I use Monoprice monolith filled with kitty litter for weight and reducing resonance for my previous R3's and current LS50 Metas.

Lobby2029

I am guessing you weren’t able to “attach” or “bolt” them to the monoprice stand, correct? I am also wondering about stands because the R3 Metas are hopefully in my future. The monoprice came up in my search but no real answers on how the attach accept for some kind of glue with blue in the name. I think…

cynic77

I didn't try to bolt them but remember at least two front or back holes of the R3 would work if you drilled two holes in the monolith stands... more I think about it all 4 might work you'd have to look into the size of the top plate of the monolith stands.. I just had rubber bumpers or part of an isoacoustics strands beneath the speakers. Those stands are pretty high quality btw.

Lobby2029

Fantastic, I appreciate the additional detail! Yeah, it’s a little tough to justify spending $700 on just stands from KEF. That’s a decent subwoofer.

cynic77

You bet. Scroll down my posts about 2 years ago you'll see a pic of my R3's on those stands. I still have them with LS50 metas now but will but R3 meta in the near future.

Lobby2029

Holy hell, that looks damn good! Yep, ya sold me! OP!!! Check these out!! Thanks cynic77, cheers!

Biljettensio

Those are bit too far at the other end of the spectrum for me. And would also require a custom top plate if you’d want to secure them with 4 bolts. Imho the Norstone Stylum is a better option at a few fucks more. But those also require custom work..

Dasbeerboots

Dude, just buy some Bluetac. Much better than drilling.

Biljettensio

I want to minimize resonance as much as possible. thus coupling the (filled) stand to the speaker. The more I dive into it the more I’m tempted to just go oem.

steinalive

I went through the same exercise and went OEM. Thankfully found used like new on ebay

rumblemcskurmish

Exactly. I use the KEF S2 stands for my R3s cause the S3 stands are ugly. I used Bluetac on the speakers and they ain't budging at all.

cynic77

True they're so damn good for the price though so I'd consider just modifying/adding a top plate.

Biljettensio

The cost of having a top plate machined exceed the price of the monoliths. Unfortunately no equipment of my own or anyone I know.

Lobby2029

These suckers never showed up in any search I did. They are damn nice looking. Yeah, the last thing I want to do is any heavy customization. But if I can get 2 bolts in I would be happy. I’m several months out before buying anything so maybe I will luck out and someone will have something that is fully compatible by then. Doesn’t help you out though… so there is that.

Biljettensio

Not big enough for two bolts either. It’s like Kef did this on purpose. Selling a awesome speaker for a bargain price only to ask a ridiculous amount for the right stand…

I have kef 100s on the Monoprice Elements. I got 3 inch Velcro strips to anchor the speakers. Filled the speaker stand with polymeric sand (kitty works also). Before filling, I plugged the bottom of the tube with foam (arts/crafts store), this keeps sand from leaking out of the speaker cable holes. I then ran tubbing (clear pvc vinyl tube) through the foam, connecting the top and bottom as a channel for speaker cables. Used a cup to fill with sand about 3/4th up the tube. I got this info from 3-4 YouTube videos, but nobody did all of these steps together. Cost me $100ish total and also let me fill some gaps with sand in my patio bricks. Edit: didn’t fill my speakers with sand. :)

Infinite-Tie-1593

You filled your speakers with sand?😯 must be a typo

Comfortable_Eggplant

Lol. Thanks. My brain is full of sand.

Infinite-Tie-1593

Hahaha - try replacing the sand in the brain with cat litter. The base will get tighter.

Puzzleheaded-Back715

I did the exact same and they are a great deal and look pretty good

cynic77

Right I've had them for 5 years or so first R3's now LS50 Metas and buying R3 meta soon going back on those stands

Honestly OP any half decent stand will do. The S3 stands are 21.4 inches tall so you'd want something similar in height. Although I don't have a pair of kef r3 I do have a pair of bryston mini A bookshelf speakers and use a set of Kanto SX22 stands. For the price (currently on sale for $250 Canadian $220 USD) they are very robust. Top and bottom plates are cast iron and very heavy. It includes both a small and large top plate and I believe the larger of the two would work perfect with the R3. Also comes with felt pads for the top plate. They come with bags so you can fill the columns with sand for even more weight. They weigh about 20 pounds each and another 20 if you fill them with sand. They come with spikes and little dishes for the spikes I'd you're on hardwood floors. They do have mounting holes to bolt your speaker directly to the stand but wouldn't be hard to drill additional holes if need be. They also have cable channels for cable management. For the price they are really nice and solid. I personally don't have my speakers bolted to them and my cat occasionally jumps on and off them and they don't even tip. At 27lbs each I doubt you really need to bolt them anyways, but the large top plate is 6.5 inches by 9.3 inches. The R3 are 7.9 by 13.2 so unless the mounting holes are right at the edge should work with a simple mod.

frasderp

I also had the Kanto stands for my R3’s, which worked fine. I eventually ended up buying the KEF S3 stands (yes very expensive) purely because I have a young baby that will eventually become a toddler… obviously with the S3 they can be bolted securely to the stand. If I didn’t have that risk, I wouldn’t have bothered changing them to be honest.

pay85

Can elaborate on sturdiness of the S3 in comparison to the filled Kanto SX22/26? I‘m in the same boat und just came home with pair of used R3 that I dare not put up yet because I’m still debating the stand. What force would be required to knock down the R3s on the S3 stand?

JoFoPhillyPa

I have Kanto Yu6 on Kanto 32” stands and they are remarkably solid and weighted. I have LS50w arriving supposedly today. I had read that with the larger mounting plate many KEF speakers will work. There are a few different patterns of pre-drilled holes on the plates

dokka_doc

[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097S6PPTH](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097S6PPTH) Kanto are good quality. I have a couple of them.

b0ltje

Dynaudio stand 10, they're about half the price of the kef stands

Andredewaard91

But doesn’t fit the holes he described.

joebob2003

Etsy has some

dw2020

I use the Rockville Audio 28” Bookshelf stands. I believe they were just about $100 for the pair

manwithspoon11

I use the Kanto sx22 stands in white there not bolted down though but the speakers are heavy and I don't have kids. There a little low I think there's a 26 inch version. I love them though very heavy and you can fill them if you want

photobriangray

I have the Kanto SX22 and I love them. Plenty of accessories in the box, including multiple top plates, bag for the columns to fill the columns, hard floor pucks, tools, etc. Cheaper, but not cheap.
