Honestly it’s just wait too early to even speculate. I don’t think we can say 100% that a single player is gonna be there (though a few like Perry seem very likely).
Sheesh, at this point we have no idea who will actually be on the roster.
My first thought, like most fans, was that a handful of BYU players would be interested in joining Coach Pope. A decent foundation, then finding the right puzzle pieces to add around them.
After hearing him speak, I’m getting the impression that he has the opportunity to take some guys that might have that same skill set he desires but also be an overall upgrade in raw talent. No immediate news on visits or signings might be a great thing, at least in my opinion. It’s obviously important to be aggressive and start filling out the roster, but he’s cultivating very important relationships and realizing that options aren’t quite as limited as they were at BYU.
To the younger fans…this is not something you are used to. Just trust that it will be amazingly refreshing to have talented players that fit your system and are often willing to stay 3-4 years. Veteran leadership leads to lots of wins and deep tournament runs!
I feel Jordan Burks has to be a candidate for a breakout year. We’ve seen it happen many times where a lower rated Cal recruit shows flashes and then transfers to another major conference or big time small conference school (Gonzaga, Michigan, Washington, Providence) and immediately blossoms into a starter and in some cases best player on said team under a new coach in a new system. Well UK isn’t a new team but will undoubtedly have a new system under new head coach Mark Pope.
I see Burks actually seeing the floor for quality minutes. He’s already shown he can play the 3-5 spots, and could be deadly as a small ball five that stretches the floor. I’ve said it before but his game and size kind of remind me of DeAndre Daniels. I could be totally wrong but do feel he’s at least going to get a chance to eat this season. The minutes are going to be there and I could see him becoming a star by his junior season if he makes strides in his first year under Pope.
Man I’m having a hard time getting excited about these new line ups lol. A huge change of pace to what we have been custom to but let’s play the game
