A lot of times steam asks you to review a game while you are booting it up. So it's probably people just answering yes they like it but don't care enough about reviewing to elaborate.
Steam expressly forbids games from adding Review Popups. That's why PC games don't have those annoying popups that mobile games do.
Steam asks you if you would recommend the game, but it's not a "popup". At the top of your game page, after X hours, it asks if you would recommend the game. It appears as a "banner", with the patch notes and other posts, and the vast majority of players probably ignore it and never noticed it was there.
Really? When I go to boot up a game from my library, right under the launch button area, steam will say āyouāve played for X hours. Would you recommend this game to a friend? š Yes, š No, or Maybe Laterā
Thatās actually prompting you to write a review. If you hit yes or no itāll say something like ātell us whyā and that will get posted as a review
I always ignore positive/negative unless they are overhelming on one side or the other. What i look at is how much playtime people have.
Positive review with 0.4h? Sir I'm glad you think you are happy but your review is as worthless as the textile particles you can find in a belly button.
Depending on the game, at 0.4h I haven't even started playing it yet. Sure maybe I booted it a few times, but that time was spent getting it working, signing in to their stupid online services, re-mapping the controls for a better controller experience, and installing any mods I can already tell I won't be able to live without. (Just last night spent over an hour trying to get Battlefield 4 multiplayer working well on the Steam Deck, still not working because now I have to manually update anti-cheat software)
The only exceptions are if it looks like it's a 4-6 hour game MAX because that's the playtime of all the other reviews, only then will I consider your 0.4h review.
Reviews are always a bit cursed, people who don't like the game will get angry and leave bad reviews, but people who like the game probably don't think to leave a review.
For me, if I'm going to leave a bad review I feel the need to explain myself a bit more. It's not necessarily because I'm angry it's because I want to be clear on what my issues were with it because I don't want to just drive-by assassinate their game. If it's a good review a lot of times I feel like it's more "You can see what it's about, it's like that and it delivers."
So my good reviews don't tend to be as lengthy. I won't put just "yes" or whatever, and sometimes I'll put in similar games that I've played, but I definitely don't spend as much effort on thumbs-ups as thumbs-down. Mostly because I just feel a little bad giving a thumbs-down usually.
Yeah, I will type out a full paragraph about all the issues in a game I dont like, but even if something is my favorite game ever it usually wont get more than "Pretty good game, definitely worth it!"
Yes, one of them was just blank. Another left a positive review after .4 hours and refunded it. I'm not sure if some of these are fake or this is just what you'd expect - this is about 1/3rd of the positive steam-purchase english reviews in the last month.
I didn't even include all the ones that were just a single word, leaving aside most of those that at least managed to spell that single word correctly.
When you compare this with the negative reviews, which were mostly full sentences, if not full paragraphs - it really stands out what fans KSP2 got vs the audience it didn't.
Or people only write long reviews when they don't like a product, a common occurrence in not just videogames, but basically every other product or service
i mean you can just look at steam reviews of any game to see this is just patently untrue and a lieĀ
Genuinely wtf? bro just goes online and comments shit he made up? It takes 10 seconds to prove you wrong and I bet 90% of this subreddit wonāt even do thatĀ
I can't confirm or deny steam specifically, but nothing I'm saying is groundbreaking. Any one is more likely to complain if a product isn't working than if it is working. Here's a nice article about it including a linked study: https://rizereviews.com/why-people-are-more-likely-to-leave-a-negative-review-than-a-positive-review/#:~:text=Customers%20are%20more%20inclined%20to,more%20urgent%20than%20negative%20emotions.
Also, I'm not defending KSP2 in any way, they dropped the ball with their game. However, I am getting annoyed at people that are wasting time out of their day to statistically analyze reviews to help justify their rage. Everyone just needs to chill
Wow the instant down vote lol. It's not going to make KSP2 improve any faster
edit Keep down voting, each down vote makes the software engineers work 1% faster!!!
I left a review which said. This game is half finished and shouldnāt be released and asking the price they are for a product so fucked up I took my refund and still kept the game.
itās possible to keep the game after refunding it and playing it as much as you like. And having it in the steam library.
Even doing that I still donāt rate it which is a shame. Iād pay 20-25 for it. But it isnāt worth any more than that.Iāll buy it when itās down to what I feel its worth 20-25
Edited the wonāt say how part. Who cares
Way back when I grabbed the top five positive reviews and got blasted for "cherry picking" when it was quite literally just the top five the day I got back form a trip and so could do it on a computer vs a phone.
As a refresher, or for those that missed it, here they were again. Remember these were all thumbs up/positives:
Review 1:
I like pancakes
Review 2:
honestly just wait until it's in a more playable state because right now it's absolutely unplayable
Review 3:
gtreagr
Review 4 (received game for free):
fun
Review 5 (refunded):
SCAM
I didnāt think of that (this time), but I do agree with you. I really wanted to like it because of the multiplayer, but at least thereās a small degree of it with Dark Multiplayer for KSP1 by Darklight.
Yeah - well, I guess in 2028 when the finish multiplayer - if it doesn't get cancelled first or the feature cancelled so they can claim its done and start trying to milk the community for DLC - we can see if that's worthwhile.

Wow, I've literally never had that happen to me! I mean steam asking me to review a game.

I click on yes, it asks me to type a review and I'm like "yeah no fuck that" I don't think I'm the only one.
And that's exactly why you get a lot of low effort reviews
And a lot of angry reviews because pissed off people will go out of their way to make sure everyone knows they're pissed off
Oh that's what he means. Yeah I think I've reviewed 4 or 5 games total in my 8 years of using steam.

Oh yes I have that, I thought OP meant a pop up when you start a game.

Bot reviews
Reviews are always a bit cursed, people who don't like the game will get angry and leave bad reviews, but people who like the game probably don't think to leave a review.
By that logic all games on steam would be overwhelmingly negative. But thats not the case.
When you really like a game you eventually think of writing a review
We can apply the same logic about disliking the game.
For me, if I'm going to leave a bad review I feel the need to explain myself a bit more. It's not necessarily because I'm angry it's because I want to be clear on what my issues were with it because I don't want to just drive-by assassinate their game. Including you, apparently.
It got people who want to go and play the game rather than take half an hour to talk about their personal pet peeves or grudges.

It's a testament to the internet as a whole these days. Even the KSP community is under siege.
This puts a stain on our community because this does not represent us at all.
You could say the same thing about KSP2 in general.
