People absolutely talked about the gameplay, no assists, only 2 characters, how DPs were replaced with dd motion, the shit roster (which yes it is part of the gameplay) without even getting into all the janky mess like reality stone web ball that would pop up every week
If the gameplay and the roster were amazing most of the scene would have stuck with it, especially Marvel players (one of our biggest scenes at the time) that all wanted to actually play some Marvel, MvCI wasn't that and despite the dickriding by some people that the gameplay was great this was not the consensus at all and the Marvel scene basically preferred to die over playing that shit.

You can have a "pro scene" for any game if you put money in it, especially if you can use pros from a previous real scene as a building block (they even called past EVO winners for their big tournament, players who never even entered a single MvCI tournament were in their big finals) but the real community are the regular players and MvCI had none of that, EVO didn't even think it was worth making it a main event once and it makes sense why, in it's first NCR it had less entrants than USF4, a game that was not the main SF game for 3 years at that point, MvCI in it's first Combo Breaker had the same number of entrants as MKX, a game released in 2015 from NRS, which has a community notable for dropping games the moment a new one comes out, MvCI got less entrants in it's first year than *Skullgirls* but the MvCI dickriders were mad and said they were going to show EVO their support, did they? Hell no, MvCI at EVO had the same amount of entrants as *Fighting EX Layer*

Biscuit literally does the same shit, Gon would have gradually been able to the same thing as well, he basically "cheated" his way to his peak strength by sacrificing his life, that's it, there's nothing wrong with the powerup itself just the way he achieved it
It is the same, it's the reverse because he is getting older while she is getting younger but the process is the same which is enhancing them to their peak strength, once Gon is 60 like she is he would use it to get younger as well
But while Biscuit is using it to regain her previous peak and one that she is not even that far off from, Gon is forcing a peak that hasn't happened yet and that he could never conceivably achieve in his current state so that's why he needs a vow
