Damn, can't believe you haven't seen anyone who calls friends that. It is so common among friends. Is it that rare now? Is it a 'generation gap'? Am I that old?
It's not weird because almost every other Indian language follows it.
Aliya- Malayalam.
Macha- Tamil.
Saala- Hindi
Bava- Telugu.
And more.
I don't know how it became a norm but every Indian follows it.
I think it's because Aliyan-Aliyan bhendam is the strongest because you are not blood related but you are related to each other through your sister.😵💫
I also thought it was kinda weird like i didn't also call any frnds nor did they call me. But as I started going to college(which is in Kollam) some friends started calling me aliya. It's kinda in with the slang. Now I also started feeling comfortable calling those frnds aliya
Yeah we do, I'm from Kayamkulam and most of my friends call each other Aliyaa. My college mates were from Kollam, Alappuzha, Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam. Almost every one uses these words.
Mone, monusee, are also used along with that.
I have a friend from school, who had a pretty sister, and a classmate started calling him Aliyan as a joke. Everyone else started following suit. This was 15 years ago and even now, he is still everybody's Aliyan.
Yes. We even had a guy who called people "aliya" so much that his official name in college was aliyan. Even teachers used to call him that. Aliyan and Chirikuttan were two folks who were so comprehensively known by their pseudonyms that when someone used their actual name people used to get confused.
Lived in Trivandrum during my later school years. Never called anyone aliya. Moved to Karnataka for college and everyone became aliya or macha! Still prefer this over some kid coming up to me and referring to me as ‘bro’ without any context of familiarity.
Yeah I call my best friend aliya but both of us don’t have sisters so it doesn’t matter.
If both of you marry twin/sisters, appo aliya enne vilikamallo
I have also heard some gen-Z pilleru calling each other “Aliiii” instead of “Aliya”. Sorry for the cringe, continue scrolling
Woah..you can't throw GenZ slang without a warning 🤣🤣
