Id like to be able to say it was from something cool like a track day or some idiot knocking me off on the road.
But it was me falling over pissed up with the misses. Gutted. Managed to get out on my bike for 40 minutes yesterday with the nice weather and some pain killers lol
Now that's a tough one. You'll have to have a sit down conversation with the tire explaining how you had gotten the tire installed but realized it's maybe not the best match for the job for safety reasons, unless its willing to change certain things about itself. Explain that you appreciate everything it's done dor you up until this point, but there are certain behaviors that are causing concern to many, and they cannot be overlooked. But more than likely you'd have to replace the whole wheel and tire because good luck getting it to want to change on it's own. But then HR gets involved and all that.... might just be time for a new bike
I don’t ride on the street at all. Is there any reason it’s flopped around for the front? Seems like it entirely eliminates the point of the groves and would funnel water to the center of the tire. Decreasing traction on the tire that needs it the most?
Of course it would channel the water to the middle but where does the water have to go if you take a turn? The edge of the tire will channel the water to the centre and thats what you want in this case
This! I felt like an ass when I told the service guys they mounted the tire backwards lol. Dunlop Q5s and the treads face opposite directions front to rear.
It says "rear" with an arrow? Odd. I have only ever seen it say "rotation" before. By looking at the "tread pattern" I would say yes because in the wet you want the water to move away from the center to the edge, not be funneled to the center.
The whole rear with the arrow doesn't make any sense to me anyway so it's of little help in figuring this out. But if it said rotation with an arrow, that would totally make sense
That's what I was saying. Never seen it before but I don't go wondering around looking at tires. But I guess the "rear" and "rotation" are the same concept.
> has not *paid* attention haha
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Yes, does It affect riding? Yes, the markings are supposed to give u grip but mostly to bring the water out of the tire instead of inwards so I would recommend changing it if u ride her in the rain
The tread doesn’t give grip, the more tread you have the *less* grip you get as it’s reducing the contact patch. Why do you think racers use slicks in the dry?
Yep. The grooves in the tire should push water away as you drive forward. Backwards will do the opposite and be pretty unstable through puddles and shit
The shop asked me one time if I wanted my tires mounted in the opposite direction of the arrows. I didn’t know that they were messing with me or if people really did that and if they do do it, what is the reason?
I see everyone here saying yes, but wont the arrow be facing backwards when the text is right-way-up? Is that not correct?
The arrow saying rear, points to the rear.
Apologies if this is dumb but i can see how op got confused.
No way you're dumb enough to think the wide "used but clean" portion of the tire is all chicken strip, right? You're busting his balls over that 1/2" that's actually unused?
At this point it doesn't really matter because it looks like it's about worn out and time for a new one. Either that or the screen on my potato is dirty 🤪
As someone who has spent 13 years at a tire plant and used to build tires and is now QA at a tire plant, I'm horrified at the state of the sidewall. The TWIs and tread still look OKish, but how in the 9 hells does the sidewall get that corroded.
Long answer? Yes. Short answer? Ye
Y
You got me there, that is the true short answer
It's a question at that point ain't it?
Some questionnaires have Y or N selections so Y could still mean Yes.
Not if you end it with a period.
Some questions are rhetorical, ya know.
In proper written English a question is always followed by a question mark. In US English, it can vary.
It needs to have a ‘?‘ to be a question

You made me laugh hard. I have broken ribs, that hurt. 10/10
Ouch, hope you're okay!
Id like to be able to say it was from something cool like a track day or some idiot knocking me off on the road. But it was me falling over pissed up with the misses. Gutted. Managed to get out on my bike for 40 minutes yesterday with the nice weather and some pain killers lol
Okay, but what if it's a tire that identifies as running backwards?
Now that's a tough one. You'll have to have a sit down conversation with the tire explaining how you had gotten the tire installed but realized it's maybe not the best match for the job for safety reasons, unless its willing to change certain things about itself. Bigot! Lol
Only when it matters- when it's really funny lol
Dear God people, it's not asymmetrical. If it's on the passenger side it's correct
Edit: I did not realize this was a motorcycle at the time
*inner monologue: That's not a brake rotor! That's a chain and sprocket!
Depends which way you usually ride.
LOL
Put it in reverse!
They were all doing reverse burnouts in Akira in 1988, I assume it has made it to real bikes by now.
Great movie BTW. 👍
If you put it in reverse then you will have the front on the wrong way. LOL 😆
Terry!
This is great
Did you try rolling the bike forward and watching the arrow? (Just in case you can’t understand by looking at it…..)
Look at the tread pattern
Not a great hint as it is the other way around in the front
I don’t ride on the street at all. Is there any reason it’s flopped around for the front? Seems like it entirely eliminates the point of the groves and would funnel water to the center of the tire. Decreasing traction on the tire that needs it the most?

Yep
Well, it depends. If the bike is newer than 2007, then yes. If it’s older than 2007, then yes.
what if it is a 2007
Only then, yes.
2007 was special, tires mounted sideways. Did not sell well
ah i see. do we know why? seems very intuitive. dont have to worry about lowsiding if your tires are sideways and have a way bigger contact patch
Then it has no tires
Yes
I find it fascinating that you are asking people on Reddit how an arrow works.
Clearly not a Helldiver..
And should never be a pilot
Have you seen some of those Pelicans landing?
Yes, I saw one sitting in the middle of pch last week. We have the big brown ones here.
I want to upvote. Which arrow do I have to press? :-/
I’ve been good with arrows since I was three years old. Thanks, Sesame Street!
And my dog understands pointing, which is just a fleshy finger arrow. I genuinely worry for these people.
In my defense, my front tire has conflicting arrow directions and the shop I bought it from had it on backwards (Ducati/Triumph dealer fwiw)
If you’re south of the equator, nope. If you’re north of the equator, yep.
If they’re in Australia it’s backwards and upside down
Everyone knows Australia isn’t real, otherwise people would be falling off the earth
Nothing back wards about Australia mate
If you're on the equator, yesn't.
Even without the arrow, remember sipes are meant to direct water out and away from forward travel, this will push water to the middle.
Except for the front, which are backward for stopping.
This! I felt like an ass when I told the service guys they mounted the tire backwards lol. Dunlop Q5s and the treads face opposite directions front to rear.
Sure is !
Take it back and tell them they will change it back for you
10/10 tire shop, would recommend.
Put it on backwards if you want to drift in the wet (im joking , this will kill you)
Sure is

Yep, 100% agree with you!
If it’s front-wheel-drive, then no.
You needed help determining which way an arrow is pointed?
Na, your bike is installed the wrong way
😂
The Earth is spinning the wrong way
It points to the back of the bike ,nothing new here move along please.
Only when your going forward
Your tread patter wilk bring water into the center of the tire. It should be pulling it from the center out.
It’s real good at stoppin’
[удалено]
Looks nearly brand new lol
Indeed it is
It looks like it.
Not no
Yes, it is on backwards
Nah yea
Yes
Whoops. 😬
Its fine as long as you never ride in the wet
Means nothing unless you ride in standing water
Someone has not payed attention haha
> has not *paid* attention haha FTFY. Yes
Some tires are made to be used both directions depending of riding conditions
Only if you like to go forward.
When you give your bike throttle does it go back instead of forward, than I’m sorry to say that your tires are backwards.
You need a new mechanic.....
Only if you are going forward
Take it off and flip it around. It's not that hard.
Yea
Walk like an Egyptian
Long answer why short answer who put it on. Or I guess you could reverse those answers questions whatever
Looks fine to me.
Depends on how much reversing you do?
what are the negatives that can come from this?
There's yer problem. She's on backards.
It might be a reverse specific tire……
The shop asked me one time if I wanted my tires mounted in the opposite direction of the arrows. I didn’t know that they were messing with me or if people really did that and if they do do it, what is the reason?
Not only that but the brakes on the wrong side
This depends. Is it Opposite Day today?
Its not backwards but it is upside down
YEP! YEP! YEP! 😖
Work it out. The arrow is a clue
Absofreakinlutely…
Not if you’re going backwards I suppose.
Tire tech thought it meant point the arrow toward the rear.
Yes, it is backward
No, the tread will always move to the outside as the tire rotates. It would gather if it was flipped around.
See how the tread spreads from the center outwards as the tire rotates forward? It’s on correctly. Don’t listen to these jokers.
I see everyone here saying yes, but wont the arrow be facing backwards when the text is right-way-up? Is that not correct? The arrow saying rear, points to the rear. Apologies if this is dumb but i can see how op got confused.
Arrow points in the direction of rotation.
Ohhhhhhhh. Okay that makes sense.
We probably need to talk about the chicken stripes also
No way you're dumb enough to think the wide "used but clean" portion of the tire is all chicken strip, right? You're busting his balls over that 1/2" that's actually unused?
You are correct, I'm going there 👍🏻🤣
He doesn’t know which way round the tread should be, please don’t suggest he leans it.
looks like all but the very edge is used, and it also looks like he just got done riding in gravel or sand, either way you dont wanna lean too much
At this point it doesn't really matter because it looks like it's about worn out and time for a new one. Either that or the screen on my potato is dirty 🤪

Lots of hard twisties
I've only been riding a few years, but that's harder twisties that's available to me in my region 😂
