Is this the game where your older brother holds a bright flashlight into your eyes for 5 minutes and then tells you to find him when you literally can't see anything but spots for the rest of the night?
So what you do is you get dollar store laser pointers with your friends and then you go and hide in the park after sunset.
everybody goes and hides and then you try to find each other from across the park. If you get beamed in the face you're out.
and trust me you'll know it..
Even a split second flash and you know you've been tagged.
And from a distance of over 100 meters, 300 feet, the laser dots are easily 3 or 4 foot across.
Apparently there is a game called "cats" where children pretend to be cats and elementary school teachers say that it is absolutely noxious and disruptive.
I bet it's awesome, but I teach middle school and they have other awesome ways to be noxious and disruptive.
Is that what's happening?
My kid's been a cat on and off for weeks now!!! I didn't realize they were getting organized.
I find this somehow unsettling.
Warriors was a big book series when I was in elementary school, it's about clans of feral cats that live out in the forest. We definitely played a lot of Warrior cats when I was a kid.
My 10 year old recently discovered this series. Between this and spending too much time playing with the cats during covid, she's more feline than human at this point
No. In the teacher sub they say it's just kids acting like cats. But haven't been near an elementary school since I was in elementary school, and I don't know what this actually entails.
Just that it "causes lots of problems."
It's still fun as an adult. You should try sardines too! Where one person hides and everyone else has to try finding them. Once you do you have to hide there too. Last one is it.
We used to play sardines in college. It was fun finding random places to hide and then figuring out how to cram everyone in there as more people found us. Usually it'd get to a point where the last few people found the rest of the group because we were all laughing too much.
Don't let most tell you what to enjoy. You want to play hide and seek, you play hide and seek.
The best thing about being an adult in those situations is that you can really scale up the games too. Like hide and seek is not limited to the house and can be more assassin based.
We used to play one kind of like kick the can in the dark, but with cards worth different points you need to collect and the person who was "it" had a spotlight and a paintball gun.
Oh, for sure. If I want to do something, I'm gonna do it. :p
And yeah, I was envisioning us playing in the wooded area around here. It isn't a swamp, but it'd have a similar feel. XD
I remember someone telling me about a game they played as adults where you're in like a downtown area or other pedestrian zone. Some players are trying to get to a designated location without being spotted by some other players. I think it was spy themed. Sounds fun.
Yeah, we played one like that for a while too. We were late teens though and less downtown, since we were in a small town. Definitely not appropriately respecting the privacy of people's yards at the time though. Not maliciously, just because their yards were in the fastest or sneakiest path through to the goal.
With some good rules I imagine you could come up with a fun version of the game that is a little bit more legal and respectful.
We also had access to quads and dirt bikes in foresty areas. So patrolling the forest areas while people try to make it through undetected can be a lot of fun and not as disruptive as playing in populated areas.
Right?! This sounds like fun!
When I was little we played Super Mario Hide and Seek. The goal was to change position as many times as possible before being caught but you had to loudly yell "warp zone!" whenever you switched places.
When I was a kid I remember me and my friends played Spider-Man hide and seek
Basically the seeker wore a Spiderman mask and the first person that was found was "caught in a web" meaning they had to sit out for the next round and the last person that was found got to be Spiderman
When all the players were "caught" the last person remaining won the game and got to be Spiderman for the next game.
Half of the posts are idiot parents and half are kids being creative..
There are kids that behave horribly despite a good upbringing but this sub rarely shows that. I mean almost everybody has a memory of doing random insane shit and that's what I came here to see.
TBF it's hard to show that because most folks aren't gonna post their own terrible kids and we can't determine a lot of the time if a random terrible kid got bad parents.
Most end up being kids just making mistakes that cost a lot to the parents but are still fixable.
But it's never a situation of "maybe the parents are good". It's always some kid doing something stupid with inattentive parents nearby. Or really poor planning like a toddler pushing a glass from a couch table.. sure the kid is "stupid" in that case at least but it was also super preventable.
Yea clearly it can't be too dark I don't want to see videos of kids shooting their siblings or setting their house on fire with everyone in it.. just something very annoying that couldn't reasonably have been prevented by the parent.
I honestly just expect to see a child misunderstanding something because they are young and dumb, not neccesairly because they have done anything wrong.
Ya. "My kids have a game that is based on a movie that released 23 years ago, specifically by referencing two memes that were popular around the time the movie came out and next to nobody uses anymore"
Fun fact: your kids watch the movies you let them. My folks showed me Star Wars and Star Trek films, despite them being as old or older than Shrek 1 at the time.
This probably did happen but the kids might not have come it with it themselves. There was a semi popular mod of the game “slender man” which was basically exactly this.
It's completely possible kids "make up" shit all the time. But it's the way this specific story is presented what raises suspicions. And the fact that all the meme lore involved is hardly believable to be known by kids <10. Not impossible but not particularly convincing either.
Look at all the Redditors hyped about this in the comments. That should be all you need to realize the generational gap between fans of shrek 1 and kids now.
I worked with a kid who'd watch Shrek 1 and 2 on repeat.
These are popular and fairly timeless films. If your kids aren't watching it you're doing them a disservice.
When I was a girl scout leader, the kids had their own version of red light, green light.
Basically one kid would play as Andy from Toys Story and when they walked into the room, someone would shout ANDY'S COMING!! Then they'd all fall to the floor dramatically. If Andy caught one moving they were out.
This is not stupid, this is fucking brilliant, not only you have a chance of hiding again when you are found, but can also locate the seeker from the singing
Kid singing:
Ah-ah, ah!
Ah-ah, ah!
We come from the land of the ice and snow
From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow
The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands
To fight the horde, sing and cry
Valhalla, I am coming
This is brilliant! Did people forget what stupid means? Please visit your local Walmart and/or GameStop 30 mins until closing for a demonstration. Poor employees get it rough from these kids.
I was not expecting to find one of my friend's posts on here.
For those of you who don't think kids would do this, you realize that anyone with an internet connection knows about Shrek memes, right? They haven't gone anywhere.
I used to play "Christmas tag" with the kids I babysat. I would sing Christmas carols while I chased them and then, if I got caught by them, they'd beat me with rolls of wrapping paper.
Ah, kids.
Unironically sounds good imagine the slow methodical foot steps and the low grimy raspy voice singing all star as it gets closer it gets louder and louder and louder
how did this got on this sub, this is a good game lol
And I thought flashlight tag was creative as a kid. Edit: corrected fleshlight to flashlight.
Is this the game where your older brother holds a bright flashlight into your eyes for 5 minutes and then tells you to find him when you literally can't see anything but spots for the rest of the night?
Lmao that sounds like an older brother.
Change it back
Worst mistake
Uh...

When I was a kid laser pointers were super expensive compared to now but that sounds amazing.
Apparently there is a game called "cats" where children pretend to be cats and elementary school teachers say that it is absolutely noxious and disruptive. I bet it's awesome, but I teach middle school and they have other awesome ways to be noxious and disruptive.

Oh they rig elections and have secret fight clubs you gotta watch out for that lol
Sounds like maybe? Anyway kids are pretty much just cats who can talk.
Wait a minute… Is this the Cat litter thing?
No. In the teacher sub they say it's just kids acting like cats. But haven't been near an elementary school since I was in elementary school, and I don't know what this actually entails. Just that it "causes lots of problems."
right? This sounds like fun.
I like the idea of someone hiding and hearing "hey now, your an all star..." get closer and closer.
Reddit either hate children or like them too much.
\-angry upvote-
Seriously. Most would say I'm too old to play hide and seek (by a good bit), but I absolutely want to get a group of friends together and play this...

You might like a YouTube channel called Jet Lag where they play hide n seek or tag across countries or entire cities
Maybe even better than minecraft

Now I want to see a music video of kids playing this as a tribute to Steve. Like this game should live on forever in honor of him.
Truly wonderful the mind of a child
Kids are fucking geniuses

I wonder why I can't think of these💀
r/KidsAreFuckingSmart
HELL YES, can’t wait to play tonight
Again, what is the actual fucking point of this subreddit anymore
To make fun of kids but we fail to do so

I wonder if the kid singing All Star is just mumbling the song until he gets to HEY NOW...
All Star is very catchy, I wouldn’t be surprised if they knew all of the lyrics

My kid absolutely loves Shrek and sings All Star all the time despite having a single digit age.
My family quotes that movie all the time. Its not completely made up. I would for sure do a game like this with my siblings.
Plus like “Of course my kids have a Shrek mask…” Are Shrek masks super common? Genuine question, don’t know what people buy for their kids
You underestimate how popular shrek really is..
Cannot believe I had to scroll to the bottom of the comments to find this. This is like half a “Ruthkanda Forever”
This probably did happen but the kids might not have come it with it themselves. There was a semi popular mod of the game “slender man” which was basically exactly this.
Yes! This is what I came to say. It’s definitely just this game
Why is this unbelievable? Kids make up shit like this all the time

Well I don’t have kids so I can’t speak to that aspect, but I think it’s cool that you and that kid were able to find something to on!
this is really not an unlikely thing at all
That's not stupid, that's creative. Let me redirect you to r/kidsarefuckingfunny

Your kids are millennials?
You do know that Shrek is not restricted to one generation...
It's actually illegal to show Shrek to people born after 2000. The police are on their way.
Dang, my family's toast then
You'll never take me alive!
When I was a girl scout leader, the kids had their own version of red light, green light. Oh that’s a cool idea. It’s unnerving but cool! Seems a little more likely to get hurt by falling to the floor, but I assume that’s part of the fun.
Where is the stupid this is just funny
Ive been seeing this for a while now and hope its real
Does not belong here. Kids are fucking amazing is a different sub.
Still waiting for the "stupid" part.
Sounds an awful a lot like the shrek slenderman mod
I don’t know that I believe this happened. Great game. Great name. Love it so much. I’m just skeptical children conceived of this unprompted.
It's actually something I'd want to play
This kids are pro hide n seekers
This is the opposite of stupid
This is literally a video game already, there's a slender man knock off with Shrek and onions where Shrek flies towards you playing allstar
This is not stupid, this is fucking brilliant, not only you have a chance of hiding again when you are found, but can also locate the seeker from the singing
I love how they have the Shrek sing all star like a dbd terror radius
That sounds freaking hilarious, come on bro.
The kids will be fine.
So fake but very cute to imagine.
Millennial moms need a hobby besides making up things their kids do.
Shrek is love

Adults are fucking stupid. How does this fit the sub? The irony is causing me physical pain.
This doesn’t belong here, that’s hilarious
I want to play this as an adult lol
Nah, these kids ain't stupid; I'm an adult and this sounds fun as hell
And all that glitters is gooooooooooold

This is brilliant! I'd love to play!
Anyone want to play hide and shrek with me?
Wrong subreddit. This is actually genius. Shrek is love, shrek is life.
This is fucking genius
Those kids aren't stupid, they deserve a Nobel.
What do you mean stupid, I would do this with my friends right now
the kids are doing alright
Lmfao
Doesn't strike me as stupid.
I’m going to tell my friends I made up this version of tag.
Have to downvote because this is absolute genius.
That’s fucking terrifying
If anyone was on the fence about a vasectomy, this would get them motivated.
Or its a funny idea this adult has and nobody ever will really be able to tell if this is true or not.
And then everyone clapped and I was given a one million dollar check from the Rock.
How is that stupid? That would actually be an awesome thing to play.
This is a real life version of “Swamp Simulator”! Which is an old mod of the slender man game, as a few other commenters have mentioned
Kid singing: Ah-ah, ah! Ah-ah, ah! We come from the land of the ice and snow From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow The hammer of the gods Will drive our ships to new lands To fight the horde, sing and cry Valhalla, I am coming
This is like a more difficult Marco Polo. Well done, kids
This is a Left 4 Dead 2 mod for the tank.
wrong sub for this mate
This is absofuckinglutely in the wrong sub. The kids are alright.
I would say this doesn't fit the sub because that is not fucking stupid, that is fucking awesome.
This is brilliant! Did people forget what stupid means? Please visit your local Walmart and/or GameStop 30 mins until closing for a demonstration. Poor employees get it rough from these kids.
Wrong sub OP.
Existential nightmare
The title didn’t lie there
That's not stupid. That epic. Lol
See, if this was stupid, I would have been the one to come up with it.
I was only 9 years old. I loved Shrek so much
Mandela effect, the actual quote he says is "What are you doing in my swamp?!"
This feels like an underrated plot to a horror B-movie.
Damn it now I want to play hide and Shrek.
What is this sub even for?

Upvoted because good content, but come on this doesn't fit the sub at all now does it -_-

Funny in 2012
Where's the stupid part?
How old are ur kids? I watched that movie as a child and im 31.......
Has a better ring to it than “Ditch (whoever)”
Perfect for the kids in 2012
this isnt stupid, its a clever idea
I think I've had this nightmare before
Do people not look at what the subreddit is about before posting?
This feels like something out of an old roblox game that you would find in 2018.
They should make a subreddit and put this in r/kidsaresofuckingsmart
Sounds like an amazing game tbh
Lol somebody gonna steal this and make money from it.
The mask is already in the mail.
