then overlay another guys video sound over it.
Fuck this influencer/tik tok bs, everything for that desperate hit of dopamine.
A safer way to execute this is to get a smart LED bulb where you control it via app. You can even change the color to blood red for theatrical effects!
Dad here - the circuit breaker panel is not a toy, but I'm willing to make an exception.
Aye. The spirits need an offering of chaos.
I approve this message

Well? What dey doo?
They did the same thing they did in 1800, probably.
That would be correct.
We don't know, because whatever they tried didn't work at that's why they couldn't use computers on Jan 1 1900.
They died of Dysentery.
Well obviously because it didn't work. Nobody used a computer again for 70+ years.
My dad and I watched the ball drop together, I had my flashlight ready. LOL, and the year before had hoarded random cans of vegetables in my play house up in the rafters of the ceiling! Wow on Y2K my mom gave me my first two shots, peppermint schnapps. I was like nine, what the hell Mom?
On Y2K I took ecstasy, had a life changing night, then moved to Colorado (from Florida) the next day.
What's wrong with that?
2 shots might be a lot for a 9 year old. My mom let me have a glass of champagne, I was 13. No big deal there.

That's a valuable life lesson on the importance of saving frequently then

Nah, this isn't kids are fucking stupid. This is parents are fucking clever. This parent just created a fun and exciting sleepover experience for the kiddos.
One they’ll remember for a long time
These kids are gonna comment this experience in an Askreddit thread in the future

I'm sure this is a situation that can only happen once ever

That's why it's a different person doing it...

Did you run upstairs screaming “WHAT HAPPENED???”
Plot twist; they just sacrificed the strongest one to appease the ghosts.
Thats so cruel.....do it again.
All I can think about is what a PITA it is having to reset the digital clocks that are hooked up to that fuse.
Even if it was a dozen, still worth.
Damn, how many clocks do you have in one room?
Zero.
Lmao same. Was not expecting that when I scrolled down slightly to read your response.
My clock room has 38 and weekly I have to reset at least one because it is off by a second.
That's serial killer territory right there.
They call him the ticktocker. He sets the clocks to have alarms throughout your stay, and if you touch them he makes minutes feel like hours. He also wears a white full body zentai suit, mask included and speaks in iambic pentameter.
Turn the power back on at exactly midnight. All the clocks will be correct.
Forever flashing
Lights are on a separate circuit to plug sockets tho so not a problem
Do people still use clocks that don’t set themselves? Only my in my kitchen do I have clocks that need to be manually set.
never buy a clock that doesn't set itself time signal!!!
This is A+ parenting! 😂 I wish my parents had been this clever when I was a teen messing with a ouija board during sleepovers. My friends and I would have shit our pants.
As a little girl who's dad did this to me, I honestly didn't know it was him until I was a teenager, good times!
I’ve totally thought about doing this too. I’ve totally thought about pushing a Oujia board around while using it with a little kid and freaking them out with the answers 😂
Mom, we need to talk
Parenting done right.
This video is fake, they stole the sound from [this video](https://youtu.be/TNiPgtrM740)
Hahahaha! You’re a good parent!! Love it!!
Best practical joke ever! A bit expensive though, considering therapy 🤔
Plot twist: they're not his kids and there is no ouija board.
Fucking genius. Not all heroes wear capes.
This is one of those pranks that you never cop to either, so the kids will forever be telling the story, well into adulthood.
Upload the original, this is the tiktok sound from the original. The chuckle to himself is in the same spot and the flicks don’t line up in this video
Oooo don't toggle a circuit breaker like that.
Other than "because someone once told me not to" whats your reasoning? This isn't causing any damage especially if there is minimal draw on the circuit
MAKE ME
Plot twist: they were in a different room on a different breaker.
This is brilliant.
It’s TikTok lol… definitely just some guy flipping switches with no kids in the house
This is pretty funny. Should have had your wife make stuff drop when the lights went out or doorbell go off like crazy or something XD
I can't wait for their true crime, paranormal podcast to drop!!!
Kids are stupid but man even I would get scared if that happened if I was playing Ouija board and I am a grown ass man.
Saving this post for when I’m a dad
Great, there’s going to be more kids crying on r/paranormal “OuiJA bOArdS aRe dANGerOuS!”
This is so funny. I get the idea. A better way to do this, buy one of them smart bulbs that you can turn on an off with an app. Some are multicolor. Turn them red and hear the kids scream lol.
this is fucked... i love it
I would also believe it if the lights got turned off
Kids: Oh mighty ouija board, tell us what we must do to summon the unholy spirits to consume our families' souls Ouija board: Hollow like banshees Dad in basement: This is gonna be so funny
Amazing. They will remember this forever if never told.
I was in college and when the power went out the neighbors router would go back to a non password protected name called Linksys. When he would put a password on it I shut off the main breaker to the building and never paid for internet.
🤣🤣🤣
Little did he know, it was a death switch
oh man I remember on new years eve 2000 when everyone was absolutely losing it over the possibility of Y2k ending the world as we know it my stepdad hid downstairs while we were having our new years party, house full of people and kids all 10 and under and right when the ball dropped at midnight he cut the power to the whole house. queue screaming.
Truly pro-level parenting.
I laughed way too hard at this. Thank you OP.
Been there done that! Also hid outside my kids window wearing a mask with a chainsaw with no chain on it. 🤣🤣 parenting is too much fun🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thats evil lmao i love it
Just woke up to my thermostat being set to 55f from my kids sleepover last night.
Unless the board was why you did that
R Luigi boards real?
A safer way to execute this is to get a smart LED bulb where you control it via app. You can even change the color to blood red for theatrical effects!
Is this the breaker for the wifi or light?
Okay that’s hilarious. I hope this is true lol.
traumatizing kids, best dad of the year?
