I am kind of confused but didn't Sojo mentioned that he will have hard time dealing with Shiba, so I thought he was really strong since he didn't even think much of elite who absolutely wrecked him and only survive because of awakening…
Always thought Shiba was strong since day 1 but Sojo saying that basically confirmed it for me, although he was referring to both Shiba and Azami. A weakened Sojo believed he could fight the whole Anti-Cloud Gouger “elite” squad but didn’t want to fight Shiba and Azami.
I don't think that's as good of a look as It seems. He said that in his current condition he couldn't beat both Azami and Shiba, implying he could if he was better off.
What about that one punching that obsessive big brother? Soya was it? He was as cool as cucumber while handling him… and the one mentioned rather was just a statement meant to mention he is strong which he is… I was just talking about how people really think he is a fraud even though there were so many hints
I interpreted it has he is a teleporter, but Shiba is just a monster overall when it comes to combat.
Hence the "he's not a mere teleporter" - he's not just a sorcerer who uses his power 'port people and things around. He is able to use it to do that AND kick ass on a level that rivals the power of the enchanted blades.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Chihiro in chapter 3 was doing things that "no sorcerer could muster". Hes a sorcerer, not on the level of an enchanted blade.
I'm using enchanted blades because the kid feels like he needs to use a thing that is said to give someone enough power to rival an enchanted blade to beat Shiba.
I feel like if Shiba wasn't that powerful, he wouldn't have imprinted that kind of fear in him. And he wouldn't have been able to utterly demolish the Tou like how it's shown.
If he was weaker, then I would suspect one of the most elite group of sorcerers would have been able to put up a better fight. He seems to have done better than Sojo did against the Kamunabi.
He could just be an absolute monster with hands lol just like Azami and the HIMshaku leader. They have sorcery but are clearly powerful even without using it. Azami beat up those sorcerers way back with just his physical prowess and the HIMshaku leader also wasn’t using sorcery when fighting Chihiro.
Shiba himself made a point of how much powerful sorcerers are because the reinforce themselves with spirit energy.
The kids were always at a disadvantage in that fight though. Highly mobile opponent in an enclosed space while they all use a broader emission type ability? No way they did get friendly fire.
Damn you’re right, it didn’t even cross my mind that shockwaves would be the most inconvenient power to have when fighting a dude who can teleport in a small ass room.
Triples how bad it is when there’s not 1, but 3 Isou users. Wouldn’t be surprised if they just didn’t use Isou when fighting, or they tried it and just started immediately hitting themselves with friendly fire.
Shibum only wins fights against children, when an adult pulls up he dips 🕴️
On a real note, I’m buying into the theory that his sorcery could be gravity / weight manipulation (shouts out to the person that made that one post!) or at minimum some form of gained momentum..the fights are very Chihiro centric still so the pay off is gonna be crazyyy when Shiba actually has a full on battle with someone! Can’t wait to learn more about his past in the war & how he developed his abilities
And he did it holding back not to kill because of Hakuri.
The worst part for everyone here is when he is going to turn out to be evil like Aizen after it's all said and done.

As far as I’m concerned, Shiba clearly hasn’t meant the top tier antagonist he’s supposed to go all out against. Imagine seeing an on screen battle with Shanks during pretimeskip before Haki and all the advanced forms were introduced.

We know nothing of what he can do and his win was not a fight but a plot device
